  • What's best practice to check if an object is part of a ManyToMany relationship in Django

    - by PhilGo20
from an instance of Site with a ManyToMany relationship to Kiosk, i'd like to check if a Kiosk object is part of the relationship. I could do self.apps.get(id=app_id).exists() and check if True or self.apps.get(id=app_id) and catch the ObjectDoesNotExist error or self.apps.filter(id=app_id) and check if True If I have to catch a possible ObjectDoesNotExist error, I may as well use the second one I can do the second but doesnt seem super clean can use the third one but using filter on a unique ID seems wrong to me You can tell me to use whatever works and that'll be a valid answer ;-)

  • Are iframes a terrible idea?

    - by jamtoday
I'm building a widget, and I've been using iframes to present content within it. At some point, I might start serving third party HTML and JS, so I thought iframes would be a good idea. It does make the widget javascript a little more complicated, and I'm concerned that this might not be the best implementation. Do you have any advice? It would be a huge help to hear what other people think about iframes.

  • Programmers - I have a question for you.

    - by jens
My boyfriend does coding (Rails/C?/PHP) for a job and I don't know what he would appreciate on our first anniversary. Does anyone have any ideas? Yes, he's stereotypical geek, but I'd rather not give a pack of Bawls for an anniversary gift. He dislikes going anywhere, so "experiences" like going to an event are out. Maybe I should just have a giant LAN party in the house.

  • Handling FormatExceptions using XmlSerializer.Deserialize

    - by qntmfred
I have a third party web service that returns this xml <book> <release_date>0000-00-00</release_date> </book> I am trying to deserialize it into this class public class Book { [XmlElement("release_date")] public DateTime ReleaseDate { get; set; } } But because 0000-00-00 isn't a valid DateTime, I get a FormatException. What's the best way to handle this?

  • Online Flowchart Diagram Tool (run from private wiki)

    - by red.october
Hi, Is there some flowchart diagram tool that would (or could be made to) integrate with a self-hosted wiki? Requirements: basic functionality (e.g., drawing some boxes and some arrows) would strongly prefer it to be visual (i.e., not written out in text that then gets converted) it is important that it can be integrated into the wiki (e.g., as an extra panel somewhere) can be run from a personal server free I've looked around at other threads here concerning a diagram tool, but they are either desktop applications, online ones which reside on third-party servers, or cost money.

  • understanding semcor corpus structure h

    - by Sharmila
    I'm learning NLP. I currently playing with Word Sense Disambiguation. I'm planning to use the semcor corpus as training data but I have trouble understanding the xml structure. I tried googling but did not get any resource describing the content structure of semcor. <s snum="1"> <wf cmd="ignore" pos="DT">The</wf> <wf cmd="done" lemma="group" lexsn="1:03:00::" pn="group" pos="NNP" rdf="group" wnsn="1">Fulton_County_Grand_Jury</wf> <wf cmd="done" lemma="say" lexsn="2:32:00::" pos="VB" wnsn="1">said</wf> <wf cmd="done" lemma="friday" lexsn="1:28:00::" pos="NN" wnsn="1">Friday</wf> <wf cmd="ignore" pos="DT">an</wf> <wf cmd="done" lemma="investigation" lexsn="1:09:00::" pos="NN" wnsn="1">investigation</wf> <wf cmd="ignore" pos="IN">of</wf> <wf cmd="done" lemma="atlanta" lexsn="1:15:00::" pos="NN" wnsn="1">Atlanta</wf> <wf cmd="ignore" pos="POS">'s</wf> <wf cmd="done" lemma="recent" lexsn="5:00:00:past:00" pos="JJ" wnsn="2">recent</wf> <wf cmd="done" lemma="primary_election" lexsn="1:04:00::" pos="NN" wnsn="1">primary_election</wf> <wf cmd="done" lemma="produce" lexsn="2:39:01::" pos="VB" wnsn="4">produced</wf> <punc>``</punc> <wf cmd="ignore" pos="DT">no</wf> <wf cmd="done" lemma="evidence" lexsn="1:09:00::" pos="NN" wnsn="1">evidence</wf> <punc>''</punc> <wf cmd="ignore" pos="IN">that</wf> <wf cmd="ignore" pos="DT">any</wf> <wf cmd="done" lemma="irregularity" lexsn="1:04:00::" pos="NN" wnsn="1">irregularities</wf> <wf cmd="done" lemma="take_place" lexsn="2:30:00::" pos="VB" wnsn="1">took_place</wf> <punc>.</punc> </s> I'm assuming wnsn is 'word sense'. Is it correct? What does the attribute lexsn mean? How does it map to wordnet? What does the attribute pn refer to? (third line) How is the rdf attribute assigned? (again third line) In general, what are the possible attributes?

  • ASP.NET Tab Controls

    - by George Stocker
I'm currently attempting to create a tabbed interface in a web application, and based on my search, there aren't any 'built in' tab controls in ASP.NET. There are some in the ASP.NET AJAX downloadable toolkit, as well as a wealth of 'pay for use' third party Tab Controls. My question is: What Tab control have you used for ASP.NET applications, and why do you use it?

  • XCode code generation

    - by Ali Shafai
I was wondering if there is a tool (automator script or a third party) to generate code for simple scenarios like add another property. I don't like going to two or three places and write the same thing over and over again. instead I want to say "I want a new property of type int with name X" and it generates the lines in .h and .m files for me in one go.

  • Benefits of implementing OAuth

    - by zfranciscus
From a webservice provider point of view what is the benefit of asking users to create an account or login using 3rd party web service provider (e.g: Twitter or facebook) to log into your site with? Wouldn't it be easier to ask the user to provide their twitter or facebook login and use that to pull the user's twitter or facebook data? It is safer to use OAuth than giving some one the internet our twitter or facebook login credential. But, I can't figure out the benefit from the web service point of view.

  • iPhone Twitter Get UserId

    - by Mick Walker
Hi, I am looking for a way to get a twitter users userid via their username. For example take http://twitter.com/AlySSa_miLAno (yes I know her twitter page off by heart lol) on the right hand side of the page is a link to her RSS feed: feed://twitter.com/statuses/user_timeline/26642006.rss In this context Alyssa's userid would be 26642006. Ideally I would like to avoid reading the full content of the page, as this could be quite expensive on a mobile device, so if anyone knows how to accomplish this using any Twitter/3rd party webservices that would be great.

  • Python dealing with dates and times

    - by randombits
I'm looking for a solution to the following: Given today's date, figure out what month was before. So 2 should return for today, since it is currently March, the third month of the year. 12 should return for January. Then based on that, I need to be able to iterate through a directory and find all files that were created that month. Bonus points would include finding the most current file created for the previous month.
