  • php: parsing and converting array structure

    - by mwb
    I need to convert one array structure into another array structure. I hope someone will find it worthy their time to show how this could be done in a simple manner. It's a little above my array manipulation skills. The structure we start out with looks like this: $cssoptions = array( array( 'group' => 'Measurements' , 'selector' => '#content' , 'rule' => 'width' , 'value' => '200px' ) // end data set , array( 'group' => 'Measurements' , 'selector' => '#content' , 'rule' => 'margin-right' , 'value' => '20px' ) // end data set , array( 'group' => 'Colors' , 'selector' => '#content' , 'rule' => 'color' , 'value' => '#444' ) // end data set , array( 'group' => 'Measurements' , 'selector' => '.sidebar' , 'rule' => 'margin-top' , 'value' => '10px' ) // end data set ); // END $cssoptions It's a collection of discreet datasets, each consisting of an array that holds two key = value pairs describing a 'css-rule' and a 'css-rule-value'. Further, each dataset holds a key = value pair describing the 'css-selector-group' that the 'css-rule' should blong to, and a key = value pair describing a 'rule-group' that should be used for structuring the rendering of the final css into a neat css code block arranged by the kind of properties they describe (colors, measurement, typography etc..) Now, I need to parse that, and turn it into a new structure, where the: 'rule' => 'rule-name' , 'value' => 'value-string' for each dataset is converted into: 'rule-name' => 'value-string' ..and then placed into a new array structure where all 'rule-name' = 'value-string' pairs should be aggregated under the respective 'selector-values' Like this: '#content' => array( 'width' => '200px' , 'margin-right' => '20px' ) // end selecor block ..and finally all those blocks should be grouped under their respective 'style-groups', creating a final resulting array structure like this: $css => array( 'Measurements' => array( '#content' => array( 'width' => '200px' , 'margin-right' => '20px' ) // end selecor block , '.sidebar' => array( 'margin-top' => '10px' ) // end selector block ) // end rule group , 'Colors' => array( '#content' => array( 'color' => '#444' ) // end selector block ) // end rule group ); // end css

    - by Kaoukkos

  • PHP Array to CSV

    - by JohnnyFaldo
    I'm trying to convert an array of products into a CSV file, but it doesn't seem to be going to plan. The CSV file is one long line, here is my code: for($i=0;$i<count($prods);$i++) { $sql = "SELECT * FROM products WHERE id = '".$prods[$i]."'"; $result = $mysqli->query($sql); $info = $result->fetch_array(); } $header = ''; for($i=0;$i<count($info);$i++) { $row = $info[$i]; $line = ''; for($b=0;$b<count($row);$b++) { $value = $row[$b]; if ( ( !isset( $value ) ) || ( $value == "" ) ) { $value = "\t"; } else { $value = str_replace( '"' , '""' , $value ); $value = '"' . $value . '"' . "\t"; } $line .= $value; } $data .= trim( $line ) . "\n"; } $data = str_replace( "\r" , "" , $data ); if ( $data == "" ) { $data = "\n(0) Records Found!\n"; } header("Content-type: application/octet-stream"); header("Content-Disposition: attachment; filename=your_desired_name.xls"); header("Pragma: no-cache"); header("Expires: 0"); print "$data"; Also, the header doesn't force a download. I've been copy and pasting the output and saving as .csv

  • PHP/MySQL Interview - How would you have answered?

