• nagios NRPE: Unable to read output

  I currently set up a script to restart my http servers + php5 fpm but can't get it to work. I have googled and have found that mostly permissions are the problems of my error but can't figure it out. • Can't Deploy or Upload Large SSRS 2008 Report from VS or IE

  So far in this project I have two reports in VS2008/BIDS. The first one contains 1 tablix and is about 100k. The second one contains 3 tablixes (tablices?) and is about 257k. I can successfully deploy the smaller report from VS and I can upload it from the Report Manager in IE. I can view/run it from Report Manager and I can get to the Report Server (web service) URL from my browser just fine. Everything is done over HTTPS and there is nothing wrong with the certificates. With the larger report, the error I get in VS is "The operation has timed out" after about 100 seconds. The error when I upload from IE is "The underlying connection was closed: An unexpected error occurred on a send" after about 130 seconds. In the RSReportServer.config file I tried changing Authentication/EnableAuthPersistence from true to false and restarting the service, but still get the error. I have the key "SecureConnectionLevel" set to 2. Changing this to 0 and turning off SSL is not going to be an option. I added a registry key named "MaxRequestBytes" to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\HTTP\Parameters and set it to 5242880 (5MB) and restarted the HTTP and SRS services as suggested in a forum post by Jin Chen of MSFT. I still cannot upload the larger report. This is on MS SQL 2008 and WS 2003. • SSRS Report from Oracle DB - Use stored procedure

  I am developing a report in Sql Server Reporting Services 2005, connecting to an Oracle 11g database. As you post replies perhaps it will help to know that I'm skilled in MSSQL Server and inexperienced in Oracle. I have multiple nested subreports and need to use summary data in outer reports and the same data but in detail in the inner reports. In order to spare the DB server from multiple executions, I thought to populate some temp tables at the beginning and then query just them the multiple times in the report and the subreports. In SSRS, Datasets are evidently executed in the order they appear in the RDL file. And you can have a dataset that doesn't return a rowset. So I created a stored procedure to populate my four temp tables and made this the first Dataset in my report. This SP works when I run it from SQLDeveloper and I can query the data from the temp tables. However, this didn't appear to work out because SSRS was apparently not reusing the same session, so even though the global temporary tables were created with ON COMMIT PRESERVE ROWS my Datasets were empty. I switched to using "real" tables and am now passing in an additional parameter, a GUID in string form, uniquely generated on each new execution, that is part of the primary key of each table, so I can get back just the rows for this execution. Running this from Sql Developer works fine, example: DECLARE ActivityCode varchar2(15) := '1208-0916 '; ExecutionID varchar2(32) := SYS_GUID(); BEGIN CIPProjectBudget (ActivityCode, ExecutionID); END; Never mind that in this example I don't know the GUID, this simply proves it works because rows are inserted to my four tables. But in the SSRS report, I'm still getting no rows in my Datasets and SQL Developer confirms no rows are being inserted. So I'm thinking along the lines of: Oracle uses implicit transactions and my changes aren't getting committed? Even though I can prove that the non-rowset returning SP is executing (because if I leave out the parameter mapping it complains at report rendering time about not having enough parameters) perhaps it's not really executing. Somehow. Wrong execution order isn't the problem or rows would appear in the tables, and they aren't. I'm interested in any ideas about how to accomplish this (especially the part about not running the main queries multiple times). I'll redesign my whole report. I'll stop using a stored procedure. Suggest anything you like! I just need help getting this working and I am stuck. If you want more details, in my SSRS report I have a List object (it's a container that repeats once for each row in a Dataset) that has some header values and then contains a subreport. Eventually, there will be four total reports: one main report, with three nested subreports. Each subreport will be in a List on the parent report.

• Using Joda DateTime as a Jersey parameter?

