  • MySQL Full-text Search Workaround for innoDB tables

    - by Rob
I'm designing an internal web application that uses MySQL as its backend database. The integrity of the data is crucial, so I am using the innoDB engine for its foreign key constraint features. I want to do a full-text search of one type of records, and that is not supported natively with innoDB tables. I'm not willing to move to MyISAM tables due to their lack of foreign key support and due to the fact that their locking is per table, not per row. Would it be bad practice to create a mirrored table of the records I need to search using the MyISAM engine and use that for the full-text search? This way I'm just searching a copy of the data and if anything happens to that data it's not as big of a deal because it can always be re-created. Or is this an awkward way of doing this that should be avoided? Thanks.

  • Inheriting from List<T> in .NET (vb or C#)

    - by Tony
I have been delved in C++ world for a while, but now I'm in .NET world again, VB and C# and I wondered if you have a class that represents a collection of something, and you want the ability to use this in a foreach loop, etc... is it better to implement IEnumerable and IEnumerator yourself or should you inherit from the List<T> where T is the object type in it's singular form? I know in C++ for example, inheriting from a container is considered a bad idea. But what about .NET.

  • For external links on my webpage, should I use a redirector page or just link direct to the external

    - by AaronM
Hello, just wondering if I should be using a 'redirector' type page or link directly to the external pages on my site http://www.onedaysalefinder.co.nz/ - currently I use a redirector page to track what links are being clicked on (which simply takes an ID, looks up the URL in the database, and then does a Response.Redirect(URL); From a SEO point of view, is this a good idea/bad idea? I understand it can add a few milliseconds extra to the external page load time whilst it looks up the actual URL, but am not too concerned about this. I also get the benefit of tracking the clicks accurately, but are the pros/cons of using a redirector vs the actual link? Am I worrying about something I don't need to? Thanks

  • Add my own RSS reader app on a http://feeds2.feedburner.com/exampleofname "subscribe feed using" lis

    - by user333647
Hello everyone, I'm doing a RSS reader for a University Project. The feed urls have to be added by hand tipically with the copy/paste method, and I don't like this option because is poor for the users. My question is: can I do like in webpage http://feeds2.feedburner.com/microsiervos a list of web applications (Google Reader, Netvibes, etc.). There is a way to do so? I may have to create a firefox addon? I'm quite lost, I think... Thank you very very much, and sorry for my bad english but in this F***ing country that is Spain, there are lots of FIESTA and what you want but null english education... hehehe Byeeee!

  • Flex list-controls - maintain remote data

    - by artemb
Hello. I have a TileList which represents some remote data. I also have a form which allows me to change the data. And the data may be changed by someone else too. What is the best way to maintain data in the list in an up-to-date state? The simplest option I see is the following: Select an item in the list Edit it in the form Save it. The form submits the data to the server When the server reports success the list re-fetches it's data The very bad thing about this workflow is that the list loses selection (a tree would also loose the nodes' expanded/collapsed state). I would really love to find out another option which would enable the list to maintain it's selection state. Any guesses on how it may be done?

  • Python Continue Loop

    - by Rob B.
I am using the following code from this tutorial (http://jeriwieringa.com/blog/2012/11/04/beautiful-soup-tutorial-part-1/). from bs4 import BeautifulSoup soup = BeautifulSoup (open("43rd-congress.html")) final_link = soup.p.a final_link.decompose() trs = soup.find_all('tr') for tr in trs: for link in tr.find_all('a'): fulllink = link.get ('href') print fulllink #print in terminal to verify results tds = tr.find_all("td") try: #we are using "try" because the table is not well formatted. This allows the program to continue after encountering an error. names = str(tds[0].get_text()) # This structure isolate the item by its column in the table and converts it into a string. years = str(tds[1].get_text()) positions = str(tds[2].get_text()) parties = str(tds[3].get_text()) states = str(tds[4].get_text()) congress = tds[5].get_text() except: print "bad tr string" continue #This tells the computer to move on to the next item after it encounters an error print names, years, positions, parties, states, congress However, I get an error saying that 'continue' is not properly in the loop on line 27. I am using notepad++ and windows powershell. How do I make this code work?

