  • Storing the HTML output from a local PHP file into a string using file_get_contents

    - by bobo
    There is a header.php file and it contains some php codes that return HTML. I know I can use require, include to echo the results, but what I want to do is to store its processed output string into a variable. In a page, I used: $headerHTML=file_get_contents('header.php'); Then I got the PHP code output rather than the processed HTML output. I know adding http:// would help. But I prefer to keep using relative path, how can I tell the function to treat the php file correctly?

  • Advanced count and join in Rails

    - by trobrock
    I am try to find the top n number of categories as they relate to articles, there is a habtm relationship set up between the two. This is the SQL I want to execute, but am unsure of how to do this with ActiveRecord, aside from using the find_by_sql method. is there any way of doing this with ActiveRecord methods: SELECT "categories".id, "categories".name, count("articles".id) as counter FROM "categories" JOIN "articles_categories" ON "articles_categories".category_id = "categories".id JOIN "articles" ON "articles".id = "articles_categories".article_id GROUP BY "categories".id ORDER BY counter DESC LIMIT 5;

  • What is the safest way to pass strings around in C?

    - by chucknelson
    I have a program in C using Solaris with VERY ancient compatibility it seems. Many examples, even here on SO, don't work, as well as lots of code I've written on Mac OS X. So when using very strict C, what is the safest way to pass strings? I'm currently using char pointers all over the place, due to what I thought was simplicity. So I have functions that return char*, I'm passing char* to them, etc. I'm already seeing strange behavior, like a char* I passed having its value right when I enter a function, and then the value being mysteriously gone OR corrupted/overwritten after something simple like one printf() or an malloc to some other pointer. I was thinking maybe declaring a local char[] inside each function, using strcpy() immediately, and then eventually returning a pointer where char *returnval = strdup(localchar[]); This seems...sloppy. Can anyone point me in the right direction on a simple requirement?

  • Optimize LINQ Query for use with jQuery Autocomplete

    - by rockinthesixstring
    I'm working on building an HTTPHandler that will serve up plain text for use with jQuery Autocomplete. I have it working now except for when I insert the first bit of text it does not take me to the right portion of the alphabet. Example: If I enter Ne my drop down returns Nlabama Arkansas Notice the "N" from Ne and the "labama" from "Alabama" As I type the third character New, then the jQuery returns the "N" section of the results. My current code looks like this Public Sub ProcessRequest(ByVal context As System.Web.HttpContext) Implements System.Web.IHttpHandler.ProcessRequest ' the page contenttype is plain text' HttpContext.Current.Response.ContentType = "text/plain" ' store the querystring as a variable' Dim qs As Nullable(Of Integer) = Integer.TryParse(HttpContext.Current.Request.QueryString("ID"), Nothing) ' use the RegionsDataContext' Using RegionDC As New DAL.RegionsDataContext 'create a (q)uery variable' Dim q As Object ' if the querystring PID is not blank' ' then we want to return results based on the PID' If Not qs Is Nothing Then ' that fit within the Parent ID' q = (From r In RegionDC.bt_Regions _ Where r.PID = qs _ Select r.Region).ToArray ' now we loop through the array' ' and write out the ressults' For Each item In q HttpContext.Current.Response.Write(item & vbCrLf) Next End If End Using End Sub So where I'm at now is the fact that I stumbled on the "Part" portion of the Autocomplete method whereby I should only return information that is contained within the Part. My question is, how would I implement this concept into my HTTPHandler without doing a fresh SQLQuery on every character change? IE: I do the SQL Query on the QueryString("ID"), and then on every subsequent load of the same ID, we just filter down the "Part". http://www.example.com/ReturnRegions.axd?ID=[someID]&Part=[string]

  • How to remove the file extension in a zsh completion?

    - by meeselet
    I want to adjust zsh so that I can tab complete: myprog <tab> using all *.foo files in ~/somedir, but have it so that it displays them without the .foo extension. Is there any way to do this? This is what I have so far: #compdef myprog typeset -A opt_args local context state line local -a mydirs mydirs="(. ~/somedir)" _arguments -s -S \ "*:name:->foos" \ && return 0 case $state in (foos) _files -W ${mydirs} -g '*.foo(:r)' && return 0 ;; esac return 1 However, this displays double the output for every file (that is, each .foo file is listed with and without its extension). Is there any way around this?

