• UITableView becomes invisible after changing data in it

  Hi I have application with TabBar that control several views. In one view i control connection to different servers.Each server provides different set of items. I display these items in UITableView on other view. I create table view like this UITableView * aTableView = [[UITableView alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(X,Y,Width,Height) style:UITableViewStyleGrouped]; [[self view] addSubview:aTableView]; aTableView.da taSource = self; The problem is that Table view displayed ok first time , but if i go back to view number one and change server(changing list of items that should be displayed in table view), table view becomes invisible for some reason. If i tap on the screen in place where it should be, its becomes visible again. Ive tried to call to reloadData and setNeedDisplay in viewWillAppear of the UIViewController that hosts this table view, but without success. Any advice? Thanks

• Is it possible to provide a resize indication (resizer-grip) on a form without adding a status bar?

  I would like to have a resize indication on a windows forms Form (the same resize-grip as when you have a status bar). I do not want to add a status bar to the form - that would break the design of the form. The form can have various controls inside that are docked (Fill). I have not found any solution to this besides drawing the resize indication in lower right corner of every control, which is not very feasible. Is this possible without adding a picture of the resize grip to every control that can be docked in the form?

• Best way to do partial update content on ASP.NET

  Initially i was planning to use master page for every page in my application. At the end, i found out every times the page is changed, it reload full page even it have the same master page. I have confused the frameset with the master page. Then, i have 2 ideas in my minds to achieve it by not using master page. Using iframe and set the attribute to runat server, so that i can change the page in my codebehind.(I preferred to control the page flow in server side) Make every single child page to user control. Then dynamically load it to the panel in codebehind. Please give me some advise which method is the best in ASP.NET with AJAX enabled, or other ways that is better. Thanks.

• JavaFX - question regarding binding button's disabled state

  I'm trying to create a dummy application that maintains a list of tasks. For now, all I'm trying to do is add to the list. I enter a task name in a text box, click on the add task button, and expect the list to be updated with the new item and the task name input to be cleared. I only want to be able to add tasks if the task name is not empty. The below code is my implementation, but I have a question regarding the binding. I'm binding the textbox's text variable to a string in my view model, and the button's disable variable to a boolean in my view model. I have a trigger to update the disabled state when the task name changes. When the binding of the task name happens the boolean is updated accordingly, but the button still appears disabled. But then when I mouse over the button, it becomes enabled. I believe this is due to JavaFX 1.3's binding being lazy - only updates the bound variable when it is read. Also, when I've added the task, I clear the task name in the model, but the textbox's text doesn't change - even though I'm using bind with inverse. Is there a way to make the textbox's text and the button's disabled state update automatically via the binding as I was expecting? • Code behind methods vs. Jquery AJAX calls

  Theres a war brewing I can feel it! Old school coders are used to having every server control create events in the .cs files.. for example.. Getting the Initial load of data, Saving Data, Deleting data... and then binding datasources to the server control.. New school coders want to do it in Jquery + AJAX calls to .svc files... That gives automatic no post backs so that is a advantage... and I think its a different way of thinking.. All of a sudden the UI related events are all being done in Jquery.. What is the most modern and efficient way to go ? How can I convince the old school coders to let us you this new paradigm ? (assuming it is the better way)

• How do I manually log a user in with a MembershipProvider?

  I'm experimenting with writing my own custom MembershipProvider in asp.net and I want to roll my own login page. We do some fairly special stuff at login time so we can't use the default login control so I need a way to manually log a user in. So far I haven't found anything on how to write your own login control so I'm here, wondering how I can manually log a user in via a MembershipProvider. I've tried Membership.ValidateUser("user", "pass"); and while that does call ValidateUser() on my custom MembershipProvider, and it does return true, it doesn't actually log me in. Btw I'm fairly new to the whole MembershipProvider stuff so if I'm not even on the right wavelength, feel free to let me know.

