  • Rails: Accessing previous loop in Populator (rake db:populate)

    - by sscirrus
    I am populating my Rails database using populator, and I have a case where I would like to build a series of records where fields start_date and end_date follow seamlessly from each other (from today back into the past). Here is a sample of what I'm doing: Chain.populate 1 do |ch| ch.date_end = DateTime.now ch.date_start = DateTime.civil(DateTime.now.year-rand(40)-1, rand(12)+1, rand(31)+1) end Chain.populate 0..10 do |chs| chs.date_end = Chain.find(:last).date_start chs.date_start = DateTime.civil(chs.date_end.year-rand(10)-1, rand(12)+1, rand(31)+1) end Problem? undefined method 'date_start' for nil:NilClass. I assume the problem is the first Chain record hasn't been saved, so I added: Chain.save # in between the two loops This didn't work either. How can I make this work? Thank you!

  • Rails: Auto-Detecting Database Adapter

    - by Dex
    The new version of the ar-extensions gem requires that you load the appropriate adapter yourself. On my development side I use mysql, however Heroku uses PostgreSQL. For example, on my development side I need to do this: require 'ar-extensions/adapters/mysql' require 'ar-extensions/import/mysql' How can I audo-detect which adapter to use?

  • jquery onclick function not firing with rails link_to_remote

    - by RahTha
    In the js file of the page, inside $(document).ready(function() {} i have $(".school a").live("click", function (e){ e.preventDefault(); ....; jsFunc(param1, param2, param3); }); Now the div with the class school has tags generated by rails link_to_remote with :url, :action, :before, :html. On clicking on this link it does all that it should do with regards to link_to_remote, but somehow the onclick event in the document.ready does not attach to it. Why would this be happening? The jsFunc all it does is post to a url async-ly, i figured out that stuffing that post url in the :before of the link_to_remote would work - but is there a more elegant way of just being able to use the attach functionality

  • Rails development environment Resque.enqueue does not create jobs

    - by anton evangelatov
    I am having the same problem like Rails custom environment Resque.enqueue does not create jobs , but the solution there doesn't work for me. I'm using Resque for a couple of asynchronous jobs. It works just fine for the staging environment, but for some reason it stopped working on development environment. For example, if I run the following: $ rails c development > Resque.enqueue(MyLovelyJob, 1) Nothing is enqueued. I check Resque using resque-web If I run it on staging - it works just fine. $ rails c staging > Resque.enqueue(MyLovelyJob, 1) I have tried to duplicate the 2 environment, and they seem to use absolutely the same configurations (database.yml , config/environment , etc.), but development is still not working. If I do > Resque.enqueue(UpdateInstancesData, 2) > => true > Resque.info > => { > :pending => 0, > :processed => 0, > :queues => 0, > :workers => 1, > :working => 0, > :failed => 0, > :servers => [ > [0] "redis://127.0.0.1:6379/0" > ], > :environment => "development" > } Any suggestions where to look in order to debug this? I am running the application via foreman. My Procfile looks like: faye: rackup faye.ru -s thin -E production worker1: bundle exec rake resque:work QUEUE=* VERBOSE=1 worker2: bundle exec rake resque:work QUEUE=* VERBOSE=1 clock: bundle exec rake resque:scheduler VERBOSE=1 web: bundle exec rails s For staging, as mentioned, everything works and the log from foreman is: 17:03:42 clock.1 | 2013-06-26 17:03:42 Reloading Schedule 17:03:42 clock.1 | 2013-06-26 17:03:42 Loading Schedule 17:03:42 clock.1 | 2013-06-26 17:03:42 Scheduling logging_test 17:03:42 clock.1 | 2013-06-26 17:03:42 Schedules Loaded 17:03:43 worker2.1 | *** Starting worker ttttt-mbp.local:69573:* 17:03:43 worker2.1 | *** Registered signals 17:03:43 worker2.1 | *** Running before_first_fork hooks 17:03:43 worker1.1 | *** Starting worker ttttt-mbp.local:69572:* 17:03:43 worker1.1 | *** Registered signals 17:03:43 worker2.1 | *** Checking another_queue 17:03:43 worker2.1 | *** Checking anotherqueue 17:03:43 worker2.1 | *** Checking statused 17:03:43 worker2.1 | *** Found job on statused 17:03:43 worker2.1 | *** got: (Job{statused} | LoggingTest | ["57e89a1c1b24ce6866bcf5d0e1c07f01", {}]) 17:06:30 clock.1 | 2013-06-26 17:06:30 queueing LoggingTest (logging_test) 17:06:33 worker1.1 | *** Checking another_queue 17:06:33 worker2.1 | *** Checking another_queue 17:06:33 worker1.1 | *** Checking anotherqueue 17:06:33 worker2.1 | *** Checking anotherqueue 17:06:33 worker1.1 | *** Found job on anotherqueue 17:06:33 worker1.1 | *** got: (Job{anotherqueue} | LoggingTest | ["0d976869a945766e0cfeca83e7349305", {}]) 17:06:33 worker1.1 | *** resque-1.24.1: Processing anotherqueue since 1372259193 [LoggingTest] 17:06:33 worker1.1 | *** Running before_fork hooks with [(Job{anotherqueue} | LoggingTest | ["0d976869a945766e0cfeca83e7349305", {}])] 17:06:33 worker1.1 | *** resque-1.24.1: Forked 69955 at 1372259193 17:06:33 worker2.1 | *** resque-1.24.1: Forked 69956 at 1372259193 17:06:33 worker1.1 | *** Running after_fork hooks with [(Job{anotherqueue} | LoggingTest | ["0d976869a945766e0cfeca83e7349305", {}])] 17:06:33 worker1.1 | JOB :: LoggingTest 17:06:33 worker1.1 | 55555 17:06:33 worker1.1 | *** done: (Job{anotherqueue} | LoggingTest | ["0d976869a945766e0cfeca83e7349305", {}]) whereas for development it doesn't seem to enqueue and then find the job.   • Why does Rails screw up timezones when I am editing a resource?