  • update columns when value is numeric in tsql

    - by knittl
    i want to normalize date fields from an old badly designed db dump. i now need to update every row, where the datefield only contains the year. update table set date = '01.01.' + date where date like '____' and isnumeric(date) = 1 and date >= 1950 but this will not work, because sql does not do short circuit evaluation of boolean expressions. thus i get an error "error converting nvarchar '01.07.1989' to int" is there a way to work around this? the column also contains strings with a length of 4, which are not numbers (????, 5/96, 70/8, etc.) the table only has 60000 rows

  • Having an @ inside of a string - PHP

    - by Msencenb
    So I know that you use a backslash to escape most things in php however the @ symbol is an operator that suppresses error messages. I'm trying to put an email string like this inside of an array "[email protected]", however php is throwing an error. How do you escape the @ sign? EDIT: Here is the code example that was throwing the error: $arr = array(3=> "[email protected]",4=> "[email protected]"); However replacing the double quotes with single quotes fixes the error as answered below.... why is that true?

  • Non-string role names in ASP.NET MVC?

    - by MikeWyatt
    ASP.NET MVC has good support for role-based security, but the usage of strings as role names is maddening, simply because they cannot be strongly-typed as enumerations. For example, I have an "Admin" role in my app. The "Admin" string will now exist in the Authorize attribute of my action, in my master page (for hiding a tab), in my database (for defining the roles available to each user), and any other place in my code or view files where I need to perform special logic for admin or non-admin users. Is there a better solution, short of writing my own authorization attribute and filter, that would perhaps deal with a collection of enumeration values?

  • Question about memory allocation when initializing char arrays in C/C++.

    - by Carlos Nunez
    Before anything, I apologize if this question has been asked before. I am programming a simple packet sniffer for a class project. For a little while, I ran into the issue where the source and destination of a packet appeared to be the same. For example, the source and destination of an Ethernet frame would be the same MAC address all of the time. I custom-made ether_ntoa(char *) because Windows does not seem to have ethernet.h like Linux does. Code snippet is below: char *ether_ntoa(u_char etheraddr[ETHER_ADDR_LEN]) { int i, j; char eout[32]; for(i = 0, j = 0; i < 5; i++) { eout[j++] = etheraddr[i] >> 4; eout[j++] = etheraddr[i] & 0xF; eout[j++] = ':'; } eout[j++] = etheraddr[i] >> 4; eout[j++] = etheraddr[i] & 0xF; eout[j++] = '\0'; for(i = 0; i < 17; i++) { if(eout[i] < 10) eout[i] += 0x30; else if(eout[i] < 16) eout[i] += 0x57; } return(eout); } I solved the problem by using malloc() to have the compiler assign memory (i.e. instead of char eout[32], I used char * eout; eout = (char *) malloc (32);). However, I thought that the compiler assigned different memory locations when one sized a char-array at compile time. Is this incorrect? Thanks! Carlos Nunez

  • Find the highest number of occurences in a column in SQL

    - by Ronnie
    Given this table: Order custName description to_char(price) A desa $14 B desb $14 C desc $21 D desd $65 E dese $21 F desf $78 G desg $14 H desh $21 I am trying to display the whole row where prices have the highest occurances, in this case $14 and $21 I believe there needs to be a subquery. So i started out with this: select max(count(price)) from orders group by price which gives me 3. after some time i didn't think that was helpful. i believe i needed the value 14 and 21 rather the the count so i can put that in the where clause. but I'm stuck how to display that. any help?

