    - by wefwgeweg
    is there any way to "wait for user action on popupmenu" after an element is clicked ? for example: person A clicks on link. javascript menu popups asking what the user would like to do with this link. user should not be allowed to click anywhere else but the popup menu. after user clicks an action on the menu, the default browser action should happen (ie. link to the next page)

  • tabs using jquery

    - by sea_1987
    I currently have a tabbed system in place, however it not doing exactly as I need it too, I was hoping that by navigating to the URL with #tab2 suffixed on then end it would navigate to my tabbed page and the tab that is present in the URL would be the one that is active, however the first tab in the sequence is always active, is there a way to check what is being passed in the URL first and if there is #tabid present then make that tab the current tab? My javascript currently looks like this, $(".tab_content").hide(); //Hide all content $("ul.tabNavigation li.shortlist").addClass("active").show(); //Activate first tab (in this case second because of floats) $(".tab_content#shortlist").show(); //Show first tab content //On Click Event $("ul.tabNavigation li").click(function() { $("ul.tabNavigation li").removeClass("active"); //Remove any "active" class $(this).addClass("active"); //Add "active" class to selected tab $(".tab_content").hide(); //Hide all tab content var activeTab = $(this).find("a").attr("href"); //Find the href attribute value to identify the active tab + content $(activeTab).fadeIn(); //Fade in the active ID content return false; });

  • Jquery's a FREE grid display

    - by mmcgrail
    I have been using Flesigrid for my CMS and I like it except there are some things I think it could do better like get the column headers from the ajax results rather then in the setup of the flexigrid or having the ability to change the buttons on reload things of that nature. I've been considering a mod of the plugin though I'm not sure i really want to do that. But the question is ... is there something that might be better that I somehow missed when I was looking for grid display ?

  • jQuery ajax request to php, how to return plain text only

    - by jyoseph
    I am making an ajax request to a php page and I cannot for the life of me get it to just return plain text. $.ajax({ type: 'GET', url: '/shipping/test.php', cache: false, dataType: 'text', data: myData, success: function(data){ console.log(data) } }); in test.php I am including this script to get UPS rates. I am then calling the function with $rate = ups($dest_zip,$service,$weight,$length,$width,$height); I am doing echo $rate; at the bottom of test.php. When viewed in a browser shows the rate, that's great. But when I request the page via ajax I get a bunch of XML. Pastie here: http://pastie.org/1416142 My question is, how do I get it so I can just return the plain text string from the ajax call, where the result data will be a number? Edit, here's what I see in Firebug- Response tab: HTML tab:

  • border highlighting loop with jquery

    - by Tek
    I'm having trouble coming up with a loop that changes the border color of an image from black to yellow and yellow to black over x seconds. Then applying an interrupt to the loop when the image gets clicked on. I don't know where to start, can someone point me in the right direction? I think I may be using the wrong tools to properly write this. Here's what I've come up so far, though if there's a better way to write this, do share! for( i = 100; i >= 0; i--) { $("#imgid").css("border-color", 'rgb(' + i + '%,' + i + '%,0)'); } I'm having trouble picturing how I could combine two loops so that I can also count upwards as well so that it will turn into yellow and back to black. I also don't know how to go about controlling the amount of time it takes for that loop to execute and creating an interrupt when #imigid is clicked. Which is where I'm not sure how to write.

  • jQuery NewBie Questions: What's the deal with $(document).(ready) ?

    - by Rachel
    Hello, I am newbie to jQuery, just trying to learn it since last couple of days. In my office, there are few experience JavaScript Developer and they work mainly with jQuery for all their needs and whenever I got and talk to them to get some better understanding of how jQuery works and first they say is that on $(document).(ready) you do this and on $(document).(ready) you do that. So my main question is What is the $(document).(ready) and how does it really works ? Any inputs would be highly appreciated.

  • Testing whether an event has happened after a period of time in jQuery

    - by chrism
    I'm writing a script for a form-faces xforms product that is keyed off an event built into form faces. The event is called 'xforms-ready'. I have define 'startTime' as happening as soon as the document in 'ready'. What I want the script to do is warn the user that it is taking too long before the 'xforms-ready' happens, say if it's been 6 seconds since 'startTime'. I can easily do things when the 'xforms-ready' event happens using the code below: new EventListener(document.documentElement, "xforms-ready", "default", function() { var endTime = (new Date()).getTime(); } ); however the warning will want to happen before 'endTime' is defined. So I guess I want something that works like this: If 6 seconds has passed since startTime and endTime is not yet defined do X or possibly more efficiently: If 6 seconds has passed since startTime and 'xforms-ready' has not yet happened do X Can anyone suggest a way of doing this?

  • jquery ajaxstart ajaxstop show hide

    - by user1630583
    As usually seemingly simple things take days to resolve, maybe someone could point me to a solution but after 2 days I give up on the following problem; In html, in a form I have a button that is supposed to trigger loading of data through ajax call: <button type="" class="btn" onclick="getData(); return false;">Show Data</button> in javascript: $(document).ajaxStart(function() { $("#qloader").show(); }).ajaxStop(function() { $("#qloader").hide('slow'); });? and in html div with id qloader is defined with 100% width and height and spinner centered as the background, z-index above other: <div id="qloader" class="myLoader" >&nbsp;</div> Now, when page loads, ajax call is executed to get initial data, qloader div is brought up and it shows the spinner - animated, after ajax call finishes, qloader is hidden by ajaxStop. Next, when I click on a button (show data) to initiate another ajax call, ajaxStart is triggered, but it does not show qloader, it waits until ajaxStop is triggered and then in a blink of eye it shows qloader and hides it. I suspected that ajaxStart is not executed, so I put alert before $("#qloader").show(), then alert would be displayed and after that qloader WOULD be displayed BUT spinner animation would be suspended - no spinning, and after ajaxStop it would get hidden. Without alert in ajaxStart trigger, in subsequent ajax calls div is not shown until just before ajaxStop is triggered. It works fine for the first ajax call, but for subsequent ajax call triggered by click on form button it does not work. Any idea what is wrong with this setup?

