  • .NET 2d library for circuit diagrams

    - by Dinah
I want to draw and manipulate logic flow (as opposed to analog) circuit diagrams and I'm trying not to reinvent the wheel. Problems like positioning, line drawing, line crossing and connecting, path finding, rubberband lines, and drag & drop are also identical in flow charts, UML diagrams, or class diagrams so I started by viewing related topics via Google and Stack Overflow. However, the following requirements seemed to keep me from finding anything that quite fit: assuming a chip has an image with input and output stubs, the connecting lines would connect to the chip only in the exact spots of the I/O stubs the color of connecting lines are able to be set as per a chip's output Is there an existing .NET 2d graphics library that would be suitable for drawing circuit diagrams?

  • .NET Single Line Logging (ala Trace.Write/WriteLine) using Instrumentation.Logging

    - by KnownColor
Hello Everyone, My question is whether it is possible to get line/multiline (very unsure of correct term for this) behaviour of the Trace.Write and Trace.WriteLine methods but using the Microsoft Instrumentation Logging framework in .NET 2.0. Desired Output Hello World! Oh Hai. What I Currently Have Trace.Write("Hello "); Trace.WriteLine("World!"); Trace.Write("Oh Hai."); I would prefer to use instrumentation to log rather than writing to a log file using Debug.Trace. EDIT: By Instrumentation Logging I mean using a 'loggingConfiguration' block in my App.config and writing Log Entries using using Microsoft.Practices.EnterpriseLibrary.Logging.Logger.Write(LogEntry logEntry); Microsoft.Practices.EnterpriseLibrary.Logging.Configuration.FlatFileTraceListenerData, Microsoft.Practices.EnterpriseLibrary.Logging, Version=2.0.0.0 for example. • Dynamic data validation in ASP.NET MVC

    - by user252160
I've recently read about the model validation capabilities of ASP.NET MVC which are all very cool until a certain point. What happens if the application doesn't know the data that it works with because it is all stored in DB and built together at runtime. Just like in Drupal, I'd like to be able to define custom types at runtime, and assign runtime validation rules as well. Obviously, the idea of assigning attributes to well established models is now gone. What else could be done ? I am thinking in terms of rules being stored as JSON objects in the DB fields or something like that.

  • Reuse ASP.NET Control Multiple Times on Page

    - by macinjosh
I feel somewhat foolish asking such a simple question, but I can't seem to find an answer. I'm new to ASP.NET (C#), but I'm learning by building a simple set of web pages that display a report. I have a variable that represents a company name. I need to output this variable in multiple places on the web page. The only way I have found to output a variable this is with: company_name.Text = "Acme Windows"; then <asp:literal id="company_name" runat="server" /> My problem is that I want to use company_name in multiple places on the page. Do I really have to create a separate variable holding the the same value for each time it is placed on the page? If I just copy the above XML code to all the places I want to show the variable it obviously creates a compile error since that ID is already defined. I feel like I'm missing something very obvious.

  • Sharing Session between webservice and asp.net application

    - by Alex Mendez
I have an asp.net application and webservices (asmx) that reside in the same application but not in the same folder of the aspx files. I aslo have a winform application that uses the webservices. I have marked the webservice methods with [WebMethod(EnableSession = true)] but I am not able to share the same session values that are on the application in the webservices. The winform application has access to the sessionID from the application and I am using the following code Uri uri = new Uri(ServerServiceUrl); _cookieContainer = new CookieContainer(); _cookieContainer.Add(new Cookie("ASP.NET_SessionId", SessionID, "/", uri.Host)); My question is: Is there something that I am missing or doing wrong that I cannot access the application sessioin from the webservices?

  • Dynamically showing fields to a Dev Express Grid view on windows form

    - by Bhaskar
In one of windows application in C# , I am using Dev Express Grid view control to bind some data and display it to user. I have custom business objects with properties defined for this purpose. Then I simple set the DataSource of the grid to the list of my custom business objects. A while ago , there came a requirement which means that the columns to be displayed on to the grid will be dynamic. This means I cannot know at design time which fields I will need to display. I was thinking of abandoning setting the DataSource and populating the grid manually by code. But I think this will cause many of the grid's features not to work properly, for example , grouping the data by drag n drop of fields to the header area etc. Is there any way to tell a grid at runtime to skip certain fields from a list of BO's when databinding to the grid ?