  • Select where a value present

    - by Roy
First a database example: id, product_id, cat, name, value -------------------------------- 1,1,Algemeen,Processor,2 Ghz 2,1,Algemeen,Geheugen,4 GB 3,2,Algemeen,Processor,3 Ghz 4,2,Algemeen,Geheugen,4 GB 5,3,Beeldscherm,Inch,22" 6,3,Beeldscherm,Kleur,Zwart 7,3,Algemeen,Geheugen,3 GB 8,3,Algemeen,Processor,3 Ghz I want with one query to select the follow id's: 1,2,3,4,7,8 Because the cat = algemeen and the name = processor by these products. ID 5,6 are only present by product 3. So, the entry's (cat and name) which are present by all products (product_id) have to be selected. The database contains 80.000 entry's with a lot of diffrent cat's, name's and value's. Is this possible with one query or is some php necessary? How do I do this? My apologies for the bad English.

  • django - change content inside an iframe

    - by fabriciols
Hello guys, I have a site running in django and want to make it available on third party sites. In these sites they make my content available through an tag. When my site is requested from within that iframe I would like to modify the content (remove header, filter data, etc.). What would be the best way to do this? Is there any way of knowing that the request is being made from an iframe? Multiples sites will request the same url, can I change the content, based on the requesting site? Thanks! PS: Sorry for my bad english :/

  • C++: Keep track of times function is called.

    - by Brundle
Keeping track of how many times a function is called is easy when passing the counter as an argument into the function. It's also easy when returning a one from the called function. But, I do not want to go that route. The reason behind this is because it seems like bad programming (letting the function know too much information). Is there a better way to keep track of how many times this function has been called? I'm just looking for concepts that I could study. Providing code examples is not neccessary, but might be helpful.

  • jQuery model-view-controller vs Spring MVC

    - by user1515968
my question is what potential problems or difficulties would be with implementing usual web app with somewhat reach user interface (multiple dynamic tabs, accordians and so on) using jQuery MVC approach with Spring REST vs using Spring MVC. Problems what I can think of could be: I will not be able to use Spring security fully, JavaScript coding could become hard to manage, any form verification becomes not easy to manage... what else? and does jQuery MVC with REST make sense at all? On other side jQuery with MVC and REST move all GUI concerns to JavaScript side (whether it is bad or not) and leave all data manipulation to server side.

  • Protect value from changies using reflection?

    - by IordanTanev
Hi, here is the problem case i am writing a little third party library. In this library i have a class like this public class TestClass { public int TestField { get; private set; } public TestClass( ) { TestField = 1; } } Then i have a varialbe form this class like this public TestClass test = new TestClass( ); The problem i am facing is that usnig reflection like this PropertyInfo field = typeof( TestClass ).GetProperty( "TestField" ); field.SetValue( test, 2, null ); programers can change internal value of this class. this will be very bad thing becouse it can crash the hole library. My question is what is the best way to protect my code form such changes.I know i can use some kind of bool flag so tha value can be changed only ones but this is not very good salution is there a better one? • (When) Does hardware, especially the CPU(s), deliver wrong results?

    - by sub
What I'm talking about is: Is it possible that under certain circumstances the CPU "buggs" and suddenly responses 1+1=2? In which parts of the computer can that happen (HDD, RAM, Mainboard)? What could be the causes? Bad quality? Overheating? Does that even happen? When yes, how frequently? If everything is okay with the CPU (not a single fault in production, good temperature), can that still happen sometimes? What would be the results of, let's say one to three wrong computations? This is programming related as it would be nice to know if you can even rely on the hardware to return the right results.

  • Can I use part of MD5 hash for data identification?

