    What are the best options for real-time collaborative editing for .NET development? (C#,VB.NET, ASP.NET - not Mono unless it is the best way to get collaboration) 1) Anything possible with visual studio? 2) Collaborative editors? I know Eclipse has real-time collaboration, but I don't know how far you can combine it with .NET support. 3) Web-based tools? 4) Desktop sharing tools like VNC, NX etc. The main points is that 2 developers in different locations should be able to see edits in real time. Both should be able to edit, or it should be easy to switch control. Regarding .NET, syntax highlighting etc is better than nothing.

    I realize something like this has been asked, but this may be a little different Below is my Event object: Event : IEvent public int Id public string Title public List<EventContact> Contacts And EventContact: EventContact public int Id public string Name So, an Event has a list of EventContact' objects. Now, Event also implements IEvent - hence the custom model binder. I useIEventinstead of Event, so when the default model binder tries to do its thing, it lets me know it can't create anIEvent'. I have my view with populated with the contact info: <input type="text" name="contact[0].Name" value="DB Value"/> <input type="text" name="contact[1].Name" value="DB Value"/> <input type="text" name="contact[2].Name" value="DB Value"/> <!-- Event fields, etc --> So, in my custom model binder I am able to see all the value - sweet! The only thing is, I'm really not sure how to get all the contact fields and create a list of contacts from them, along with binding all the Event fields. Any and all help is appreciated!

    Hi, I have a MVC app where I have a User class and the user can also impersonate another user(Admin users only). So I have this code below that authenticates the request and instantiates my version of a User class. It then tries to get the impersonated user from the Session object but Session is not available in this method in the global.asax. Hope this makes sense.     Say I have a table like this: Field1 Field2 Field3 Field4 fred tom fred harry tom tom dick harry harry and I want to determine what proportion of it has been completed for each field. I can execute: SELECT COUNT (Field1) WHERE (Field1 <> '') AS Field1Count SELECT COUNT (Field2) WHERE (Field2 <> '') AS Field2Count SELECT COUNT (Field3) WHERE (Field3 <> '') AS Field3Count SELECT COUNT (Field4) WHERE (Field4 <> '') AS Field4Count Is it possible to roll up these separate SQL statements into one that will return the 4 results in one hit? Is there any performance advantage to doing so (given that the number of columns and rows may be quite large in practice)?

I tried implementing my pages' custom error messages using his method, yet there are some problems I can't quite explain. a) When I provoke a 404 Error by entering in invalid URL such as localhost:3001/NonexistantPage, it defaults to the ServerError() Action of my error controller even though it should go to NotFound(). Thanks! *EDIT : * I can directly navigate to my views through the ErrorController by accessing /Error/NotFound or Error/ServerError. The views themselves only contain some text, no markup or anything. As I said, it actually works in some way, just not the way I intended it to work. There seems to be an issue with the redirect in the web.config, but I haven't been able to figure it out.

Sales" End If Basically what is happening is, if a certain radio button is selected and the user didn't click the checkbox the default regions are included and they are hardcoded because the query runs much faster. if the user did click the checkbox then the textbox where they type the specific regions shows up and it will run the query that includes the dbo.B605SaleAsOfAdvancedMaster.SDESCR in (" & TextBox1.Text & ") If you can somehow do this using parameters and not with the textbox1.text in the query it will run much faster for me thanks for your help

    I have a MVC application that I am now trying to add authentication and authorization to. I want to allow users to get to the site and be automatically authenticated. So I set authentication mode="Windows" in the web.config, and enabled NTLM in the project options. The site now shows my domain name in the top right when I run it, but when I hit a action than needs DB access, it tells me access is denied for my user-name? What step am I missing?

  • ASP.NET Membership C# - How to compare existing password/hash

    I have been on this problem for a while. I need to compare a paasword that the user enters to a password that is in the membership DB. The password is hashed and has a salt. Because of the lack of documentation I do not know if the salt is append to the password and then hashed how how it is created. I am unable to get this to match. The hash returned from the function never matches the hash in the DB and I know for fact it is the same password. Microsoft seems to hash the password in a different way then I am. I hope someone has some insights please.   • IIS7 - Specifying content-length header in ASP causes "connection reset" error

    I'm migrating a series of websites from an existing IIS5 server to a brand new IIS7 web server. One of the pages pulls a data file from a blob in the database and serves it to the end user: Response.ContentType = rs("contentType") Response.AddHeader "Content-Disposition", "attachment;filename=" & Trim(rs("docName"))&rs("suffix")' let the browser know the file name Response.AddHeader "Content-Length", cstr(rs("docsize"))' let the browser know the file size Testing this in the new IIS7 install, I get a "Connection Reset" error in both Internet Explorer and Firefox. The document is served up correctly if the Content-Length header is removed (but then the user won't get a useful progress bar). Any ideas on how to correct this; whether it be a server configuration option or via code? Thanks.

  • ASP.NET MVC Paging for a search form

    I've read several different posts on paging w/ in MVC but none describe a scenario where I have something like a search form and then want to display the results of the search criteria (with paging) beneath the form once the user clicks submit. My problem is that, the paging solution I'm using will create <a href="..."> links that will pass the desired page like so: http://mysite.com/search/2/ and while that's all fine and dandy, I don't have the results of the query being sent to the db in memory or anything so I need to query the DB again. If the results are handled by the POST controller action for /Search and the first page of the data is rendered as such, how do I get the same results (based on the form criteria specified by the user) when the user clicks to move to page 2? Some javascript voodoo? Leverage Session State? Make my GET controller action have the same variables expected by the search criteria (but optional), when the GET action is called, instantiate a FormCollection instance, populate it and pass it to the POST action method (there-by satisfying DRY)? Can someone point me in the right direction for this scenario or provide examples that have been implemented in the past? Thanks!

  • Setting objects (not users) inactive after period of time in asp.net mvc

    This question is mainly to verify my current idea. I have a series of objects which I want to be active for a specified amount of time. For instance objects like ads which are shown in the ad space only for the amount of time bought, objects in search results which should only pop up when active, and frontpage posts which should be set to inactive after a prespecified time. My current idea is to just give those type of objects a StartDate and EndDate and filter the search routines to only show results which fall in the range StartDate < currentDate < EndDate. Is this the normal structure or should there be some sort of auto-routine which routinely checks for objects which are "over-time" and set a property "inactive" to true or something. Seems like this approach is such a hassle since I need a checker which runs say, every 5 minutes, to scan all DB objects. Seems like a bad idea to me. So is the first structure the most commonly used or are there any other options? When searching on google or SO the search queries only return results setting users inactive.