  • Making of JSON Webservice using C# .NET

    - by Parth_90
I am trying to make JSON webservice in C# .NET. A json string is returning by web method but it contains xml structure like: <string xmlns="http://tempuri.org/"> {"checkrecord":[{"rollno":"abc2","percentage":40,"attended":12,"missed":34}],"Table1":[]} </string> I saw this article before it wasn't much helpful for me. So my problem is, that json string is not returned in its pure format. I do not want that xml version and xmlns string. I plan to consume the web service on Android later. Can anyone help me? Thanks

  • Embedded strongly-typed views with ASP.NET MVC

    - by Brian Vallelunga
I'm working on a plugin-type of system for ASP.NET MVC that loads views from an embedded assembly. I have created a VirtualPathProvider that does the work of retrieving out of the assembly. Everything is working fine except for strongly-typed views. Whenever I try to load one of those, I get an exception of: Could not load type 'System.Web.Mvc.ViewPage'. The problem is that there is no Web.config file under the Views folder. Well, actually there is, but the system doesn't seem to want to read the embedded version. If I manually create the file under the corresponding directory in the web app, everything is fine. This isn't an acceptable workaround however, as each plugin would need its own file in its own specific directory. Does anyone know how I might get ASP to read the embedded Web.config file? Thanks, Brian

  • Reporting framework for extending definition & execution to the end users (ASP.Net)

    - by Kabeer
Hello. My application is a product which will have reporting capabilities. The product, when in production, is expected to have several ad-hoc report defined by the end users. I am looking for a platform that can be tailored to harness the business entities and extend reporting capabilities (definition & execution) to the end user. Here are some constraints: From the usability standpoint, I like what MS Access reports offer. But of course it is not suitable for the target web application. However, it certainly is a source of inspiration usability wise. Cost is a constraint. So something recommended from open source world will be appreciated. Otherwise too I'd like to know. The product in question is somewhat 'generic' in nature. Mine is a ASP.Net platform.

  • Simple string encryption in .NET and Javascript

    - by jonathanconway
I'm developing an ASP.NET MVC application in which I want to encrypt a short string on the server, using C#, and send it to the client-side. Then on the client-side it will be decrypted through Javascript code. Any thoughts on how to implement this? Do you know of a simple encryption algorithm (doesn't have to be bullet-proof secure) that can be easily translated from C# to Javascript or vice-versa? NOTE: I could do this entirely in C# and do the decryption through Ajax, but I'd prefer not to do it this way, as I want to reduce website traffic as much as possible.

  • Most performant ASP.NET web controls suite

    - by DotNetter
Personally I've been working for years with Telerik's RadControls and DevExpress ASP.NET controls. IMHO they both produce quite a lot HTML overhead on the client side thus for that I've never been highly pleased with them. I also know about Infragistics, ComponentOne, ComponentArt, etc. How are these? I'd assume they are not much different than those I mentioned. Which (commercial) controls suite generates the most compact HTML on the client side? Do you have any recommendations?

  • Tips for optimizing C#/.NET programs

    - by Bob
It seems like optimization is a lost art these days. Wasn't there a time when all programmers squeezed every ounce of efficiency from their code? Often doing so while walking 5 miles in the snow? In the spirit of bringing back a lost art, what are some tips that you know of for simple (or perhaps complex) changes to optimize C#/.NET code? Since it's such a broad thing that depends on what one is trying to accomplish it'd help to provide context with your tip. For instance: When concatenating many strings together use StringBuilder instead. If you're only concatenating a handful of strings it's ok to use the + operator. Use string.Compare to compare 2 strings instead of doing something like string1.ToLower() == string2.ToLower()

  • connection string reading data from excel in asp.net

    - by Greg
Hello, I am trying to read data from excel file in asp.net. I have added the connection string to webConfig file: <add name="xls" connectionString="Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=HPM_DB.xls;Extended Properties=Excel 8.0"/> But it shows me an errormessage when I run this query: string query = "Select * from [IO_Definition$]"; IO_Definition is the name of the spreadsheet in my excel file. I also added the excel file to the App_Data folder of the website. The error is: The Microsoft Jet database engine could not find the object 'IO_Definition$'. Make sure the object exists and that you spell its name and the path name correctly. The thing is, when I write the absolute path of the excel file in the connectionString it does work. Is there anyway I can make it work without writing the absolute path? Thanks, Greg

