• SqlBulkCopy unusual TimeOut Error

  I have a SqlBulkCopy operation that is taking data from an MS-Access 2007 database (via OleDbConnection) and using SqlBulkCopy to transfer that data to a SQL Server database. This has previously been working and continues to work for one MS-Access database, but not the other. I get the error message: Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding. It is hard to believe it is a timeout ast the oledbCommand.CommandTimeout = 0 the sqlBulkCopy.BulkCopyTimeout = 0 and on either side (MS-Access and SQL Server the timeouts have now been set to 0). Are there other issues/exceptions that the above error message could be hiding? Is there a way to determine what the base cause of a sqlBulkCopy.WriteToServer exception is (there doesn't appear to be any inner exceptions etc...)

• Casting between classes that share the same interface

  I have two interfaces IHeaderRow, and IDetailRow I then have an object that implements both RawRow:IHeaderRow, IDetailRow I then need to cast it to HeaderRow which implements IHeaderRow. But when I try, it ends up being null or giving an exception. I can cast ObjectRawRow to either interface IHeaderRow, or IDetailRow var ObjectIHeaderRow = ObjectRawRow as IHeaderRow; var ObjectIDetailRow = ObjectRawRow as IDetailRow; But I can not cast ObjectRawRow to HeaderRow , or ObjectIHeaderRow to HeaderRow. It throws the error Cannot convert source type 'IA' to target type 'A' I need to cast it into the actual class HeaderRow. Thoughts?

This action is done thousands of times a day, and I get this exception about once every 5 seconds. From what I understand it happens when something changes in the database in the period between creating DataContext and updating it. Am I right? What's the problem here and how can I fix it?

• java.lang.UnsupportedClassVersionError in eclipse

  Hi all, I am not a Java programmer really, so I am posting this question. The exception is being thrown java.lang.UnsupportedClassVersionError in my main class in an eclipse project. If I comment out the imports that this class has, it compiles and runs fine. If I put the imports back in, it does not work. Does this mean that the libraries I am importing were compiled with a newer or older version of java than I have? when i do java -version on the system i get 1.5_07 I could've sworn this was actually working last week, but maybe some setting in eclipse got tweaked? Is the Java Build Path in eclipse what I need to look for to check the JRE and compiler versions?

• The Elegant way to handle Cyclic Event in Java ??

  Hi fellows, i think this not a specific problem to me; everybody might have encountered this issue before. To properly illustrate it, here's a simple UI: As you can see, those two spinners are controlling a single variable -- "A". The only difference is that they control it using different views. If i change the top spinner, "A" will be changed and the bottom spinner's value will also be updated accordingly. However, updating the bottom spinner's call (such as setValue) will also trigger another event instructing the top spinner to update based on the bottom spinner's value. Thus creates a bad cycle which can eventually cause a StackOverFlow exception. My previously solution is kinda cumbersome: i placed a guarding boolean to indicate whether the 2nd updating call should be performed. Now i'd like to ask "how can i handle such situation elegantly?" thx

• How to handle concurrency control in dynamic data?

  I've been quite impressed with dynamic data and how easy and quick it is to get a simple site up and running. I'm planning on using it for a simple internal HR admin site for registering people's skills/degrees/etc. I've been watching the intro videos at www.asp.net/dynamicdata and one thing they never mention is how to handle concurrency control. It seems that DD does not handle it right out of the box (unless there is some setting I haven't seen) as I manually generated a change conflict exception and the app failed without any user friendly message. Anybody know if DD handles it out of the box? Or do you have to somehow build it into the site?

• ArrayBlockingQueue - How to "interrupt" a thread that is wating on .take() method

  I use an ArrayBlockingQueue in my code. Clients will wait untill an element becomes available: myBlockingQueue.take(); How can I "shutdown" my service in case no elements are present in the queue and the take() ist wating indefenitely for an element to become available? This method throws an InterruptedException. My question is, how can I "evoke" an Interrupted Exception so that take() will quit? (I also tought about notify(), but it seems I doesnt help here..) I know I could insert an special "EOF/QUIT" marker Element but is this really the only solution? UPDATE (regarding the comment, that points to another question with two solutions: one mentioned above using a "Poisoning Pill Object" and the second one is Thread.interrupt(): The myBlockingQueue.take() is used NOT in a Thread (extending Thread) but rather implements Runnable. It seems a Runnable does not provide the .interrupt() method? How could I interrupt the Runnable? Million Thanks Bernhard

• Silverlight datagrid don't show any data with anonymous query RIA services

I have an anonymous linq query that I bind to a datagrid, when I debug it brings alright the data but it doesn't show in the datagrid, I suspect that the request to RIA services isn't completed before I bound it to the datagrid. I could use the LoadOperation<() Completed event. But it only works with Defined Entities so how can I do that? Essentially, I would like to truncate a string such that it its length is not longer than a given value. I am writing to a database table and want to ensure that the values I write meet the constraint of the column's datatype. For instance, it would be nice if I could write the following: string NormalizeLength(string value, int maxLength) { return value.Substring(0, maxLength); } Unfortunately, this raises an exception because maxLength exceeds the string boundaries. • Good workflow with emacs+swank+slime+clojure?

  I just wanted opinion on good workflow using the emacs environment with clojure+swank+slime. I often find myself doing very repetitive keycommands and wonder if there is an obvious better way. I include swank with lein and start my project using lein swank from shell. Then I connect with emacs and do the correct use commands so that I can start to use (run-tests ). Then I do some coding and then want to test. To run the test I need to change buffer in emacs to the swank-repl C-x o, then I need to go to the prompt M-, then repeat the command M-p, then enter, maybe with an exception, then back to the code buffer and continue all over again with all the emacs commands. I find it a bit repetitive. I guess the solution would be to start hack on emacs and maybe add a shortcut for doing this repetitive task, but I would love to hear some suggestions because I can't be the only one who find this tedious?

  I have 2 classes: Person and Contact. Person class has a property named ContactNumber which returns the Contact type, and this property is marked as a DataMember for serialization. I have marked Contact type as a DataContract. I need programmatically way/sample code to perform a fastest 'trans-wrap' on iPhone/iPad application I tried to set AVAssetExportSession.outputFileType property to AVFileTypeMPEG4 but it not supported and I got exception I tried to do this transform using AVAssetWriter by specifying fileType:AVFileTypeMPEG4, actually I got .mp4 output file, but it was not 'wrap-trans', the output file was  3x bigger than source, and the convert process took 128 sec for video with 60 sec duration. I need solution that will run quickly and will keep the file size  please help
