  • Why does 'url' not work as a variable here?

    - by kryptobs2000
I originally had the variable cpanel named url and the code would not return anything. Any idea why? It doesn't seem to be used by anything else, but there's gotta be something I'm overlooking. import urllib2 cpanel = 'http://www.tas-tech.com/cpanel' req = urllib2.Request(cpanel) try: handle = urllib2.urlopen(req) except IOError, e: if hasattr(e, 'code'): if e.code != 401: print 'We got another error' print e.code else: print e.headers print e.headers['www-authenticate']

  • What Android tools and methods work best to find memory/resource leaks?

    - by jottos
I've got an Android app developed, and I'm at the point of a phone app development where everything seems to be working well and you want to declare victory and ship, but you know there just have to be some memory and resource leaks in there; and there's only 16mb of heap on the Android and its apparently surprisingly easy to leak in an Android app. I've been looking around and so far have only been able to dig up info on 'hprof' and 'traceview' and neither gets a lot of favorable reviews. What tools or methods have you come across or developed and care to share maybe in an OS project?

  • Adding a view with a view controller as a subview of another view controller. Doesn't work.

    - by Tom
I'm trying to essentially re-implement the UISplitViewController (because it has its limits), but when I create a UIViewController viewController, and then do an "[viewController.view addSubview contentViewController.view]" on it, to add a view that already has a view controller, that content view doesn't seem to get initialised by its view controller. I guess its view controller is getting detached or deallocated, is this the case?

  • What software should i use to work with Ruby?

    - by paranoid_pedlar
I've only ever learned to "program" with notepad when I was learning to create batch files in Windows. I would appreciate if you can explain to me the benefits of working with an IDE over a text editor or vice versa. Please don't give emotional responses or argue someone else's suggestion/advice. I use Linux primarily. Also, I would like to be able to make programs that can be used in Windows, but programmed in Linux. Thanks.

  • Why use of session name and session id in the get variables does not work?

    - by Roman
I have the following code: $location .= 'red=no&'.session_name() . "=". session_id(); $content = file_get_contents($location); echo $content; If I run it, noting is displayed in my browser. However, if I modify it in the following way: $location .= 'red=no'; $content = file_get_contents($location); echo $content; everything works fine (I see the content in my browser). What is also strange, if I display the value of the $location variable from the first example (url) and manually paste it in the address line of my browser, I do see the content. So, my browser is able to use this URL and file_get_contents not. Does anybody know how it can be explained?

  • Would this predicate work ? this came on my quiz to find the position of element X in a data structure called list

    - by M.K
    example: position(1,list(1,list(2,nil)),Z). Z = 1. position(3,list(1,list(2,list(3,nil)),Z). Z = 3. where Z is the position of element X in a data structure of a list in the above format Here was my solution: position(X,list(nil),0). %empty list position(X,list(X,T),1). %list with X as head or first element position(X,list(H,T),Z):- position(X,list(T,nil),Z1), %X is in tail of list (H,T) Z is Z1 + 1.

  • How does "Open With" some app in iPhone work?

    - by nybon
As far as I know, from iOS SDK 3.2, file type handling is added and an iOS application can associate itself with some file type so that other applications can open this kind of file with the application. Because of the sandbox mechanism in iOS, I wonder when a file in appA is opened with appB, which registered itself with this kind of file, what will happen? Is this file copied to appB and both appA and appB keep a copy of this file? If the answer is yes, is it possible to make appB open the file under appA's document folder? I cannot find any Apple documentation on this. For example, appA stores a Keynote document in it, if I open this Keynote document with the Keynote app, is it possible to let Keynote app to edit this document in place so that after editing, appA can see the updated document? Any help is appreciated.

  • How can I make my Google Maps api v3 address search bar work by hitting the enter button on the keyboard?

