  • How do I wait until a console application is idle?

    - by Anthony Mastrean
I have a console application that starts up, hosts a bunch of services (long-running startup), and then waits for clients to call into it. I have integration tests that start this console application and make "client" calls. How do I wait for the console application to complete its startup before making the client calls? I want to avoid doing Thread.Sleep(int) because that's dependent on the startup time (which may change) and I waste time if the startup is faster. Process.WaitForInputIdle works only on applications with a UI (and I confirmed that it does throw an exception in this case). I'm open to awkward solutions like, have the console application write a temp file when it's ready.

  • Read/Write protected memory?

    - by PenguinBoy
I'm trying to learn C++ currently, but I'm having issues with the code below. class Vector2 { public: double X; double Y; Vector2(double X, double Y) { this->X = X; this->Y = Y; }; SDL_Rect * getSdlOffset() { SDL_Rect * offset = new SDL_Rect(); offset->x = this->X; offset->y = this->Y; return offset; }; }; Visual studio throws throw the following error when calling getSdlOffset() An unhandled exception of type 'System.AccessViolationException' occurred in crossEchoTest.exe Additional information: Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt. I've got a C#/java background, and I'm lost... Any help would be much appreciated.

  • try-catch in JavaScript : how to get stack trace or line number of the original error

    - by Greg Bala
When using TRY-CATCH in JavaScript, how to get the line number of the line that caused the error? On many browsers, the below code will work great and I will get the stack trace that points to the actual line that throw the exception. However, some browsers do not have "e.stack". Iphone's safari is one example. Is there someway to get the line number that will work for all browsers? try { // lots of code here var i = v.WillGenerateError; // how to get this line number in catch?? // lots of code here } catch (e) { alert (e.stack) // this will not work on iPhone, for example } Many thanks!

  • Why does adding permissions to an existing AppDomain have no effect?

    - by MainMa
Hi, I have a following code which behaves strangely in .NET 4.0: // AppDomain is created, and permissions which were added to `sandboxPermissions` are added successfully. sandboxAppDomain = AppDomain.CreateDomain("SandboxDomain", null, appDomainSetup, sandboxPermissions, new[] { commonStrongName }); // Trying to add a new permission to an AppDomain which is already created. sandboxAppDomain.PermissionSet.AddPermission(new FileIOPermission(FileIOPermissionAccess.AllAccess, @"C:\Some\Path\Here")); // Setting breakpoint to this line: `permissions` contains every permission which was added to `sandboxPermissions`, but no trace of C:\Some\Path\Here related permission. var permissions = sandboxAppDomain.PermissionSet.ToXml(); Every permission added before creating an AppDomain is just here, as expected. But adding permissions after an AppDomain is created has no effect at all. There are no exceptions thrown (nor first-chance ones). What can it be? If the framework method (AddPermission) fails to do what it was expected to do, mustn't it throw an exception?

  • Frameworks And 'traditional' coding

    - by YsoL8
Hello Sorry if this too open ended for this forum, but here goes. I mostly use languages such as PHP and Javascript without frameworks (e.g Jquery, Drupal, CakePHP). The only real exception to this for me, is Wordpress when 'traditional' coding is slower for building information sites. I've dabbled with several frameworks over the past year and despite everyone else's (seemingly) good experiences with them, I seem to of hit a roadblock. My basic problem is that for the amount of time invested in effectively relearning a language, I don't get a lot in return. Jqeury as an example. There is really very little in that, that I couldn't accomplish easily with a few getElement.. commands. So my question is, what advantages do frameworks offer over previous coding styles? Thanks from 2003 guy!