  • Parsing a String into date with pattern:"dd/MM/yyyy"

    - by kawtousse
    Hi, I want to insert a date having this format MM/dd/YYYY for example:04/29/2010 to 29/04/2010 to be inserted into mysql database in a field typed Date. So i have this code: String dateimput=request.getParameter("datepicker"); DateFormat df = new SimpleDateFormat("dd/MM/yyyy"); Date dt = null; try { dt = df.parse(dateimput); System.out.println("date imput is:" +dt); } catch (ParseException e) { e.printStackTrace(); } but it gives me those error: 1-date imput is:Fri May 04 00:00:00 CEST 2012 (it is not the correct value that have been entered). 2-dismatching with mysql date type. • Overloading operator>> for case insensitive string

    - by TheSOFan
    Given the definition of ci_string from cpp.reference.com, how would we go about implementing operator? My attempts at it involved std::read, but it doesn't seem to work (that is, gcount() properly counts the number of characters entered, but there is no output) #include <iostream> #include <cctype> #include <string> // ci_string definition goes here std::istream& operator>>(std::istream& in, ci_string& str) { return in.read(&*str.begin(), 4); } int main() { ci_string test_str; std::cin >> test_str; std::cout << test_str; return 0; }

  • Interview question: Check if one string is a rotation of other string.

    - by Webdev
    A friend of mine was asked the following question today at interview for the position of software developer. Given two string s1 and s2 how will you check if s1 is a rotated version of s2 ? Example: if s1 = "stackoverflow"; then the following are some of its rotated versions: "tackoverflows" "ackoverflowst" "overflowstack" where as "stackoverflwo" is not a rotated version. The answer he gave was: Take s2 and find the logest prefix that is a substring of s1, that will give you the point of rotation. Once you find that point, break s2 at that point to get s2a and s2b, then just check if concatenate(s2a,s2b) == s1 It looks like a good solution to me and my friend. But the interviewr though otherwise. He asked for a simpler solution. Please help me by telling how would you do this in Java/C/C++ ? Thanks in advance.

  • Rename files and directories using substitution and variables

    - by rednectar
    I have found several similar questions that have solutions, except they don't involve variables. I have a particular pattern in a tree of files and directories - the pattern is the word TEMPLATE. I want a script file to rename all of the files and directories by replacing the word TEMPLATE with some other name that is contained in the variable ${newName} If I knew that the value of ${newName} was say "Fred lives here", then the command find . -name '*TEMPLATE*' -exec bash -c 'mv "$0" "${0/TEMPLATE/Fred lives here}"' {} \; will do the job However, if my script is: newName="Fred lives here" find . -name '*TEMPLATE*' -exec bash -c 'mv "$0" "${0/TEMPLATE/${newName}}"' {} \; then the word TEMPLATE is replaced by null rather than "Fred lives here" I need the "" around $0 because there are spaces in the path name, so I can't do something like: find . -name '*TEMPLATE*' -exec bash -c 'mv "$0" "${0/TEMPLATE/"${newName}"}"' {} \; Can anyone help me get this script to work so that all files and directories that contain the word TEMPLATE have TEMPLATE replaced by whatever the value of ${newName} is eg, if newName="A different name" and a I had directory of /foo/bar/some TEMPLATE directory/with files then the directory would be renamed to /foo/bar/some A different name directory/with files and a file called some TEMPLATE file would be renamed to some A different name file

  • Javascript: gradually adding to string in each iteration ?

    - by Kim Jong Woo
    I have a string like this that is split up: var tokens = "first>second>third>last".split(">"); What I would like in each iteration is for it to return Iteration 0: "last" Iteration 1: "third>last" Iteration 2: "second>third>last" Iteration 3: "first>second>third>last" I am thinking of using decrementing index for loop.... but is there a more efficient approach ? for (int w = tokens.length-1; w == 0; w--) { }

  • Is it possible to combine these 3 mySQL queries?

    - by Greenie
    I know the $downloadfile - and I want the $user_id. By trial and error I found that this does what I want. But it's 3 separate queries and 3 while loops. I have a feeling there is a better way. And yes, I only have a very little idea about what I'm doing :) $result = pod_query("SELECT ID FROM wp_posts WHERE guid LIKE '%/$downloadfile'"); while ($row = mysql_fetch_assoc($result)) { $attachment = $row['ID']; } $result = pod_query("SELECT pod_id FROM wp_pods_rel WHERE tbl_row_id = '$attachment'"); while ($row = mysql_fetch_assoc($result)) { $pod_id = $row['pod_id']; } $result = pod_query("SELECT tbl_row_id FROM wp_pods_rel WHERE tbl_row_id = '$pod_id' AND field_id = '28'"); while ($row = mysql_fetch_assoc($result)) { $user_id = $row['pod_id']; }