    - by sharptooth
I use MD5 hash for identifying files with unknown origin. No attacker here, so I don't care that MD5 has been broken and one can intendedly generate collisions. My problem is I need to provide logging so that different problems are diagnosed easier. If I log every hash as a hex string that's too long, inconvenient and looks ugly, so I'd like to shorten the hash string. Now I know that just taking a small part of a GUID is a very bad idea - GUIDs are designed to be unique, but part of them are not. Is the same true for MD5 - can I take say first 4 bytes of MD5 and assume that I only get collision probability higher due to the reduced number of bytes compared to the original hash?

  • Is there a point creating a site using XSLT

    - by webwise
Is this technology still popular? I want to make a website which automatically transforms XSLT files. It should work like this: When a user accesses the site, a single handler would accept his request and then find a suitable XML for it (according to the URL requested) and transform it using its attached XSL file. I want to do this in order to make it easy to update the site using plain XML files (instead of using a full-fledged & expensive CMS system). What do you say? good idea? bad idea? anyone has a recommendation? Thanks!

  • Does Core Data automatically validate new values when they are set?

    - by mystify
In this question, someone asked how to write a validation method for Core Data. I did that, and it looks cool. But one thing doesn't happen: The validation. I can easily set any "bad" value and this method doesn't get called automatically. What's the concept behind this? Must I always first call the validation method before setting any value? So would I write setter methods which call the appropriate validation method first? And if yes, what's the point of following a strict convention in how to write the validation method signature? I guess there's also some automatic way of validation, then. How to activate this?

  • Batch To Bash Conversion

    - by Steven
I need to know this Batch Script into Bash : @echo off set /p name= Name? findstr /m "%name%" ndatabase.txt if %errorlevel%==0 ( cls echo The name is found in the database! pause >nul exit ) cls echo. echo Name not found in database. pause >nul exit I am new to the Linux Kernel, so starting off with an easy distro - Ubuntu 12.10. My problem is that I do not really know much of Bash Script, since I am very accustomed to the Batch Script format; which is obviously a bad habit for my C++.

  • How do you keep Cocoa controllers from getting too big?

    - by zoul
Hello! Do you have some tricks or techniques to break Cocoa controller classes into smaller chunks? I find that whatever I do the controllers end up being one of the more complicated classes in my design. The basic stuff is simple, but once I have several pop-overs or action sheets running, things get uncomfortably complex. It's not that bad, but still I would like to refactor the code into several standalone chunks. I thought about categories, but the code is not that independent (a lot of times it needs to tap into viewWillAppear, for example) and I find that I spend a long time fighting the compiler. I also thought about adding functionality in layers using inheritance, but that feels like a hack.

  • Should i use TabContainer for multiple pages?

    - by Tim
I'm considering if it is a good idea to use an ASP.Net TabContainer-Control in the way that every TabPanel contains content of a different page. For example: Next i want to implement in my application is the masterdata management. Normally i would create one aspx page for every masterdata-table (f.e. Customer - MD_Customer.aspx). Then i would add a link into my Menu to this page. Now i'm thinking of creating one aspx page for all(Masterdata.aspx) with a Tabcontainer and an UpdatePanel for every type of Masterdata. The link it the menu could have an additional MDType as URL-Parameter. My main concerns are related to performance(one "page" for every TabPanel currently means 7 "pages" in one) and maintainability because of increasing complexity. Is it a good approach or a bad idea? Thanks

  • UITableViewController executes delate functions before network request finishes

