• JPanel: both implementing my own paintComponent() and rendering children doesn't work

  I'm extending a JPanel to display a game board, and adding a JEditorPane at the bottom to hold some status text. Unfortunately, the game board renders just fine, but the JEditorPane is just a blank gray area until I highlight the text in it, when it will render whatever text is highlighted (but not the rest). If I'm understanding Swing right, it should work, because super.paintComponent(g) should render the other children (i.e., the JEditorPane). • Large Scale VHDL techniques

  I'm thinking about implimenting a 16 bit CPU in VHDL. A simplish CPU. ADD, MULS, NEG, BitShift, JUMP, Relitive Jump, BREQ, Relitive BREQ, i don't know somethign along these lines Probably all only working with 16bit operands. I might even cut it down and use only a single operand and a accumulator. With Some status regitsters, Carry, Zero, Neg (unless i use a Accumlator), I know how to design all the parts from logic gates, and plan to build them up from first priciples, So for my ALU I'll need to 'build' a ADDer, proably a Carry Look ahead, group adder, this adder it self is make up oa a couple of parts, wich are themselves made up of a couple of parts. Anyway, my problem is not the CPU design, or the VHDL (i know the language, more or less). It's how i should keep things organised. How should I use packages, How should I name my processes and port maps? (i've never seen the benifit of naming the port maps, or processes)

• how do I assign a variable to a returned response in jQuery

  I wanted to assign a returned value (just text) to a variable in jQuery. I wrote this: var hm=22; $.ajax({ type: "GET", url: "ajax_check_match.php", dataType: "text", success:callback }); function callback(data, status) { // assign ajaxed value to cm variable cm=data; if (hm != cm) { dosomething(); } } But it fails every time. Why is that the cm variable keeps getting undefined when it sends request. I set the php file to return 1 and it still says undefined. I opened ajax_check_match.php in browser and I see "1". I didn't see the point of using XML or JSON since a simple number would suffice. Or do I have to use XML/JSON?

• Undefined symbols when attempting to use CoverStory with iPhone app: _vproc_transaction_end

  After following these steps to set up an iphone project with CoverStory, my build fails with two linker errors. Undefined symbols: "_vproc_transaction_end", referenced from: _gcov_exit in libgcov.a(_gcov.o) _vproc_transaction_end$non_lazy_ptr in libgcov.a(_gcov.o) (maybe you meant: _vproc_transaction_end$non_lazy_ptr) "_vproc_transaction_begin", referenced from: ___gcov_init in libgcov.a(_gcov.o) _vproc_transaction_begin$non_lazy_ptr in libgcov.a(_gcov.o) (maybe you meant: _vproc_transaction_begin$non_lazy_ptr) ld: symbol(s) not found collect2: ld returned 1 exit status The second error is similar to above, except for _vproc_transaction_begin. I'm using Xcode 3.2, GCC 4.2 on Snow Leopard. Any ideas what I'm missing?

• Reference non-GAC version of DLL in Visual Studio 2010

  This is similar to Add Non-GAC reference to project but the solutions presented there don't seem to help. I have a WinForms UI Library (Krypton from ComponentFactory) installed in the GAC. There's a bug I want to track down in that library, so I added the source code to my solution, removed the old references from my WinForms project to Krypton DLLs, added them back as a project references, ensured Copy Local is set to true, double-checked that the path (on reference properties tab) points to my local project, and... ...the GAC version is still being used while debugging. I cannot set a breakpoint in the Krypton source, Debugger.Break() or other code changes to not execute, and when I start the Visual Studio 2010 debugger, I see a Loading from ... GAC_MISL message relating to the Krypton DLLs flash by in the VS 2010 status bar. The DLLs are not copied to the WinForm's Debug folder. How can I reference the "project" version of the files while debugging while leaving them registered in the GAC?

• jQuery Ajax post with dynamic url

  I want to send an AJAX POST, but I want the url that the data is sent to, to be derived from the id of the element that was clicked. This is what I have so far: I have written a javascript function (get_my_url) that returns a url, depending on the element id that was passed to the function.   Hi all, I use vb to get data through my form. I have some optional fileds in my form and I have this problem with the following code: MsgBox(myXPathNavigator.SelectSingleNode("/my:Status/my:Questions/my:Questions1", _ Me.NamespaceManager).IsNode.ToString) When the optional filed 'Questions1' is inserted to the form I get the value 'true' by the IsNode function. If the field it is not inserted I have an exception, stating that the reference is not correct (and it is indeed true). Is there a way to verify about a node, whether it is present or not in my form? • jsonp cross domain only working in IE

  EDIT: At first I thought it wasn't working cross domain at all, now I realize it only works in IE I'm using jQuery to call a web service (ASP.NET .axmx), and trying to us jsonp so that I can call it across different sites. Right now it is working ONLY in IE, but not in Firefox, Chrome, Safari. Also, in IE, a dialog pops up warning "This page is accessing information that is not under its control..." Any ideas? • Compiler/Linking Error: Freedup

