• Connection to webservice times out first time

  My application needs to connect to a web service. The WSDL file given by the client was converted to java using the wsdl2java utility in axis 2-1.5.2. The problem occurs during the first connection to the webservice.   We need to build a new web server for our organization. We have around 100 hundred small traffic web sites, so our hardware requirements are not too tough. We run CentOS 6, Varnish+Apache, PHP, MySQL, Typo3 CMS for most of websites. Here's a hardware we want to buy: SuperMicro X9SCA-F-O (we need to have a remote management capability) (or better X9SCM-F?) Intel Xeon E3-1220 v2 2*4Gb DDR-III 1600MHz Kingston ECC (KVR16E11/4) (currently we have 4gb, and it feels like enough, so no reason for 16gb yet). Procase EB140-B-0 (1 unit) PSU 350W Procase MG1350, Active PFC We already have: Intel 335 120GB SSD (for OS, databases and important websites). 2*2tb WD Green RAID1 (for other data and backups). Does it look like a reasonable choice for our needs? Any issues with hardware compatibility? Any other notes?

  Our production servers all have the same machine key. However, our production and development systems do not have identical machine keys. We get heaps (about one per second) of exceptions of the form System.Security.Cryptography.CryptographicException: Padding is invalid and cannot be removed. at System.Security.Cryptography.RijndaelManagedTransform.DecryptData() at System.Security.Cryptography.RijndaelManagedTransform.TransformFinalBlock() at System.Security.Cryptography.CryptoStream.FlushFinalBlock() at System.Web.Configuration.MachineKeySection.EncryptOrDecryptData() at System.Web.UI.Page.DecryptStringWithIV()... We deploy the code after a build, .cs source is not present on production. aspx files are present on production. (Should I have posted in Stack Overflow? It's not a coding question.) From experimentation, we've found using the dev machine key value causes the exceptions to go away. Does anyone have documentation that I can use with the security team on the need for identical keys at compile and deployment time?

  I'm having problem with CSS where, when I run on Mozilla Firefox the CSS is doing fine. But when I run inside Internet Explorer, the CSS is not working. When I try to change the code in the CSS file, it works otherwise. Mozilla is OK, but Internet Explorer is not. I have an idea calling 2 different CSS. For example, style_IE.css and style_moz.css. Both CSS files will be called from header.html. How can I fix this problem? Is there some code that can distinguish between browsers? Whenever the user is running in Internet Explorer, then style_IE is called if not it otherwise.

  Lately I have been receiving a lot of segmentation fault warnings on my web-server. The warnings look like: [notice] child pid xxxx exit signal Segmentation fault (11) I have consulted with the server provider (it is a dedicated redhat enterprise server) and they could not find anything. What I have done so far: Since the error I have already tried the following: I have added more ram I have turned off / turned on several php modules (they sent me to a web-page someone had the same problem, caused by an excessive amount of php modules) At the moments the warnings occur, there seems to be plenty of free ram left and the number of processes is very low (the number of httpd processes is about a quarter of the maximum allowed). What can be causing these errors? Edit: current versions apache: 2.0.52 php: 5.2.8 RHEL 4 Edit 2: Although I asked this a long time ago, I never was able to solve it until I upgraded to php 5.3.

  I am looking for a simple web application that only has a simple graphical representation of the current status of 30+ lecture rooms. I.e. Green = good, Red=bad i.e. PC or Projector not working. With a little message and a ETA as well. I am not looking for monitoring software, merely a way for a tech to flag a room as "technically challenged" until 1PM or until "Friday 10AM". With a message for those lecturers who are interested: "Waiting on replacement bulb" or "Power supply gone" I know this is a simple thing to code up yourself, but I am looking for something that has been around for a few years that has some cool extra little functionality that you wouldn't think of yourself. I just can't find anything like that out there. And just to be clear: not monitoring software, more like lecturer feedback web app.

