• SQL Server to manage ASP.NET sessions doesn't work

  I follow the direction in here How to configure SQL Server to manage ASP.NET sessions to create ASPState db. I have 2 web application in IIS 7. In IIS web application setting, i go to "Session State" and set session state as "SQL Server" and provide connection string. In each web application web.config, i add <sessionState mode="SQLServer" allowCustomSqlDatabase="false" sqlConnectionString="data source=server;user id=user;password=password" cookieless="false" timeout="7200" /> I create a session , Session["Data"] = "test" in Web App A and go to Web App B in the same browser to print it Response.Write(Session["Data"]); It shows NOTHING. I can see there are data in table : ASPStateTempApplications and ASPStateTempSessions under ASPState Database. Also, i dont see any error in event log. Can anyone think anything i may do wrong? I have an ArrayList of custom objects that have the following properties: FileName FilePath CurrentFolder TopLevelFolder I then need to do a BinarySearch (or some other quick search) on the FileName property on all the objects in the ArrayList in .NET. In other words, I need to find the object in the ArrayList with the same FileName as the one I'm searching on. Syntax for the ArrayList's BinarySearch is this; but how do you do this for an object's property in the arraylist? public static void FindMyObject( ArrayList myList, Object myObject ) { int myIndex=myList.BinarySearch( myObject ); if ( myIndex < 0 ) Console.WriteLine( "The object to search for ({0}) is not found. • Safe way to support hosting files from asp.net mvc site

  i have an asp.net-mvc site where users can add content and links and the data gets saved in a database. They now want the ability to upload attachments to pages and i wanted to figure out a few things: I have upload code that will upload files (pdfs, images, etc) but i wanted to see where i should be storing them. should i store them outside the website directory structure ? Is there any file types that i should be concerned with storing. I would basically have a file picker on the front end.

  Am looking for examples specific to .net/mvc and servers native WinServer08 where problem being addressed is processing a bounced smtp msg so as to bind to an estore transaction and updating account/profile properties. Reading the related questions i find an interesting reference to [VERP]2. Under the heading 'Software that supports VERP i find that IIS is not on the list. Does that mean i need to find a library to integrate into my store's assembly? What resources do I have to pull together to make sure that the webapp is informed when mail bounces? fwiw - i'm working with a very low volume site.

  I have forms in my page a get and a post and i want add pager on my get form .. so i cant page through the results.. The problem that i am having is when i move to the second page it does not display anything..   I am implementing a library where I am extensively using the .Net BitArray class and need an equivalent to the Java BitSet.Cardinality() method, i.e. a method which returns the number of bits set. I was thinking of implementing it as an extension method for the BitArray class. The trivial implementation is to iterate and count the bits set (like below), but I wanted a faster implementation as I would be performing thousands of set operations and counting the answer. Basically I am running up against the issue of collisions between controllers. What I want is to have urls like /public/portfolio, but also have /private/portfolio.   Hello, I'm looking for a solution that allows me to get the parent page pathname from a partialView invoked. For example I have an Action baa and a controller boo so the javascript to obtain this will be window.location.pathname, and it returns /boo/baa. The thing is that I use a partial view, so when I try to retrieve the pathname via the URL helper, what I obtain is the PartialView one, and what I need is the pathname for the action that invokes it. I want to do this because I want to show certain things of the partial view depending on the pathname of the parent view that invokes it. Is there a way to do this with ASP.NET MVC? And at another day when a new logfileDate created i want to mail the previous day Logfile and delete that file after sending. Everything happened but when It is going to delete its shows file is accessed by another process. So I need to refresh that folder after sending mail so that it got free with buffer. I'm not using IIS and i dont want it to use.

  Am I being blind, or does the .NET framework not provide any kind of ranged integer class? That is, a type that would prevent you setting a value outside some given bounds that are not the full range of the basic data type. For example, an integer type that would restrict its values to between 1 and 100. Showing my age here, but back in '93, I remember using that sort of thing in Modula-2 (eeek!), but I've not seen explicit framework / language support for it since. Am I just missing something, or is it a case of "it's so simple to make your own that the framework doesn't bother"? Cheers.

