  • Should convert String to Int in java @ 1.5 or use other method?

    - by NiksBestJPro
    I'm writing a program in which I want to terminate program by pressing any key(whether character or numbers), so I did a conversion from string to int using Integer.parseInt(variable) method and compare choices if it is not desired choice it should terminate the program but it show an error Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NumberFormatException: for input string: "d". program code is as follows:- public class mainClass { public static void main(String[]ar) { double res=0; Scanner in = new Scanner(System.in); Tdata td1 = new Tdata(); //another class object System.out.println("*Temperature Conversion*"); System.out.println("------------------------------"); System.out.println("Press 1- C2F"); System.out.println("Press 2- F2C"); System.out.println("<- Press aNY kEY TO Exit -"); String choice = in.nextLine(); //==================================================================== int ch = Integer.parseInt(choice); System.out.println("String has converted: " +ch); //verifying if converted into int if(ch == 1 || ch == 2) { if(ch == 1) { td1.getVal(37.4); res = td1.C2F(); System.out.println("Resulted Temperature: "+res); } else if(ch == 2) { td1.getVal(104.2); res = td1.F2C(); System.out.println("Resulted Temperature: "+res); } else { System.out.println("mind your input plz"); } } else { System.out.println("<- You select to exit ->"); System.exit(0); } //========================================================================================= }//end of main }//end of public class Now I think that I should convert undesired input to its previous state ie. String state.. is it right way or should Try another predefined method available in api. -Thanks! Niks

  • Array length is zero in jQuery.

    - by James123
    I wrote like this. After submit click loop is not excuting. But I saw value are there, But array lenght is showing '0'. (Please see picture). Why it is not going into loop? and $('#myVisibleRows').val(idsString); becoming 'empty'. $(document).ready(function() { $('tr[@class^=RegText]').hide().children('td'); var list_Visible_Ids = []; var idsString, idsArray; alert($('#myVisibleRows').val()); idsString = $('#myVisibleRows').val(); idsArray = idsString.split(','); $.each(idsArray, function() { if (this != "") { $('#' + this).siblings(('.RegText').toggle(true)); window['list_Visible_Ids'][this] = 1; } }); $('tr.subCategory1') .css("cursor", "pointer") .attr("title", "Click to expand/collapse") .click(function() { //this = $(this); $(this).siblings('.RegText').toggle(); list_Visible_Ids[$(this).attr('id')] = $(this).css('display') != 'none' ? 1 : null; alert(list_Visible_Ids[$(this).attr('id')]) }); $('#form1').submit(function() { idsString = ''; $.each(list_Visible_Ids, function(key, val) { alert(val); if (val) { idsString += (idsString != '' ? ',' : '') + key; } }); $('#myVisibleRows').val(idsString); form.submit(); }); });

  • (Java) Get value of string loaded into dynamic-type object?

    - by Michael
    I'm very new to Java (~10 days), so my code is probably pretty bad, but here's what I've got: ArgsDataHolder argsData = new ArgsDataHolder(); // a class that holds two // ArrayList's where each element // representing key/value args Class thisArgClass; String thisArgString; Object thisArg; for(int i=2; i< argsString.length; i++) { thisToken = argsString[i]; thisArgClassString = getClassStringFromToken(thisToken).toLowerCase(); System.out.println("thisArgClassString: " + thisArgClassString); thisArgClass = getClassFromClassString(thisArgClassString); // find closing tag; concatenate middle Integer j = new Integer(i+1); thisArgString = getArgValue(argsString, j, "</" + thisArgClassString + ">"); thisArg = thisArgClass.newInstance(); thisArg = thisArgClass.valueOf(thisArgString); argsData.append(thisArg, thisArgClass); } The user basically has to input a set of key/value arguments into the command prompt in this format: <class>value</class>, e.g. <int>62</int>. Using this example, thisArgClass would be equal to Integer.class, thisArgString would be a string that read "62", and thisArg would be an instance of Integer that is equal to 62. I tried thisArg.valueOf(thisArgString), but I guess valueOf(<String>) is only a method of certain subclasses of Object. For whatever reason, I can't seem to be able to cast thisArg to thisArgClass (like so: thisArg = (thisArgClass)thisArgClass.newInstance();, at which point valueOf(<String>) should become accessible. There's got to be a nice, clean way of doing this, but it is beyond my abilities at this point. How can I get the value of the string loaded into a dynamically-typed object (Integer, Long, Float, Double, String, Character, Boolean, etc.)? Or am I just overthinking this, and Java will do the conversion for me? :confused:

  • Refetching a previously visited page

    - by user613665
    All, I am having a field day with page refetching. Any help or pointer will be greatly appreciated!! The behavior is a bit specific to mobile browser. Problem: I have two pages and created a shortcut link to pg#1 in the home page. Through a form submit button, user is taken from pg#1 to pg#2. All that is working fine. Now once I am on pg#2. I will leave the browser and click the shortcut later. The browser will stay on pg#2 and won't go to pg#1 even though the path in URLS is different between the two views. It is almost like Django decides that since I have already visited view#1, it doesn't need to fetch it again. This problem or behavior doesn't happen if I move the same code that handle the two views and the templates to a bare bone test project. Setup: I am using django-registration, context session. I am not using any HTML caching tag. I already have DEBUG turned on in my settings.py. Are there other ways that I can tell what the server is doing. Thanks in advance. pdxMobile Update: Here is the code snippets. def sendmsg(request): if request.method =='POST': messages.add_message(request, messages.INFO, "Hello world") return redirect ('rcvmsg') return render_to_response('sendMsg.html',RequestContext(request)) def rcvmsg(request): '''view that receives the msg.''' printMsg ='Didnt get a message' if messages: thisMsg = messages.get_messages(request) for rcvMsg in thisMsg: printMsg = rcvMsg return render_to_response('rcvMsg.html',{'print_msg':printMsg},RequestContext(request)) URL: url(r'^rcvMsg/','mydomain.mainApp.views.rcvmsg',name='rcvmsg'), (r'^sendMsg/code','mydomain.mainApp.views.sendmsg'),

  • Calculating percent "x/y * 100" always results in 0?

    - by Patrick Beninga
    In my assignment i have to make a simple version of Craps, for some reason the percentage assignments always produce 0 even when both variables are non 0, here is the code. import java.util.Random; Header, note the variables public class Craps { private int die1, die2,myRoll ,myBet,point,myWins,myLosses; private double winPercent,lossPercent; private Random r = new Random(); Just rolls two dies and produces their some. public int roll(){ die1 = r.nextInt(6)+1; die2 = r.nextInt(6)+1; return(die1 + die2); } The Play method, this just loops through the game. public void play(){ myRoll = roll(); point = 0; if(myRoll == 2 ||myRoll == 3 || myRoll == 12){ System.out.println("You lose!"); myLosses++; }else if(myRoll == 7 || myRoll == 11){ System.out.println("You win!"); myWins++; }else{ point = myRoll; do { myRoll = roll(); }while(myRoll != 7 && myRoll != point); if(myRoll == point){ System.out.println("You win!"); myWins++; }else{ System.out.println("You lose!"); myLosses++; } } } This is where the bug is, this is the tester method. public void tester(int howMany){ int i = 0; while(i < howMany){ play(); i++; } bug is right here in these assignments statements winPercent = myWins/i * 100; lossPercent = myLosses/i* 100; System.out.println("program ran "+i+" times "+winPercent+"% wins "+ lossPercent+"% losses with "+myWins+" wins and "+myLosses+" losses"); } }