• Finding controls inside nested master pages

  I have a master page which is nested 2 levels. It has a master page, and that master page has a master page. When I stick controls in a ContentPlaceHolder with the name "bcr" - I have to find the controls like so: Label lblName =(Label)Master.Master.FindControl("bcr").FindControl("bcr").FindControl("Conditional1").FindControl("ctl03").FindControl("lblName"); Am I totally lost? Or is this how it needs to be done? I am about to work with a MultiView, which is inside of a conditional content control. So if I want to change the view I have to get a reference to that control right? Getting that reference is going to be even nastier! Is there a better way? Thanks

• How to select a dynamic datepicker instance in order to extend it with jQuery

  I'm trying to control positioning of a jQuery datepicker element. I like the solution offered at http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1818670/how-to-control-positioning-of-jqueryui-datepicker for overriding the _checkOffset fn: $.extend(window.DP_jQuery.datepicker,{_checkOffset:function(inst,offset,isFixed){return offset}}); However, this results in a 'window.DP_jQuery is undefined' error. Upon inspection, I can see that the DP_jQuery object in the DOM gets named with a random string, like so: DP_jQuery_123456. If I use this full name in the above code, it works wonderfully. My question is whether there's a way to exend the _checkOffset fn for a datepicker instance without knowing before-hand what the instance name is? For example, can I use some sort of wildcard to select all datepicker instances that begin with 'DP_jQuery_'? Thanks

• How to place text on top of image in ReportViewer

  I feel very silly asking this, since it seems like it just should work, but I cannot make it work and cannot find anything in the documentation about this. The problem: I'm developing an application in Visual Studio 2010 that is utilizing ReportViewer, rendering the report locally. In the report designer, I place a textbox on top of an image. This looks fine in the designer, but when rendering the report, the textbox is rendered below the image. Now, before you suggest it, I have tried placing a textbox on top of a rectangle (or other control) with the BackgroundImage property set. This works. But: I cannot find a way to rescale the background image to fit the control. Setting a different dpi for the background image does nothing. Simply rescaling the image to a different resolution is not an option, since I eventually want to print the report. Does anybody have a solution to this?

  I like to use the "UserControl TestContainer" that works great for testing a controls properties during design time. Yet it has limitations. Usually, I just create a Windows Form Application to test the control's run-time interface. It would be nice to combine the two phases. Today, I discovered that the test-container is defined in the project file as show below. What I like to do is create my own test-container and use it for my Windows Forms Control Library projects in Visual Studio 2008. I cannot find any specific documentation, and the documentation I found was related to MSTest and not helpful.   I have wpf datagrid with number of template columns. some of them have textbox in them in edit mode and some combobox. i need to give cut/copy/paste facility to user from main menu (ribbon) buttons of my application. when i select some text from textbox and press copy button from main menu. copy button becomes active control so i loose textbox as active control by which i could get selected text. (any solution for this) and second thing i wanted to ask... is there any event get fired when we select textbox's contents? or solution would be appreciated. Thanks in advance...

• Multiple Progress Bar States in WPF

  I'm currently developing a WPF application in C# and I want to have a progress bar control that can be in a "paused" state as well as an "error" state. Much like this: http://wyday.com/windows-7-progress-bar/ Unfortunately, that's a Windows Forms control and implementing it via a Windows Forms Host proved to be incompatible. My question is, how can I go about accomplishing a similar effect in WPF? Is it possible to make multiple "states" of a progress bar? Is this kind of operation in WPF but I'm just looking over it? I'm mainly talking about the progress bar itself here, I'm pretty sure I know how to achieve this in the taskbar. All help is appreciated, especially code examples. Thanks!

• Silverlight: Use reflection to get the BindingExpression (and value) for controls having a ContentPr

  Hello, I need to use reflection to get the binding value in a control that is a DataGridTemplateColumn (e.g HyperLinkButton). Does anyone know how I might do this? It seems simple enough to do this with a TextBlock because it has a “TextProperty” dependency property, but I can’t seem to get a binding expression from a control that does not have an immediate “TextProperty”. • 'Out of Memory exception' in sql server 2005 xml column

  Hi All, I am devloping a windows forms application and am using sql server 2005 database as my backend. I am having an xml column in my database. I am using ultrawingrid control in my application.I obtain the xml of the dataset which is bound to my ultrawingrid control and pass that as a parameter value to the stored procedure where am inserting this value into the xml column which I specified. The columns in my grid are dynamic and hence there can be any no of columns in my grid. I got 'out of memory' exception in the dataset.GetXml() statement since there were more no of columns I believe.So, what I did is that I used dataset.WriteXml() method and stored all the xml contents into an xml file, loaded the xml file into the XmlDocument object and then passed the xmlnodereader as the value to the stored procedure parameter.Now, while executing the stored procedure am getting the same 'out of memory' exception. How could I resolve this issue?

