  My goal is to write this: println "this should be 3: ($1+2)" //this is invalid groovy, it won't run Yet this is valid in ruby. Is there a way I can put statements that will eval inside a string or must I use complete variables names? I am basically looking for the Ruby equivalent of: puts "this shoud be 3: #{1+2}" #this is valid ruby

  Hi As i know, all the threads share memory location. For example a global variable changes in one thread will reflect in another thread. Since each thread has its own stack, the local variables that are created inside the thread is unique. In this case, why do we need to go for thread specific data mechanism?. I can also see that printf() allows you to embed variables inside and do some stuff like formatting. Is puts() merely a primitive version of printf(). Should it be used for every possible printf() without string interpolation? Thanks

  I have a class where I'm using __set. Because I don't want it to set just anything, I have an array of approved variables that it checks before it will actually set a class property. However, on construct, I want the __construct method to set several class properties, some of which are not in the approved list. So when construct happens, and I do $this->var = $value, I of course get my exception that I'm not allowed to set that variable. Can I get around this somehow?
