  • Oracle ORA-01795 error in Rails

    Hi, I am using Oracle as database for my Rails applications and have got some pretty intense tables. I'm trying to find the particular entries using a query like this Author.all( :conditions => { :name => names } ) I have been working SQlite all along and just migrated to Oracle which complains that IN clause has more than 1000 entries. Obvious workaround would be to break it into subclauses for which I need to write some raw sql queries. Is there anything in Rails that facilitate this?

  • Set a session hash outside of RoR program?

    Hi, I have had my new rails program up for a few days now. I'm running it on Ubuntu 10.4 with apache2 in another location than the website it's made for (it's a standalone database application for physiotherapists). The people I made it for now want me to deploy it to the public part of their website, only with one change. Those who open it via the link in the public-part should not be able to click one button! I was thinking of doing something like this in my view: <% if session[:inside]%> <%=button_to 'Sækja mælitæki', @link_to_mt%> <%end%> How could I set session[:inside] only to true if the program was started from within the private part of the webpage? I thought of creating two new actions, the other would set session[:inside] to true and the other to false, but that seems to me like a security risk, is it not? BR, Sindri

    I'm using form_for to create a chatroom and when I view the page I get the following error: NoMethodError in Chatrooms#new undefined method `chatrooms_path' for #<#<Class:0xa862b94>:0xa5307f0> Here's the code for the view, located in app/views/chatrooms/new.html.erb: <div class="center"> <%= form_for(@chatroom) do |f| %> <%=f.text_field :topic%> <br> <%=f.submit "Start a discussion", class: "btn btn-large btn-primary"%> <% end %> </div> Here's the relevant controller: class ChatroomsController < ApplicationController def new @chatroom = Chatroom.new end def show @chatroom = Chatroom.find(params[:id]) end end If I change the line <%= form_for(@chatroom) do |f| %> to <%= form_for(:chatroom) do |f| %> it works fine. I've searched around for similar questions but none of the solutions have worked for me. Help?

    I am trying to build a search functionality which at a high level works like this. 1 - I have a Search model, controller with a search_set action and search views/partial to render the search. 2 - At the home page a serach form is loaded with an empty search object or a search object initialized with session[:search] (which contains user search preferences, zip code, proximity, sort order, per page etc). This form has a post(:put) action to search_set. 3 - When a registered user performs a set the params of the search form are collected and a search record is saved against that user. If a unregistered user performs a search then the search set action simply stores the params in the session[:search]. In either case, the search is executed with the given params and the results are displayed. At this point the url of in the location bar is something like.. http://localhost:3000/searches/search_set?stype=1 At this point if the user simply hits enter on the location bar, I get an error that says "No action responded to show" I am guessing because the URL contains search_set which uses a put method and even though I have a search_show (:get) action (which simply reruns the search in the session or saved in the database) does not get called. How can I handle this situation where I can route a user hitting enter into the location bar to a get method? If this does not explain the problem , please let me know I can share more details/code etc. Thanks!

  • rails 3.1 partial_updates doesn't seem to work with password

    i have a user model with a password attribute, which gets saved as password_digest. What i want to do is have the edit user page and the edit password page separated, so that the admin doesn't need to input the password everytime he needs to change something else. For this i have made an extra action / view. My problem is that when i update the user info, i get password validation errors even though i have no password field in the form. Which leads me to the conclusion that partial_updates isn't working with the password attribute (as i have already tested in the console that it is enabled, and it is) Is this me doing something wrong, or should i approach this differently?

I have a few records for example, one with "another time test" and another with "last test of time" if i search "test" the first comes up but the second doesn't, and if i search "time" the second comes up but not the first. It is only seeing the last word of the record. what gives?