    - by user1543132
    I'm having trouble trying to populate a UITableView with the results of a network request. It seems that my code is alright as it works perfectly when my network is speedy, however, when it's not, the function - (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath- still executes, which results in a bad access error. I presume that this is because the array that the aforesaid function attempts to utilize has not been populated. This brings me to my question: Is there anyway that I can have the UITableView delegate methods delayed to avoid this? - (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { static NSString *CellIdentifier = @"AlbumsCell"; //UITableViewCell *basicCell = [tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:CellIdentifier forIndexPath:indexPath]; AlbumsCell *cell = (AlbumsCell *)[tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:CellIdentifier]; if (!cell) { **// Here is where the Thread 1: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (code=2 address=0x8)** cell = [[[AlbumsCell alloc] initWithStyle:UITableViewCellStyleDefault reuseIdentifier:CellIdentifier] autorelease]; } Album *album = [_albums objectAtIndex:[indexPath row]]; [cell setAlbum:album]; return cell; }

  • Javascript points calculating system

    - by coolboycsaba
I trying to create a points calculating system with javascript, but the problem is with the mathematical part. I have saved on the server the points number, and based on that number I want to decide the level. Sorry for my bad english, I cant explain very well :D. I want something like: level 1 need 0 points level 2 needs 100 points level 3 needs 240 points level 4 needs 420 points level 5 needs 640 points and so on.... I need a mathematical function to calculate each level with it. Something that if I know the level to calculate the points needed, and if I know only the points to calculate the level.

  • SQL Server concurrency and generated sequence

    - by Goyuix
I need a sequence of numbers for an application, and I am hoping to leverage the abilities of SQL Server to do it. I have created the following table and procedure (in SQL Server 2005): CREATE TABLE sequences ( seq_name varchar(50) NOT NULL, seq_value int NOT NULL ) CREATE PROCEDURE nextval @seq_name varchar(50) AS BEGIN DECLARE @seq_value INT SET @seq_value = -1 UPDATE sequences SET @seq_value = seq_value = seq_value + 1 WHERE seq_name = @seq_name RETURN @seq_value END I am a little concerned that without locking the table/row another request could happen concurrently and end up returning the same number to another thread or client. This would be very bad obviously. Is this design safe in this regard? Is there something I can add that would add the necessary locking to make it safe? Note: I am aware of IDENTITY inserts in SQL Server - and that is not what I am looking for this in particular case. Specifically, I don't want to be inserting/deleting rows. This is basically to have a central table that manages the sequential number generator for a bunch of sequences.

  • System.NullReferenceException with WhoCanHelpMe Unit Test

    - by tlum
I'm working with a test project based on WhoCanHelpMe, which is based on Sharp Architecture, NHibernateValidator, etc. As its written the when_the_profile_tasks_is_asked_to_create_a_profile unit test creates the profile object and saves it without issue. Now the profile object is a CreateProfileDetails type that derives from their own ValidatableValueObject which inherits the IValidatable interface. The problem surfaces when my class is based on an Entity rather than their ValidatableValueObject. When the test is run a System.NullReferenceException because Validate() is null. I'm afraid that I'm at a loss to resolve this bad behavior. Does anyone have some suggestions to get to the bottom of this? Thanks, -Ted-

  • How to Change Type of a VARIANT

    - by nimo
Hi, I'm having a VARIANT with its type set to VT_R8. Subsequently I need to change its type to VT_BSTR. I would like know whether there is a way of resetting a VARIANT status. Thus, I noticed that every time I set value to the VARIANT (in my case, its double) , VARIANT itself set its bstrVal member to a bad pointer, even though I set bstrVal member to NULL at the initialization of VARIANT. Why such thing is happening ? Is it safe to use a VARIANT as structure where both dbVal and bstrVal member are set ? Please clarify, thank you.

  • Delphi : What is the best way for passing data between forms?

    - by Flom Enol
It may seem a little newbie, but I really have got problem with it. I have a form (not the main one)for getting many different data form the user and I want to pass it to a manager class for creating an object with these. The problem is that I can't have this class to use the other unit (getting circle uses) and also it doesn't have access to the manager class instance (which is in main form). So, what shall I do? I've already considered using public variable but I have a bad feeling about it (regarding OOD patterns). Any ideas? thanks in advance.