  I have a MVC2 web application on W2KR2/IIS7 that I'd like to benchmark/monitor. Some XHR requests by a browser-based client are suddenly taking 8-10 sec when they used to take much less time (as per Chrome Developer Tool timings). The underlying SQL Server queries, using the same params, runs in 1.4s according to total execution time client statistics from SSMS. I'm assuming that there are various counters that can specifically dissect time taken/waiting/processing between IIS7 itself and the web application? For example, can I check how long it takes to get a response from IIS7 app and DB? How about how long it takes to serve IIS7?

• Adding IP address to OpenVZ VPS (OpenVZ Web Panel)

  I apologise if I sound at all dumb. This is my first dedicated server having used a VPS for over a year and I'm trying to setup a VPS on this new server. I purchased a subnet from my hosting provider that I believe allows me 6 usable IP addresses: 177.xx.xxx.201 - 177.xx.xxx.206 The subnet address looks like this: 177.xx.xxx.200/29. I've gone on my server and added them like it said on a wiki like so: ip addr add 177.**.***.201/29 dev eth0 I done that for all six and now when I go to them in the browser they point to my server. The problem is, I'm using OpenVZ web panel to create VMs (http://code.google.com/p/ovz-web-panel/) so I created a VM and assigned one of those IPs to it. However when SSHing to that IP it SSH's to the dedicated server and not the VM. Am I missing something?

  I would like to get a dedicated server to run VMWare, VirtualBox, or similar. On this box, I would like to host 3-4 virtual instances of Linux, to act as nodes in a web farm. Performance is not that important, this would only be for testing and experimenting. I need something sub $1000 (including tax/shipping). Can someone recommend a pre-built server that would do the trick? I am pretty ignorant of hardware so building one is not going to work for me. • 100% height on nested table cell in IE

  I want a nested table to expand to the height of the enclosing cell. This works as expected in Firefox/Chrome/Safari, but not in IE7 or IE8. Please see the example here: http://www.bitmechanic.com/heightDemo.html The DOCTYPE is relevant. While the demo above validates as HTML 4.01 Strict, it does not render properly in IE7. If I remove the DOCTYPE entirely, or set it to HTML 3.2, it renders properly in IE. Any suggestions on how to get this to render in 4.01 (strict or loose)? The actual web site is a bit more complicated -- changing the DOCTYPE will cause all sorts of other problems. We're struggling to understand the (presumed) IE bug here and how to work around it. thanks -- James

All my images and videos are in /var/www/media. I've taken a look at bbgallery, which is simple enough for me, but I don't think it supports video. I've also looked at Single File PHP Gallery, but it doesn't support video. Does anyone know of a gallery that supports video as well, which I can use for my web server? We currently use Google Analytics for site traffic monitoring but were looking to move to awstats due to concerns of inaccuracy with Google Analytics and using third-party trackers in general. I have a little experience with awstats and I know it gets its information from parsing server logs. How would this work when you have multiple web servers logging independently to separate locations? Is this supported with awstats? Is there an alternative I could use to track traffic activity directly on my servers?

I am trying to load the data in Select element using Ajax, for that i am using jQuery's Ajax functions.   I am on a team of three people who are developing a Silverlight application. On two of our developers' machines the app seems to randomly crash. It never crashes on the third developer's machine. The nature of the crash is that internet explorer just dies with an "Internet Explorer has stopped working" message. How should I go about debugging this problem? I'm not really sure where to start.

• JW Player: cross-browser "display:none" player behavior

  Is there a simple, upfront method to have FF and IE treat hidden JW Players the same? I am placing different instances of the player dynamically in jQuery generated tabs. In effect, switching tabs hides the parent div of each player. In FireFox, the tab switch and accompanying "display" change stops the player. This doesn't happen in IE. I would like it to. What is the easiest way to have both browsers act the same? I am hoping for a CSS/HTML solution, either thorough the way the players are embedded or a style rule Otherwise I suppose I will need to add an item listener that compares the currently selected tab id to currently active players... but I'd rather not go that route. Thanks for your tips! EDIT: So, I'd rather be able to change the player CSS or markup on tab change than send stop events to all the players but the player in the currently active tab.

My question - how do you retrieve the subversion version of that css file to include in the link? Subversion keywords only tell you the revision of the file you are currently in.