    - by martincarlin87
    I was asked this interview question so thought I would post it here to see how other users would answer: Please write some code which connects to a MySQL database (any host/user/pass), retrieves the current date & time from the database, compares it to the current date & time on the local server (i.e. where the application is running), and reports on the difference. The reporting aspect should be a simple HTML page, so that in theory this script can be put on a web server, set to point to a particular database server, and it would tell us whether the two servers’ times are in sync (or close to being in sync). This is what I put: // Connect to database server $dbhost = 'localhost'; $dbuser = 'xxx'; $dbpass = 'xxx'; $dbname = 'xxx'; $conn = mysql_connect($dbhost, $dbuser, $dbpass) or die (mysql_error()); // Select database mysql_select_db($dbname) or die(mysql_error()); // Retrieve the current time from the database server $sql = 'SELECT NOW() AS db_server_time'; // Execute the query $result = mysql_query($sql) or die(mysql_error()); // Since query has now completed, get the time of the web server $php_server_time = date("Y-m-d h:m:s"); // Store query results in an array $row = mysql_fetch_array($result); // Retrieve time result from the array $db_server_time = $row['db_server_time']; echo $db_server_time . '<br />'; echo $php_server_time; if ($php_server_time != $db_server_time) { // Server times are not identical echo '<p>Database server and web server are not in sync!</p>'; // Convert the time stamps into seconds since 01/01/1970 $php_seconds = strtotime($php_server_time); $sql_seconds = strtotime($db_server_time); // Subtract smaller number from biggest number to avoid getting a negative result if ($php_seconds > $sql_seconds) { $time_difference = $php_seconds - $sql_seconds; } else { $time_difference = $sql_seconds - $php_seconds; } // convert the time difference in seconds to a formatted string displaying hours, minutes and seconds $nice_time_difference = gmdate("H:i:s", $time_difference); echo '<p>Time difference between the servers is ' . $nice_time_difference; } else { // Timestamps are exactly the same echo '<p>Database server and web server are in sync with each other!</p>'; } Yes, I know that I have used the deprecated mysql_* functions but that aside, how would you have answered, i.e. what changes would you make and why? Are there any factors I have omitted which I should take into consideration? The interesting thing is that my results always seem to be an exact number of minutes apart when executed on my hosting account: 2012-12-06 11:47:07 2012-12-06 11:12:07

  • PHP - displaying 1 random record for each week

    - by mike
    I want to display 1 random record from a database based on the week. I need to determine if it's a new, and if it is a new week, then select the record and display the new record. I'm thinking I can just use a single day of the week to generate the new record, either way will work. I'm really having a hard time conceptualizing how I'll store the record id and not select a new one when someone visits again the same day or refreshes the page. Any ideas? Let me know if I wasn't clear enough.

  • Php random row help...

    - by Skillman
    I've created some code that will return a random row, (well, all the rows in a random order) But i'm assuming its VERY uneffiecent and is gonna be a problem in a big database... Anyone know of a better way? Here is my current code: $count3 = 1; $count4 = 1; //Civilian stuff... $query = ("SELECT * FROM `*Table Name*` ORDER BY `Id` ASC"); $result = mysql_query($query); while($row = mysql_fetch_array($result)) { $count = $count + 1; $civilianid = $row['Id']; $arrayofids[$count] = $civilianid; //echo $arrayofids[$count]; } while($alldone != true) { $randomnum = (rand()%$count) + 1; //echo $randomnum . "<br>"; //echo $arrayofids[$randomnum] . "<br>"; $currentuserid = $arrayofids[$randomnum]; $count3 += 1; while($count4 < $count3) { $count4 += 1; $currentarrayid = $listdone[$count4]; //echo "<b>" . $currentarrayid . ":" . $currentuserid . "</b> "; if ($currentarrayid == $currentuserid){ $found = true; //echo " '" .$found. "' "; } } if ($found == true) { //Reset array/variables... $count4 = 1; $found = false; } else { $listdone[$count3] = $currentuserid; //echo "<u>" . $count3 .";". $listdone[$count3] . "</u> "; $query = ("SELECT * FROM `*Tablesname*` WHERE Id = '$currentuserid'"); $result = mysql_query($query); $row = mysql_fetch_array($result); $username = $row['Username']; echo $username . "<br>"; $count4 = 1; $amountdone += 1; if ($amountdone == $count) { //$count $alldone = true; } } } Basically it will loop until its gets an id (randomly) that hasnt been chosen yet. -So the last username could take hours :P Is this 'bad' code? :P :(