  I've been trying to compile a program for hardlinking duplicate files called freedup. I did try to email the author/maintainer of the program, but it's been a long time and I haven't heard anything back from him. I'm trying to compile the program from a cygwin environment using the latest stable versions of gcc (3.4.4-999) and make (3.81-2). I've tried deleting all the object files and running make, but I always get the following error: freedup.o: In function 'main': /home/[user]/freedup-1.5/freedup.c:1791: undefined reference to '_hashed' collect2: ld returned 1 exit status make: * * * [freedup] Error 1 I did take a look at the source code and saw that the "hashed" function is an inline function (which I didn't think had to be declared outside of the source file... but that's just what I gathered from some preliminary googling). If anyone would be kind enough to try compiling this program in a windows environment and has any luck, I'd really appreciate it. • Create list-of-controls in Windows.Forms

  I have decided that I would like to have a list with "complex context", i.e. of custom-controls. (The goal is something looking like a buddy list, with photos, status-icons, text, "start-chat-button".) But I like it to behave as a list: scrollbars, possibility to select multiple items etc. When I have been looking at ListView and ListBox I only see that I can add text and an icon, but not arbitrary controls. I'm I missing how this is done? Or should I use something else then ListView/ListBox?

  I'm looking for a solution that will allow my rails app to render a user-friendly maintenance page when there is no Mysql server available to connect to. Normally a Mysql::Error is thrown from the mysql connection adapter in active_record. Something like: /!\ FAILSAFE /!\ Wed May 26 11:40:14 -0700 2010 Status: 500 Internal Server Error Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' Is there a low-overhead way to catch this error and render a maintenance page instead? I'm assuming that since connections are actually made in the active_record mysql adapter the app never makes it to the controller stack before it throws the error, so you can't catch it in a controller. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

• Keeping iPhone application in sync with GWT application.

  Hi, I'm working on an iPhone application that should work in offline and online modes. In it's online mode it's supposed to feed all the information the user enters to a webservice backed by GWT/GAE. In it's offline mode it's supposed to store the information locally, and when connection is available sync it up to the web service. Currently my plan is as follows: Provide a connection between an app and a webservice using Protobuffers for efficient over-the-wire communication Work with local DB using Core Data Poll the network status, and when available sync the database and keep some sort of local-db-to-remote-db key synchronization. The question is - am I in the right direction? Are the standard patterns for implementing this? Maybe someone can point me to an open-source application that works in a similar fashion? I am really new to iPhone coding, and would be very glad to hear any suggestions. Thanks

I don't want to prevent other processes from reading the table, but I do want to prevent other processes updating the table. If @status_dte < app_date Error Note: @status_dte is a variable stored as the status_dte from table1 However, I want it to throw an error when the EARLIEST status_dte from table 2 with a status_cde of 'Y' is less than the app_dte column in table 1. Keep in mind that this earliest date is not stored anywhere, the history of data changes per customer. Another customer might have the following history. • Unable to add CRM 2011's Organization service as Service Reference to VS project

  I have problem accessing Organization Service when I try to add it as a Service Reference in Visual Studio. However, I can Access the Service in browser. I have tried to add OrganizationData service and there is no issue with that. An Error occurred while attempting to find service at 'http://xxxxxxxx/xxxxx/XRMServices/2011/Organization.svc'. • How do you splice out a part of an xvid encoded avi file, with ffmpeg? (no problems with other files

  Im using the following command, which works for most files, except what seems to be xvid encoded ones /usr/bin/ffmpeg -sameq -i file.avi -ss 00:01:00 -t 00:00:30 -ac 2 -r 25 -copyts output.avi So this should basically splice out 30 seconds of video + audio, starting from 1 minute mark. It does START encoding at the 00:01:00 mark but it goes all the way to the end of the file for some reason, ignoring that I want just 30 seconds. The output looks like this.   I have this: <a href="javascript:void(0);"> <div> <span>some content</span> <span>some content</span> </div> </a> The problem is hovering the mouse over from one <span> to another triggers an instant mouseout and mouseover again even though they have no padding or margin between them. Even on the browser's status bar the link flickers for an instant. How can this be prevented?

• Can't create admin user on Heroku

  I am new to rails and I have gone through Kevin Skoglund's Ruby on Rails 3 Essential Training course on Lynda.com. Through the course you set up a simple cms, which I did. It doesn't cover Git or deployment but I've pushed my simple cms to github (https://github.com/nick5a1/Simple_CMS) and deployed to Heroku (http://nkarrasch.herokuapp.com/). In order to deploy to Heroku I followed the Heroku setup guide (https://devcenter.heroku.com/articles/rails3) and switched my database from MySQL to PostgreSQL. As instructed I changed gen'mysql2' to gen 'sqlite3' in my Gemfile and ran bundle install before pushing. I then ran heroku run rake db:migrate. I'm running into 2 problems. When I try to log in (http://nkarrasch.herokuapp.com/access) I get an error "We're sorry, but something went wrong". I should instead be getting a flash message with invalid username/password combination. This is what I'm getting on my test environment on my local machine. Secondly, when I log into the Heroku console to create and create an admin user, when I try to save that user I get the following error: irb(main):004:0> user.save (1.2ms) BEGIN AdminUser Exists (1.9ms) SELECT 1 AS one FROM "admin_users" WHERE "admin_users"."username" = 'Nick5a1' LIMIT 1 (1.7ms) ROLLBACK => false Any advice on how to troubleshoot would be greatly appreciated :).
