  • Run a proc on several different values of one parameter

    - by WEFX
    I have the following query that gets run within a proc. The function MyFunction returns a table, and this query joins on that table. This proc works great when a @MyArg value is supplied. However, I’m wondering if there’s a way to run this on all @MyArg values in the database. I’m sure there’s a way to do it within a loop, but I know that loops are generally to be avoided at the db layer. I really just need to perform this for the sake of checking (and possibly cleansing) some bad data. SELECT ColumnA, ColumnB, ColumnC FROM ( SELECT a.ColumnA, a.ColumnB, a.ColumnC, ROW_NUMBER() over(partition by a.ColumnD order by f.ColumnX) as RowNum FROM dbo.MyTableA AS a INNER JOIN dbo.MyFunction(@MyArg) f ON f.myID = a.myID WHERE (a.myBit = 1 OR a.myID = @MyArg) ) AS x WHERE x.rownum = 1;

  • Sql Server Development Server and Live

    - by Chris
I have a database project that goes through iterations (only one so far) and I need to deploy a testing version to a live server. I'm not sure how to go about this. I can make all the changes in a copy and then remake those changes in the live version. That doesn't make sense. Is there a way to change a server name to an existing server? What's the best practice for this scenario?

  • How to run stored procedure 1000 times

    - by subt13
I have a stored procedure that I'm using to populate a table with about 60 columns. I have genereated 1000 exec statements that look like this: exec PopulateCVCSTAdvancement 174, 213, 1, 0, 7365 exec PopulateCVCSTAdvancement 174, 214, 1, 0, 7365 exec PopulateCVCSTAdvancement 175, 213, 0, 0, 7365 Each time the stored procedure will be inserting anywhere from 1 to 3,000 records (usually around 2,000 records). The "server" is running desktop hardware with 4 gigs of available memory on a server OS. The problem I have is that after the first 10-15 executes of an average of 1-2 seconds each time, the next 10-15 seem to never finish. Am I doing this correctly? How should I do this? Thanks! • Computed Column with relationships

    - by Sethery
I have a table, MapLocation, which has a column and two relationships with tables that have a field that really need to be displayed as a single concatenated value. I was thinking this was a perfect case for a computed column, but not sure how to go about it. MapLocation MaoNo Section _____________________ _____________________ _____________________ MapNoId MapNoId SectionId SectionId MapNumber (int) Section (int) Identifier (nvarchar) LocationName (nvarchar) LocationName = "MapNUmber - SectionNumber - Identifier" ex: 20 - 03 - SW4 How would I write that? I haven't done much with computed columns or concatenating in SQL. Edit: I need an actual computed column that is automatically updated, im looking for the formula. Or is this more of a function/trigger? Its possible, I certainly barely know what I'm doing. The idea is that I dont want to have to do two more server calls and concatenate these values client side.

  • find a duplicate series in SQL

    - by SomeMiscGuy
I have a table with 3 columns containing a variable number of records based off of the first column which is a foreign key. I am trying to determine if I can detect when there is a duplicate across multiple rows for an entire series declare @finddupseries table ( portid int, asset_id int, allocation float ) ; INSERT INTO @finddupseries SELECT 250, 6, 0.05 UNION ALL SELECT 250, 66, 0.8 UNION ALL SELECT 250, 2, 0.105 UNION ALL SELECT 250, 4, 0.0225 UNION ALL SELECT 250, 5, 0.0225 UNION ALL SELECT 251, 13, 0.6 UNION ALL SELECT 251, 2, 0.3 UNION ALL SELECT 251, 5, 0.1 UNION ALL SELECT 252, 13, 0.8 UNION ALL SELECT 252, 2, 0.15 UNION ALL SELECT 252, 5, 0.05 UNION ALL SELECT 253, 13, 0.4 UNION ALL SELECT 253, 2, 0.45 UNION ALL SELECT 253, 5, 0.15 UNION ALL SELECT 254, 6, 0.05 UNION ALL SELECT 254, 66, 0.8 UNION ALL SELECT 254, 2, 0.105 UNION ALL SELECT 254, 4, 0.0225 UNION ALL SELECT 254, 5, 0.0225 select * from @finddupseries The records for portid 250 and 254 match. Is there any way I can write a query to detect this? edit: yes, the entire series must match. Also, if there was a way to determine which one it DID match would be helpful as the actual table has around 10k records. thanks!

  • How can I use SQL Server's full text search across multiple rows at once?