• Are there C# controls that can be used to create a hierarchical list of prioritised items?

  I need to be able to display and edit a hierarchical list of tasks in a C# app. It can either be a Windows form app, or ASP.NET. Basically, I want similar behaviour to the way Microsoft Project handles tasks. The control would need to: 1) Maintain a list of items made up of several fields 2) Each item can have a number of children (at least 3 levels of nesting) 3) It needs to be very easy to change the parents/children of an item 4) It needs to be very easy to edit the fields (as fast as changing cells in Excel) 5) It needs to be very easy to reorder the items by dragging and dropping or cut and paste 6) If I can easily connect the control to a database, even better Before I go and create something manually, I'm wondering if there is something available already?

• WPF: Turning off animations, data binding temporarly for invisible objects?;)

  I have a window that contains a tab control - basically multiple sheets with visualizations on them. The visualtizations are: possible very resource intensive during rendering relying on constant data updates to update their underlying models Obviously only one sheet can be visible every time ;) Anyone knows of a good way to turn off all visualization, animations, data binding for a control / panel and it's contained controls? If I would find a way to do that, I could simply turn off all the invisible sheets and reactivate them as needed. The models must be kept running - some of the visual stuff is pretty complex and really relies on constant data updates, and recalculating it when someone switches tabs would be too hard.

• How to load secure S3 images into Flex with temporary URLs

  I have some secure images on S3 that I need to load into Flex. I was expecting to be able to do this using signed temporary URLs but can't get it working. I know the URLs I'm generating are correct, because they load fine in my browsers' address bar. Moreover, Flex has no problem loading my images with a non-signed url when they are public, but as soon as I try signing the urls all the images fail, whether public or not. I've tried image.source = signedURL, image.load(signedURL), etc. If I try loading the file with URLLoader/URLStream, it looks like I'm getting the data OK, but I'm not sure how to translate those results to an Image control. Is this just an issue with the Image control not being able to recognize signed urls? Do I have to load the image from a byte array? What would that look like?

We want to create a single page on the website that is accessible only to internal users. We need to: Prevent all external (public) users from accessing the URL. Permit specific internal users to access the page, only from certain IPs or networks. Should this access control be done at the (a) network level, (b) application level, etc.?

• Issue with child of custom Decorator class in WPF (c#)

