  • How to implement "drag n drop" user interface on website?

    - by Nikkeloodeni
    Hello, I was wondering what would be the best way to implement some kind of "drag n drop" user interface? What i mean is that there would be one main page and every link click (eg. other sections like about, gallery, contact form) would open a new drag n drop element on top of that main page. Something like windows desktop where you can move your application windows around the screen. Would it be best to call different functions with AJAX when a link is clicked? Like "gallery" link would call gallery-function and retrieve dynamically generated contents of that "window" with AJAX call and then just load that stuff on some div? Or would some other type of approach suit better for this? I hope I was able to explain this clearly enough. I'm looking for a proper "design pattern" to implement this. All suggestions are wellcome! :)

  • What is the lightest way to make a huge chess-like grid?

    - by Sotkra
    Hey there I'm working on a browser-game and I can't help but wonder about what's the lightest way to make the grid/board on which the game takes place. Right now, as a mere sample, I'll show you this: http://sotkra.com/game/ Now, as the grid gets bigger and bigger, the table and its td's create a very heavy filepage which in turn...sucks in more resources from the browser engine and computer. So, is a table with td's the most lightweight way to craft a huge grid-like board or is there something lighter that you recommend? Cheers Sotkra

  • I get NaN when I try to insert some HTML into a DIV element with jQuery

    - by Ankur
    I am tring to display a text box when a element of class numObj is clicked. For some reason I get NaNNaNaNaNNaNNaNaNaN where I expect to the see the result of the searchForm variable in the code below. I know that NaN stands for Not a Number. What I don't understand is why is Javascript expecting a number? I can't understand why it cares. $(".numObj").live('click',function(){ var preId = $(this).attr('preId'); var arrayPos = $(this).attr('numArrayPos'); alert(preId +" "+arrayPos); var searchForm = "<table border='0' cellspacing='0' cellpadding='4' id='add-tag2'>"+ +"<tr class='normal'><td bgcolor='#EEEEEE' valign='bottom' nowrap='nowrap'><span class='normal-small'>"+ +"<input name='predicate-name2' type='text' class='normal' id='predicate-name2' size='4' />"+ +"</span></td>"+ +"<td bgcolor='#EEEEEE' valign='bottom' nowrap='nowrap'><span class='normal-small'>&lt;=</span></td>"+ +"<td bgcolor='#EEEEEE' valign='bottom' nowrap='nowrap'>x</td>"+ +"<td valign='bottom' bgcolor='#EEEEEE'>&lt;=</td>"+ +"<td valign='bottom' bgcolor='#EEEEEE'><span class='normal-small'>"+ +"<input type='text' name='object-object2' id='object-object2' class='normal' size='4' />"+ +"</span></td>"+ +"</tr>"+ +"</table>"; $(".numObj").filter("[preId='"+preId+"']").filter("[numArrayPos='"+arrayPos+"']").html(searchForm); }); The generated code that has the numObj class looks something like this <td><div class="numObj" preid="73" numarraypos="5"><span class="normal">585.0</span></div></td>

  • Ordered List (ol) showing up un-numbered?

    - by Abs
    Hello all, I have an ordered list (ol) on my page but the numbering is not showing up at all! I have done this: <ol> <li>my text</li> <li>my text</li> <li>my text</li> </ol> As I have typed the above, stackoverflow was able to render it correctly the way I wanted it to, like so: my text my text my text However, this is not happening on my webpage. I am viewing this in Firefox on my localhost. If any knows why my ol's look like ul's (i.e. no numbering) I would be grateful for help. If not, please let me know how I can achieve a numbered list using ul's. Thanks all

  • jQuery toggle menu dropdown

    - by Seong Lee
    I am working on a menu navigation that has parent horizontal bar as static and a vertical accordion child menu that interacts with the parent. I have them working fine except one part where I want to toggle show() and hide() child menu when clicked on the same parent menu item. I've looked at toggle() jQuery API but couldn't get it working properly. The following is only a script for parent part which I got rid of toggle() for now. $(function () { $('#mainMenu > ul > li > a').click(function () { $('#mainMenu li').removeClass('active'); $(this).closest('li').addClass('active'); if ($(this).text() == "1st click") { $('#subMenu > ul').siblings().hide(); $('#subMenu > ul:nth-child(1)').show(); } else if ($(this).text() == "2nd click") { $('#subMenu > ul').siblings().hide(); $('#subMenu > ul:nth-child(2)').show(); } }); }); The Full code that isolates the problem is available here