  • Android bluetooth socket error

    - by ashwini
I am using backport bluetooth api on android 1.6. I am using Google Bluetooth Chat sample app for testing. The app works fine in normal scenarios. In a scenario, when I try to connect to paired device which is in off state, I get following error. 01-04 09:00:11.629: ERROR/BluetoothEventLoop.cpp(84): onGetRemoteServiceChannelResult: D-Bus error: org.bluez.Error.ConnectionAttemptFailed (Host is down) 01-04 09:00:11.729: DEBUG/dalvikvm(128): GC freed 4535 objects / 256008 bytes in 296ms 01-04 09:00:21.880: ERROR/bluetooth_RfcommSocket.cpp(1433): connect error: Host is down (112) But it sets the state as connected. The app is unable to catch the exception. Why does it happen? Or is it the case with backport api? Any help is appreciated as I am struggling a lot to get things run fine.

  • Huge amount of time sending data with suds and proxy

    - by Roman
Hi everyone, I have the following code to send data through a proxy using suds: import suds t = suds.transport.http.HttpTransport() proxy = urllib2.ProxyHandler({'http': 'http://192.168.3.217:3128'}) opener = urllib2.build_opener(proxy) t.urlopener = opener ws = suds.client.Client('http://xxxxxxx/web.asmx?WSDL', transport=t) req = ws.factory.create('ActionRequest.request') req.SerialNumber = 'asdf' req.HostName = 'hola' res = ws.service.ActionRequest(req) I don't know why, but it can be sending data above 2 or 3 minutes, or even more and it raises a "Gateway timeout" exception sometimes. If I don't use the proxy, the amount of time used is above 2 seconds or less. Here is the SOAP reply: (ActionResponse){ Id = None Action = "Action.None" Objects = "" } The proxy is running right with other requests through urllib2, or using normal web browsers like firefox. Does anyone have any idea what's happening here with suds? Thanks a lot in advance!!!

  • Issue with maxWorkerThreads and thread count

    - by Kartik M
I have created an ASP.NET application which creates threads in an infinite loop. I set maxWorkerThreads to 20 in processModel in machine.config. When I checked the Thread count in perfmon there was around 7000 threads created in worker process. In PageLoad() I have: using System.Threading; ... int count = 0; var threadList = new System.Collections.Generic.List<System.Threading.Thread>(); try { while (true) { Thread newThread = new Thread(ThreadStart(DummyCall), 1024); newThread.Start(); threadList.Add(newThread); count++; } } catch (Exception ex) { Response.Write(count + " : " + ex.ToString()); } Function: void DummyCall() { System.Threading.Thread.Sleep(1000000000); } How do I restrict thread creation in ASP.NET with IIS6/7?

  • Why does my app crash when I add an row to the table view?

    - by mystify
I'm adding a row like this, when a button is pressed. It must be the very first row in the first section: NSIndexPath *indexPath = [NSIndexPath indexPathForRow:0 inSection:0]; [self insertRowsAtIndexPaths:[NSArray arrayWithObject:indexPath] withRowAnimation:UITableViewRowAnimationFade]; I don't call anything else here. No -reloadData. I keep getting this: * Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInternalInconsistencyException', reason: 'Invalid update: invalid number of rows in section 0. The number of rows contained in an existing section after the update (6) must be equal to the number of rows contained in that section before the update (6), plus or minus the number of rows inserted or deleted from that section (1 inserted, 0 deleted).'

  • ADO.NET parameters from TextBox

    - by Geo Ego
I'm trying to call a parameterized stored procedure from SQL Server 2005 in my C# Winforms app. I add the parameters from TextBoxeslike so (there are 88 of them): cmd.Parameters.Add("@CustomerName", SqlDbType.VarChar, 100).Value = CustomerName.Text; I get the following exception: "System.InvalidCastException: Failed to convert parameter value from a TextBox to a String. ---> System.InvalidCastException: Object must implement IConvertible." The line throwing the error is when I call the query: cmd.ExecuteNonQuery(); I also tried using the .ToString() method on the TextBoxes, which seemed pointless anyway, and threw the same error. Am I passing the parameters incorrectly?

