  • Is it possible to have variable find conditions for both the key and value?

    I'm trying to pass in both the field and the value in a find call: @employee = Employee.find(:all, :conditions => [ '? = ?', params[:key], params[:value].to_i) The output is SELECT * FROM `employees` WHERE ('is_manager' = 1) Which returns no results, however when I try this directly in mysqsl using the same call without the '' around is_manager, it works fine. How do I convert my params[:key] value to a symbol so that the resulting SQL call looks like: SELECT * FROM `employees` WHERE (is_manager = 1) Thanks, D

  • Problems to make programming more interesting for school students [closed]

    I have to teach Java programming to school students and all are around the age of 15. None of them had any previous experience in programming. That is, I have to start from the very basics. I do like to make the sessions more interesting, and to make them love programming. I do need simple problems or puzzles -- not complex ones, simple ones -- that can increase their curiosity, and made them think and love programming. I do like to have problems for all of the concepts (like branching, looping, encapsulation, inheritance, composition, etc.,). Notes: I do have a time-frame of 1 hour for each session. Computers are not available. Maybe I can bring my laptop and show a demo to them. There are 7 students in the class.

I have a node-node_type.tpl.php and ask it $node->content['field_custom_map_data']['#value'] That returns html, three nested div's and uses HTML entities, I want the pure text, as entered.     I mean, won;t it be more specific and appropriate if i "only" keep "protected","internal" and "private" members (field,method,property,event) in a class which is declared as "internal" ? I have seen this practice ( having "public" members in an "internal" class) in various code so just wanted to know is it a bad practice or does it has some benefit or advantage.     Created a UITextField for "Postal Code/ZIP" field with a keyboardType of UIKeyboardTypeDefault. I would like to use the default keyboard but want the numbers & symbols to be shown by default as apposed to letters. Apple does this when you are entering addresses in the Contacts.app. Anyone know how to get this accomplished?

    Using the autocomplete field for a cck nodereference always displays the node id as a cryptic bracketed extension: Page Title [nid:23] I understand that this ensures that selections are unique in case nodes have the same title, but obviously this is a nasty thing to expose to the user. Has anyone had any success in removing these brackets, or adding a different unique identifier?

    Hi, in C if I have a printf statement containing say "%.2f", it says that the precision is 2 digits after the decimal place. I haven't explicitly specify the width. I have two questions: Is this good programming practice?; Is without specifying the width means that the width of the field will get adjusted automatically when printing the number, irrespective of the number of digits it contains?