• Combining Shared Secret and Certificates

  As discussed in the introduction article this walkthrough will explain how you can implement WCF security with the Windows Azure Service Bus to ensure that you can protect your endpoint in the cloud with a shared secret but also combine this with certificates so that you can identify the sender of the message.   Prerequisites As in the previous article before going into the walk through I want to explain a few assumptions about the scenario we are implementing but to keep the article shorter I am not going to walk through all of the steps in how to setup some of this. In the solution we have a simple console application which will represent the client application. There is also the services WCF application which contains the WCF service we will expose via the Windows Azure Service Bus. The WCF Service application in this example was hosted in IIS 7 on Windows 2008 R2 with AppFabric Server installed and configured to auto-start the WCF listening services. I am not going to go through significant detail around the IIS setup because it should not matter in relation to this article however if you want to understand more about how to configure WCF and IIS for such a scenario please refer to the following paper which goes into a lot of detail about how to configure this. The link is: http://tinyurl.com/8s5nwrz   Setting up the Certificates To keep the post and sample simple I am going to use the local computer store for all certificates but this bit is really just the same as setting up certificates for an example where you are using WCF without using Windows Azure Service Bus. In the sample I have included two batch files which you can use to create the sample certificates or remove them. Basically you will end up with: A certificate called PocServerCert in the personal store for the local computer which will be used by the WCF Service component A certificate called PocClientCert in the personal store for the local computer which will be used by the client application A root certificate in the Root store called PocRootCA with its associated revocation list which is the root from which the client and server certificates were created   For the sample Im just using development certificates like you would normally, and you can see exactly how these are configured and placed in the stores from the batch files in the solution using makecert and certmgr.   The Service Component To begin with let's look at the service component and how it can be configured to listen to the service bus using a shared secret but to also accept a username token from the client. In the sample the service component is called Acme.Azure.ServiceBus.Poc.Cert.Services. It has a single service which is the Visual Studio template for a WCF service when you add a new WCF Service Application so we have a service called Service1 with its Echo method. Nothing special so far!.... The next step is to look at the web.config file to see how we have configured the WCF service. In the services section of the WCF configuration you can see I have created my service and I have created a local endpoint which I simply used to do a little bit of diagnostics and to check it was working, but more importantly there is the Windows Azure endpoint which is using the ws2007HttpRelayBinding (note that this should also work just the same if your using netTcpRelayBinding). The key points to note on the above picture are the service behavior called MyServiceBehaviour and the service bus endpoints behavior called MyEndpointBehaviour. We will go into these in more detail later.   The Relay Binding The relay binding for the service has been configured to use the TransportWithMessageCredential security mode. This is the important bit where the transport security really relates to the interaction between the service and listening to the Azure Service Bus and the message credential is where we will use our certificate like we have specified in the message/clientCrentialType attribute. Note also that we have left the relayClientAuthenticationType set to RelayAccessToken. This means that authentication will be made against ACS for accessing the service bus and messages will not be accepted from any sender who has not been authenticated by ACS.   The Endpoint Behaviour In the below picture you can see the endpoint behavior which is configured to use the shared secret client credential for accessing the service bus and also for diagnostic purposes I have included the service registry element.     Hopefully if you are familiar with using Windows Azure Service Bus relay feature the above is very familiar to you and this is a very common setup for this section. There is nothing specific to the username token implementation here. The Service Behaviour Now we come to the bit with most of the certificate stuff in it. When you configure the service behavior I have included the serviceCredentials element and then setup to use the clientCertificate check and also specifying the serviceCertificate with information on how to find the servers certificate in the store.     I have also added a serviceAuthorization section where I will implement my own authorization component to perform additional security checks after the service has validated that the message was signed with a good certificate. I also have the same serviceSecurityAudit configuration to log access to my service. My Authorization Manager The below picture shows you implementation of my authorization manager. WCF will eventually hand off the message to my authorization component before it calls the service code. This is where I can perform some logic to check if the identity is allowed to access resources. In this case I am simple rejecting messages from anyone except the PocClientCertificate.     The Client Now let's take a look at the client side of this solution and how we can configure the client to authenticate against ACS but also send a certificate over to the service component so it can implement additional security checks on-premise. I have a console application and in the program class I want to use the proxy generated with Add Service Reference to send a message via the Azure Service Bus. You can see in my WCF client configuration below I have setup my details for the azure service bus url and am using the ws2007HttpRelayBinding.   Next is my configuration for the relay binding. You can see below I have configured security to use TransportWithMessageCredential so we will flow the token from a certificate with the message and also the RelayAccessToken relayClientAuthenticationType which means the component will validate against ACS before being allowed to access the relay endpoint to send a message.     After the binding we need to configure the endpoint behavior like in the below picture. This contains the normal transportClientEndpointBehaviour to setup the ACS shared secret configuration but we have also configured the clientCertificate to look for the PocClientCert.     Finally below we have the code of the client in the console application which will call the service bus. You can see that we have created our proxy and then made a normal call to a WCF in exactly the normal way but the configuration will jump in and ensure that a token is passed representing the client certificate.     Conclusion As you can see from the above walkthrough it is not too difficult to configure a service to use both a shared secret and certificate based token at the same time. This gives you the power and protection offered by the access control service in the cloud but also the ability to flow additional tokens to the on-premise component for additional security features to be implemented. • Partial Git deployment strategy?

  I need to setup a Kohana dev environment that allows me to make full use of shared module / system classes across separate applications. Each application typically belonging to a different client. I use Git for source control, but am struggling to come up with a clean deployment method that will allow me to pull only those parts of the dev environment specific to a client / app down into that client's production environment (assuming that the client's production environment will have Git installed). Dev enviroment: - kohana - applications - clientapp1 - clientapp2 - modules - public_html - clientapp1 - clientapp2 - system - 3.0.1 - 3.0.5 Client 1's production environment: - / - applications - clientapp1 - modules - public_html - client_app1 - system - 3.0.5 Naturally, I want to have total control over each client "sub repo" as if it were an independent repo (in terms of gitignore, etc). I have seen topics that cover Git's sparse checkout feature, but it seems like it may cause a few problems down the line from a maintenance point of view, and I don't like the idea of the entire repo's metadata existing in client's production environment repo.
