  • Modeling Tools that understand both Relational and LDAP

    - by jm04469
I am looking to do some modeling and would like to have a tool that can capture not only a relational model like ERWIN but also allow us to easily port to LDAP as an option. NOTE: Visio can connect to an existing LDAP server and draw, but does not allow for you to model first and then deploy, unlike its relational capabilities.

  • Synchronising local and remote DB

    - by nico
Hi everyone, I have a general question about DB synchronisation. So, I'm developing a website locally (PHP + MySQL) and I would like to be able to synchronise at least the structure (and maybe the contents) of the two DB when one of the two is changed (normally I would change the local copy). Right now what I'm doing is to use mysqldump to dump the modified tables and then import them in the remote DB or do it by hand if the changes are minimal. However I find this tedious and error-prone. For the PHP I'm currently using Quanta+ which has the handy feature of finding files that have changed and just upload those. Is there something similar for MySQL? Otherwise how do you keep your DBs synchronised? Thanks nico PS: I'm sorry if this was already asked, I saw other questions that deal with similar topics, but couldn't really find an answer.

  • SQL: How do I INSERT primary key values from two tables INTO a master table.

    - by Stefan
Hello, I would appreciate some help with an SQL statement I really can't get my head around. What I want to do is fairly simple, I need to take the values from two different tables and copy them into an master table when a new row is inserted into one of the two tables. The problem is perhaps best explained like this: I have three tables, productcategories, regioncategories and mastertable. --------------------------- TABLE: PRODUCTCATEGORIES --------------------------- COLUMNS: CODE | DESCRIPTION --------------------------- VALUES: BOOKS | Books --------------------------- --------------------------- TABLE: REGIONCATEGORIES --------------------------- COLUMNS: CODE | DESCRIPTION --------------------------- VALUES: EU | European Union --------------------------- --------------------------- TABLE: MASTERTABLE --------------------------- COLUMNS: REGION | PRODUCT --------------------------- VALUES: EU | BOOKS --------------------------- I want the values to be inserted like this when a new row is created in either productcategories or regioncategories. New row is created. --------------------------- TABLE: PRODUCTCATEGORIES --------------------------- COLUMNS: CODE | DESCRIPTION --------------------------- VALUES: BOOKS | Books --------------------------- VALUES: DVD | DVDs --------------------------- And a SQL statement copies the new values into the mastertable. --------------------------- TABLE: MASTERTABLE --------------------------- COLUMNS: REGION | PRODUCT --------------------------- VALUES: EU | BOOKS --------------------------- VALUES: EU | DVD --------------------------- The same goes if a row is created in the regioncategories. New row. --------------------------- TABLE: REGIONCATEGORIES --------------------------- COLUMNS: CODE | DESCRIPTION --------------------------- VALUES: EU | European Union --------------------------- VALUES: US | United States --------------------------- Copied to the mastertable. --------------------------- TABLE: MASTERTABLE --------------------------- COLUMNS: REGION | PRODUCT --------------------------- VALUES: EU | BOOKS --------------------------- VALUES: EU | DVD --------------------------- VALUES: US | BOOKS --------------------------- VALUES: US | DVD --------------------------- I hope it makes sense. Thanks, Stefan

  • does the order a composite key is defined matter?

I have a table with (col1,col2) as a composite primary key. create table twokeytable(col1 int,col2 int, constraint twokeytable_pk primary key (col1,col2)); and another table with col3,col4 collumns witha composite foreign key(col3,col4) which references the(col1,col2) primary key. For some processing I need to drop the foreign key and primary constraints .While restoring the constraints does order of the keys matter?. are these same? create table fktwokeytable(col3 int,col4 int, constraint fkaddfaa_fk foreign key(col4,col3) references twokeytable(col1,col2)) and create table fktwokeytable(col3 int,col4 int, constraint fkaddfaa_fk foreign key(col3,col4) references twokeytable(col1,col2))

  • PostgreSQL - best way to return an array of key-value pairs

    - by Matt W
I'm trying to select a number of fields, one of which needs to be an array with each element of the array containing two values. Each array item needs to contain a name (character varying) and an ID (numeric). I know how to return an array of single values (using the ARRAY keyword) but I'm unsure of how to return an array of an object which in itself contains two values. The query is something like SELECT t.field1, t.field2, ARRAY(--with each element containing two values i.e. {'TheName', 1 }) FROM MyTable t I read that one way to do this is by selecting the values into a type and then creating an array of that type. Problem is, the rest of the function is already returning a type (which means I would then have nested types - is that OK? If so, how would you read this data back in application code - i.e. with a .Net data provider like NPGSQL?) Any help is much appreciated.