  I'd like to use Joda's DateTime for query parameters in Jersey, but this isn't supported by Jersey out-of-the-box. I'm assuming that implementing an InjectableProvider is the proper way to add DateTime support. Can someone point me to a good implementation of an InjectableProvider for DateTime? Or is there an alternative approach worth recommending? (I'm aware I can convert from Date or String in my code, but this seems like a lesser solution). Thanks. • Why does DEP kill IE when accessing Microsoft FTP?

  I start up IE (9.0.8112.16421) with about:blank and I go to ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/ I press Alt, click View and then Open FTP Site in Windows Explorer. At this point IE stops responding and eventually crashes (though the window is still active, sometimes) and I get the usual Windows dialog box saying that the program has stopped working. From this dialog box I click on the option to try to find solutions to the problem and the progress bar just keeps scrolling without giving me any result page whatsoever, so I have to abort by clicking Cancel. Then I get the bubble type of pop-up message from the system tray saying that DEP has stopped the program from executing. What gives? Why would DEP (part of Microsoft Windows) be preventing IE (a Microsoft product) from performing a perfectly legitimate action from Microsoft's own FTP site? The OS is Windows Vista HP SP2, Swedish locale. Screenshots as follows... Update: I normally have UAC disabled, but I have discovered that enabling it has an effect on IE when I click the FTP option from the View menu, just as I suspected. I basically tried starting IE in its 32-bit and 64-bit version, with and without add-ons, and switching UAC on and off, and then trying to go to View and the FTP option (as shown above). Here are the results. With UAC off and DEP on Action: IE 32-bit, normal start, go to ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/, view menu, FTP option. Result: crash Action: IE 32-bit, extoff, go to ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/, view menu, FTP option. Result: crash Action: IE 64-bit, normal start, go to ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/, view menu, FTP option. Result: information & warning message Action: IE 64-bit, extoff, go to ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/, view menu, FTP option. Result: information & warning message This is the information and warning message I get if I use IE 64-bit: The first message is an FTP proxy warning. It says that the folder ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/ will be write-protected because proxy server is not configured to allow full access. It goes on to say that if I want to move, paste, change name or delete files I must use another type of proxy, and that I should contact the system admin for more information (the usual recommendation when they have no clue of what's going on). What the heck is all this about? I don't even use a proxy server, as you can see from the next screenshot (Internet Options, Connections, LAN settings dialog). That second message only states that the FTP site cannot be viewed in (Windows) Explorer. With UAC off, I always get these two messages when running the 64-bit version of IE. With UAC on and DEP on Action: IE 32-bit, normal start, go to ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/, view menu, FTP option. Result: crash Action: IE 32-bit, extoff, go to ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/, view menu, FTP option. Result: security warning message, prompts to allow action Action: IE 64-bit, normal start, go to ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/, view menu, FTP option. Result: security warning message, prompts to allow action Action: IE 64-bit, extoff, go to ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/, view menu, FTP option. Result: security warning message, prompts to allow action As you can see from this list, if I have UAC enabled I actually get rid of these messages and opening the FTP site in Windows Explorer (from IE) actually works (except for 32-bit version which still crashes). Here is the security warning message: The fact that the 32-bit IE still crashes could be an indicator that this has something to do with one or several add-ons in that bit-version of IE. The 32-bit IE doesn't crash if it's started with the extoff flag. If this is affecting only the 32-bit IE then it's only normal that the 64-bit IE doesn't have this problem because it would not be using any of the add-ons used by the 32-bit version, they are not compatible with 64-bit (although some add-ons work both with 32-bit and 64-bit IE). Figuring out which add-on (if any) is causing this problem is a whole new question... but I seem to be closer to an answer now, and a possible solution. I could of course just add IE (32-bit) in the exclusion list of DEP. In fact, I have already tested this and it causes IE to perform this task without hiccups. But I don't really want to disable DEP, or force it on all Windows programs and services (except the ones I strictly specify in the exception list). (In other words DEP can't really be completely disabled, you can only switch between two modes of operation.) Update 2: This is interesting... I start 32-bit IE, go to ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/ and click on View, and Open FTP Site in Windows Explorer. The result is a crash!! Then I start 32-bit IE with extoff flag to disable add-ons, I go to ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/ and click on View, and Open FTP Site in Windows Explorer. I get the security warning, as expected with UAC enabled, and it opens up in Windows Explorer. Now... I close Windows Explorer, and I close IE. I then start 32-bit IE (normal start, with add-ons), I go to ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/ and click on View, and Open FTP Site in Windows Explorer. Now this time it doesn't crash! Instead, I get the screenshot number 5 as seen above. This is the FTP proxy warning message. Now get this... if I click the close button to get rid of this message, what happens is that Firefox starts up, and it goes to ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/ The fact that this works with 32-bit IE (with add-ons) the second time around, is because I am still logged in as anonymous to the FTP server. The log-in has not timed out yet. Standard log-in timeout for FTP servers is usually 60 to 120 seconds. I got logged in to it the first time I ran 32-bit IE with the extoff flag (no add-ons) which actually works and connects using Windows Explorer. Update 3: The connection to the FTP server has timed out by now. So now if I run 32-bit IE (with add-ons) and repeat the steps as before it crashes, just as expected... In conclusion: If I have already been connected to the FTP server via Windows Explorer, and I go to this FTP address in 32-bit IE and I pick the FTP option from the view menu to open it in Windows Explorer, it gives me a FTP proxy server warning and then opens the address in default web browser (Firefox in my case). If I have not been connected to the FTP server via Windows Explorer previously, and I go to this FTP address in 32-bit IE and I pick the FTP option from the view menu top open it in Windows Explorer, then it crashes IE! This is just great... It's not that I care much for using Internet Explorer or the Windows Explorer to log in to FTP servers. This just shows why IE is not the best browser choice. This reminds me of the time when Microsoft was enforcing the use of Internet Explorer as default browser for opening web links and other web resources, despite the fact that the user had installed an alternative browser on the system. Even if the user explicitly set the default browser to be something else and not Internet Explorer in the Windows options, IE would still pop up sometimes, depending on what web resources the user was trying to access. Setting default browser had no effect. It was hard-coded that IE is the browser of choice, especially when accessing Microsoft product or help pages. The web page would actually say that you are not using IE, and that you must open it in IE to view it. Unfortunately you would not be able to open it manually in a different browser by simply copying and pasting the URL from the address bar, because it would show a different URL, and the original URL would re-direct to the "you are using the wrong browser" page so you would not have the time to cut it to clipboard. Thankfully those days are over. Now-days Microsoft is forced to distribute IE and WMP free versions of Windows for the EU market. The way it should be! These programs have to be optional, not mandatory.