It stops after that. Am I doing something wrong or is there something else affecting this?

  • jQuery: AJAX call isn't updating page

    - by Cortopasta
    Thought I had a simple AJAX call using $.POST(), but apparently my function isn't firing, and nothing is updating :-/ Here is the call: $(".answerVerse ul li").click(function(){ var rank = $(this).removeClass("star_empty star_full star_highlight").attr("class"); var verse_id = $(this).parent().parent().find(".verseId").html(); var answer_id = $(this).parent().parent().find(".answerId").html(); var place = this; $.post("rank.php", { rank: rank, verse_id: verse_id, answer_id: answer_id },function(data){ $(place).parent().removeClass().addClass(data.newVerseRank); for (i=0;i<=5;i++) { $(".answerVerse ul."+i).each(function(){ $(".answerVerse ul."+i+" li."+i).prevAll().andSelf().removeClass("star_empty").addClass("star_full"); }); } }, "json"); }); And here is the PHP (rank.php) that it calls: require_once("dbcon.php"); $user = new user(); $user->updateVerseRank($_POST['verse_id'], $_POST['rank']); $user->getVerse($_POST['verse_id']); $user->getAnswer($_POST['answer_id']; $arr = array ('newVerseRank'=>htmlspecialchars(round($user->verse[3])),'newVerseVotes'=>htmlspecialchars(round($user->verse[4])),'newAnswerRank'=>htmlspecialchars($user->answer[3])); echo json_encode($arr); Why am I not updating the page?   • Cross domain ajax POST ie7 with jquery

    - by DickieBoy
    been having trouble with this script, ive managed to get it working in ie8, works on chrome fine. initilize: function(){ $('#my_form').submit(function(){ if ($.browser.msie && window.XDomainRequest) { var data = $('#my_form').serialize(); xdr=new XDomainRequest(); function after_xhr_load() { response = $.parseJSON(xdr.responseText); if(response.number =="incorrect format"){ $('#errors').html('error'); } else { $('#errors').html('worked'); } } xdr.onload = after_xhr_load; xdr.open("POST",$('#my_form').attr('action')+".json"); xdr.send(data); } else { $.ajax({ type: "POST", url: $('#my_form').attr('action')+".json", data: $('#my_form').serialize(), dataType: "json", complete: function(data) { if(data.statusText =="OK"){ $('#errors').html('error'); } if(data.statusText =="Created"){ response = $.parseJSON(data.responseText); $('#errors').html('Here is your code:' +response.code); } } }); } return false; }); } I understand that ie7 does not have the XDomainRequest() object.   • Modify onclick function with jQuery

    - by Chris Barr
    I've got a button that has an onclick event in it, which was set on the back end from .NET. Beside it is a checkbox <button class="img_button" onclick="if(buttonLoader(this)){WebForm_DoPostBackWithOptions(new WebForm_PostBackOptions('uxBtnRelease', '', true, '', 'somepage.aspx?oupid=5&fp=true', false, true))} return false;" type="button">Release</button> <input type="checkbox" checked="checked" id="myCheckbox"> When the checkbox is clicked, needs to change the value of the query string in the URL inside the onclick function of the button. So far I have this, and the idea is right, but I keep getting errors when it's run: "Uncaught SyntaxError: Unexpected token ILLEGAL" var defaultReleaseOnClick=null; $("#myCheckbox").click(function(){ var $releaseBtn = $(".img_button"); if(defaultReleaseOnClick==null) defaultReleaseOnClick=$releaseBtn.attr("onclick"); var newOnClickString = defaultReleaseOnClick.toString().replace(/&fp=[a-z]+'/i,"&fp="+this.checked); $releaseBtn.removeAttr("onclick").click(eval(newOnClickString)); }); I know it seems kinda hacky to convert the function to a string, do a replacement, and then try to convert it back to a function, but I don't know any other way to do it. Any ideas? I've set up a demo here: http://jsbin.com/asiwu4/edit

  • Scripts fail when jQuery.js isn't cached. When cached, scripts run fine.

    - by Bob
    I have jQuery UI Tabs which load their content via AJAX. About once every 15 times when the entire page is loaded (not just XHR), things fail and I don't see the proper content in the tab. Fiddler showed me that when things fail I also see that jQuery.js and jQuery-ui.js are both sent to the browser in full (~100kB). Normally, a page load results in HTTP status code 304 for both of those files, they're not re-downloaded, and the page displays properly. When the status code is 200 and fresh copies of jQuery/UI are sent, things fail. I notice this most often in IE8, but that's because I use it for web development. I have seen it in Firefox, but for some reason I can't reproduce it now. Fiddler shows that the HTTP request asks for: GET /Scripts/jquery-1.3.2.min.js?_=1255309685187 HTTP/1.1 I can't figure out what the ?_=1255309685187 is for, but I'm guessing it's a token to indicate for how long the file should be cached. Since I can't reproduce the problem in Firefox right now, I don't know what Firebug says. Any insight would be appreciated. EDIT: This is with Visual Studio's development webserver.