  • Joomla get plugin id

    - by Christian Sciberras
    I wrote a Joomla plugin which will eventually load a library. The path to library is a plugin parameter, as such when the path is incorrect, a message pops up in the backend, together with a link to edit the plugin parameters: /administrator/index.php?option=com_plugins&view=plugin&client=site&task=edit&cid[]=36 See the 36 at the end? That's my plugin's id in the database (table jos_plugins). My issue is that this id changes on installation, ie, on different installs, it would be something else. So I need to find this id programmatically. The problem is that I couldn't find this id from the plugin object itself (as to why not, that would be joomla's arguably short-sighted design decision). So unless you know about some neat trick, (I've checked and double checked JPlugin and JPluginHelper classes), I'll be using the DB. Edit; Some useful links: http://docs.joomla.org/Plugin_Developer_Overview http://api.joomla.org/Joomla-Framework/Plugin/JPlugin.html http://api.joomla.org/Joomla-Framework/Plugin/JPluginHelper.html http://forum.joomla.org/viewtopic.php?p=2227737 Guess I'll be using the wisdom from that last link...

  • C# / this. and List<T>

    - by user3533030
    I am having trouble understanding how to initialize a List of objects and use it with methods inside of a class. I understand the mechanics of the List, but not how to initialize it inside a method and use it later. For example, I want to have a class that creates the List when it is constructed. Then, I want to use a method of that class to add elements to the list. The elements in the list are objects defined by the SolidWorks API. So, to construct the List, I used... public class ExportPoints : Exporter { public List<SldWorks.SketchPoint> listOfSketchPoints; public ExportPoints(SldWorks.SldWorks swApp, string nameSuffix) : base(swApp, nameSuffix) { List<SldWorks.SketchPoint> listOfSketchPoints = new List<SldWorks.SketchPoint>(); } public void createListOfFreePoints() { try { [imagine more code here] this.listOfSketchPoints.Add(pointTest); } catch (Exception e) { Debug.Print(e.ToString()); return; } } This fails during execution as if the listOfSketchPoints was never initialized as a List. So, I tried a hack and this worked: public ExportPoints(SldWorks.SldWorks swApp, string nameSuffix) : base(swApp, nameSuffix) { List<SldWorks.SketchPoint> listOfSketchPoints = new List<SldWorks.SketchPoint>(); this.listOfSketchPoints = listOfSketchPoints; } This approach creates the behavior that I want. However, it seems that I lack some understanding as to why this is necessary. Shouldn't it be possible to "initialize" a List that is a property of your object with a constructor? Why would you need to create the list, then assign the pointer of that new List to your property?

  • [C++] Parent-Child scheme

    - by rubenvb
    I'm writing a class that holds a pointer to a parent object of the same type (think Qt's QObject system). Each object has one parent, and the parent should not be destroyed when a child is destroyed (obviously). class MyClass { public: MyClass(const MyClass* ptr_parent): parent(parent){}; ~MyClass(){ delete[] a_children; }; private: const MyClass* ptr_parent; // go to MyClass above MyClass* a_children; // go to MyClass below size_t sz_numChildren; // for iterating over a_children } (Excuse my inline coding, it's only for brevity) Will destroying the "Master MyClass" take care of all children? No child should be able to kill it's parent, because I would then have pointers in my main program to destroyed objects, correct? Why might you ask? I need a way to "iterate" through all subdirectories and find all files on a platform independent level. The creation of this tree will be handled by native API's, the rest won't. Is this a good idea to start with? Thanks!

  • How can a B-tree node be represented?

    - by chronodekar
    We're learning B-trees in class and have been asked to implement them in code. The teacher has left choice of programming language to us and I want to try and do it in C#. My problem is that the following structure is illegal in C#, unsafe struct BtreeNode { int key_num; // The number of keys in a node int[] key; // Array of keys bool leaf; // Is it a leaf node or not? BtreeNode*[] c; // Pointers to next nodes } Specifically, one is not allowed to create a pointer to point to the structure itself. Is there some work-around or alternate approach I could use? I'm fairly certain that there MUST be a way to do this within the managed code, but I can't figure it out. EDIT: Eric's answer pointed me in the right direction. Here's what I ended up using, class BtreeNode { public List<BtreeNode> children; // The child nodes public static int MinDeg; // The Minimum Degree of the tree public bool IsLeaf { get; set; } // Is the current node a leaf or not? public List<int> key; // The list of keys ... }