• Need additional help with binding multiple CommandParameters using MultiBinding

  I need to have a command handler for a ToggleButton that can take multiple parameters, namely the IsChecked property of said ToggleButton, along with a constant value, which could be a string, byte, int... doesn't matter. I found this great question on SO and followed the answer's link and read up on MultiBinding and IMultiValueConverter. It went really smoothly until I had to write the MultiBinding, when I realized that I also need to pass a constant value and couldn't do something like <Binding Value="1" /> I then came across another similar question that Kent Boogaart answered, and then I started to think about ways that I could get around this. One possible way is to not use MVVM and simply add the Tag property to my ToggleButton, in which case my MultiBinding would look like this: <MultiBinding Converter="{StaticResource MyConverter}"> <MultiBinding.Bindings> <Binding Path="IsChecked" /> <Binding Path="Tag" /> </MultiBinding.Bindings> </MultiBinding> Kent had made a comment along the lines of, "if you're using MVVM you should be able to get around this issue". However, I'm not sure that's an option for me, even though I have adopted MVVM as my WPF pattern of necessity choice. The reason why I say this is that I have wayyyy more than one ToggleButton in the UserControl, and each of the ToggleButtons' Commands need to call the same function. But since they are ToggleButtons, I can't use the property bound to IsChecked in the ViewModel, because I don't know which one was last clicked. I suppose I could add another private property to keep track of this, but it seems a little silly. As far as the constant goes, I could probably get rid of this if I did the tracking idea, but not sure of any other way to get around it. I just realized that Tag is a string... duh. It's working now! The key was to use a RelativeSource of Self.