  • Lambda Expressions and Stored Procedures

    - by Jason Summers
Hi Everyone. I'm trying to mimic the LINQ Where extension method for my ADO.NET DAL methods. Bascially, my aim is to have a single method that I can call. Such as: Product p = Dal.GetProduct(x => x.ProductId == 32); Product p2 = Dal.GetProduct(x => x.ProductName.Contains("Soap")); I then want to dissect those Predicates and send the filter options to parameters in an ADO.NET Stored Procedure call. Any comments greatly appreciated.

  • How can I remove rows with unique values? As in only keeping rows with duplicate values?

    - by user1456405
    Here's the conundrum, I'm a complete and utter noob when it comes to programming. I understand the basics, but am still learning javascript. I have a spreadsheet of surveys, in which I need to see how particular users have varied over time. As such, I need to disregard all rows with unique values in a particular column. The data looks like this: Response Date Response_ID Account_ID Q.1 10/20/2011 12:03:43 PM 23655956 1168161 8 10/20/2011 03:52:57 PM 23660161 1168152 0 10/21/2011 10:55:54 AM 23672903 1166121 7 10/23/2011 04:28:16 PM 23694471 1144756 9 10/25/2011 06:30:52 AM 23732674 1167449 7 10/25/2011 07:52:28 AM 23734597 1087618 5 I've found a way to do so in VBA, which sucks as I have to use excel, per below: Sub Del_Unique() Application.ScreenUpdating = False Columns("B:B").Insert Shift:=xlToRight Columns("A:A").Copy Destination:=Columns("B:B") i = Application.CountIf(Range("A:A"), "<>") + 50 If i > 65536 Then i = 65536 Do If Application.CountIf(Range("B:B"), Range("A" & i)) = 1 Then Rows(i).Delete End If i = i - 1 Loop Until i = 0 Columns("B:B").Delete Application.ScreenUpdating = True End Sub But that requires mucking about. I'd really like to do it in Google Spreadsheets with a script that won't have to be changed. Closest I can get is retrieving all duplicate user ids from the range, but can't associate that with the row. That code follows: function findDuplicatesInSelection() { var activeRange = SpreadsheetApp.getActiveRange(); var values = activeRange.getValues(); // values that appear at least once var once = {}; // values that appear at least twice var twice = {}; // values that appear at least twice, stored in a pretty fashion! var final = []; for (var i = 0; i < values.length; i++) { var inner = values[i]; for (var j = 0; j < inner.length; j++) { var cell = inner[j]; if (cell == "") continue; if (once.hasOwnProperty(cell)) { if (!twice.hasOwnProperty(cell)) { final.push(cell); } twice[cell] = 1; } else { once[cell] = 1; } } } if (final.length == 0) { Browser.msgBox("No duplicates found"); } else { Browser.msgBox("Duplicates are: " + final); } } Anyhow, sorry if this is the wrong place or format, but half of what I've found so far has been from stack, I thought it was a good place to start. Thanks!

  • Implementing Model-level caching

    - by Byron
I was posting some comments in a related question about MVC caching and some questions about actual implementation came up. How does one implement a Model-level cache that works transparently without the developer needing to manually cache, yet still remains efficient? I would keep my caching responsibilities firmly within the model. It is none of the controller's or view's business where the model is getting data. All they care about is that when data is requested, data is provided - this is how the MVC paradigm is supposed to work. (Source: Post by Jarrod) The reason I am skeptical is because caching should usually not be done unless there is a real need, and shouldn't be done for things like search results. So somehow the Model itself has to know whether or not the SELECT statement being issued to it worthy of being cached. Wouldn't the Model have to be astronomically smart, and/or store statistics of what is being most often queried over a long period of time in order to accurately make a decision? And wouldn't the overhead of all this make the caching useless anyway? Also, how would you uniquely identify a query from another query (or more accurately, a resultset from another resultset)? What about if you're using prepared statements, with only the parameters changing according to user input? Another poster said this: I would suggest using the md5 hash of your query combined with a serialized version of your input arguments. This would require twice the number of serialization options. I was under the impression that serialization was quite expensive, and for large inputs this might be even worse than just re-querying. And is the minuscule chance of collision worth worrying about? Conceptually, caching in the Model seems like a good idea to me, but it seems in practicality the developer should have direct control over caching and write it into the controller. Thoughts/ideas? Edit: I'm using PHP and MySQL if that helps to narrow your focus.