  • php parsing csv with ftell

    - by Robert82
    I have a 500mb csv file with over 500,000 lines, each with 80 fields. I am using fget to process the file line by line. $col1 = array(); while (($row = fgetcsv($handle, 1000, ",")) !== FALSE) { $col1[] = $row[0]; } Because of an execution time limit on the PHP file by my hosting provider (120 seconds), I can't process the whole file in one run. I tried using ftell() and fseek() to remember the last position for restart. The trouble is, sometimes the ftell() position is in the middle of a row, and resuming means missing the first half of the row. Is there an elegant way to know the last line successfully processed, and resume from the one after it? I realize I can do a simple counter, and then loop through to that point again, but that would produce diminishing returns on the rows I can process towards the end of the file. Is there something like ftell() and fseek() that would work in my case? Or a way to limit ftell() to return the pointer for the end of the previous line?

  • Can I make a derived class inherit a derived member from its base class in Java?

    - by Eric
    I have code that looks like this: public class A { public void doStuff() { System.out.print("Stuff successfully done"); } } public class B extends A { public void doStuff() { System.out.print("Stuff successfully done, but in a different way"); } public void doMoreStuff() { System.out.print("More advanced stuff successully done"); } } public class AWrapper { public A member; public AWrapper(A member) { this.member = member; } public void doStuffWithMember() { a.doStuff(); } } public class BWrapper extends AWrapper { public B member; public BWrapper(B member) { super(member); //Pointer to member stored in two places: this.member = member; //Not great if one changes, but the other does not } public void doStuffWithMember() { member.doMoreStuff(); } } However, there is a problem with this code. I'm storing a reference to the member in two places, but if one changes and the other does not, there could be trouble. I know that in Java, an inherited method can narrow down its return type (and perhaps arguments, but I'm not certain) to a derived class. Is the same true of fields?

  • Help - use PHP-broswer, or proxy or get_page_contents or include page, or something else ??

    - by userlite
    Hi, I am trying to develop a web application for which I need to capture a specific user-driven event (such as mouse dblclick) occurring on a different-website page loaded through my website. What I want to do is : User visits my website - hosted by me. There, user types in any website URL (e.g.: http://www.example.com) That URL page gets loaded as is. When user double-clicks mouse over any link or image from that page, a popup/side-panel is displayed with content related to that particular image or link. I can do this with a combination of PHP get_page_contents or include-page, and javascript dblclick. However, when user clicks on any link or submits a form, the control goes to that other website, where I cannot show the side-panel. I might be able to handle the links by proxifying them when user clicks on any of them. How do I handle forms submission and other stuff ? I can use a full-featured proxy, but that will be too heavy just for the purpose of capturing the event. My question is that is there a way to write some kind of light PHP script that sits on my website - that loads other websites contents as is, but lets me capture the mouse-dblclick event to show related-content in the side panel . I have already searched the internet, but could not find anything. Any help is really appreciated. Thanks.

  • math.Random isn't working right

    - by RandomlyKnighted
    I'm trying to simulate a coin flip using the code below. public class Coin { public static double result; int[] count = new count[2]; public static void flip() { result = Math.random(); } public static boolean isHeads() { if (result == 0.0) { count[0]++; return false; } else { count[1]++; return true; } } public static void main(String[] args) { flip(); isHeads(); System.out.println(count[0]); System.out.println(count[1]); } } For some reason Eclipse says that the import java.util.Random; is never used even though I'm clearly using it. I didn't put my for loop into the code above but it loops n number of times and then outputs the result. No matter how many times it loops it always returns that the result is greater than 0.0 which can't be right. Am I calling Math.random incorrectly?

  • byte and short data types in Java can accept the value outside the range by explicit cast. The higher data types however can not. Why?