  I'm currently working on a project that involves a lot of XSLT transformations and I really need a debugger (I have XSLTs that are 1000+ lines long and I didn't write them :-). The project is written in C# and makes use of extension objects: xslArg.AddExtensionObject("urn:<obj>", new <Obj>()); From my knowledge, in this situation Visual Studio is the only tool that can help me debug the transformations step-by-step. The static debugger is no use because of the extension objects (it throws an error when it reaches elements that reference their namespace). Fortunately, I've found this thread which gave me a starting point (at least I know it can be done). After searching MSDN, I found the criteria that makes stepping into the transform possible. They are listed here. In short: the XML and the XSLT must be loaded via a class that has the IXmlLineInfo interface (XmlReader & co.) the XML resolver used in the XSLTCompiledTransform constructor is file-based (XmlUriResolver should work). the stylesheet should be on the local machine or on the intranet (?) From what I can tell, I fit all these criteria, but it still doesn't work. This is likely quite specific to our situation, but perhaps it applies to others as well. Microsoft Network Monitor and an application trace got us the information we needed.

• Uploading multiple images through Tumblr API

  I have about 300 images I want to upload to my new Tumblr account, becuase my old wordpress site got hacked and I no longer wish to use wordpress. I uploaded one image a day for 300 days, and I'd like to be able to take these images and upload them to my tumblr site using the api. The images are currently local, stored in /images/. They all have the date they were uploaded as the first ten characters of the filename, (01-01-2009-filename.png) and I went to send this date parameter along as well. I want to be able to see the progress of the script by outputting the responses from the API to my error_log.   Hi, I'm having difficulty getting data from a textbox into a Controller. I've read about a few ways to accomplish this in Sanderson's book, Pro ASP.NET MVC Framework, but haven't had any success. Also, I've ran across a few similiar questions online, but haven't had any success there either. Seems like I'm missing something rather fundamental.   Does anyone know how best to determine the specific underlying cause of this exception? Consider a WCF service that is supposed to use Powershell 2.0 remoting to execute MSBuild on remote machines. In both cases the scripting environments are being called in-process (via C# for Powershell and via Powershell for MSBuild), rather than 'shelling-out' - this was a specific design decision to avoid command-line hell as well as to enable passing actual objects into the Powershell script. • Cross-table linq query with EF4/POCO

