Can JQuery/JavaScript be used to write a substantial client side application?

I have an unusual situation - I have an embedded video streaming device with a complicated UI, and I need to use an embedded web server to reproduce that UI through a web browser. I'm thinking of using JavaScript/JQuery on a C++ backend (I am NOT coding all this myself, I need to hire people for the grunt work). The embedded web server is much less powerful than a PC, so I want to write an application that runs the entire UI in the browser, and only communicates with the server to pass new program settings back and forth, get status updates from the device, and control video playback. In other words, the client gets one big page or a small number of big pages (effectively downloading the application), the application maintains significant local memory storage, and once the pages are first loaded the server never sends anything layout-related. The application has two rows of tabs to navigate ~40 menu pages, drag-and-select controls to pick cells in a grid, sorted lists, lots of standard data entry options, and it should be able to control up to 16 embedded video players at once (preferably VLC). Is this possible in JavaScript/JQuery with a C++ backend?

Android Apps wont update.

Hello, i know that eclipse has a couple of glitches when it comes to updating your app and running it on the emulator, i have tried everything that i have found on the internet. Stopping the adb manually making a new emulator and starting it with "wipe user data" and restarting it even reinstalling all of the programs. What i have noticed is that it updates correctly until i start adding images to the drawable folder. After that it doesn't update at all. Can anybody help me its really frustrating also the pictures show up on the "graphic layout how they are suppose to it just doesn't update.

Macro to create macros?

Over the years, I've built up a number of macros that I like to have available in visual studio. It's always a pain to reload them and rebind them to the keyboard when I go to a different machine/rebuild/use a VM/etc. Someone mentioned to me once that there is a way that you can write a macro that will recreate your macros and bind them to keys automatically. Anyone know how to do that? Is there another way to easily export/import macros (nonsensically, VS has an "export macro" function, but no import).

Google Chrome window.open height includes URL bar

When we open a window using: window.open("/calendar",'calendar','width=950,height=576,titlebar=no,statusbar=no,menubar=no,resizable=no,scrollbars=no'); Firefox 3 and IE 7 open it to have a content area height of 576 plus the browser items (URL bar, status bar, etc). Chrome however opens it to have a total height of 576 meaning a scrollbar appears to the right of the content (and then the bottom because the width is now reduced). How can I get around this? It's for a heavy layout part of a web app so it's not just a matter of "let the user scroll", the client doesn't want that. Has anyone come across this? I don't mind browser sniffing and opening the window bigger, but I know that's yucky these days.

iPhone SDK: Keep an image from scrolling with a UIScrollView

Hi, I've been searching all over for an easy way to do this. Right now I have a UIScrollView setup as my main view. There's an Image on the left and a column of TextFields on the right. When any TextField is tapped, the keyboard comes up and hides the bottom TextField. So I have the ScrollView move up to unhide the bottom TextField. Question #1: Is there a way to have it respond to a specific TextField instead of all of them? Question #2: Is there a way to keep the Image on the left static so it doesn't move with the TextFields? Basic CSS: having unordered list extend beyond container div?

Hi. It's been a bit since I've gotten really into CSS work, I'm trying to make a simple layout with a menubar. The idea is to have a container holding everything in the center of the screen and have a menubar (unordered inline list) that runs the full length of the screen but the list items to be contained in the container. See this pic for a visual example ps. I know this isn't true "programming", but this seemed like the most appropriate place to post this question. Let me know if there's a better /r/ for this to go.

hide XML element from appearing in browser

HI, I have a website which I am setting up. However, I want the first page (Home) not to have any sub menu. When I change the value of true to false all the other pages where I want the drop down to appear also disappear. I want other pages to have sub menu but not the home page. I have tried to change the xml path etc, but nothing seems to work. Can somebody please advise on this. I am new to xml and finding this very challenging. I have uploaded the config.xml and the layout xml's. Zoom controls not showing when using a MapView with fill_parent

Hey everyone I am working on an applications and I am using the built in zoom controls. When using a specific size I can see the zoom controls. When using fill_parent the zoom controls are not visible. How it is setup is a mapview inside of a frame layout(also using fill parent for the height and width but with an offset down the screen. The only thing I can think of is the fill parent issue is with the framelayout and the zoom controls are off the screen. Sorry if this is confusing, I confused myself writing it. Thanks in advance

