I am trying to change the task bar color of my WIndows 7 to black.. something similar to Vista. Is it possible without installing any 3rd party app? Many thanks!!
Hi, does anyone know that what is the shortcut of playing next track for iTunes on Windows 7?
I am using iTunes but I want to do this when iTunes is not on the screen, I want to change track when iTunes is minimized. I have keys on my keyboard (Logitech Mx3200) for this job but I want to change them and it needs key combinations for this.
I have a number of scheduled tasks which simply open a web page in Windows Server 2008 R2. They used to run and end without abending, but now they open and stay open and I have to setup the task to quit them by force before their next scheduled run. I've thought about installing CURL or WGET, but is there a way to do this with R2 without going to that step?
Regards.
I noticed that if I transfer a few LARGE files between two hard drives, it's pretty speedy around at least 30 MB per second but if I transfer thousands of files less than 5 KB, it is pretty damn too slow.. around 1 to 2 MB per second.
Is there a way to speed up the copy/paste process with thousands of small files on Windows 7?
RE:
Putting this out there in case someone else runs into this issue. The intel chipset is on-board. I discovered the reason for the crappy resolution in windows 7 was that the memory to share with the video card was set to 1MB in the BIOS. I changed this to 8MB (the maximum) and then the PC rebooted I was able to select a higher resolution.

I've got a 80Gb hard disk and I want to transfer the system to another 500Gb hd (without to reinstall windows).
What the easy and free way to transfer the system to another hd?
Any commercial or free software to give me a list and descriptions of patch uninstalls and let me remove selected ones?
I've tried Windows XP Update Remover, but seems it doesn't provide any information for majority of items and I have to delete one by one...
I also know I can do it manually, but just wondering if there is more professional software to make it more accurate and quick.
Hello, I am using visual studio 2010 on Windows 7 64bit.
I compiled and ran a simple application basically a thing a child could make. Well the second it started to run, it froze my computer and rendered it unresponsive. It continues to do this every time and for every application.
Any ideas why this is happening?
Many tools raise a common Windows XP file chooser dialog. This dialog offers various views: Thumbnails, Tiles, Icons, List, Details.
By default, I always get the List view, however, I almost always want the Details view.
Is there a way to make Details the default view for this dialog across all my applications?
Device manager shows that device is properly installed:
High Definition Audio Device
Device type: Sound, video and game controllers
Manufacter: Microsoft
Location: Location 0 (Internal High Definition Audio Bus)
But every program trying to play sound reports that devicce is unavailable. In Windows XP it works properly.
I've made a script that will set an environment variable to the path in the current Explorer windows when its hotkey is pressed. However, I want this to only trigger if the active window is an Explorer window. This should do it:
#IfWinActive ahk_class ExploreWClass|CabinetWClass
#p::
SetPath()
return
#IfWinActive
But for some reason it isn't. Is there something I'm doing wrong?
I'd like to make a backup/image of my machine, so that I may install it if i ever need to.
What I mean by image is a snapshot of all of my programs, settings, files, everything, i think this is referred to as a ghost image.
I want to be able to restore so I do not have to reinstall everything again.
Does the backup/restore utility in Windows Server 2008 R2 do this?
Is there a way to change the size of the Windows 7 Taskbar? Internal or with the help of outside programs, both welcome. Something like the MacOS X Doc Zooming effect would be OK/nice, too.
Edit:
I'm essentially looking for a way to shrink it, because my laptop does not have a big screen so every pixel is valueable.
Hi All, Im on the hunt for a decent FTP client for windows. Im looking for something that works in a similar way to transmit for mac.
Features im looking for ideally would be the ability to synchronize files between local and server, and most interestingly, to mount an ftp server as a seperate drive.
I know i can get individual programs to do each if those, but im looking for an all in one solution... Any ideas?
Hello,
I'm looking for a way to make the popup toolbar menus on Windows XP's taskbar stay in place while you edit it, and only close when you tell it to--by clicking outside it, for example. Right now it disappears after each editing action--such as renaming a file or changing its position on the menu, and you have to click the again to pop the menu back up to do more editing. Any suggestions on this issue would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
NT
I have a production server with it's cpu's running excessively high. Except in critical circumstances nobody is allowed to logon to servers during non maintenance times. I am looking for an application I can use to look at the processes on the remote server which include CPU % usage. An application like top. Windows native tasklist.exe doesn't show percentage, nor does sysinternals pslist.exe. Suggestions?
Where are they? I've seen and used a few, but most of them either look awful or behave badly.
Are there any useful add-ons that you would recommend that work and integrate well into Windows Media Center?
Yes, I could go to the green button and sift through hundreds of add-ons. I'm looking for the cream of the crop.
There are times when instead of scrolling vertically in file explorer I accidentally move a folder to within another folder. Great! It happens so quick I don't know which folder was moved and this means I just screwed up an application installation.
Is there a way to undo this operation? Or someway to disable moving of folders by default?
Using Windows 7.
Is it possible to setup one single machine with Windows 7 x64 OS and somehow make it work as if it's part of a certain domain? So domain controller would be simulated in some way? I would like to avoid VMs and make it actually work on one machine with non server OS.
Is there even a simpler way of doing it?
Why: I have to setup development environment for Sharepoint 2010 and it will make my life much easier if my machine would be part of a domain.
It seemed quite strange.
I have a share folder with full read/write permission on my Windows 2003 server. With a XP client, I can create a new folder on the share folder, and I can copy files to it normally, but I can not copy these files back to my client PC. I tried use ftp,and webdav to get the files from server. None of them worked. Is the issue related with NETWORK SERVICE?
Thanks for your help.
I've just got a new Laptop. I've installed all applications I need, for now. Are there any best practices or tips on how to keep my windows machine clean and running smoothly? Or do I have to re-install everything every 6 months?
We just installed a Windows 2008 Enterprise server and I'm having a problem joining the domain. We're running Ubuntu Server, OpenLdap with Samba shares.
Does anyone know of reference material where I can find information about getting this server to properly join our domain.
I've tried googling various boolean searches with poor results.
I'd like to edit PDF files while running on Windows. What is the best package to get this for free (either freeware or opensource, not trial/shareware)?