  Hi All, I'm new to EF(any version) and POCO. I'm trying to use POCO entities with a generic repository in a "code-first" mode(?) I've got some POCO Entities (no proxies, no lazy loading, nothing). I have a repository(of T as Entity) which provides me with basic get/getsingle/getfirst functionality which takes a lambda as a parameter (specifically a System.Func(Of T, Boolean)) Now as I'm returning the simplest possible POCO object, none of the relationship parameters work once they've been retrieved from the database (as I would expect). However, I had assumed (wrongly) that my lambda query passed to the repository would be able to use the links between entities as it would be executed against the DB before the simple POCO entities are generated. The flow is: GUI calls: Public Function GetAllTypesForCategory(ByVal CategoryID As Guid) As IEnumerable(Of ItemType) Return ItemTypeRepository.Get(Function(x) x.Category.ID = CategoryID) End Function Get is defined in Repository(of T as Entity): Public Function [Get](ByVal Query As System.Func(Of T, Boolean)) As IEnumerable(Of T) Implements Interfaces.IRepository(Of T).Get Return ObjectSet.Where(Query).ToList() End Function The code doesn't error when this method is called but does when I try to use the result set. (This seems to be a lazy loading behaviour so I tried adding the .ToList() to force eager loading - no difference) I'm using unity/IOC to wire it all up but I believe that's irrelevant to the issue I'm having NB: Relationships between entities are being configured properly and if I turn on proxies/lazy loading/etc... this all just works. I'm intentionally leaving all that turned off as some calls to the BL will be from a website but some will be via WCF - So I want the simplest possible objects. Also, I don't want a change in an object passed to the UI to be committed to the DB if another BL method calls Commit() Can someone please either point out how to make this work or explain why it's not possible?   Hi, I have a main form which contains multiple worker threads. These threads raise events which update Telerik controls on the main form. The event handlers contain code which check if InvokeRequired and BeginInvoke where required. At random interval I am receiving the following exception, and have no idea on how where to find this?   I'm having a very weird error using the WebClient class in .NET 4. The app simply downloads some files off the internet and provides output on a textbox (the GUI is WPF). If it is executed on the UI thread then it works perfectly. When a new thread is created with: Thread t = new Thread(DownloadFiles); t.Start(files); The first time the code goes into the loop it will work, but when its the second pass inside the loop, I will always receive a TargetParameterCountException. I am new to c# (since I am a Delphi developer) anyway I was able to create a simple CLR stored procedures by following a tutorial. My task is to move a file from the client file system to the server file system (the server can be accessed using remote IP, so I cannot use a shared folder as destination, this is why I need a CLR stored procedure). So I plan to: 1) store from Delphi the file in a varbinary(max) column of a temporary table 2) call the CLR stored procedure to create a file at the desired path using the data contained in the varbinary(max) field Imagine I need to move C:\MyFile.pdf to Z:\MyFile.pdf, where C: is a harddrive on local system and Z: is an harddrive on the server. I provide the code below (not working) that someone can modify to make it work? Here I suppose to have a table called MyTable with two fields: ID (int) and DATA (varbinary(max)). Please note it doesn't make a difference if the table is a real temporary table or just a table where I temporarly store the data. I would appreciate if some exception handling code is there (so that I can manage an "impossible to save file" exception). I would like to be able to write a new file or overwrite the file if already existing.   I'm building an ASP.NET MVC site using the ADO.NET Entity Framework. I have an entity model that includes these entities, associated by foreign keys: Report(ID, Date, Heading, Report_Type_ID, etc.) SubReport(ID, ReportText, etc.) - one-to-one relationship with Report. ReportSource(ID, Name, Description) - one-to-many relationship with Sub_Report. ReportSourceType(ID, Name, Description) - one-to-many relationship with ReportSource. Contact (ID, Name, Address, etc.) - one-to-one relationship with Report_Source. There is a Create.aspx page for each type of SubReport. The post event method returns a new Sub_Report entity. Before, in my post method, I followed this process: Set the properties for a new Report entity from the page's fields. Set the SubReport entity's specific properties from the page's fields. Set the SubReport entity's Report to the new Report entity created in 1. Given an ID provided by the page, look up the ReportSource and set the Sub_Report entity's ReportSource to the found entity. SaveChanges. This workflow succeeded just fine for a couple of weeks. Then last week something changed and it doesn't work any more. The debug visualizer shows the following: The SubReport's ReportSource is set and loaded, and all of its properties are correct. The Report_Source has a valid ReportSourceType entity attached. In SQL Profiler the prepared SQL statement looks OK. Can anybody point me to what obvious thing I'm missing? TIA Notes: The Report and SubReport are always new entities in this case. The Report entity contains properties common to many types of reports and is used for generic queries. SubReports are specific reports with extra parameters varying by type. There is actually a different entity set for each type of SubReport, but this question applies to all of them, so I use SubReport as a simplified example.

