  • Divs: Equal Horizontal Spacing

    - by Vecta
I'm creating a site that has a series of four images on the homepage used as navigation with a large image beneath. <div style="width: 696px"> <div class="imglink"></div> <div class="imglink"></div> <div class="imglink"></div> <div class="imglink"></div> </div> <div style="width:696px"> ... </div> The "imglink" divs are 160px wide. I would like the images in the top div to be horizontally spaced evenly inside the div, with the two outer divs flush with the edges of the image below. I've been trying out floats, margins, padding, etc for a couple hours now and can't figure it out. Thanks for your help!

  • difficulty with deleting a function from jquery snippet

    - by user1691389
I'm trying to get rid of a function that appends a loading gif while the script is busy ajax'ing in new content, but I keep breaking the script so I'm posting it here hoping someone can just kindly edit it for me correctly. (I'd like to get rid of everything that has to do with #load and keep everything else intact.) $('#header_nav_content_container a, a.scroll_to_top, a.clear_banner, a.desire').not('.exception').click(function(){ var toLoad = $(this).attr('href')+' #content'; $('#content').hide(1555,'easeInOutQuint',loadContent); $('#load').remove(); $('body').append('<span id="load">LOADING...</span>'); $('#load').fadeIn(888); window.location.hash = $(this).attr('href').substr(0,$(this).attr('href').length-0); function loadContent() { $('#content').load(toLoad,'',showNewContent); } function showNewContent() { $('#content').show(777,'',hideLoader); } function hideLoader() { $('#load').fadeOut(888); } return false; }); Thanks for your help.

  • Is there an HTML code that can make my background picture transparent and my text non-transparent?

    - by user1831312
Okay so I've been typing some HTML code for a technology class that I need to satisfy for my Education major. This is what i have for my background: body { background-image:url('islandbeach.jpg'); background-repeat:repeat; background-position:center; background-attachment:fixed; background-size:cover; } Now, I want to make my background transparent or faded so I can see the text and the other image that I have. The background is too colorful to be able to see the words without having to squint. Are there any HTML codes that can do this for me? I am not a pro at this stuff, I've just been following everything my professor has told me to do so please explain stuff in baby steps if you do have an answer. Thank you so so much!

  • Full background using :cover; makes adds horizontal scroll

    - by user1907341
I am working on a website which needs a header with full background image & 650 height. At the moment i am using background-size: cover; property with 100% width. While, it's working it leaves an awkward horizontal scroll of about 50px on right side. Which is lot more prominent in smaller resolutions. I tried applying background to body instead of header div too. But same thing happens there as well. You can see a preview here - http://nitingarg.com/projects/tfe/

  • Horizontal scrollbar for textbox

    - by Tim
Is it possible to add a horizontal scrollbar to a text box that works in all browsers? Currently if the text value is bigger than the size of the text box you have to highlight the text and move cursor to the right to see the rest of the text. I'd like user to have a scrollbar to use instead.

  • Can I float a block of text like an image?

    - by george.entenman.name
If you change "float:right" to "float:left" in this W3schools example, you'll get an image floating to the left of the paragraph. I want to do the same thing with a block of text. The purpose is to be able to have little annotations to the left of paragraphs. If you know of any way to do this, I'd be very grateful. I'd be really grateful (and amazed) if there were a way to place this annotation midway in a paragraph and have text flow around it. I've searched all over for an answer but possibly don't know how to ask the question so that search engines can help me. So now I'm appealing to humans!!

  • vertically aligning image in fluid container

    - by archytect
looked for other examples but couldn't find any. my image container uses max-width/max-height so the image scales to the container but I can't seem to get it to auto margin top/bottom or vertical align it to the middle without setting a height. html, body { width: 100%; height: 100%; margin: 0px; } #container { border: solid 1px #000; height: 100%; width: 65%; position: absolute; right: 0; } #container img { max-width: 100%; max-height: 100%; display: block; margin: auto; vertical-align: middle; }? <div id="container"><img src="http://rack.2.mshcdn.com/media/ZgkyMDEyLzEyLzE2LzAzL3NjcmVlbnNob3QyXzJlb2RkLnBuZwpwCXRodW1iCTg1MHg1OTA+CmUJanBn/5b500a85/9ee/screen-shot-2012-12-14-at-9-45-01-am.jpg" /> </div>? http://jsfiddle.net/beftR/

  • Best Methods for Dynamically Creating New Objects

    - by frankV
    I'm looking for a method to dynamically create new class objects during runtime of a program. So far what I've read leads me to believe it's not easy and normally reserved for more advanced program requirements. What I've tried so far is this: // create a vector of type class vector<class_name> vect; // and use push_back (method 1) vect.push_back(*new Object); //or use for loop and [] operator (method 2) vect[i] = *new Object; neither of these throw errors from the compiler, but I'm using ifstream to read data from a file and dynamically create the objects... the file read is taking in some weird data and occasionally reading a memory address, and it's obvious to me it's due to my use/misuse of the code snippet above. The file read code is as follows: // in main ifstream fileIn fileIn.open( fileName.c_str() ); // passes to a separate function along w/ vector loadObjects (fileIn, vect); void loadObjects (ifstream& is, vector<class_name>& Object) { int data1, data2, data3; int count = 0; string line; if( is.good() ){ for (int i = 0; i < 4; i++) { is >> data1 >> data2 >> data3; if (data1 == 0) { vect.push_back(*new Object(data2, data3) ) } } } }

  • IE div shorter than 20 px?

    - by aeq
I can't seem to get my <div> height in IE (7) to be shorter than 20px: <div style="background: green; height: 1px;"> </div> Using the above code (both with and without html and body tags) the height of the div cannot seem to drop below a certain value (I think it is 20px). Any ideas?

  • Width of Repeating Backgrounds

    - by tdskate
Hello. What's best, a repeating background of 100px wide so that the actual file doesn't need to be redrawn 1000X times in width, or a 1px file that probably has smaller file size, but the browser will need to redraw it a lot more. Thanks.

  • possible to use <img> as <div>?

    - by FatDogMark
for example if I want to put an image wrap another object, possible? <img src='pic.png'> <div id='block'> <p>Somebody </div> </img> I know I should just use div and background-image but I want to use the property auto img{width:50%; height:auto;} If I use div , using auto won't works because it won't know the background-image size and will not adjust the div depends on the image ratio aspect.

  • Yet another div height question

    - by cf_PhillipSenn
Over the years, I've struggled with this. This year, there might be a solution. I need a header, content and footer. I would like the footer to be at the bottom of the page, the header at the top, and the content in between. I would like the content to have a scroll bar. Q: Is that too much to ask?