  • JavaScript: List global variables in IE

    - by Quandary
    I'm trying to get the instance name of my class. The way I do this is I loop through all global objects and compare it with the this pointer. It works in Chrome and FF, but in IE, it doesn't. The problem seems to be the global variables don't seem to be in window. How can I loop through the global variables in IE ? PS: I know it only works as long as there is only one instance, and I don't want to pass the instance's name as a parameter. function myClass() { this.myName = function () { // search through the global object for a name that resolves to this object for (var name in this.global) { if (this.global[name] == this) return name } } } function myClass_chrome() { this.myName = function () { // search through the global object for a name that resolves to this object for (var name in window) { if (window[name] == this) return name ; } } ; } // store the global object, which can be referred to as this at the top level, in a // property on our prototype, so we can refer to it in our object's methods myClass.prototype.global = this //myClass_IE.prototype.global = this // create a global variable referring to an object // var myVar = new myClass() var myVar = new myClass_chrome() //var myVar = new myClass_IE() alert(myVar.myName() );// returns "myVar"

  • Style Problem with Repeater Inside a Datalist

    - by Jepe d Hepe
    i've used a DataList (dlparent) control for one of my page. Inside that datalist is another Datalist (dlchild) that is being populated by itemdatabound event of the parent datalist. i've used css with dlchild. Databinding is ok and the required output shows great with mozilla and IE but not in netscape, safari and google chrome. dlchild is not showing. only item in dlparent appears. Here's the markup for the dlparent: <asp:DataList ID="SprintsWorkData" Style="float: left; padding-top: 10px;" runat="server" OnItemDataBound="SprintsWorkData_ItemDataBound"> <ItemTemplate> <asp:HiddenField ID="hiddenSprintId" runat="server" Value='<%# Eval("SprintId") %>' /> <div id="SprintNameSection"> <h4> <%# Eval("SprintName") %></h4> </div> <div id="HeaderSection_SelectAll"> <div style="padding-top: 3px; height: 23px; padding-left: 2px;"> <asp:CheckBox ID="isAllCheck" runat="server" onclick="checkAll(this)" /> <b> <asp:Label ID="sAll" Style="color: Black; text-indent: 1px;" Text="Select All" runat="server"></asp:Label> </b> </div> </div> <div class="HeaderSection_WorkedHours"> <b><asp:Literal ID="workedHours" runat="server" Text='<%$ Resources:LanguagePack, Worked_Hours %>'></asp:Literal></b></div> <div class="HeaderSection_BillableHours"> <b><asp:Literal ID="billableHours" runat="server" Text='<%$ Resources:LanguagePack, Billable_Hours %>'></asp:Literal></b></div> <div class="HeaderSection_Comments"> <b><asp:Literal ID="comments" runat="server" Text='<%$ Resources:LanguagePack, Comments %>'></asp:Literal></b></div> <asp:DataList ID="HoursWorkData" runat="server"> <ItemTemplate> <asp:HiddenField ID="hiddenTaskId" runat="server" Value='<%# Eval("BacklogId") %>' /> <div id="ItemSection_Task_Header"> <div style="vertical-align: middle; padding-bottom: 2px; padding-left: 2px; height: 18px;"> <asp:CheckBox ID="checkboxSub" runat="server" onclick="checkAllSub(this)" /> <b style="text-indent: 1px;"> <%# Eval("Title") %></b> </div> </div> <div id="ItemSection_WorkedHours_Header"> <%# Eval("WorkedHours")%>&nbsp;</div> <div id="ItemSection_BillableHours_Header"> <asp:Label ID="lblBillableHours_Header" Text='<%# Eval("BillableHours")%>' runat="server"></asp:Label>&nbsp;</div> <div id="ItemSection_Comments_Header"> </div> <asp:Repeater ID="repResourcesList" runat="server"> <ItemTemplate> <asp:HiddenField ID="hiddenReportId1" runat="server" Value='<%# Eval("ReportId") %>' /> <div id="ItemSection_Task_Item"> <div style="vertical-align: middle; padding-bottom: 5px; padding-left: 2px; padding-top: 1px; height: 14px;"> <asp:CheckBox ID="CB" runat="server" onclick="checkItem(this)" /> <b style="text-indent: 1px;"> <%# Eval("EnteredbyName") %></b> </div> </div> <div id="ItemSection_WorkedHours_Item"> <asp:Label ID="lblWorkedHours_Item" Text='<%# Eval("WorkedHours")%>' runat="server"></asp:Label>&nbsp;</div> <div id="ItemSection_BillableHours_Item"> <asp:RegularExpressionValidator ValidationGroup="ApproveBillable" ID="RegularExpressionValidator1" runat="server" ErrorMessage="*" ValidationExpression="^(-)?\d+(\.\d\d)?$" ControlToValidate="txtBillableHours" Style="position: absolute;">*</asp:RegularExpressionValidator> <asp:TextBox ID="txtBillableHours" Style="text-align: right" runat="server" Font-Size="12px" Width="50px" Text='<%# Eval("BillableHours") %>'></asp:TextBox> </div> <div id="ItemSection_Comments_Item"> <asp:TextBox ID="txtComments" Font-Size="12px" Width="93px" runat="server" Text='<%# Eval("Comment") %>'></asp:TextBox> </div> </ItemTemplate> </asp:Repeater> </ItemTemplate> <ItemStyle Height="24px" /> <SeparatorTemplate> <div id="divSeparator"> </div> </SeparatorTemplate> <FooterTemplate> <div id="Footer1"> TOTAL HOURS &nbsp; </div> <div id="Footer_WorkedHours"> <asp:Label ID="lblWorkedHours" runat="server" Text="0.00" Font-Size="12px" ForeColor="White"></asp:Label>&nbsp; </div> <div id="Footer_BillableHours"> <asp:Label ID="lblBillableHours_Footer" runat="server" Text="0.00" Font-Size="12px" ForeColor="White"></asp:Label>&nbsp; </div> <div id="Footer_Comments"> </div> </FooterTemplate> </asp:DataList> </ItemTemplate> <SeparatorTemplate> &nbsp; </SeparatorTemplate> </asp:DataList> What might be the problem?