    - by DJTripleThreat
    Steps to produce this: prompt>rails test_app prompt>cd test_app prompt>script/generate scaffold date_test my_date:datetime prompt>rake db:migrate now edit your app/views/date_tests/edit.html.erb: <h1>Editing date_test</h1> <% form_for(@date_test) do |f| %> <%= f.error_messages %> <p> RIGHT!<br/> <%= text_field_tag @date_test, f.object.my_date %> </p> <p> WRONG!<br /> <%= f.text_field :my_date %> </p> <p> <%= f.submit 'Update' %> </p> <% end %> <%= link_to 'Show', @date_test %> | <%= link_to 'Back', date_tests_path %> now edit your config/environment.rb: #add this config.time_zone = 'Central Time (US & Canada)' This recreates the problem I am having in my actual app. The problem with my app is that I'm storing a date in a hidden field and rendering a "user friendly" version. Creating a resource works fine but as soon as I try to edit it the time changes (it adds the difference between my current time zone configuration and UTC). go to http://localhost:3000/date_tests/new and save the time then go to reedit it and you will have two different representations of the date/time one which will save incorrectly and the other that will.

  • Authlogic::ControllerAdapters::RailsAdapter::AuthlogicLoadedTooLateError

    - by chs
    Authlogic is trying to prepend a before_filter in ActionController::Base to active itself, the problem is that ApplicationController has already been loaded meaning the before_filter won't get copied into your application. Generally this is due to another gem or plugin requiring your ApplicationController prematurely, such as the resource_controller plugin. The solution is to require Authlogic before these other gems / plugins. Please require authlogic first to get rid of this error. (Authlogic::ControllerAdapters::RailsAdapter::AuthlogicLoadedTooLateError) I had installed radiant 0.9.rc2, extension reader and required gem Authologic So while running script/server on ubuntu 9.04 i am receiving the above error Any Suggestion, Thanx in advance

  • Resque: Slow worker startup and Forking

    - by David John
    I'm currently moving my application from a Linode setup to EC2. Redis is currently installed on a remote instance with various worker instances interacting with the queue. Thats all going fantastic. My problem is with the amount of time it takes for a worker to be 'instantiated' and slow forking. Starting a worker will usually take between 30 seconds and a minute(from god.rb starting the worker rake task and the worker actively starting work on the queue). I could live with that, but I've not experienced such a wait time on my current Linode production box so I believe its one of my symptoms to a bigger problem. Next issue is that jobs that took a second or less in my previous environment now seem to take about 5 to 10 times longer.. I'm assuming this must be some sort of issue with my Ubuntu install on EC2? One notable difference is that I'm running REE 1.8.7-2010.01 in my new setup, and REE 1.8.6 on the old Linode boxes. Anyone else experienced these issues?