    - by Morbo
I'm trying to improve the search functionality on my web forums. I've got a table of posts, and each post has (among other less interesting things): PostID, a unique ID for the individual post. ThreadID, an ID of the thread the post belongs to. There can be any number of posts per thread. Text, because a forum would be really boring without it. I want to write an efficient query that will search the threads in the forum for a series of words, and it should return a hit for any ThreadID for which there are posts that include all of the search words. For example, let's say that thread 9 has post 1001 with the word "cat" in it, and also post 1027 with the word "hat" in it. I want a search for cat hat to return a hit for thread 9. This seems like a straightforward requirement, but I don't know of an efficient way to do it. Using the regular FREETEXT and CONTAINS capabilities for N'cat AND hat' won't return any hits in the above example because the words exist in different posts, even though those posts are in the same thread. (As far as I can tell, when using CREATE FULLTEXT INDEX I have to give it my index on the primary key PostID, and can't tell it to index all posts with the same ThreadID together.) The solution that I currently have in place works, but sucks: maintain a separate table that contains the entire concatenated post text of every thread, and make a full text index on THAT. I'm looking for a solution that doesn't require me to keep a duplicate copy of the entire text of every thread in my forums. Any ideas? Am I missing something obvious?

  • What is preferred method for searching table data using stored procedure?

    - by Mourya
    I have a customer table with Cust_Id, Name, City and search is based upon any or all of the above three. Which one Should I go for ? Dynamic SQL: declare @str varchar(1000) set @str = 'Select [Sno],[Cust_Id],[Name],[City],[Country],[State] from Customer where 1 = 1' if (@Cust_Id != '') set @str = @str + ' and Cust_Id = ''' + @Cust_Id + '''' if (@Name != '') set @str = @str + ' and Name like ''' + @Name + '%''' if (@City != '') set @str = @str + ' and City like ''' + @City + '%''' exec (@str) Simple query: select [Sno],[Cust_Id],[Name],[City],[Country],[State] from Customer where (@Cust_Id = '' or Cust_Id = @Cust_Id) and (@Name = '' or Name like @Name + '%') and (@City = '' or City like @City + '%') Which one should I prefer (1 or 2) and what are advantages? After going through everyone's suggestion , here is what i finally got. DECLARE @str NVARCHAR(1000) DECLARE @ParametersDefinition NVARCHAR(500) SET @ParametersDefinition = N'@InnerCust_Id varchar(10), @InnerName varchar(30),@InnerCity varchar(30)' SET @str = 'Select [Sno],[Cust_Id],[Name],[City],[Country],[State] from Customer where 1 = 1' IF(@Cust_Id != '') SET @str = @str + ' and Cust_Id = @InnerCust_Id' IF(@Name != '') SET @str = @str + ' and Name like @InnerName' IF(@City != '') SET @str = @str + ' and City like @InnerCity' -- ADD the % symbol for search based upon the LIKE keyword SELECT @Name = @Name + '%', @City = @City+ '%' EXEC sp_executesql @str, @ParametersDefinition, @InnerCust_Id = @Cust_Id, @InnerName = @Name, @InnerCity = @City; References : http://blogs.lessthandot.com/index.php/DataMgmt/DataDesign/changing-exec-to-sp_executesql-doesn-t-p http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms175170.aspx

  • FreeText COUNT query on multiple tables is super slow

    - by Eric P
I have two tables: **Product** ID Name SKU **Brand** ID Name Product table has about 120K records Brand table has 30K records I need to find count of all the products with name and brand matching a specific keyword. I use freetext 'contains' like this: SELECT count(*) FROM Product inner join Brand on Product.BrandID = Brand.ID WHERE (contains(Product.Name, 'pants') or contains(Brand.Name, 'pants')) This query takes about 17 secs. I rebuilt the FreeText index before running this query. If I only check for Product.Name. They query is less then 1 sec. Same, if I only check the Brand.Name. The issue occurs if I use OR condition. If I switch query to use LIKE: SELECT count(*) FROM Product inner join Brand on Product.BrandID = Brand.ID WHERE Product.Name LIKE '%pants%' or Brand.Name LIKE '%pants%' It takes 1 secs. I read on MSDN that: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms187787.aspx To search on multiple tables, use a joined table in your FROM clause to search on a result set that is the product of two or more tables. So I added an INNER JOINED table to FROM: SELECT count(*) FROM (select Product.Name ProductName, Product.SKU ProductSKU, Brand.Name as BrandName FROM Product inner join Brand on product.BrandID = Brand.ID) as TempTable WHERE contains(TempTable.ProductName, 'pants') or contains(TempTable.BrandName, 'pants') This results in error: Cannot use a CONTAINS or FREETEXT predicate on column 'ProductName' because it is not full-text indexed. So the question is - why OR condition could be causing such as slow query?