  • .Net C#: support differnt Office versions

    - by Chris
We created an application that uses Office 2007 (Excel 2007) to read in data from an Excel worksheet. However. I noticed that when I want to deploy the application on a system with Office 2003 installed, it crashes because other PIA's (and other dll's) need to be referenced for this version of office. Do I need to compile different versions of my application to be able to support different versions of Office or is there a more ellegant solution for this problem? I use Visual Studio 2010 (C#) and the .Net 4.0 platform. Many thanks Chris

  • ASP.net Literal or Page altering HTML string, causing formatting issues

    - by Jon
We have a service that generates a report (using word templates and a 3rd party library), and then returns a string in HTML. While this HTML isn't great - its formatted correctly in this string. We want this HTML to show up on a page - format intact. What we currently have done is set an ASP.net Literal's text element to this string. While this works, I have noticed that it has reformatted the HTML string slightly. For the most part, it looks like it generated a bunch of new CSS classes, and a new style element in the HTML. This HTML does not exist in the string thats being returned. I could filter all of this back out, but wonder if there is a better way. I assume that the Page itself is altering something. What is the best way to display this raw HTML back to the user? I can't directly use a Response.Write(string), because this page does have a few other controls on it.

  • Asp.net Script manager conflicting with button

    - by DJPB
    Hi there. I'm working on an asp.net app and I have some controls that are created dinamically on the OnInit event. One of that controls is an asp button that has been working fine until now. When I add a ScriptManager to my page, that same button is unnable to postback. It's only working if a take the ScriptManager out. has anything like this ever appened to somebody else? Am I invalidating the page somehow? Tks ps: this is my scrip manager tag: <asp:ScriptManager ID="ScriptManager1" runat="server" EnablePageMethods="true" EnableScriptGlobalization="true" EnableScriptLocalization="true"> </asp:ScriptManager> //My Dynamic Button: Button button1 = new Button { ID = "button1", Text = "Ok" }; button1.Click += new EventHandler(Button1_Click);

  • ASP.NET Calendar control: HowTo stop resetting calendar when navigating Back in the browser

    - by user125873
Hi All, I've implemented the ASP.NET Calendar control. I'm using it to show events happening in the area. THE PROBLEM Today is August 18th, so when the calendar loads, August is selected as the current month. If I navigate to say October, and then navigate to another page and then try to go back to the page with the Calendar by clicking the browser Back button, the Calendar resets back to August, instead of remaining at October. Can anyone recommend how I may circumvent this? Thanks!

  • .net converting bytearray to double[]

    - by AJ
Hello, I am working with a database from a legacy app which stores 24 floating point values (doubles) as a byte array of length 192, so 8 bytes per value. This byte array is stored in a column of type image in a SQL Server 2005 database. In my .net app I need to read this byte array and convert it to a array of type Double[24]. I can access the field easy enough reader.GetBytes(...) but how to convert the returned ByteArray to Double[24] Any ideas? Thanks, AJ

  • Image gallery control for ASP.Net with filtering capabilities

    - by ks78
I'm writing an ASP.Net application which needs to display a large number of thumbnails, preferably in a paginated format. These thumbnails will be stored on the server's hard disk, but will have their filenames listed in a SQL Server database. What I want to do is to be able to filter the images being displayed based on criteria within the database. I've looked at the NotesForGallery control, which I really like, but it doesn't seem to have a way to do that. --if I'm wrong, please correct me. Are there any other image gallery type controls, preferably free, that can do what I need? I'm hoping someone can recommend a control or solution that will point me in the right direction. Thanks in advance.

  • ASP.net Text Box Enter button pressed hell

    - by Morgeh
Basically I have an asp.net website with login and search pages. Currently, I have no idea why, when ever a user hits enter in either of the login text boxes (user name/password) or in the Seach text box, the website is redirected to the default page. I have no idea why this is happening, I've tried setting defaultButton on both the panel containing the search and the login panel but that doesnt seem to work. I've also tried catching the key press event with javascript which isnt working either. I have no idea what event is being fired and why, or why it seems to override everything I try to do. Anyone seen anything like this before?

