  • Is there any difference between Spring and Spring.net?

    - by Javi
Hello, I've been using Spring with Java and I've seen that there is a version called Spring.NET. I wonder if there is any significant difference between them (apart from that one is for Java and the other is for .NET). Is it just a "language translation" of the framework or are they different project with just a similar purpose? Thanks.

  • How do I put static data into an SQLite database in Android?

    - by sirconnorstack
If I have a bunch of data that is never going to change (eg. an English language dictionary or the rgb values of a couple hundred color names), how do I use an SQLite database to store it? I know a database is faster than loading everything into memory when the app starts, but how do I make the database either the first time the app runs or "before" the apps ever runs?

  • Does variable name length matter for performance C#?

    - by MadBoy
I've been wondering if using long descriptive variable names in WinForms C# matters for performance? I'm asking this question since in AutoIt v3 (interpreted language) it was brought up that having variables with short names like aa instead of veryLongVariableName is much much faster (when program is bigger then 5 liner). I'm wondering if it's the same in C#?

  • Which data structures and algorithms book should I buy?

    - by Hei
I know C and C++ and I have some experience with Java, but I don't know too much about Algorithms and Data Structures. I did a search on Amazon, but I don't know what book should I choose. I don't want a book which put its basis only on the theoretic part; I want the practical part too (probably more than the theoretical one :) ). I don't want the code to be implemented in a certain language, but if is in Java, probably I would happier. :)

  • Idiomatic scheme and generic programming, why only on numbers ?

    - by Skeptic
Hi, In Scheme, procedures like +, -, *, / works on different types of numbers, but we don't much see any other generic procedures. For example, length works only on list so that vector-length and string-length are needed. I guess it comes from the fact that the language doesn't really offer any mechanism for defining generic procedure (except cond of course) like "type classes" in Haskell or a standardized object system. Is there an idiomatic scheme way to handle generic procedures that I'm not aware of ?

  • Image in Image Algorithm

    - by Paul
I need an algorithm written in any language to find an image inside of an image, including at different scales. Does anyone know a starting point to solving a problem like this? For example: I have an image of 800x600 and in that image is a yellow ball measuring 180 pixels in circumference. I need to be able to find this image with a search pattern of a yellow ball having a circumference of 15 pixels. Thanks

  • How can I declare a pointer structure?

    - by Y_Y
This probably is one of the easiest questions ever in C programming language... I have the following code: typedef struct node { int data; struct node * after; struct node * before; }node; struct node head = {10,&head,&head}; Is there a way I can make head to be *head [make it a pointer] and still have the availability to use '{ }' [{10,&head,&head}] to declare an instance of head?

  • Creating an http proxy

    - by Pablo Fernandez
This might be a beginner question but I did some googling and couldn't find an answer so bear with me. I was wondering if there was a resource, tutorial, wiki, etc that explained how to create an http proxy. It would be good to see it in ruby but any language will do if that's not possible. Thanks a lot

  • New to Drupal -- how should I create a main page with a mix of dynamic and static content?

    - by Erode
I apologize for the terribly basic question but I'm not even a particularly adept web dev. I've read that Drupal is great if you know exactly what you want to do (then the API is handy) but I don't even know what I need yet. That is what I am hoping to gain from this discussion. I want a main content page which has a fancy content slider (using jQuery or something) which will be a selector for showing some basic information on these 2 or 3 subjects. I'm stuck on where I should be writing this mix of markup. In the template? Create "content" through a content type? Since there's a fair share of CSS and markup required to do this, I don't know if I can do that through the "basic page" content type that was there. I'm looking for pointers that can teach me how I would become aware of what Drupal can and can not do. Thanks for reading, let me know if I need to clarify anything.

  • Python integer incrementing with ++

    - by Znarkus
I've always laughed to myself when I looked back at my VB6 days, "What modern language doesn't allow incrementing with double plus signs?": number++ To my surprise I can't find anything about this in the Python docs. Must I really subject myself to number = number + 1? Doesn't people use the ++/-- notation? :-(

  • How do you find out about new Java technologies, tools and specifications?

    - by tputkonen
One of the major challenges for any java developer is try to keep in pace of development of the language and new tools. Java is evolving all the time and it happens often that I hear from a friend or colleague about some useful tool I had never heard of before. I'd love to hear about how people find out when new java specs come out or an interesting, new tool is released? For example, what java blogs do you follow?