  • How do I get more separation between the end of the 1st div and the start of the 2nd div?

    - by user3075987
    I'm trying to get the 2nd div (the picture of the orange and copy) to go below the 1st div (the picture of the pear and copy), but see how the Orange copy is going up into the Pear copy. How can I have the Orange copy start below the Pear picture? Here's my jsfiddle: http://jsfiddle.net/huskydawgs/g8mbgr1e/4/ Here's my code: <div class="alignleft"> <p><img alt="Pear" src="http://eofdreams.com/data_images/dreams/pear/pear-01.jpg" width="144" height="150" /></p> The pear is native to coastal and mildly temperate regions of the Old World, from western Europe and north Africa east right across Asia. It is a medium-sized tree, reaching 10–17 metres (33–56 ft) tall, often with a tall, narrow crown; a few species are shrubby. The fruit is composed of the receptacle or upper end of the flower-stalk (the so-called calyx tube) greatly dilated. Enclosed within its cellular flesh is the true fruit: five cartilaginous carpels, known colloquially as the "core". From the upper rim of the receptacle are given off the five sepals[vague], the five petals, and the very numerous stamens. In ancient Egypt, artists used an orange mineral pigment called realgar for tomb paintings, as well as other uses. It was also used later by Medieval artists for the colouring of manuscripts. Pigments were also made in ancient times from a mineral known as orpiment. Orpiment was an important item of trade in the Roman Empire and was used as a medicine in China although it contains arsenic and is highly toxic. It was also used as a fly poison and to poison arrows. Because of its yellow-orange colour, it was also a favourite with alchemists searching for a way to make gold, both in China and the West. The pineapple is a herbaceous perennial which grows to 1.0 to 1.5 meters (3.3 to 4.9 ft) tall, although sometimes it can be taller. In appearance, the plant itself has a short, stocky stem with tough, waxy leaves. When creating its fruit, it usually produces up to 200 flowers, although some large-fruited cultivars can exceed this. Once it flowers, the individual fruits of the flowers join together to create what is commonly referred to as a pineapple. After the first fruit is produced, side shoots (called 'suckers' by commercial growers) are produced in the leaf axils of the main stem. These may be removed for propagation, or left to produce additional fruits on the original plant.[4] Commercially, suckers that appear around the base are cultivated. It has 30 or more long, narrow, fleshy, trough-shaped leaves with sharp spines along the margins that are 30 to 100 centimeters (1.0 to 3.3 ft) long, surrounding a thick stem. In the first year of growth, the axis lengthens and thickens, bearing numerous leaves in close spirals. After 12 to 20 months, the stem grows into a spike-like inflorescence up to 15 cm (6 in) long with over 100 spirally arranged, trimerous flowers, each subtended by a bract. Flower colors vary, depending on variety, from lavender, through light purple to red. Here's my CSS: .alignleft { float: left; margin: 0px 30px 20px 0px; } .alignright { float: right; margin: 0px 0px 20px 30px; }

  • Jquery / CSS – addClass to first:p of multiple div with specified class

    - by j-man86
    Hello, I'm using (trying to use) jQuery to add a class to the first paragraph of every div with class of ".djBio" My problem is that it's only adding the class to the first div.djBio, not all divs with that class. Here's the code. I am also using the fancy letter jquery plugin to add the drop cap to the first paragraph (which also is only applying to the first div.djBio, not all) jQuery(function( $ ){ $('.servicesContent p:first, .about-usContent p:first, .djBio p:first').fancyletter().addClass('firstP'); }); Thanks so much for your help!