  • ERD-CLASS design

    - by Mahesh
Hello guyz,i am new to daatbase and class diagram.I just get scenarios from internet and try to develop ERD and Class Diagram for them. But the following scenario has caused me some problems, and i am not sure about my design. "Whenever an employee fills leave application form, the leave application should be appeared for approval to his/her team leader. Team Leader has the option to change the date of requested leave and to approve or reject the leave. Employee also has the option to change date of previously unapproved leaves or to cancel any of unapproved leave. In case of team leader, he can approve his own leaves. Management should be able to create categories of leaves like (Casual, Sick, Planned work, etc) and should be able to adjust the days allocated to each type of leave". I have identified these as entities for ERD 1) Employee(I think i dont need to make entity for Technical lead, since he is an employee) 2) LeaveHistory 3) LeaveCategory Plz correct me if the system need more classes or entities

  • Would this hack for per-object permissions in django work?

    - by Edward
According to the documentation, a class can have the meta option permissions, described as such: Options.permissions Extra permissions to enter into the permissions table when creating this object. Add, delete and change permissions are automatically created for each object that has admin set. This example specifies an extra permission, can_deliver_pizzas: permissions = (("can_deliver_pizzas", "Can deliver pizzas"),) This is a list or tuple of 2-tuples in the format (permission_code, human_readable_permission_name). Would it be possible to define permissions at run time by: permissions = (("can_access_%s" % self.pk, / "Has access to object %s of type %s" % (self.pk,self.__name__)),) ?

  • Erlang Mnesia Equivalent of SQL Select FROM WHERE Field IN (value1, value2, value3, ...)

    - by ErJab
I have an mnesia table with fields say f1, f2, f3. Now if I were to select all the rows with the field value as V1, I would use mnesia:select and match specifications or a simple mnesia:match_object. Now I need to select all the rows which have V1, V2, V3 ... or Vn (a list of arbitrary length) as the value for field f1. In SQL I would do something like SELECT * FROM tablename WHERE f3 IN (V1, V2, V3, ... , Vn) How do I do this in mnesia?

  • How to handle large dataset with JPA (or at least with Hibernate)?

    - by Roman
I need to make my web-app work with really huge datasets. At the moment I get either OutOfMemoryException or output which is being generated 1-2 minutes. Let's put it simple and suppose that we have 2 tables in DB: Worker and WorkLog with about 1000 rows in the first one and 10 000 000 rows in the second one. Latter table has several fields including 'workerId' and 'hoursWorked' fields among others. What we need is: count total hours worked by each user; list of work periods for each user. The most straightforward approach (IMO) for each task in plain SQL is: 1) select Worker.name, sum(hoursWorked) from Worker, WorkLog where Worker.id = WorkLog.workerId group by Worker.name; //results of this query should be transformed to Multimap<Worker, Long> 2) select Worker.name, WorkLog.start, WorkLog.hoursWorked from Worker, WorkLog where Worker.id = WorkLog.workerId; //results of this query should be transformed to Multimap<Worker, Period> //if it was JDBC then it would be vitally //to set resultSet.setFetchSize (someSmallNumber), ~100 So, I have two questions: how to implement each of my approaches with JPA (or at least with Hibernate); how would you handle this problem (with JPA or Hibernate of course)?

  • Comparing COUNT values within a query?

    - by outsyncof
I have the following tables in a relation: person(ssn, sex) employment(ssn, workweeksperyear) assume ssn is a key. My assignment was to do this: Given as input the number of weeks per year a person has worked, determine whether there are more males than females who work more weeks than the input value. SELECT COUNT(sex) AS NumMales FROM person WHERE sex = 'Male' AND ssn IN (SELECT ssn FROM employment WHERE workweeksperyear > 48); The above query gets me the number of males for an input value and I could do the same for number of females but how do I compare the 2 results? Any help will be greatly appreciated!

But, I don't know how to write the last part of this Django query.

  • Java MySQL Query Problem MySQLSyntaxErrorException When Creating a Table

I fairly new to MySQL with Java, but I have executed a few successful INSERT queries however cannot seem to get the CREATE TABLE query to execute without getting the 'MySQLSyntaxErrorException' exception. My code is as follows: import java.sql.*; Statement stmt; Class.forName("com.mysql.jdbc.Driver"); String url = "jdbc:mysql://localhost:3306/mysql"; Connection con = DriverManager.getConnection(url, "root", "password"); stmt = con.createStatement(); String tblSQL = "CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS \'dev\'.\'testTable\' (\n" + " \'id\' int(11) NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT,\n" + " \'date\' smallint(6) NOT NULL\n" + ") ENGINE=MyISAM DEFAULT CHARSET=latin1 AUTO_INCREMENT=1 ;"; stmt.executeUpdate(tblSQL); stmt.close(); con.close(); And the error is as follows: com.mysql.jdbc.exceptions.jdbc4.MySQLSyntaxErrorException: You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near ''dev'.'testTable' ( 'id' int(11) NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT, 'date' smallint(6) N' at line 1 I would appreciate it if anyone could spot the mistake in this query, as I've tried executing this within phpMyAdmin and it works as it should. Thanks in advance.