• WebClient error when using a thread in .NET 4

  I'm having a very weird error using the WebClient class in .NET 4. The app simply downloads some files off the internet and provides output on a textbox (the GUI is WPF). The method that does this is the following: void DownloadFiles(object files) { fileL = (List<string>) files; foreach (string url in fileL) { byte[] data; using (System.Net.WebClient k = new WebClient()) { data = k.DownloadData(url); } //Bunch of irrelevant code goes here... } } (I added the using while trying to divine [yes I'm that desperate/ignorant] a solution, the problem happens even if the webclient is declared and initialized outside the foreach loop) Now the problem appears only when I'm executing this method on a thread separate from the WPF UI main thread. If it is executed on the UI thread then it works perfectly. When a new thread is created with: Thread t = new Thread(DownloadFiles); t.Start(files); The first time the code goes into the loop it will work, but when its the second pass inside the loop, I will always receive a TargetParameterCountException.   From the documentation of Image.FromHbitmap() at http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/k061we7x%28VS.80%29.aspx : The FromHbitmap method makes a copy of the GDI bitmap; so you can release the incoming GDI bitmap using the GDIDeleteObject method immediately after creating the new Image. This pretty explicitly states that the bitmap handle can be immediately deleted with DeleteObject as soon as the Bitmap instance is created. Looking at the implementation of Image.FromHbitmap() with Reflector, however, shows that it is a pretty thin wrapper around the GDI+ function, GdipCreateBitmapFromHBITMAP(). There is pretty scant documentation on the GDI+ flat functions, but http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms533971%28VS.85%29.aspx says that GdipCreateBitmapFromHBITMAP() corresponds to the Bitmap::Bitmap() constructor that takes an HBITMAP and an HPALETTE as parameters. The documentation for this version of the Bitmap::Bitmap() constructor at http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms536314%28VS.85%29.aspx has this to say: You are responsible for deleting the GDI bitmap and the GDI palette. However, you should not delete the GDI bitmap or the GDI palette until after the GDI+ Bitmap::Bitmap object is deleted or goes out of scope. Do not pass to the GDI+ Bitmap::Bitmap constructor a GDI bitmap or a GDI palette that is currently (or was previously) selected into a device context. Furthermore, the GDI+ documentation warns against using a source HBITMAP that is currently or previously selected into a device context. While I can understand why the bitmap should not be selected into a device context currently, I do not understand why there is a warning against using a bitmap that was previously selected into a device context. That would seem to prevent use of GDI+ bitmaps that had been created in memory using standard GDI. So, in summary: Does the original bitmap handle need to be kept around until the .Net Bitmap object is disposed? Does the GDI+ function, GdipCreateBitmapFromHBITMAP(), make a copy of the source bitmap or merely hold onto the handle to the original? Why should I not use an HBITMAP that was previously selected into a device context?

  I'm trying to find the best (efficient) way of doing this. I have a medium sized XML document. Depending on specific settings certain portions of it need to be filtered out for security reasons. I'll be doing this in XSLT as it's configurable and no code should need changing. I've looked around, but not getting much luck on it. For example: I have the following XPath: //*[@root='2.16.840.1.113883.3.51.1.1.6.1'] Whicrooth gives me all nodes with a root attribute equal to a specific OID. In these nodes I want to have all attributes except for a few (ex. foo and bar) erased, and then having another attribute added (ex. reason) I also need to have multiple XPath expressions that can be ran to zero down on a specific node and clear it's contents out in a similar fashion, with respect to nodes with specific attributes. I'm playing around with information from: XPath expression to select all XML child nodes except a specific list? and XSLT Remove Elements and/or Attributes by Name per XSL Parameters Will update shortly when I can have access what what I"ve done so far. • Voice Recognition Connection problem

  I,m trying to work through and test a Voice Recognition example based on the VoiceRecognition.java example at http://developer.android.com/resources/samples/ApiDemos/src/com/example/android/apis/app/VoiceRecognition.html but when click on the button to create the activity, I get a dialog that says Connection problem. My Manifest file is using the Internet Permission, and I understand it passes the to the Google Servers. Do I need to do anything else to use this. Code below UPDATE: Ok, I was able to replace my emulator image with one from HTC that appears to come with Google Voice Search, however now when I run from the emulator, i'm getting an Audio Problem message with Speak Again or Cancel buttons. It appears to make it back to the onActivityResult(), but the resultCode is 0.
