• Why is [date] + [time] non-deterministic in SQL Server 2008?

  I'm trying to do the following for my IIS logs table: ALTER TABLE [W3CLog] ADD [LogTime] AS [date] + ([time] - '1900-01-01') PERSISTED However, SQL Server 2008 tells me: Computed column 'LogTime' in table 'W3CLog' cannot be persisted because the column is non-deterministic. The table has this definition: CREATE TABLE [dbo].[W3CLog]( [Id] [bigint] IDENTITY(1,1) NOT NULL, ... [date] [datetime] NULL, [time] [datetime] NULL, ... ) Why is that non-deterministic? I really need to index that field. The table currently has 1598170 rows, and it is a pain to query if we can't do an index seek on the full time. Since this is being UNION'd with some other log formats, we can't very easily just use the two columns separately.

• SqlCE Flush Interval - Will the default setting lead to corruption?

  SqlCE has a parameter set on the Connect String called Flush Interval. It is defined as: The interval time (in seconds) before all committed transactions are flushed to disk. If not specified, the default value is 10. I thought that a committed transaction, by definition, is a transaction that has been flushed to disk, specifically the database file. If a transaction is only stored in RAM then cannot the transaction be easily lost? I thought that transactions were first written to a log file and then applied to the database file itself, so perhaps this parameter could mean the time to wait until the transaction log is applied to the database file? I would have thought that this parameter should be 0.

• Ojective C Class or struct?

  I have a class Song with properties Title, Key, Artist, etc. There are no methods. I loop through a database of song information and create a Song object for each, populating the properties, and then store the Song objects in an NSArray. Then I thought, why not just have a struct Song with all those same properties instead of a class Song. Doing so would eliminate the class files, the #import Song line in the using class's .m file, and the need to alloc, init, release. On the other hand, I'd have to put the struct definition in every class that might need it. (Unless there's some globally accessible location -- is there?) Also, can a struct be stored in an NSArray?

  I was today asked in an interview over the Thread concepts in JAVA? The Questions were... What is a thread? Why do we go for threading? A real time example over the threads. Can we create threads in Spring framework service class. Can flex call a thread? I did not answer any questions apart from definition of Thread, that too i just learnt from internet. • C# Why does calling an interface member from a class generate an error?

  So I have an interface: interface IFoo { int Bar(); int this[int i] {get; set;} } And a class that derives from it class Foo : IFoo { public int IFoo.Bar() { //Implementation { public int IFoo.this[int i] { //Implementation } } Now, I try to do this: var fooey = new Foo(); int i = Fooey.Bar(); or this: int i = Fooey[4]; I would expect these to work properly. However, the compiler generates an error as if such members don't exist. Why is that? I am aware I can cast Foo as IFoo, but I am also aware that casting is costly to performance, which is often the reason to use interfaces in the first place. EDIT 1: These are the errors generated 'Foo' does not contain a definition for 'Bar' and no extension method 'Bar' accepting a first argument of type 'Foo' could be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?) "Cannot apply indexing to an expression of type 'Foo'"

• C# Possible to partial class "program" class for a console application?

  I was wondering if its possible to change the default "program" class that gets created for any console application to a partial class. I want to do this because I want better organisation rather than have all methods in 1 file categorized by region. It would make more sense for me to have certain method categories sitting in separate files. My understanding of a partial class is that it is a class definition in multiple files that during a compile merges the class files into 1 class unit. I could be wrong, or there could be a better way for me to achieve better organisational structure. Any suggestions would help, and thanks

  I am following this article on creating persistent login cookies with my ASP.NET site: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.web.security.formsauthentication.encrypt.aspx The issue is that when I navigate to the page, I get the following compiler error: Compiler Error Message: CS1061: 'ASP.administration_login_aspx' does not contain a definition for 'Login_Click' and no extension method 'Login_Click' accepting a first argument of type 'ASP.administration_login_aspx' could be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?) Can anyone tell me why this is. The error message doesn't really say much and I don't believe I am missing a directive or assembly reference. The code builds without any problems. EDIT: I did not include code because I said I was following that link which includes code. I copy/pasted from the example.

• Button height rendering inconsistency in Firefox - why are input elements taller?