  • Performance optimization for mssql: decrease stored procedures execution time or unload the server?

    - by tim
Hello everybody! We have a web service which provides search over hotels. There is a problem with performance: a single request to the service takes around 5000 ms. Almost all of the time is spent in database by executing storing procedures. During the request our server (mssql2008) consumes ~90% of the processor time. When 2 requests are made in parallel the average time grows and is around 7000 ms. When number of request is increasing, the average time of response is increasing as well. We have 20-30 requests per minute. Which kind of optimization is the best in this case having in mind that the goal is to provide stable response time for the service: 1) Try to decrease the stored procedures execution time 2) Try to find the way how to unload the server It is interesting to hear from people who deal with booking sites. Thanks!

  • Problem using OLEDBCOMMANDBUILDER.

    - by Lullly
So, here it goes: I need to copy data from table in access database, in another table from another access database. Column names from tables are the same, except the fact that the FROM table has 5 columns, the TO table has 6. here is my code: dsFrom.Clear() dsTO.Clear() daFrom = Nothing daTO = Nothing conn_string1 = "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source="etc.mdb;" conn_string2 = "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source="database.mdb;" query1 = "Select * from nomenclator_produse" query2 = "Select * from nomenclator_produse" Conn1 = New OleDbConnection(conn_string1) conn2 = New OleDbConnection(conn_string2) Conn1.Open() conn2.Open() daFrom = New OleDbDataAdapter(query1, Conn1) daTO = New OleDbDataAdapter(query2, conn2) daFrom.AcceptChangesDuringFill = False dsFrom.HasChanges() daFrom.Fill(dsFrom, "nomenclator_Produse") dsFrom.HasChanges() Dim cb = New OleDbCommandBuilder(daFrom) dsTO = dsFrom.Copy daTO.UpdateCommand = cb.GetUpdateCommand daTO.InsertCommand = cb.GetInsertCommand daTO.Update(dsTO, "nomenclator_produse") Because the FROM table has 5 rows and the other has 6, i'm trying to use the InsertCommand generated by the DataAdapter of the first table. It works, only that it inserts the data from the FROMTABLE in the same FROMTABLE, instead of TOTABLE. :| please help me :(

  • Returning Null values with COUNT

    - by Randy B.
With this query, I get a result that is two short of the table because they are not included in count, and I would like get the NULL values in the result. To do this, I am pretty sure I need to use a subquery of some kind, but I am not sure how, since the attribute in question is an aggregate. SELECT Equipment.SerialNo , Name, COUNT(Assignment.SerialNo) FROM Equipment INNER JOIN Assignment ON Assignment.SerialNo = Equipment.SerialNo GROUP BY Equipment.SerialNo, Name

  • SQL SERVER Spatial Data

    - by Sam
Hi All, I am struggeling finding an effectient way to find a distance between a Point that interetcts a polygon and the border of that polygon. I was able to use the STDistance comparing the point to every point that made up the polygon but that is taking a lot of time. Using SPatial indexed wasnt much helpful because the STDistance is not part of any constraint and even when I did put the constraint, the index didnt help much. I appreciate any feedback. Thanks.

  • How can you get the average of the count of records in Reporting Services

    - by Tim Coker
I have a report where I'm counting the number of records for a day. At the bottom, I have the total records for that time period. I'd like to display the average records for each day. An example: Day Tests 1/1/2010 5 1/2/2010 10 1/3/2010 8 Average 7.7 Total 23 I can accomplish this by aggregating the data by date in SQL then just doing the Average and Sum of the count from SQL, but that would complicate the report considerably as I'm doing other column filters for the types of tests performed. There seems to be a simple way to accomplish this that I'm missing. I can't do Average(Count(field)) in SSRS, unfortunately. Is there something I'm missing, or is there really not a way to accomplish this simply?

  • SSRS - rsAccessDenied error

    - by user1718857
I have created one SSRS text report. I have built and deployed it successfully. I am also able to view it from the report manager succesfully. I am a local admin on windows server but not on SQL Server. Issue :- I am trying to schedule a report to run on a daily basis. When I go to Data sources to store my windows id credentials, it's not allowing me to do so throwing below error. The permissions granted to user 'app\abcid' are insufficient for performing this operation. (rsAccessDenied) Things I have tried :- Added my windows domain id to report manager and given all roles that are there still no success. Added server to the trusted sites in the IE, still no success.
