  • Get ID of the object saved with association

    - by Pravin
Hi, Here is my scenario: I have three models Subscriber, Subscription, Plan, with has_many :through relationship between Subscriber and Plans. A subscriber can have multiple plans with one active plan. Whenever a subscriber selects a plan I save it using accepts_nested_attributes_for :subscriptions. I get one plan from the form. Now my problem is I want to get the ID of the record created in subscriptions table.

  • Validate dependent model validation and show error message.

    - by piemesons
Just taking a simple example. We have a question on stackoverflow and while posting a question we want to validate title_of_question, description_of_question that they should be present. Now we have a another model tag having habtm relationshio with question model. How to validate that while saving the question. Means question must have some tags. here the code:-- Models:-- class Question < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :user has_and_belongs_to_many :tags has_many :comments, :as => :commentable has_many :answers, :dependent => :destroy validates_presence_of :title, :content, :user_id end class Tag < ActiveRecord::Base has_and_belongs_to_many :questions validates_presence_of :tag end Form for entering question and tag <div class="form"> <% form_for :question ,@question, :url => {:action => "create" } do |f| %> <fieldset> <%= f.error_messages %> <legend>Post a question</legend> <div> <%= f.label :title %>: <%= f.text_field :title, :size => 100 %> </div> <div> <%= f.label :content ,'Question' %>: <%= f.text_area :content, :rows => 10, :cols => 100 %> </div> <div> <%= label_tag 'tags' %>: <%= text_field_tag 'tag' ,'',:size=> 60 %> add multiple tag using comma </div> <div> <%= submit_tag "Post question" %> </div> </fieldset> <% end %> </div> From Controller.. (Right now question will be saved without validating tag) def create @question = Question.new(params[:question]) @question.user_id=session[:user_id] if @question.save flash[:notice] = "Question has been posted." redirect_to question_index_path else render :action => "new" end end questions_tags table has been created. One approach is creating a virtual column using attribute accessors. another approach is validate associated. right now assuming new tags can be created.(but not duplicate).

  • Using fixtures with factory_girl

    - by deb
When building the following factory: Factory.define :user do |f| f.sequence(:name) { |n| "foo#{n}" } f.resume_type_id { ResumeType.first.id } end ResumeType.first returns nil and I get an error. ResumeType records are loaded via fixtures. I checked using the console and the entries are there, the table is not empty. I've found a similar example in the factory_girl mailing list, and it's supposed to work. What am I missing? Do I have to somehow tell factory_girl to set up the fixtures before running the tests?

  • Authlogic's current_user object in models

    - by jriff
Hi all! I need to know the ID of the current user in a model: def after_save desc, points=nil, nil if answer_index == daily_question.correct_answer_index desc = I18n.t('daily_question.point_log.description.correct') points=daily_question.points else desc = I18n.t('daily_question.point_log.description.incorrect') end current_user.give_points(:description => desc, :points => points ) end But I guess that is not how it is done? • Radius of multiple latitude/longitude points

    - by zekial
I have a program that takes as input an array of lat/long points. I need to perform a check on that array to ensure that all of the points are within a certain radius. So, for example, the maximum radius I will allow is 100 miles. Given an array of lat/long (coming from a MySQL database, could be 10 points could be 10000) I need to figure out if they will all fit in a circle with radius of 100 miles. Kinda stumped on how to approach this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Devise role based routing

    - by teknull
I have an app with multiple users. Each user as a theoretical role (user, client, etc). I've designed a view/controller for each user type. I want to be able to login each type of user do a different root url and lock them to it. Originally I was going to add a column to Users in Devise called role and so I can differentiate the users. The problem I'm having is how to say in routes.rb if current_user.role == "client" root :to = 'controller#index' Once they are logged in to the page I also want to keep them from being able to visit any of my other paths ie: domain.com/calls domain.com/units I've been looking into cancan to run alongside Devise but I'm not sure if this is the answer.

  • Scoping two models on approved

    - by Shaun Frost Duke Jackson
I have three models (Book,Snippet,User) and I'd like to create a scope for where(:approved = true) I'm doing this so I can use the merit gem to define ranking based on count of approved. I'm thinking that writing this as a scope might be to complex but I don't know as I've just started leaning scopes. I've currently got this in my Book & Snippet Model: scope :approved, -> { where(approved: true) } I've playing around with this in my user model but I don't think it's correct: scope :approved, joins(:books && :snippets) Could anyone help start me off or give me some suggestions on what to read?

