  • How can I add a function reference to an object literal

    - by rob
    I need to add binders to DOM elements after rendering is done. Therefore I want to pass a list with (ID, callback) tuples to the rendering function so it can bind it after the rendering is done. So i would like to create a list of such objects and pass it to the rendering function: {id:'#someDOMelement', callback: someObject.someFunction} and bind it after the rendering like this: $(binders[i].id).bind('click', binders[i].callback);

  • Have to put files in static_dir but need to read them afterwards

    - by SanjamX
    I just started using google app engine. In order to use templates, I'm using jinja2. I want to add images dynamically after I set the width and height of the img tag. I used PIL in order to read the image size and put the one I want. However when I open the image with PIL, I need it not to be in a static_dir and to put the image in the img tag, I need it to be in the static_dir. As a testing solution I've copied the folder to see if I get results and I did. But as you can see having each image saved twice is kind of bad.

  • Maximizing the current window in javascript

    - by user349134
    Is there a way I can maximize a currently minimized window from Javascript? Here's my situation: I have a series of links that all target the same external window (e.g. "MyNewWindow"). When I click a link, a new window pops up. If I click another link, the page pops up in the same window as expected. If I minimize the "MyNewWindow" popup, I'd like to be able to click another link and have that window maximize. My approach was to put something on the onLoad part of the body so that when the page is refreshed it will automatically "maximize" if it is minimized. Note: Using window.MoveTo() and window.resizeTo() doesnt seem to do the trick (the window stays minimized). Thanks!

  • Help with AJAX, Using PHP and hiding elements.

    - by ryan
    Hey, This is my first time with AJAX, so I'm a bit confused and need your help. I have four div id's and want to toggle hide/show between them based on result from database. Sounds simple, eh! But it is hard to implement for me. HELP!. This is my code - <div id="1">HEya</div> <div id="2">What's up?</div> <input type="submit" id='approve' name="action" value="Approve" onclick="a()" class="approve" /> <input type="submit" id='reject' value="Reject" name="action" onclick="r()" class="reject"/> <script language="javascript" type="text/javascript"> //if cookie exists, at the beginning the form should be hidden if (<?php $responseanswer['response']=='approve'; ?> ){ document.getElementById('1').style.display = 'none'; document.getElementById('2').style.display = 'inline'; } //if user clicks reject, hide one element dislay another else if (<?php $responseanswer['response']=='reject'; ?>){ //if cookie exists document.getElementById('2').style.display = 'none'; document.getElementById('1').style.display = 'block'; } else { function a() { var a = document.getElementById('2'); document.getElementById('1').style.display= 'block'; } //on reject creating a new cookie function r() { var a = document.getElementById('reject'); document.getElementById('1').style.display = 'none'; document.getElementById('2').style.display= 'block'; } } </script> Eveything is fine, but the div is not hiding.

  • Javascript Alert Return value / Event

    - by Chris
    Hey, The question is pretty simple, but i'm not the big AJAX/JS coder, so I have no clue if it's possible. Is there any way that I can check whether or not an alert() was executed on a remote site? Like if I inputted an alert("Welcome to this site"); through a get variable, is there any way to check if it that alert() was actually executed in the browser? And not necessarily through AJAX/JS.

  • Self organizing layouts

    - by user613326
    Quite a while ago i was more in websites building then i am now. In my time there where huge debates about what to use; tables or pure CSS alternatives. I went out of the webdesigning, but now an old question re-surfaces. What i would like to create is a web page design that depending on screensize, would self organize the page into columns, so that for example on a PDA it would show 1 column On an old computer monitor, it would show 2 colomns, and on a widescreen laptop it would show 3 columns. I forgot how this was called and how it was done in the past, it had to do with XML and storing data seperate from design (if i remember well), perhaps these days better methods exist to do that, does this, anyone ring this a bell ? Also i note a lot is possible with Jquery and and brouwser depending webkits. But i need to make sure that it would run on all (modern) brouwsers : Iexplorer, Firefox, chrome And Jquery is nice too, but i am kinda woried that some day one of these brouwser vendors decides that jscript like java isnt enabled by default (or is that very unlikely ?)11 Perhaps someone can point me to a method that is the prefered way to do this.