  I am creating 4 asp.net pages. first three pages have 'CONTINUE' button and last page has 'SUBMIT' button. I am not allowed to use Sessions to store first three pages data. and i need to use 'BACK' button on last three pages. when i click 'BACK' button i need to maintain the previous page data entered by user. As my pages do some postbacks, i cannot use javascript.history function. My restrictions are: As the application is served from a web farm, a session object cannot be used. However, for the purpose of this excersise, consider session object as database-like persistent space where you can store your data. your code should show an easy way to switch to a different persistent space. What is databse like persistent space and how to write a code to switch to different persistent space?... Please give me some idea on how to proceed.... Thank you

• How can I detect when the .NET Framework feature is "turned off" in Windows 7 / Vista?

  My application requires the .NET Framework version 3.5. I recently ran into a customer that had the .NET Framework installed but turned off on Windows Vista (also applies to Windows 7). In this case, my installer (InstallShield 2009) does not prompt the user to install the Framework (because it is already installed) and when my application runs it crashes immediately. I tried another .NET application and it also crashes immediately. Is there any way to detect this situation and handle it more gracefully? Just detecting this during install is not ideal since the .NET Framework can be turned off at any time. Ideally, the application would be able to check and display a friendly message to the user telling them they need to turn on the .NET Framework. EDIT: "Turning off" the .NET Framework in Windows Vista or Windows 7 is not the same as uninstalling it.   I'm converting a VB6 application into VB.Net and having trouble with the basics. I start off with:- Dim xl As Excel.Application Dim xlsheet As Excel.Worksheet Dim xlwbook As Excel.Workbook xl = New Excel.Application xlwbook = xl.Workbooks.Open(my_data.file_name) xlsheet = xlwbook.Sheets(1) but the last line doesn't compile; it reports Option Strict On disallows implicit conversion from 'Object' to 'Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.Worksheet' I can make this go away by replacing the line with xlsheet = CType(xlwbook.Sheets(1), Excel.Worksheet) but that does't look like the right thing to do to me. If the assignment is correct, I would have thought the object should naturally have the correct type. So: does anyone know what the correct thing I should be doing here?

I want the user to click the print button and automatically the document prints. • Where and how to store functions in asp.net.vb

  Hi. I am using visual studio 2008, asp.net.vb I have various functions; 1 that calculates totals, 1 that calculates averages, 1 that calculates percentages etc. The data they act upon is different depending on the particular web page, but all my pages use these functions. So I want to know how I can store these functions in a single place so that all of my web pages can access the routines. At the moment all I know how to do is to write seperate functions in the code-behind for each individual web page. Obviously that is just so long winded and inefficient, but try as I might I can't figure out how to do it better. Please can anyone help. Many thanks.

  After working with the .NET GDI+ Rectangle object, I've noticed that if I create a rectangle that is X:0 * Y:0 * Width:100 * Height:100, the Right and Bottom properties are set to 100, 100. Shouldn't this be 99, 99? 0 - 99 is 100 pixels. 0 - 100 is 101 pixels. FWIW, the documentation does say the right is computed by x + width and the bottom is y + height, but is that correct? Perhaps "correct" doesn't matter here as long it's consistent? All I know is that it is somewhat (read... very) annoying!

  In my winform app in VB.NET i want to use the localization option. But i have a few questions/problems. I'm using a menu strip to select an other language. But it seems that is doesn't change my menustip text to my selected language. It does change my labels, buttons, and textboxes but menu strips doesnt seem to change when i choose an other language. Also is it possible to get those resx files such as MyForm.fr-FR.resx compiled so it isn't an external file outside my app? Or to get those files in an Language folder at the same location of my app, so i don't have all those fr-FR, nl-Nl folders in the same location as my program.