  • has_many relation doesn't seems right or logical, some thing like belongs_to_many looks right

    - by Vijendra
My situation is like this. Company has many users and users may belongs to many companies. And current implementation is something like below. class Company has_many :employments has_many :users, :through = :employments end class Employment belongs_to :company belongs_to :user end class User has_many :employments has_many :companies, :through = :employments #This doesn't looks correct end User has many companies doesn't looks logically meaningful. It must be some thing like belongs_to_many companies. Do I need to use has_and_belongs_to_many? But that also will gives the same meaning. Can some one please suggest the right way for representing these relationships?

  • Nested Resource - How to pass needed keys, and attribute to update?

    - by Jason B
My nested resources are working for form_for updates, but I have a few toggles that I need to setup to change a status field. So I am using link_to, and accessing the url helper. link_to "toggle", edit_project_expense_path(@project[:id],expense_item[:id]) routes.rb resources :projects do resources :expenses end match '/submit_expense/:id' => 'expenses#submit_expense', :as => 'submit_expense' rake routes edit_project_expense GET /projects/:project_id/expenses/:id/edit(.:format) expenses#edit My question is: How can I also send along :approval_status = "1", with my link_to?

  • Multiple roles with attributes(?) in Capistrano

    - by Justin
How can I pass along attributes to my tasks in capistrano? I'm thinking it would be something along the lines of... role :app, [["server_one", {:name => "alice"}], ["server_two", {:name => "bob"}], ["server_three", {:name => "charles"}]] And then for my task... task :start_server do run "./myscript #{name}" end Any ideas?

  • What can be inside a class that derive from OmniAuth?

    - by Richard77
I have the following class class Identity < OmniAuth:: Identity:: Models:: ActiveRecord attr_accessible :email, :name, :password_digest, :password, :password_confirmation end I wonder if the above properties are the only ones allowed for a class that derive from a OmniAuth. I wish I could add some more like FirstName, LastName, age, gender, and so on. Do I need to create an other model for those properties or can I just add them to the Identity model? Thanks for helping.

  • How do I get AuthLogic to skip Password validation?

    - by ndp
I think I'm just missing something obvious. I send a user a perishable token embedded in a link. They click on it, and they come back to the site. I want to log them in automatically (I'm not building a banking app). This seems like this should be simple, but all the examples I've found require a password. How do I skip this completely? I just seem to get UserSession.create to work.

  • jQuery get request against Sinatra does not get text

    - by jerhinesmith
I have a very simple sinatra site that I'm trying to access via ajax through jQuery. To keep things incredibly simple, this code snippet: get '/behavior_count' do "60" end which returns "60" in the browser, shows up as an empty string when attempting to access the site via $.get in jQuery. The strange part is in Firebug, while the Response is empty, the HTTP header correctly describes Content-Length as 2, and I can see the request show up on the server. Is there something specific to Sinatra that isn't returning my data, or am I not using jQuery correctly? If it helps, I also tried this code: get '/behavior_count' do content_type 'text/plain', :charset => 'utf-8' "60" end and my jQuery looks like $.get('http://mysite:4567/behavior_count'); // Ignore the response, but // watch the request in firebug Any ideas?

  • How to modify partial, depending on controller it's viewed from?

    - by user284194
I'm using a partial from my "messages" controller in my "tags" controller. The portion in question looks like this: <% unless message.tag_list.nil? || message.tag_list.empty? %> <% message.tags.each do |t| %> <div class="tag"><%= link_to t.name.titleize, tag_path(t) %></div> <% end %> <% end %> Is there a way to hide this portion of the partial only when it is viewed from the "tags" controller?

And what can be done so that proc reports Developer when Developer.lab is invoked.

  • helper function not found in view

    - by cbrulak
I'm following the instructions at: http://agilewebdevelopment.com/plugins/acts_as_taggable_on_steroids to add the tag cloud to my view: in the controller: class PostController < ApplicationController def tag_cloud @tags = Post.tag_counts end end I also added the tag_cloud method as a helper method in the controller and in the view: <% tag_cloud @tags, %w(css1 css2 css3 css4) do |tag, css_class| %> (line 1) <%= link_to tag.name, { :action => :tag, :id => tag.name }, :class => css_class %> (line2) <% end %> (line 3) However: 1) if I don't add the helper_method :tag_cloud in the controller I get a undefined method error for tag_cloud 2) if I do add the helper method I get: wrong number of arguments (2 for 0) on the same line 1 of my sample code above. Suggestions?