  • How to implement a tagging plugin for jQuery

    - by anxiety
    Goal: To implement a jQuery plugin for my rails app (or write one myself, if necessary) that creates a "box" around text after a delimiter is typed. Example: With tagging on SO, the user begins typing a tag, then selects one from the drop-down list provided. The input field recognizes that a tag has been selected, puts a space and then is ready for the next tag. Similarly, I am attempting to use this plugin to put a box around the previously entered tag before moving to to accept the next tag/input. The instructions in the README.txt seem simple enough, however I have been receiving a $(".tagbox").tagbox is not a function error when debugging my app with firebug. Here is what I have in my application.js: $(document).ready( function(){ $('.tagbox').tagbox({ separator: /\[,]/, // specifying comma separation for <code>tags</code> }); }); And here is my _form.html.erb: <% form_for @tag do |f| %> <%= f.error_messages %> <p> <%= f.label :name %><br /> <%= text_field :tag, :name, { :method => :get, :class => "tagbox" } %> </p> <p><%= f.submit "Submit" %></p> <% end %> I have omitted some other code (namely the implementation of an autocomplete plugin) existing within my _form.html.erb and application.js for sake of readability. The inclusion or exclusion of this omitted code does not affect the performance of this plugin. I have included all of the necessary files for the tagbox plugin (as well as application.js after all other included JS files) within the javascript_include_tag in my application.html.erb file. I'm pretty much confused as to why I'd be getting this "not a function" error when jquery.tagbox.js clearly defines the function and is included in the head of my html page in question. I've been struggling with this plugin for longer than I'd like to admit, so any help would really be appreciated. And, of course, I'm open to any other plugins or from-scratch suggestions you may have in mind.. This tagbox plugin does not seem to have a wealth of documentation or any currently working examples. Also to note, I'm trying to avoid using jrails. Thanks for your time

  • Devise authenticating with username instead of email

    - by teknull
    I'm new to Devise and have it working fine by using an email address as the authentication key. However, I have a use case which requires a username instead and I can't seem to get it working. I've added a string column, "username" to the users table, changed the fields from :email to :username in the sign-in form, and have changed the authentication key in devise.rb to :username yet when I go to sign in I'm met with this prompt: "Please enter an email address". What am I doing wrong? **new.html.erb** <div><%= f.label :username %><br /> <%= f.email_field :username %></div> **User.rb** class User < ActiveRecord::Base # Include default devise modules. Others available are: # :token_authenticatable, :encryptable, :confirmable, :lockable, :timeoutable and :omniauthable devise :database_authenticatable, :registerable, :recoverable, :rememberable, :trackable, :validatable, :authentication_keys => [:username] # Setup accessible (or protected) attributes for your model attr_accessible :email, :password, :password_confirmation, :remember_me, :username # attr_accessible :title, :body end **devise.rb** config.authentication_keys = [ :username ]

  • routing problem with startpage in rails3

    - by DannyRe
    Hey, I deleted the Index.html in my /public/ folder. I added a "application" folder in my views. In it I put a new index.html.erb. This I want to be my startpage/homepage. In my new "index.html.erb" I set: link_to 'sign in', {:controller => 'devise/sessions', :action => 'new'} But it redirects me to the "application#index". I set root :to => "application#index How can I set this to route it to "posts#index" after I sign in, for example? Is there a chance to use .erb oder .haml in my /public/index.html? Many thanks!!

  • Array::include? on ActiveRecord collection not calling op== ?

    - by tribalvibes
    Given a collection of named Foos from ActiveRecord, why does Array.include? not seem to call Foo.== but yet index does? class Foo < ActiveRecord::Base def ==(s) self.name == s end end class Bar < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :foos end bar.foos << Foo.new( :name = 'hmm' ) bar.foos.all.include?('hmm') # does select all from db every time = true bar.foos.include?('hmm') # does not go to db, but does not find the Foo! = false bar.foos.index('hmm') # does not go to db, but does find the Foo[0] ! = 0 bar.foos.index('eh') # no such object = nil I understand shallow about the proxies, but (without a detour into the AR source) why is index seemingly behaving correctly but include? is not !? Is this a bug in the proxy behavior, and/or is this behavior documented somewhere ? Thanks.

  • Is there a way to make the flash[:notice] appear above, or before, the flash[:error] ?

    - by GoodGets
    So, I'd like to be able to display both a flash[:notice] and a flash[:error] on the same action, but I'd like for the :notice to always be displayed above (or before) the error. Is there a way to do this? In my controller, I thought I could just code the flash[:error] before the flash[:notice], so that rails will display it correctly, and it does a vast majority of the time. But every now and then they are randomly switched, and I can't seem to figure out why. So, how can I ensure that a flash[:notice] is always displayed above an :error ?

  • Nokogiri changing custom elements

    - by dagda1
    Hi, I have sample html that I have marked up with some special tags that will be used by a different program, an example of the html is below. You should note the <START:organization>..<END> elements. <html> <head/> <body> <ul> <li> <START:organization> Advanced Integrated Pest Management <END> </li> <li> <START:organization> American Bakers Association <END> </li> </ul> </body> </html> I wanted to use nokogiri to preprocess the html to easily remove irrelevant tags like <script>. I created the following extension to the nokogiri document class: module Nokogiri module HTML class Document def prepare_html xpath("//script").remove to_html.remove_new_lines end end end end The problem is that nokogiri is changing the <START:organization> element to <organization>. Is there anyway that I can preserve the htnl to maintain my custom markup tags? Thanks Paul

  • Adding defaults and indexes to a script/generate command in a Rails Template?

