• FF extension. how to show data extracted in a javascript function to the dropdown menu in the browse

  I am developing a ff extension. On one menupopup, the onpopupshowing calls a javascript function. Tha JS function extracts a list of names. Now these names have to be displayed in the same popup. How can i get this? Basically i will need to pass the data (just as we use beans in java) to the browser from the JS function. The data can change everytime the popup is called.

• Session management in Rails (2.3)

  Apparently, after upgrading to Rails 2.3 my session storage has stopped working. I used to have this: session :session_expires = 3.years.from_now in my application_controller.rb, but now every time i close the browser (chrome) the session expires. I read from somewhere that session_expires would have changed to expire_after, but session :expire_after = 3.years.from_now didn't do any good eihter.

  Hi - how do I push server alerts to tray apps in java without using xmpp or other heavy protocols? Do you recommend a way to accomplish this? I was planning to write an app which uses URLConnection on a server equipped with Comet but I doubt if that would work as the client requires a JS to be invoked and URLConnection is not a browser.. What is the best way to push instead of using a proprietary client-server approach?

• Serving .docx files through Php

  Hi, I'm having issues when attempting to serve a .docx file using Php. When uploading the file I detect the file mime type and upload the file using the file with the correct extension based on the mime type; e.g. below: application/msword - doc application/vnd.openxmlformats-officedocument.wordprocessingml.document - docx When attempting to serve the files for download, I do the reverse in detecting the extension and serving based on the mime type e.g. public static function fileMimeType($extention) { if(!is_null($extention)) { switch($extention) { case 'txt': return 'text/plain'; break; case 'odt': return 'application/vnd.oasis.opendocument.text'; break; case 'doc': return 'application/msword'; break; case 'docx': return 'application/vnd.openxmlformats-officedocument.wordprocessingml.document'; break; case ('jpg' || 'jpeg'): return 'image/jpeg'; break; case 'png': return 'image/png'; break; case 'pdf': return 'application/pdf'; break; default: break; } } } All files appear to download correctly and open fine but when attempting to open a docx file, Word (on multiple files) throws a error stating the file is corrupt. • have a width larger than 960px with 960?

  if i use the custom css generator on their webpage i can have a wider width than 960? so isnt the name 960 kind of misleading? and some persons say that you cant have a flexible grid system (that changes with your browser size) with 960. but you can download a fluid version from the custom css generator. so apparently they didnt know what they were talking about? would be great if someone could straight these things out.

• jQuery slideToggle - when div is toggled it pushes content out of viewable area (IE)

  This is an annoying ocurrance in IE when I use the jQuery slideToggle effect. Without the div being open, page looks normal. The minute I toggle the div open, it extends past the current content, overtop of the footer, and out of the viewable browser area (Even after scrolling all the way down). This feature seems to work just fine in firefox. Do I need an additional hack or CSS to make it work in IE8?
