  • Will I get penalised by google for overflow hidden? [duplicate]

    - by Rascal Capac
This question already has an answer here: How bad is it to use display: none in CSS? 5 answers I have 2 divs next to each other, div A and div B. Div A displays a whole wordpress post and div B displays about 15 excerpts of posts with the same tag. To get this looking nice I set the hight of div B to be the same as the hight of div A with javaScript. This means alot of post excerpts will be hidden due to overflow hidden on div B. Will Google penalise me for this, and if so, how can I make this work and still please Google? Ps. I would gladly prevent the excerpts from being indexed but the main post must be indexed Ds.

  • Hosting my own SVN repositories

    - by TheAdamGaskins
I've been experimenting with Google Code and Sourceforge and the like, and am happy with what I've found. The main problem with them, is that you have to have your project be open source to use them, so anybody can edit them. So... is there some way I can have my own svn repositories on my own server? I have FTP access, cpanel, and all that. If it helps any: Operating system Linux cPanel Version 11.26.20 Architecture x86_64 MySQL version 5.0.91-community-log Apache version 2.2.13 PHP version 5.2.11 cPanel Pro 1.0 (RC1)

Real Question : Is there anyway programmatically or manually I can get 1000+ search results (URLs using search query e.g. "Apple" returns million of results on google and I want as much as possible URLs of them results in a text file)

  • Appcache and jquery mobile on a CMS powered site?

    - by user793011
Has anyone used the cache manifest to make a CMS site work offline? I've made a demo with static html files which seems to work fine, so I'm assuming it wouldn't be too hard to achieve the same thing with a CMS. The way that you tell browsers that files have changed (and so need to be downloaded again) is by adding a comment to the cache manifest file so its byte size changes. I'm not quite sure how to do this with a CMS, but maybe some sort of server cron could run periodically? Personally I'm more interested in having a site that works offline rather than achieving ideal performance, so if the file was modified every hour rather than when content actually changed that would be fine for me. If anyone has used appcache with a CMS, has anyone done so with jquery mobile at the same time? What I'm after is a fully native feel to a site that's accessible offline, in other words I want to mimic a native App. My static demo does this perfectly with jquery mobile, so again I would have thought this would be achievable in a CMS.

    - by user1744649
I might buy an SSL certificate for my sie. I know that it will help me in many ways. But will there be dis-advantages also? eg. If I load an image from another server (using plain http), will that alert the customer saying something is wrong? Will I be able to use all existing codes like phpbb, awstats etc without a problem? Will there be any issue if redirect a page from my domain.com to my subdomain.domain.com using a meta refresh or .htaccess? • How could I go about creating bespoke automated e-mails?

    - by Seraphina
I'd like some suggestions as to how to best go about creating an application which can generate bespoke automated e-mails? What sort of language would be the best one to use for this? (I'm currently familiar with Python and JavaScript) Any helpful frameworks? I would have thought that for this application to work well, some machine learning would have to be incorporated? (But this may be a bit too advanced for me at the moment!)

  • Social Media JSR 357 NOT approved by Executive Committee

    - by alexismp
JSR 357 (Social Media API) has not passed the initial ballot which means, according to the JCP rules, that "the JSR submitter(s) who may revise the JSR and resubmit it within 14 days". Given the comments associated with the negative votes, it may be challenging for the submitters to address the concerns about the scope assessed by many as being too wide. Standardization is a difficult task and the JCP (the Executive Committee in fact) played its role by pointing out the challenges ahead of such a JSR as it was envisioned by its submitters, and thus the risk of never completing. If anything this proves that the JCP is working as expected. For those disappointed that Java will not get a standard "Social Media API" (for now at least), let me remind you of the recent open-sourcing of DaliCore.

  • How to enable a Web portal-based enterprise platform on different domains and hosts without customization

    - by S.Jalali
I work at Coscend, a cloud and communications software product company. We have built a Web portal-based collaboration platform that we would like to host on five different Windows- and Linux-based servers in different hosting environments that run Web servers. Each of these Windows and Linux servers have a different host name and domain name (and IP address). Out team would appreciate your guidance on: (1) Is there a way to implement this Web portal-based platform on these Linux servers without customizing the host name, domain name and IP address for each individual instance? (2) Is there a way to create some variables using JavaScript for host name and domain name and call them from the different implementations? (3) Can these JavaScript modules be made portable and re-usable object modules for different environments and instances? The portal is written in JavaScript that is embedded in HTML5 and padded with CSS3. Other technologies include Flash, Flex. Databases used are PostgreSQL and MySQL.

  • How to specify ingredients in Schema.org (other than recipes or drugs)?

    - by guillem
I'd like to use Schema.org for a series of product specs pages. The products are cosmetics (shampoos, creams, etc.) and ideally an INCI declaration will be included for every product. I'd like to use Schema.org in the declaration, but I cannot find a suitable category in Schema.org. Ingredients is meant for cooking recipes, and ActiveIngredient for (medical) drugs and dietary supplements. Did I overlook some part of the tree? Any ideas for a workaround? Or am I trying to do something out of scope?

  • If C-Panel Indexing Manager sets a folder to "No Indexing" can it be crawled by a webcrawler?

    - by Graham
People are able to view directories / folders on my site right now. So, they could go to mysite.com/images and see the full index. To prevent this, C-Panel offers an option to set a directory / folder to "No Indexing" under the "Index Manager." Will this option allow webcrawlers to crawl / index the images? Or, is there a simpler alternative to block access to all folders directly while still having it SEO friendly? My old server restricted direct access to folders by default. But, the new one does not. Any ideas on this? Thanks!