  • Swapping UIImages causing 'unrecognized selector sent to instance' ?

    - by user158103
Error: [__NSCFDate drawAtPoint:]: unrecognized selector sent to instance 0xd251e0 Termininating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInvalidArgumentException' Scenario: for the most part this works. But I notice this error, even on the simulator, when I swapping UIImages, slowly, but consistently. For example, I have a retained reference to a UIImage that im drawing. By the click of a picker control I am changing the face image (this occurs in another view-controller). I can consistently recreate this error by continuously changing the faces. It usually crashes at about the 4th swap or more. My theory: It's not loading the image, therefore the image reference is nil. I know ive read a bit about UIImage being cached, so I wouldnt think im running out of memory. Any ideas? Thanks!

  • Using an extended interceptor in struts2 does not work w/ action parameters

    - by Ricardo
I have a default package w/ an interceptor configure, and i'm extending that package into another one and calling the same interceptor <action name="availability**"> <param name="subTab">availability</param> <interceptor-ref name="tabStack"/> <result>/WEB-INF/jsp/index.jsp?include=visibilit/availability.jsp</result> </action> The problem is that the param is not being read inside my interceptor code: Map params = invocation.getInvocationContext().getParameters(); subTab = params.get("subTab").toString(); //NULL exception Any idea how i can pass parameters to extended interceptors? Thanks!

  • How to Key-Value-Observe the rotation of a CALayer?

    - by HelloMoon
I can access the value like this: NSNumber* rotationZ = [myLayer valueForKeyPath:@"transform.rotation.z"]; But for some reason, if I try to KV-observe that key path, I get a compiler error. First, this is how I try to do it: [myLayer addObserver:self forKeyPath:@"transform.rotation.z" options:0 context:nil]; The compiler tells me: *** Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSUnknownKeyException', reason: '[ addObserver: forKeyPath:@"rotation.z" options:0x0 context:0x528890] was sent to an object that is not KVC-compliant for the "rotation" property.' what I don't get is, why I can access that z value by KVC key path, but not add an observer to it. Does this make sense? How else could I observe the z value of that matrix? I don't care about the other values of the matrix. Only the z rotation. Any other way to access and observe it?

  • EntityFramework .net 4 Update entity with a simple method

I was looking at this SO question: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1168215/ado-net-entity-framework-update-only-certian-properties-on-a-detached-entity. This was a big help for me. I know now that I need to attach an entity before making my changes to it. But how can do I do this: I have an MVC website, a Customer Update Page with fields: ID, Name, Address, etc. My MVC is parsing this into a Customer entity. How do I do the following: Update my entity and Save the changes to it. Catch the exception if my changes have been made since I loaded my entity.

  • Getting "Illegal Seek" error after calling accept()

    - by Bilthon
Well.. it's pretty much that, I seem to be getting a "Illegal Seek" error when checking my errno variable. The problem is that I have no idea of what that can mean. I know sockets are treated like files in unix, but I can't see how can this be related to sockets. What I'm doing exactly is: int sck = ::accept(m_socket, (struct sockaddr*)&client_address, (socklen_t*)&address_len); Then I get sck = -1 and errno = ESPIPE And the weird thing is that it happens randomly. I mean, sometimes the code works fine, and sometimes it just thows an exception. I'm working with threads so that's understandable. But I just would like to know what kind of behaviour makes the accept() call to set errno as ESPIPE so I could check the paramethers for instance. Thanks Nelson R. Pérez

  • Isn't fb_sig_friends supposed to be there?

    - by Seeker
According to the docs, Facebook is supposed to send both fb_sig_canvas_user and fb_sig_friends for a canvas application. Sadly, I only get fb_sig_canvas_user and NOT fb_sig_friends. Is there anything I have to do to get this parameter? Or is there any other way to retrieve the friends of the visiting (not-yet-authorized) user, without the need of a session key (API throws exception with message "Requires user session")? And yes, _fb_fromhash is present in the request (coming to the canvas app. from a user's application tab).