  • Escaping and unescaping a string with single and double quotes in Javascript

    - by Reina
    I have a search box that a user can search for any string including single AND double quotes, once they have searched, the backend is passing the keyword back to me so I can put it back in the box. I don't know what the string is so I can't escape quotes myself, below is an example: var keyword = "hello"; $("#selectionkeywords").val(); The issue I am having is that if the user enters "hello" the keyword becomes ""hello"" and I get this error: missing ) after argument list [Break On This Error] jQuery("#selectionkeywords").val(""hello""); The user could also enter single quotes so that rules it out as well. I tried using escape unescape but I still have the same issue e.g. escape(""hello"") I could get the value in an unescaped format e.g. "hello" but I don't know what to do with it, escape doesn't work on it I end up with this %26%23034%3Bhello%26%23034%3B So I'm pretty much stuck at the moment as I can't do anything to the string, any ideas?

  • Question regarding the use of iframes in Safari and Chrome's startup pages

    - by Wesley
    If you have ever used a new release of either Chrome or Safari, you know that when you add a new tab, the default screen is a grid like setup with your most favorite links sitting there waiting to be clicked on. What makes it even nicer is the graphical interface, with actual pictures of the websites they are representing. I am looking to do something similar, how is it done? Are they simply iframes? iframes set with css? If anyone has any knowledge about the actual implementation of this seemingly simple festure, please share!! Thanks

  • Custom link on embedded youtube video

    - by 0plus1
    I'm looking to direct the user on the channell webpage instead of the video url that I'm embedding. I've read the api and I didn't see any way to achieve this. I tried enclosing the embedded video in a and I added this code: $('#youtube').click(function() { document.write('http://www.youtube.com/user/trasportareoggi'); return false; }); And surprise it won't work. How, if it's even possible I can do this?

  • CSS - Overlapping divs

    - by Jens Törnell
    I have no code to start with. I want to add 2 divs overlapping on each other and then use the new CSS3 Rotate function. The effect I want to create is shown on this page Requirements I don't want to use images I don't mind using CSS3 It should be easy to align the whole thing in the center (which makes it harder to use position: absolute;). It's going to be content below the boxed content (which makes it harder to use position: absolute;). If it's possible without too much position: absolute; it's better. I prefer table free solutions. Have fun!

  • "text-overflow: ellipsis" not working well in firefox with floating element around

    - by Freedom
    see jsfiddle: http://jsfiddle.net/9v8faLeh/1/ I have two elements .text and .badge in a .container with a limit width: <div class="container"> <span class="badge">(*)</span> <span class="text">this is a long long long long text.</span> </div> the .badge element may not exist in a .container according to the data. if a .badge exist, I want the .badge element to float to right. and if the .text is too long, the text should ellipsis. .container { width: 150px; border: 1px solid; padding: 5px; white-space: nowrap; text-overflow: ellipsis; overflow: hidden; } .badge { float: right; margin-left: 5px; } if you open the jsfiddle link in Chrome or IE, it displays correctly as my expectation. but if open in Firefox, the .text and .badge are overlay if the text is so long. I don't want to use any JavaScript. how can I achieve the same result in FireFox?

  • js function causing all other functions not to work inside js file

    - by Camran
    In safari 4 and all explorer browsers, whenever I try to call a function inside a javascript file which contains this function below, that first function isn't called. So calling function1 will not work if function2 is inside the same .js file, explanation? Here is the code which makes the problem. Whenever I remove this function, everything works fine and all functions work fine. So this function is causing a problem. function addOption(selectbox, value, text, class, id_nr ) { var optn = document.createElement("OPTION"); optn.text = text; optn.value = value; optn.id = value; if (class==1){ optn.className = "nav_option_main"; } selectbox.options.add(optn); } Any ideas why? Thanks