  Consider the following two elements: <button type="submit" class="button">Test</button> <a href="#" class="button">Test 2</a> ...which use the following style definition: .button { background-color: yellow; color: white; border: 1px solid orange; display: inline-block; font-size: 24pt; padding: 2px 16px; text-decoration: none; } This produces two buttons beside each other with an equal height in Chrome. However, Firefox renders the button on the left with a height 1px greater than the button on the right (the <a>): (I've enlarged the image above by 2x.)   recently, while reading former's code in my current project, I encounter the problems below: while implementing the Queue, my former wrote codes like this: while(uq->pHead) { char *tmp = uq->pHead; uq->pHead = *(char **)tmp; //... } the uq-pHead has definition like: typedef struct { char* pHead; //... } Queue; Well, I'm quite confused about the usage that "uq->pHead = *(char**)tmp" , could anyone explain it to me in detail? if we assume that *(uq-pHead) = 32(i.e. ' ') , *(char**)tmp would translate this into pointer-form, but...how could it make sense? • Cant handle it (jQuery hanlder understanding needed)

  I'm embarrassed to even ask BUT could someone help me understand what a "handler" is. I am new to jQuery and the API constantly has references similar to the following: toggle( handler(eventObject), handler(eventObject), [ handler(eventObject) ] ) I scratch my head and say to myself "what the hell is a handler". Then I check my 2 jquery books and don't really see anything specific there. I get what an event handler does, it handles an event. But the word handler in the above context confuses me including "eventObject". I tried to google it but could not really find a really clear definition of what exactly a handler is as it relates to jquery. Thanks for your help =]

• How to learn programming language (syntax rules, etc.) and remember easily? [closed]

  I'm new to programming, and I always have a so call difficulty, that is, I always tend to forget the thing (syntax, rules, name, definition or anyting) of a programming language I've learnt. And I personally do feel that the way I learn it is wrong. Here is my method. Everyday I will spend approximately 1 or 2 hours on a programming e-book. I just follow the syllabus and teaching inside the books, of course I have try to code myself, alter the code inside the book, and did the exercises available. But everytime right after I finish a chapter and advanced myself to third or fourth chapter, I will forgot something I learnt in the first chapter. Is it the method I use wrong? Does learning through reading and coding not enough? Do I need to everytime make a small note (mind map for example) of things I've learnt by hand writing? Or do I sometime need to try coding using a pencil and a book, but not a computer?

• Extra line breaks inserted in MrEd text%

  In a DrScheme project, I'm using a MrEd editor-canvas% with text% and inserting a string from a literal in a Scheme file. This results in an extra blank line in the editor for each line of text I'm trying to insert. Is this a Windows vs. Unix linebreak problem?   I'm trying to send an IPP print job using the ipptool. Using the sample .test files, I can send commands to the printer, but I am unable to successfully use the print-job.test file. Here's an example using ipptool. c:\...>ipptool -v ipp://name.local.:631/ipp/printer print-job.test ipptool: Filename "$filename" on line 21 cannot be read. ipptool: Filename mapped to "". It looks like it's failing resolving the variable $filename within the test file so I attempted to hardcode this value in the test file. In this case I get no error, but still no print. Does anybody have any experience using ipptool to test ipp printing?

• Cannot set ILMerge path to console

  I install ILMerge.exe; path is C:\Program Files\Microsoft\ILMerge\ILMerge.exe. I want to set the command to the Path so I can type ilmerge anywhere to use the application. • Logs show failed password for invalid user root from <IP Address> port 2924 ssh2

  I'm getting a constant flow of these messages in my logs. The port is variable (seemingly between 1024 and 65535). I can simulate it myself by running sftp root@<my ip> I've commented out the sftp subsystem line in my sshd_config. These ports should be closed by provider's firewall. I don't understand: Why sftp would be selecting a random port like that. It seems to be behaving like FTP in passive mode, but I can't make any sense of why that would be. Why it can even hit my server in the first place if these ports are closed.

• Accessing Squid Proxy over internet

  Hi, I recently finished installing Squid on a VPS I have in the US and its working fine locally (I verified by setting http_proxy variable and using lynx). I want to access this proxy over the internet (as an anonymizer) so that I can see how some ads show up for US traffic on my website. I have setup authentication so abuse is not a problem. However, I am not able to access the proxy over the internet. I have set the following rule in squid.conf http_access allow all Is this not possible to do what I want or I am missing something? The port 3128 is open in the firewall so that is not an issue. Squid is running on 0.0.0.0 Thanks Prateek