I have following code which fails with error 2000 ERROR_INVALID_PIXEL_FORMAT First definitions: [DllImport("user32.dll", CharSet = CharSet.Auto, SetLastError = true, ExactSpelling = true)] public static extern IntPtr GetDC(IntPtr hWnd); [StructLayout(LayoutKind.Sequential)] public struct PIXELFORMATDESCRIPTOR { public void Init() { nSize = (ushort) Marshal.SizeOf(typeof (PIXELFORMATDESCRIPTOR)); nVersion = 1; dwFlags = PFD_FLAGS.PFD_DRAW_TO_WINDOW | PFD_FLAGS.PFD_SUPPORT_OPENGL | PFD_FLAGS.PFD_DOUBLEBUFFER | PFD_FLAGS.PFD_SUPPORT_COMPOSITION; iPixelType = PFD_PIXEL_TYPE.PFD_TYPE_RGBA; cColorBits = 24; cRedBits = cRedShift = cGreenBits = cGreenShift = cBlueBits = cBlueShift = 0; cAlphaBits = cAlphaShift = 0; cAccumBits = cAccumRedBits = cAccumGreenBits = cAccumBlueBits = cAccumAlphaBits = 0; cDepthBits = 32; cStencilBits = cAuxBuffers = 0; iLayerType = PFD_LAYER_TYPES.PFD_MAIN_PLANE; bReserved = 0; dwLayerMask = dwVisibleMask = dwDamageMask = 0; } ushort nSize; ushort nVersion; PFD_FLAGS dwFlags; PFD_PIXEL_TYPE iPixelType; byte cColorBits; byte cRedBits; byte cRedShift; byte cGreenBits; byte cGreenShift; byte cBlueBits; byte cBlueShift; byte cAlphaBits; byte cAlphaShift; byte cAccumBits; byte cAccumRedBits; byte cAccumGreenBits; byte cAccumBlueBits; byte cAccumAlphaBits; byte cDepthBits; byte cStencilBits; byte cAuxBuffers; PFD_LAYER_TYPES iLayerType; byte bReserved; uint dwLayerMask; uint dwVisibleMask; uint dwDamageMask; } [Flags] public enum PFD_FLAGS : uint { PFD_DOUBLEBUFFER = 0x00000001, PFD_STEREO = 0x00000002, PFD_DRAW_TO_WINDOW = 0x00000004, PFD_DRAW_TO_BITMAP = 0x00000008, PFD_SUPPORT_GDI = 0x00000010, PFD_SUPPORT_OPENGL = 0x00000020, PFD_GENERIC_FORMAT = 0x00000040, PFD_NEED_PALETTE = 0x00000080, PFD_NEED_SYSTEM_PALETTE = 0x00000100, PFD_SWAP_EXCHANGE = 0x00000200, PFD_SWAP_COPY = 0x00000400, PFD_SWAP_LAYER_BUFFERS = 0x00000800, PFD_GENERIC_ACCELERATED = 0x00001000, PFD_SUPPORT_DIRECTDRAW = 0x00002000, PFD_DIRECT3D_ACCELERATED = 0x00004000, PFD_SUPPORT_COMPOSITION = 0x00008000, PFD_DEPTH_DONTCARE = 0x20000000, PFD_DOUBLEBUFFER_DONTCARE = 0x40000000, PFD_STEREO_DONTCARE = 0x80000000 } public enum PFD_LAYER_TYPES : byte { PFD_MAIN_PLANE = 0, PFD_OVERLAY_PLANE = 1, PFD_UNDERLAY_PLANE = 255 } public enum PFD_PIXEL_TYPE : byte { PFD_TYPE_RGBA = 0, PFD_TYPE_COLORINDEX = 1 } [DllImport("gdi32.dll", CharSet = CharSet.Auto, SetLastError = true, ExactSpelling = true)] public static extern int ChoosePixelFormat(IntPtr hdc, [In] ref PIXELFORMATDESCRIPTOR ppfd); [DllImport("gdi32.dll", CharSet = CharSet.Auto, SetLastError = true, ExactSpelling = true)] public static extern bool SetPixelFormat(IntPtr hdc, int iPixelFormat, ref PIXELFORMATDESCRIPTOR ppfd); [DllImport("opengl32.dll", CharSet = CharSet.Auto, SetLastError = true, ExactSpelling = true)] public static extern IntPtr wglCreateContext(IntPtr hDC); And now the code that fails: IntPtr dc = Win.GetDC(hwnd); var pixelformatdescriptor = new GL.PIXELFORMATDESCRIPTOR(); pixelformatdescriptor.Init(); var pixelFormat = GL.ChoosePixelFormat(dc, ref pixelformatdescriptor); if(!GL.SetPixelFormat(dc, pixelFormat, ref pixelformatdescriptor)) throw new Win32Exception(Marshal.GetLastWin32Error()); IntPtr hglrc; if((hglrc = GL.wglCreateContext(dc)) == IntPtr.Zero) throw new Win32Exception(Marshal.GetLastWin32Error()); //<----- here I have exception the same code in managed C++ is working HDC dc = GetDC(hWnd); PIXELFORMATDESCRIPTOR pf; pf.nSize = sizeof(PIXELFORMATDESCRIPTOR); pf.nVersion = 1; pf.dwFlags = PFD_DRAW_TO_WINDOW | PFD_SUPPORT_OPENGL | PFD_DOUBLEBUFFER | PFD_SUPPORT_COMPOSITION; pf.cColorBits = 24; pf.cRedBits = pf.cRedShift = pf.cGreenBits = pf.cGreenShift = pf.cBlueBits = pf.cBlueShift = 0; pf.cAlphaBits = pf.cAlphaShift = 0; pf.cAccumBits = pf.cAccumRedBits = pf.cAccumGreenBits = pf.cAccumBlueBits = pf.cAccumAlphaBits = 0; pf.cDepthBits = 32; pf.cStencilBits = pf.cAuxBuffers = 0; pf.iLayerType = PFD_MAIN_PLANE; pf.bReserved = 0; pf.dwLayerMask = pf.dwVisibleMask = pf.dwDamageMask = 0; int ipf = ChoosePixelFormat(dc, &pf); SetPixelFormat(dc, ipf, &pf); HGLRC hglrc = wglCreateContext(dc); I've tried it on VIsta 64-bit with ATI graphic card and on Windows XP 32-bit with Nvidia with the same result in both cases. Also I want to mention that I don't want to use any already written framework for it. Can anyone show me where is the bug in C# code that is causing the exception?

  • Program skips code after trying to parse XML in VB.NET

    - by Bead
I'm trying to parse some XML (html) I downloaded using WebRequest.Create() and then read it. However after loading the XML file using LoadXml(string), anything else I execute doesn't work. Setting a breakpoint on anything afterwards doesn't work and it doesn't break. I tried catching exception but none are occurring, so I'm not sure what the problem is. Here is my code: Dim reader As StreamReader = New StreamReader(HTTPResponse.GetResponseStream()) Dim xDoc As XmlDocument = New XmlDocument() xDoc.LoadXml(reader.ReadToEnd()) Dim omfg As String = xDoc.ChildNodes().Item(0).InnerText() Dim name As XmlNodeList = xDoc.GetElementsByTagName("div") Dim jj As Integer = name.Count For i As Integer = 0 To name.Count - 1 MessageBox.Show(name.Item(i).InnerText) Next i Anything after the "xDoc.LoadXml(reader.ReadToEnd())" doesn't execute.. Any ideas on this? My XML does have some whitespace at the beginning, I don't know if that is causing the problem...