  • PHP radio button check if null

    - by Dallox
    So in class we get this school task where we need to check if one of the fields in unfilled and display an error. No we did this but for some strange reason it doesnt display a error when a radio button is unchecked. (textfield null check works fine) I've tried with a friend many possabilities but they all doesnt seem to work. We have been stuck at this task for 2 hours. Now we have tried making seperate if's but that doesnt seem to work too. These are the important parts: <p> <input type="hidden" name="taal" value="false"> Choose a language <input type="radio" name="taal" value="N"> Dutch <input type="radio" name="taal" value="E"> English <input type="radio" name="taal" value="S"> Spanish if (@$_POST['taal'] == null){ echo "No Language gotten"; return; }

  • php string to array and split

    - by RussP
    Hi folks Looking for suggestions as to the best way to do this (I know there are many options): take a variable like this: $args = ('post_type=post&order_by=DESC&limit=10'); the create a function to convert that variable into parts like this: $post_type = post; $order_by = DESC; $limit= 10; Reason is I want a client to be able to use a string like the first to pass variables to a sql query in much the same way (but doesn't have to be exact) as you can do it in WordPress.

  • num_rows is 0 when it should be >0 for php mysqli code

    - by jpporterVA
    My num_rows is coming back as 0, and I've tried calling it several ways, but I'm stuck. Here is my code: $conn = new mysqli($dbserver, "dbuser", "dbpass", $dbname); // get the data $sql = 'SELECT AT.activityName, AT.createdOn FROM userActivity UA, users U, activityType AT WHERE U.userId = UA.userId and AT.activityType = UA.activityType and U.username = ? order by AT.createdOn'; $stmt = $conn->stmt_init(); $stmt->prepare($sql); $stmt->bind_param('s', $requestedUsername); $stmt->bind_result($activityName, $createdOn); $stmt->execute(); // display the data $numrows = $stmt->num_rows; $result=array("user activity report for: " . $requestedUsername . " with " . $numrows . " rows:"); $result[]="Created On --- Activity Name"; while ($stmt->fetch()) { $msg = " " . $createdOn . " --- " . $activityName . " "; $result[] = $msg; } $stmt->close(); There are multiple rows found, and the fetch loop process them just fine. Any suggestions on what will enable me to get the number of rows returned in the query? Suggestions are much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

  • Login system and sessions (php)

    - by Jonathan
    I've created a login page and registration page and now I want to use that to password protect pages and have pages which show information specific to that user. Would storing the user ID of the user logged in in a Session variable be a safe and correct way of doing this? How easy would it be for a user to change the session variable to a different ID and access another user's information, and not having to type the users login details in?

Mind that I have no way to modify the class, so I have to work on the way of using it. Thanks

  • php and SQL_CALC_FOUND_ROWS

    - by Lizard
    I am trying to add the SQL_CALC_FOUND_ROWS into a query (Please note this isn't for pagination) please note I am trying to add this to a cakePHP query the code I currently have is below: return $this->find('all', array( 'conditions' => $conditions, 'fields'=>array('SQL_CALC_FOUND_ROWS','Category.*','COUNT(`Entity`.`id`) as `entity_count`'), 'joins' => array('LEFT JOIN `entities` AS Entity ON `Entity`.`category_id` = `Category`.`id`'), 'group' => '`Category`.`id`', 'order' => $sort, 'limit'=>$params['limit'], 'offset'=>$params['start'], 'contain' => array('Domain' => array('fields' => array('title'))) )); Note the 'fields'=>array('SQL_CALC_FOUND_ROWS',' this obviously doesn't work as It tries to apply the SQL_CALC_FOUND_ROWS to the table e.g. SELECTCategory.SQL_CALC_FOUND_ROWS, Is there anyway of doing this? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