ANy way to fix the position of image

I have an image on the left hand side and text on right side. Like two column layout. I want that when i scroll the text then the image should stay at center of page. I tried using position:fixed But then the problem , sometimes when i resize the IE window to small size then the image stay at same position and it comes out of the main content area when i scroll down. Show elipses where text will be truncated as per iTunes

I a building an application with a similar layout to iTunes i.e. it has a sidebar that doubles as a menu. Some of the text will exceed the boundary and rather that having it be truncated I would like to show ellipses (see line image below "Purchased on My iPh..."). How would I go about this in WPF? Suppose I made the boundary movable i.e. user can change the size of the panel (split panel in Windows Forms), how would I go about dynamically showing the ellipses/text? Thanks in advance, B

facelet - nested <ui:insert>

I have multiple templates which differs with each other only by few containers. The most complex one contains superset of all containers used in all other one thus to avoid creating multiple templates I created the most complex one in following format some layout stuff (div and all) defining nested insert for each container and content. Now in client template based on what is needed I turn off container which is not needed as else if container is needed, just define content as doSomething Please let me know if you guys see any issues with this approach, any potential problem or alternate approach for similar scenario. thanks a lot. Eclipse plugin to measure programmer performance/stats

Does anyone know of an Eclipse plugin that can give me some stats about my behavior/usage of the Eclipse IDE? There are quite a few things I would like to know: How often/when do I invoke the "Build All" command (through Ctrl+B) How often does compilation fail/succeed (+ number of errors/warnings) How often do I hit Backspace? (I do that way to often; If pressing that key would give a nasty sound I would in time learn to type correctly in the first place) How many characters/lines of code that I typed do I delete (possibly quite immediately) How (effective/efficient/...) is my Mouse/Keyboard/IDE usage? (Kinda like measuring APM in StarCraft; this could be fun) If there is no such Eclipse plugin around, how complex and time consuming would It be to write a plugin that can accomplish the above?

Radio Button wont work in internet explorer but works fine in firefox

jquery: nested tags and hover() not working in IE

hello folks! i have a construction like this: <div id="container"> <span> <span></span> </span> <span> <span></span> </span> </div> i need to catch the mouseout event of the container, so i made jquery do this: $("#container").hover('',function(){ alert("Out"); }); In Firefox / Opera, it only fires the mouseout-function when leaving the div (how I want it). In IE it fires the mouseout-function at every -Tag inside of the div the mouse hits. (maybe important is, that the span tags have also mouseover and out events) Anyone has an idea how to solve this? (The nested structure cant be changed because a complex layout) thx4 any ideas!

How to get data from dynamically created EditText views and insert it into an array?

So basically what I need my program to do at this point is that when I click the submit button, I need to loop through each dynamic row of the ListView and grab the value in the EditText view and then insert that into an array which I will do further calculations after. Delete page permenetly

Hi I deleted sharepoint page which is based on page layout through browser by going siteactions--managing content and structure-- pages-- selected the page-- delete(by right clicking). But when I see in the content database still the page is there. Basically I want to delete the content type which I could nt delete as it is being used by a page. Change Text on Landscape mode with Java Code and not XML (Android)

I wrote my layout entirely in java code because it was just more convenient. (I had a lot of textViews and using for statements were more convenient). However, my TextViews require the day of the week and in portrait mode, I would like to cut the day of the week to a short form. For example, I want "Sunday" to show "Sun" for portrait mode, but "Sunday" for landscape mode. I understand how to do this in XML files, but how do I do it in code? Mapview on tablet: How can I center the map with an offset?

Hint: Here is a similar post with HTML. In the current tablet implementation of my app, I have a fullscreen MapView with some informations displayed in a RelativeLayout on a left panel, like this: (My layout is quite trivial, and I guess there is no need to post it for readability) The problem comes when I want to center the map on a specific point... If I use this code: mapController.setCenter(point); I will of course get the point in the center of the screen and not in the center of the empty area. I have really no idea where I could start to turn the offset of the left panel into map coordinates... Thanks a lot for any help or suggestion

Carousel stopped working