    - by Lion
    Let's consider the following expressions in Java. byte a = 32; byte b = (byte) 250; int i = a + b; This is valid in Java even though the expression byte b = (byte) 250; is forced to assign the value 250 to b which is outside the range of the type byte. Therefore, b is assigned -6 and consequently i is assigned the value 26 through the statement int i = a + b;. The same thing is possible with short as follows. short s1=(short) 567889999; Although the specified value is outside the range of short, this statement is legal. The same thing is however wrong with higher data types such int, double, folat etc and hence, the following case is invalid and causes a compile-time error. int z=2147483648; This is illegal, since the range of int in Java is from -2,147,483,648 to 2147483647 which the above statement exceeds and issues a compile-time error. Why is such not wrong with byte and short data types in Java?

  • A scheme to show picture

    - by luoliyong
    I have a requirement that need me to show picture using one canvas. All the operation will be done on this canvas, include change the picture (This picture is made of lines, rectangular and so on. Draw these lines or rectangular will use the base method). In China, we called use double buffer(CGBitmapContextCreate), one of the scheme like this // create the bitmap context CGColorSpaceRef colorSpace = CGColorSpaceCreateDeviceRGB(); CGContextRef context = CGBitmapContextCreate(nil,27,27,8,0, colorSpace,kCGImageAlphaPremultipliedLast); CFRelease(colorSpace); Maybe now it is not very clear. I talk about the project. The project has an engine, That will call methed draw line, draw round ,draw rectangular according user's input, this lines, rounds, rectangular will make up a picture? and then usr changes his input, the picture also will change, the engine accept usr's input, and draw picture. and the engine inits only once. I hope you can understand what I say, and give me some advice. Thanks.

  • Game design flaw, need help investigating

    - by Snake
    I am not sure if I will be able to get help here but I would give it a shot. The problem is I dont know where the problem is. I have a cards game, in which when you "human" play by dragging a card, then at the end of card being dragged, a handler using postExecute is called with delay of 0.5 sec to start the next player in turn (which is a bot) The bot chooses the color and plays it and at the end of the animation (the card moving to the middle) a handler is started for the next bot and so on. Once the play reaches again to the human player, it waits for his touchs to drag the crad and start the cycle again. The problem that in production, sometimes I am getting errors. The error is resulting in somehow messing up the sequence which ends up with players having more cards than others. After investigation, I found that the transition from human to bot is the problem. Somehow, the transition is happening twice (meaning handler calling post execute twice and the bot is playing twice and everything is messed up). Its been mutliple months and I can't reproduce it (to fix it) and I cna't figure out why this is happeneing? ANY IDEA how I can go after it? How can I get more info about or how can I solve something like that? any pointer would help me

  • how to pass vector of string to foo(char const *const *const)?

    - by user347208
    Hi, This is my first post so please be nice. I searched in this forum and googled but I still can not find the answer. This problem has bothered me for more than a day, so please give me some help. Thank you. I need to pass a vector of string to a library function foo(char const *const *const). I can not pass the &Vec[0] since it's a pointer to a string. Therefore, I have an array and pass the c_str() to that array. The following is my code (aNames is the vector of string): const char* aR[aNames.size()]; std::transform(aNames.begin(), aNames.end(), aR, boost::bind(&std::string::c_str, _1)); foo(aR); However, it seems it causes some undefined behavior: If I run the above code, then the function foo throw some warnings about illegal characters ('èI' blablabla) in aR. If I print aR before function foo like this: std::copy(aR, aR+rowNames.size(), std::ostream_iterator<const char*>(std::cout, "\n")); foo(aR); Then, everything is fine. My questions are: Does the conversion causes undefined behavior? If so, why? What is the correct way to pass vector of string to foo(char const *const *const)? Thank you very much for your help!