    - by charliepark
    I'm trying to set up a Rails Template that would allow for comprehensive set-up of a specific Rails app. Using Pratik Naik's overview (http://m.onkey.org/2008/12/4/rails-templates), I was able to set up a couple of scaffolds and models, with a line that looks something like this ... generate("scaffold", "post", "title:string", "body:string") I'm now trying to add in Delayed Jobs, which normally has a migration file that looks like this: create_table :delayed_jobs, :force => true do |table| table.integer :priority, :default => 0 # Allows some jobs to jump to the front of the queue table.integer :attempts, :default => 0 # Provides for retries, but still fail eventually. table.text :handler # YAML-encoded string of the object that will do work table.text :last_error # reason for last failure (See Note below) table.datetime :run_at # When to run. Could be Time.now for immediately, or sometime in the future. table.datetime :locked_at # Set when a client is working on this object table.datetime :failed_at # Set when all retries have failed (actually, by default, the record is deleted instead) table.string :locked_by # Who is working on this object (if locked) table.timestamps end So, what I'm trying to do with the Rails template, is to add in that :default = 0 into the master template file. I know that the rest of the template's command should look like this: generate("migration", "createDelayedJobs", "priority:integer", "attempts:integer", "handler:text", "last_error:text", "run_at:datetime", "locked_at:datetime", "failed_at:datetime", "locked_by:string") Where would I put (or, rather, what is the syntax to add) the :default values in that? And if I wanted to add an index, what's the best way to do that?

  • Rails (pagination and tags)

What I found on this problem is this: http://www.mckinneystation.com/2007/08/20/pagination-with-acts_as_taggable_on_steroids-acts_as_ferret-and-will_paginate/ But it's dated of 2007, may be there's something more recent? And also could you explain in details what should I do to make that fix work?

  • Rails: Rendered JS file doesn't execute using UJS

    - by Hassinus
    I would like to display a Rails edit form using JS instead of redirecting with HTML. To do this, I use UJS for the edit link: <%= link_to "Edit user info", edit_user_path(1), :remote => true %> Then, the "edit" action of User controller is like this (simplified version): controllers/users_controller.rb: def edit # Step 1: Get the edit HTML form @html = render_to_string(:template => "users/edit.html") # Step 2: Use JS to display the form in the correct place render "users/edit.js" end As you may guess, I have two views: The html version of "edit" action which contains the form in HTML format. Let's consider a test version: views/users/edit.html.erb: <h1>This is just a test</h1> The js version that will display the form in the correct place, using jQuery for example. Again, for test purpose, let's just popup the html text: views/users/edit.js.erb: alert("<%= @html %>"); The problem is that nothing is executed (no popup) Using the inspector (from Chrome web browser), I get the response as text format: alert("<h1>This is just a test</h1>"); Do you have any idea? Why do the rendered JS is not executed? Thanks in advance.

  • Precompile assets for a rails engine

    - by Peter Ehrlich
    In a standard app, I have this line in my production.rb, which creates endpoints for non-default precompiled assets: config.assets.precompile += %w( mobile.css ) My rails engine is a standard Sinatra app. It has its own assets. When on development, these assets are served fine, presumably the web requests are handled by rails and sprockets. On production I'm getting 404s on the assets, and think I have to manually tell sprockets to provide the files. How can this be done without tightly linking? It isin't evident how to set up env-specific initializers for engines. Is this done? Not only, for example, is config/development.rb within the engine not loaded, but there's no way to get the application class itself without knowing its name, in order to modify configuration. And even if there was, it seems that having any engine able to reconfigure the main app would be very bad idea. So maybe its better to let assets handling be done by sinatra itself? Or another instance of sprockets for the engine? How do other engines handle this?

  • Help getting ActiveScaffold to work properly

    - by x3ro
    Hey there I was curious about the ActiveScaffold Rails plugin, but somehow I can't get it to work properly. I've followed the steps which are described on http://activescaffold.com/tutorials/ . The table and everything shows up and when I click on "Create new", the dialog pops up. However, when I fill out the form and click "Create", I just get "500 Internal server error". In the server log, it says "NameError (wrong constant name ###):", with ### being what I entered in the first form field. If I don't enter anything in the form, it says "NoMethodError (undefined method `new_record?' for #):"... So what am I doing wrong here? Thanks in advance for your help :)

  • Active Record like functionality on array instance variable

    - by rube_noob
    I would like to write a module that provides active record like functionality on an array instance variable. Examples of its use would be x = Container.new x.include(ContainerModule) x.elements << Element.new x.elements.find id module ContainerModule def initialize(*args) @elements = [] class << @elements def <<(element) #do something with the Container... super(element) end def find(id) #find an element using the Container's id self #=> #<Array..> but I need #<Container..> end end super(*args) end end The problem is that I need the Container object within these methods. Any reference to self will return the Array, not the Container object. Is there any way to do this? Thanks!