    - by Gavin
I'm developing a webpage and I would just like to make something more user friendly. I have a functional Google Maps api v3 and an address search bar. Currently, I have to use the mouse to select search to initialize the geocoding function. How can I make the map return a placemark by hitting the enter button on my keyboard? I just want to make it as user-friendly as possible. Here is the javascript and div, respectively, I created for the address bar: var geocoder; function initialize() { geocoder = new google.maps.Geocoder (); function codeAddress () { var address = document.getElementById ("address").value; geocoder.geocode ( { 'address': address}, function(results, status) { if (status == google.maps.GeocoderStatus.OK) { map.setCenter(results [0].geometry.location); marker.setPosition(results [0].geometry.location); map.setZoom(14); } else { alert("Geocode was not successful for the following reason: " + status); } }); } <div id="geocoder"> <input id="address" type="textbox" value=""> <input type="button" value="Search" onclick="codeAddress()"> </div> Thank you in advance for your help

  • Why don't my groovy enums work, or even compile?

    - by ?????
    I'm running Groovy Version: 1.7.0 JVM: 1.6.0_17 (Update -- I just upgraded to 1.7.1 and get the same errors!) I've tried to use enums, using the exact syntax from the groovy documentation, and each time I see the compile error: Groovy:The class java.lang.Enum refers to the class java.lang.Enum and uses 1 parameters, but the referred class takes no parameters Any ideas on what's going on? For example: This code won't compile or run, and gets the error above. enum VehicleStatus { OFF, IDLING, ACCELERATING, DECELARATING } class Vehicle { Long id Long version VehicleStatus status }

  • What in-client caching options work well with Cassandra and Java?

    - by sanity
I'm currently architecting a system that must be capable of dealing with tens of thousands of writes per second. I am more-or-less settled on using Apache Cassandra for the persistence layer, and will be using Java for the application layer, but there are situations where I need to quickly access data in a way that picks up any changes within seconds. Hitting Cassandra every single time I need to check this data for changes will be too slow, which means I need to use some kind of application layer caching. To ensure that the cached data remains current, ideally it would support some kind of multicast-based cache invalidation. What are my options?

  • jQuery: How can I work with dates in this format? mm/yyyy

    - by Enrique
I'm doing a web application for articles Articles must be shown by month, with its published date stored as mm/yyyy Now: 1- Should I use a DATE type field for storing? 2- Will jQuery UI datePicker be useful for showing mm/yyyy? 3- How could I sort by mm/yyyy? I guess it will be more complicated if I store date normally and extract the day from date each time I want to do something, right? Thanks,

  • MPI_Bsend and MPI_Isend. How do they work ?

    - by GBBL
Hi, using buffered send and non blocking send I was wondering how and if they implement a new level of parallelism in my application eventually generating a thread. Imagine that a slave process generates a large amount of data and want to send it to the master. My idea was to start a buffered or non blocking send then immediately begin to compute the next result. Just when I would have to send the new data I wold check if I can reuse the buffer. This would introduce a new level of parallelism in my application between CPU and communication. Does anybody knows how this is done in MPI ? Does MPI generate a new thread to handle the Bsend or Isend ? Thanks.

  • How does including a .csv work in an enum?

    - by Tommy
enum ID // IDs { ID_HEADER = 0, // ID 0 = headers #include "DATA.CSV" ID_LIMIT }; I inherited some code here..... Looking at "DATA.CSV" I see all the ID's used to populate the enum in column B, along with other data. My question: How does the enum know that it is using "column B" to retrieve it's members? There must be some other logic in the application yet I don't see it. What else should I look for? Thanks.

  • How does timezone really work in relation to PHP and MYSQL?

    - by Rick
I am getting very strange results in terms of timezones. I am currently using Wordpress and everytime I register a new user, I see the wrong datetime in the database. Ok so I am suspecting it is picking up the server time. So then I then set in php.ini to have date.timezone = "America/Los_Angeles" but again the time is still not correct in the database...And yes I have also set the timezone in Wordpress correctly. So how can this be done?

  • Why does the :nth-child(2) selector work on what I expect to be :first-child?

    - by Ben
I have an example of what I'm trying to ask. I use this kind of format often. I'd expect to be able to select that first div with fieldset div:first-child { } but it seems that it's only grabbed by the 2nd child selector. I would expect "field 1" to be red and not blue. It makes more sense semantically (to me at least) to say "style the first div in the fieldset like so" instead of saying the 2nd. Why is this happening and is there a way to achieve the effect I want (to be able to call div:first-child)?