(Although there is another alignment problems with IE) but not in Chrome or Safari. I had it working before, but the only thing I can think of to do is target safari and Chrome. Is this possible? Here's the CSS and HTML(Smarty) for you. HTML(Smarty): {capture assign="cartUpdate"} <div id="cartUpdate"><!--<input type="submit" class="submit" value="{tn _update}" />--> <button type="submit" class="submit" id="oppdatersubmit" name="saveFields" title="Oppdater" value="">&nbsp;</button> </div> {/capture} {assign var="cartUpdate" value=$cartUpdate|@str_split:10000} {php}$GLOBALS['cartUpdate'] = $this->get_template_vars('cartUpdate'); $this->assign_by_ref('GLOBALS', $GLOBALS);{/php} {form action="controller=order action=update" method="POST" enctype="multipart/form-data" handle=$form id="cartItems"} CONTENT {/form} And the CSS: #oppdatersubmit { background-image:url(../../upload/oppdater.png); background-repeat:no-repeat; background-position:left; background-color:none; border:none; overflow:hidden; outline:none; white-space: nowrap; width:77px; height:25px; cursor:pointer; position:absolute; } #cartUpdate { position:absolute; width:160px; height:30px; left:580px; bottom:130px; } Need to change these for Chrome and Safari. Thanks.

  • Is this an error in "More Effective C++" in Item28?

    - by particle128
    I encountered a question when I was reading the item28 in More Effective C++ .In this item, the author shows to us that we can use member template in SmartPtr such that the SmartPtr<Cassette> can be converted to SmartPtr<MusicProduct>. The following code is not the same as in the book,but has the same effect. #include <iostream> class Base{}; class Derived:public Base{}; template<typename T> class smart{ public: smart(T* ptr):ptr(ptr){} template<typename U> operator smart<U>() { return smart<U>(ptr); } ~smart(){delete ptr;} private: T* ptr; }; void test(const smart<Base>& ) {} int main() { smart<Derived> sd(new Derived); test(sd); return 0; } It indeed can be compiled without compilation error. But when I ran the executable file, I got a core dump. I think that's because the member function of the conversion operator makes a temporary smart, which has a pointer to the same ptr in sd (its type is smart<Derived>). So the delete directive operates twice. What's more, after calling test, we can never use sd any more, since ptr in sd has already been delete. Now my questions are : Is my thought right? Or my code is not the same as the original code in the book? If my thought is right, is there any method to do this? Thanks very much for your help.

  • I am trying to access the individual bytes in a floating point number and I am getting unexpected results

    - by oweinh
    So I have this so far: #include <iostream> #include <string> #include <typeinfo> using namespace std; int main () { float f = 3.45; // just an example fp# char* ptr = (char*)&f; // a character pointer to the first byte of the fp#? cout << int(ptr[0]) << endl; // these lines are just to see if I get what I cout << int(ptr[1]) << endl; // am looking for... I want ints that I can cout << int(ptr[2]) << endl; // otherwise manipulate. cout << int(ptr[3]) << endl; } the result is: -51 -52 92 64 so obviously -51 and -52 are not in the byte range that I would expect for a char... I have taken information from similar questions to arrive at this code and from all discussions, a conversion from char to int is straightforward. So why negative values? I am trying to look at a four-byte number, therefore I would expect 4 integers, each in the range 0-255. I am using Codeblocks 13.12 with gcc 4.8.1 with option -std=C++11 on a Windows 8.1 device.

  • Debugging a local SQL Server 2008 stored proceedure from Visual studio 2008

    - by Ricibob
    Hi all, There are a few posts about this question around but most concern remote debugging - here everything is on same machine. Visual studio 2008. I have a data connection to localhost SQL Server 2008 using Windows authentication with an admin account - this account is a member of sysadmin in SQL server. I double click stored proc and add a break point. I right click and select "Step into stored proceedure". I get the loathed and feared "Canceled by user." in output window. Does anyone know whats doing? Further - right clicking on the data connection shows both "Application debugging" and "Allow SQL/CLR Debugging". I have checked "Enable SQL Server debugging" on the properties of the C# client app. If run that in debug and try to step in to stored proc code "command.ExecuteNonQuery()" then the break points in the stored proc become disabled and are not pulled. After doing this once the right click on stored proc "Execute" and "Step into stored proceedure" are greyed/disabled. To get them back I have to restart visual studio (refresh connection doesn't do it). Any help much appreciated!! Cheers.
