For example I am looking to have an array of HEX values or RGB arrays and I want to find the most similar colour in the array for a given colour eg. I pass a function a RGB value and the 'closest' colour in the array is returned

    I've got an html template like this: <div class="cont"> <div class="..."> <p>...<p> <img alt="" class="popup" src="DESIRED IMAGE LINK" style="..." /></p><p>...</p> .... And i want to extract "DESIRED IMAGE LINK" inside the "" tag, currently i'm using this: $pattern = '<div class="cont">.*?src=["\']?([^"\']?.*?(png|jpg|jpeg|gif))["\']?/i'; if (preg_match($pattern, $content, $image)) ..... But it doesn't work, the error is: warning: preg_match() [function.preg-match]: Unknown modifier '.' How can i fix it? Thanks

    Hello, So I have a very simple class that has a method called getThumbUrl() but when I try calling this method on an instance I get Notice: Undefined property: FlickrImage::$getFullUrl But it is clearly there. Here is the code of the function: public function getThumbUrl() { return "http://farm".$this->_farm.".static.flickr.com/".$this->_server."/".$this->_id."_".$this->_secret."_t.jpg"; } And here is where it fails: foreach($photos as $photo) { echo "<img src='$photo->getFullUrl()' />"; } Any ideas?   • Can't figure out what's wrong with my php/sql statement

    So this is probably a dumb beginner question, but I've been looking at it and can't figure it out. A bit of background: just practicing making a web app, a form on page 1 takes in some values from the user, posts them to the next page which contains the code to connect to the DB and populate the relevant tables. I establish the DB connection successfully, here's the code that contains the query: $conn->query("SET NAMES 'utf9'"); $query_str = "INSERT INTO 'qa'.'users' ('id', 'user_name','password' ,'email' ,'dob' ,'sx') VALUES (NULL, $username, $password, $email, $dob, $sx);"; $result = @$conn->query($query_str); Here's the error that is returned:Insert query failed: You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near ''qa'.'users' ('id', 'user_name' ,'password' ,'email' ,'dob' ,'s' at line 1 Thanks in advance!

    I always see people in serious projects use :: everywhere, and - only occasionally in local environment. I only use - myself and never end up in situations when I need a static value outside of a class. Am I a bad person? As I understand, the only situation when -> won't work is when I try following: class StaticDemo { private static $static } $staticDemo = new StaticDemo( ); $staticDemo->static; // wrong $staticDemo::static; // right But am I missing out on some programming correctness when I don't call simple public methods by :: ? Or is it just so that I can call a method without creating an instance?

  • Best method to cache objects in PHP?

    Hi, I'm currently developing a large site that handles user registrations. A social networking website for argument's sake. However, I've noticed a lag in page loads and deciphered that it is the creation of objects on pages that's slowing things down. For example, I have a Member object, that when instantiated with an ID passed as a construct parameter, it queries the database for that members' row in the members database table. Not bad, but this is created each time a page is loaded; and called more than once when say, calling an array of that particular members' friends, as a new Member object is created for each friend. So on a single page I can have upwards of seven of the same object, but containing different properties. What I'm wanting to do is to find a way to reduce the database load, and to allow persist objects between page loads. For example, the logged in user's object to be created on login (which I can do) but then stored somewhere for retrieval so I don't have to keep re-creating the object between page loads. What is the best solution for this? I've had a look at Memcache, but with it being a third-party module I can't have the web host install it on this occasion. What are my alternatives, and/or best practices in my case? Thanks in advance.

    I have an Object ( [id] => 1 [parent_id] => 0 [result:Database:private] => [db:Database:private] => mysqli Object ( [affected_rows] => 0 ... ) ) Obviously, the Object has inherited the 'db' and 'result' properties of the parent Database class. unset($object-result) nor unset($object-result:Database) nor unset($object-result:Database:private) work. How could I unset those properties when they are no longer needed (i.e. when the object properties are about to be output)? Is it a generally a good idea to have a database object as an inherited property of other classes (extend one Database class with all other classes that use database connections)?

    I am trying to display the last 10 lines of a File and from there take those results and break them down to 10 individual lines.. Currently the code I have found from examples is: $filearray = file("test.txt"); $lastfifteenlines = array_slice($filearray,-10); echo implode($lastfifteenlines, "\n") It display's the 10 items I need however it does not break them down onto individual lines the current results are: 1.0.0.11 1.0.0.12 1.0.0.13 1.0.0.14 1.0.0.15 I need that to instead display as: 1.0.0.11 1.0.0.12 1.0.0.13 1.0.0.14 1.0.0.15 Thanks in Advance for the Asistance!

I guess I don't understand how variables work yet.

    I made this simple function (remove all $elem from $array): function remall($array, $elem) { for($i=0; $i < count($array); $i++) if($array[$i] == $elem) unset($array[$i]); $newarray = array_values($array); return $newarray; } But it isn't working perfectly, here are some inputs and outputs $u = array(1, 7, 2, 7, 3, 7, 4, 7, 5, 7, 6, 7); $r = remall($u, 7); Output of $r: 12345767 $n = array(7, 7, 1, 7, 3, 4, 6, 7, 2, 3, 1, -3, 10, 11, 7, 7, 7, 2, 7); $r = remall($n, 7); Output of $r: 1346231-30117727 Notice how there are still 7s in my outputs. Also, My function will only be removing numbers from an array. Let me know if you spot something, thanks.

  • PHP string enocding issue - Extra characters appearing

    I see extra characters like â showing because of encoding issues as I found out here - HTML encoding issues - "Â" character showing up instead of "&nbsp;" I understand that if I set the browser meta encoding to UTF-8, these will not affect anything but I need to strip these extra characters from the database for other purposes. For eg. : Text: ↑ should be become Text: ? But if I run it through utf8_decode it gives me Text: ??? For every other occurrence of the â character, it converts properly to a blank space. Any help will be appreciated.
