• php/mysql append state to city

  Hello, Having a hard time figuring out the best way to do this... I have a search function that takes "search terms" and "search location". In the location input, I have an suggestion feature that brings up "city, state abbreviation" but it seems some users just do not use it(or can't) so they end up entering just a city name... I need to append the state abbreviation after the form is submitted. I have a table with all city and state names in the U.S. but the problem is... there are multiple cities with the same name in different states... I would like to add the state abbreviation for the state that the city is most popular for(does that make sense?). For example, if the user enters "Miami" I would like it to become "Miami, FL" as opposed to "Miami, WV"... Any ideas? Thanks!

Also, the problem is only while calling this specific server, because I got result when I used Google's address; and it's working fine in my local machine. I've tried cUrl too - but same result.

  I have noticed that when using a SUBMIT type its name attribute gets passed via POST , while an IMAGE type button do not have this data sent, can any one clear this up for me? In both instances the NAME attribute is present at HTML level, but only the SUMBIT type has the NAME sent via POST....is this right?

• find and replace values in csv using PHP

  I'd think there was a question on this already, but I can't find one. Maybe the solution is too easy... Anyway, I have a csv and want to let the user change the values based on a name. I've already sorted out creating new name+value-pairs using the fopen('a') mode, using jQuery to send the AJAX call with newValue and newName. But say the content looks like this: host|http:www.stackoverflow.com folder|/questions/ folder2|/users/ And now I want to change the folder value. So I'll send in folder as oldName and /tags/ as newValue. What's the best way to overwrite the value? The order in the list doesn't matter, and the name will always be on the left, followed by a |(pipe), the value and then a new-line. My first thought was to read the list, store it in an array, search all the [0]'s for oldName, then change the [1] that belongs to it, and then write it back to a file. But I feel there is a better way around this? Any ideas? Maybe regex?

  I'm running the following code over a set of 5,000 results. It's failing due to the memory being exhausted. foreach ($data as $key => $report) { $data[$key]['data'] = unserialize($report['serialized_values']); } I know I can up the memory limit, but I'd like to run this without a problem instead. I'm not going to be able to keep upping the memory forever. I'm working with CodeIgniter on a LAMP stack but am open to other options. Naturally I would prefer to not rewrite the application. I would like to know if there are any ready-made / easily learned caching methods. Primarily I'd like to check if the page has changed since I last scrapped it. If it has, redownload and present. If it hasn't, serve up a cached copy.

  I currently have this function to search and replace in a text file. // Input $ect = array('Visssa', 'Lisssa', 'her'); // Placeholders in the file $put = array('lname', 'fname', 'hisher'); // Replace the placeholders $oput = str_replace($put, $ct, 'tmpfile.txt'); This is not the full program but the idea is replace the values found in tmpfile.txt with the ones found in the $etc array. And it works flawlessly. But, what I need to do is get all passed vars (get/post) and then make the arrays so that the var is the value to replace and the value is the value to replace it with. So, if I sent the url http://xyz.com/?lname=tom&ogre=yes All instances of lname in the file would be replaces with tom and all instances of ogre would be replaced with yes. So somehow it just gets any/all variables passed in get/post and then the arrays showed above would cause the var to be replaced by the value in the file.

  There ought to be a way of sending a post request and getting back just the headers. $ch = curl_init('http://www.stackoverflow.com/'); curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_HEADER, true); curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_POST, true); curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_NOBODY, true); doesn't work, because all setting CURLOPT_NOBODY does is to change the request method to HEAD, thereby overriding CURLOPT_POST. I could just leave the last of these lines out and only process the headers, but is there a more efficient way? It's also odd that there doesn't seem to be a way in cURL to truncate the received content to a specified length as there is with file_get_contents.

  I'm new to PHP =) Right now I am using PHP includes for my site template. I have my header, containing all my <head></head> info. What I want to do is write a code that will take the contents of the <h1></h1> tag from the page, and echo it into the <title></title> tag in my header.php include. I got the PHP Simple HTML DOM Parser from here: http://simplehtmldom.sourceforge.net/, and I found a code (I forget where in all my googling) that goes like this: <?php $url = (!empty($_SERVER['HTTPS'])) ? Like I said, I'm new to PHP and I only know the basics, and I don't know really know any OOP (yet), so I'm sorry if I'm asking a dumb question. It looks like it's getting the current page, then putting the contents of the h1 tag into the variable $element, and then echoing it. But nothing happens when I put it into my page.