  • Import Excel into Rails app

    Hi, I am creating a small rails app for personal use and would like to be able to upload excel files to later be validated and added to the database. I had this working previously with csv files, but this has since become impractical. Does anyone know of a tutorial for using the roo or spreadsheet gem to upload the file, display the contents to the user and then add to the database (after validating)? I know this is quite specific, but I want to work through this step by step. All I have so far is an 'import' view: <% form_for :dump, :url=>{:controller=>"students", :action=>"student_import"}, :html => { :multipart => true } do |f| -%> Select an Excel File : <%= f.file_field :excel_file -%> <%= submit_tag 'Submit' -%> <% end -%> But have no idea how to access this uploaded file in the controller.   • HABTM checking for match of latest 3

    Here's an interesting one for you folks... I have a HABTM (has_and_belongs_to_many) relationship between "Dogs" and "Trips". My goal is to find two result sets: 1) Dogs that have been on at least 1 of the last 3 trips and call that @dogs_current 2) Dogs that have NOT been on any of the last 3 trips and call that @dogs_old I found that I can find what the last 3 trips are by doing this in the Trip model: named_scope :last3, :order => 'date DESC', :limit => 3 But not sure how to use that list get 1 and 2. This hack works, but it seems ugly. There must be a better way! :) @dogs_current = [] @dogs_old = [] @dogs.each do |dog| if (Trip.last3 - dog.trips).size < 3 then @dogs_current << dog else @dogs_old << dog end end Any ideas?   • Merging rows with uniqueness constraints

    I've got a little time-tracking web app (implemented in Rails 3.2.8 & MySQL). The app has several users who add their time to specific tasks, on a given date. The system is set up so a user can only have 1 time entry (i.e. row) per task per date. I.e. if you add time twice on the same task and date, it'll add time to the existing row, rather than create a new one. Now I'm looking to merge 2 tasks. In the simplest terms, merging task ID 2 into task ID 1 would take this time | user_id | task_id | date ------+----------+----------+----------- 10 | 1 | 1 | 2012-10-29 15 | 2 | 1 | 2012-10-29 10 | 1 | 2 | 2012-10-29 5 | 3 | 2 | 2012-10-29 and change it into this time | user_id | task_id | date ------+----------+----------+----------- 20 | 1 | 1 | 2012-10-29 <-- time values merged (summed) 15 | 2 | 1 | 2012-10-29 <-- no change 5 | 3 | 1 | 2012-10-29 <-- task_id changed (no merging necessary) I.e. merge by summing the time values, where the given user_id/date/task combo would conflict. I figure I can use a unique constraint to do a ON DUPLICATE KEY UPDATE ... if I do an insert for every task_id=2 entry. But that seems pretty inelegant. I've also tried to figure a way to first update all the rows in task 1 with the summed-up times, but I can't quite figure that one out. Any ideas?

Model User has_many groups, clients and products. In translation this would be status = User.find(import.user_id).groups.import(import.file.path) status = User.find(import.user_id).clients.import(import.file.path) status = User.find(import.user_id).products.import(import.file.path) I was thinking of import = Import.find(id) status = eval("User.find(#{import.user_id}).#{import.model}").import(import.file.path) but this gives me an error 'TypeError: can't convert nil into String'.     I have a notifications table which contains different types of notifications for different events. Inside the table is a notifications_type:string column that contains the type of notification, i.e. "foo" or "bar" or "oof" I want the user to be able to select what notifications they want to display, so there are checkboxes below the result that correspond to prefs_display_foo:boolean, prefs_display_bar:boolean in the User model. What is an elegant way for me to set the :conditions in the find to properly display the sorted results? Also, currently I have it as a method in the user, but how would I do it as a has_many :notifications, :conditions = .....

  • rails separate login for an api

    I have a very simple api that is part of a rails app that requires logging in. I just need a way to make the api part accessible with a simple form that allows the user to enter parameters like a key (just a simple one stored in the DB, no OAuth or anything), a userId to find and return a user via json, and maybe some other parameters like asking for their schedule.     I want to rename a table... (any table.) I tried this line of code: ActiveRecord::ConnectionAdapters::SchemaStatements.rename_table(old_name, new_name) Here's the weird thing. I know I got it working the first time, but now I get this error: undefined method `rename_table' for ActiveRecord::ConnectionAdapters::SchemaStatements:Module Was there something I need to set?