  • Have to put files in static_dir but need to read them afterwards

    - by SanjamX
    I just started using google app engine. In order to use templates, I'm using jinja2. I want to add images dynamically after I set the width and height of the img tag. I used PIL in order to read the image size and put the one I want. However when I open the image with PIL, I need it not to be in a static_dir and to put the image in the img tag, I need it to be in the static_dir. As a testing solution I've copied the folder to see if I get results and I did. But as you can see having each image saved twice is kind of bad.

  • Selections and radioing - JavaScript

    - by Wayne
    I have a list like this: <ul> <li id="adm-thumb" onclick="javascript:addBanner('bowling.jpg');"> <div class="adm-tick"></div> <img src="img/banners/bowling.jpg" /></li> <li id="adm-thumb" onclick="javascript:addBanner('kcc.jpg');"> <div class="adm-tick"></div> <img src="img/banners/kcc.jpg" /></li> <li id="adm-thumb" onclick="javascript:addBanner('paintballing.png');"> <div class="adm-tick"></div> <img src="img/banners/paintballing.png" /></li> </ul> <input id="bannername" type="text" /> When one item is clicked, the value inside the addBanner() will be added to the input field, however, I want one list to be selected (which is done by css to make it look like it has) when it is equal to the value of the input value. If the value is equals to the value in the addBanner value then the clicked item should have a red background. e.g. function addBanner(label) { var Field = document.getElementById('bannername'); Field.value = label; if(Field.value != label) { // I have no idea what to put here } } Something like a div button that acts like a radio button.

  • print friendly version of floated list

    - by Brad
    I have a list of phone extensions that I want to print a friendly version of it. I have a print css for it to print appropriately onto paper, the extensions are located within an unordered list, which are floated to the left. <ul> <li>Larry Hughes <span class="ext">8291</span></li> <li>Chuck Davis <span class="ext">3141</span></li> <li>Kevin Skillis <span class="ext">5115</span></li> </ul> I float it left, and when it prints the second page, it leaves off the name part of the list (in Firefox, works fine in Google Chrome and IE), see here: http://cl.ly/de965aea63f66c13ba32 I am referring to this: http://www.alistapart.com/articles/goingtoprint/ - they mentioned something about applying a float:none; to the content part of the page. If I do that, how should I go about making the list show up in 4 columns? It is a dynamic list, pulled from a database. Any help is appreciated.

  • Multiple stylesheets for a Lightbox clone.

    - by Neurofluxation
    Hey! I have a Lightbox clone (colorbox), which works fine and has no real issues. What I would like is an extra arguement that would say: [pseudocode] if (linksRel == "lightbox1") { add stylesheet1 to this lightbox } else { add stylesheet2 to this lightbox } [/pseudocode] Currently, I have a page with a "colorbox.css" file attached and the" jquery.colorbox.js" file as well - But I want the JS file to import the required CSS dependant on what link was clicked... Urgh, does that make sense? Does anyone have any ideas? I'm stumped!

  • CSS Drop Down Menu

    - by cvandal
    I'm trying to make a simple CSS drop down menu that when you mouse over a link, the sub menu appears. I've managed to achieve this when you mouse over an li but can't figure out how to do it using a link. The reason why I'm trying to do this using a link rather than the li is that my menu width is 100% and the li spans a greater area than the link so if you mouse over that area, the sub menu appears when you don't want it to. My CSS is as follows: .menu { border: solid 1px red; font-size: 5em; font-family: 'Raleway', arial, serif; } .menu ul { } .menu ul.children { display: none; } .menu ul li { margin: 20px 0 10px 0; } .menu ul li:hover ul.children { display: block; position: absolute; } .menu ul li a { padding: 10px 10px 0 40px; background: rgba(0,0,0,0.5); color: #fff; text-decoration: none; }

  • jQuery noob: change border color of element on hover of another element.

    I'd try to explain what I mean, but there is an easier way: click here for jsfiddle example. Basically I want the border color of the div rfrsh_btn to change when productOptionsMenu is hovered over. I'm using jQuery with the .noConflict var because this site also uses Prototype. jQuery: var $j = jQuery.noConflict(); $j(".productOptionsMenu").hover( function () { $j(#rfrsh_btn).css({"border-color":"#85c222"}); }; ); Thanks :)