  • UrlRewriter.Net with URL with final dot

    - by devio
I want to use UrlRewriter.Net as described in this blog by ScottGu. In the example below, page.aspx should display a page text stored in the database based on the title= URL parameter. After a couple of tweaks the only remaining issue seems to be that a final dot in the URL causes a 404 a sequence of two dots in the URL causes a 400 Windows 7, IIS 7 with Integrated AppPool, VS2008. Looking at the Failed Request Log, it seems that the UrlRewriter module is called after retrieving the request handler. Can these two issues be fixed, or is there a better replacement for UrlRewriter? (A related question only asks about the 404) Edit: This behavior can even be reproduced on SO, so maybe there is no work-around?

  • .NET interview, code structure and the design

    - by j_lewis
I have been given the below .NET question in an interview. I don’t know why I got low marks. Unfortunately I did not get a feedback. Question: The file hockey.csv contains the results from the Hockey Premier League. The columns ‘For’ and ‘Against’ contain the total number of goals scored for and against each team in that season (so Alabama scored 79 goals against opponents, and had 36 goals scored against them). Write a program to print the name of the team with the smallest difference in ‘for’ and ‘against’ goals. the structure of the hockey.csv looks like this (it is a valid csv file, but I just copied the values here to get an idea) Team - For - Against Alabama 79 36 Washinton 67 30 Indiana 87 45 Newcastle 74 52 Florida 53 37 New York 46 47 Sunderland 29 51 Lova 41 64 Nevada 33 63 Boston 30 64 Nevada 33 63 Boston 30 64 Solution: class Program { static void Main(string[] args) { string path = @"C:\Users\<valid csv path>"; var resultEvaluator = new ResultEvaluator(string.Format(@"{0}\{1}",path, "hockey.csv")); var team = resultEvaluator.GetTeamSmallestDifferenceForAgainst(); Console.WriteLine( string.Format("Smallest difference in ‘For’ and ‘Against’ goals > TEAM: {0}, GOALS DIF: {1}", team.Name, team.Difference )); Console.ReadLine(); } } public interface IResultEvaluator { Team GetTeamSmallestDifferenceForAgainst(); } public class ResultEvaluator : IResultEvaluator { private static DataTable leagueDataTable; private readonly string filePath; private readonly ICsvExtractor csvExtractor; public ResultEvaluator(string filePath){ this.filePath = filePath; csvExtractor = new CsvExtractor(); } private DataTable LeagueDataTable{ get { if (leagueDataTable == null) { leagueDataTable = csvExtractor.GetDataTable(filePath); } return leagueDataTable; } } public Team GetTeamSmallestDifferenceForAgainst() { var teams = GetTeams(); var lowestTeam = teams.OrderBy(p => p.Difference).First(); return lowestTeam; } private IEnumerable<Team> GetTeams() { IList<Team> list = new List<Team>(); foreach (DataRow row in LeagueDataTable.Rows) { var name = row["Team"].ToString(); var @for = int.Parse(row["For"].ToString()); var against = int.Parse(row["Against"].ToString()); var team = new Team(name, against, @for); list.Add(team); } return list; } } public interface ICsvExtractor { DataTable GetDataTable(string csvFilePath); } public class CsvExtractor : ICsvExtractor { public DataTable GetDataTable(string csvFilePath) { var lines = File.ReadAllLines(csvFilePath); string[] fields; fields = lines[0].Split(new[] { ',' }); int columns = fields.GetLength(0); var dt = new DataTable(); //always assume 1st row is the column name. for (int i = 0; i < columns; i++) { dt.Columns.Add(fields[i].ToLower(), typeof(string)); } DataRow row; for (int i = 1; i < lines.GetLength(0); i++) { fields = lines[i].Split(new char[] { ',' }); row = dt.NewRow(); for (int f = 0; f < columns; f++) row[f] = fields[f]; dt.Rows.Add(row); } return dt; } } public class Team { public Team(string name, int against, int @for) { Name = name; Against = against; For = @for; } public string Name { get; private set; } public int Against { get; private set; } public int For { get; private set; } public int Difference { get { return (For - Against); } } } Output: Smallest difference in for' andagainst' goals TEAM: Boston, GOALS DIF: -34 Can someone please review my code and see anything obviously wrong here? They were only interested in the structure/design of the code and whether the program produces the correct result (i.e lowest difference). Much appreciated. "P.S - Please correct me if the ".net-interview" tag is not the right tag to use"
