  I have following patterns /invitation/mission/busstop -- return the list of busstops /invitation/mission/busstop/id -- return a specific busstop /invitation/mission/driver -- return the list of drivers /invitation/mission/driver/id -- return a specific driver /invitation/mission/driver/city/model/limit -- query driver accoring to city, model and age limit ... /invitation/questionair -- return the list of questionairs /invitation/questionair/id -- return a specific questionair /invitation/questionair/create -- create a new questionair /invitation/questionair/update/id -- update a questionair ... I expect the 'invitation' to be controller, and the rest to be action. Each of the above url should corresponds to a dedicated view page. • Paperclip + ImageMagick on Windows 7: Image display fails when I add styles to attached_file in mode

  I'm working with Ruby on rails 2.3.8, NetBeans IDE. I've installed paperclip and I could show/save images successfully. Now, I've installed ImageMagick-6.6.2-4-Q16(for windows 7, 64bits). Until that moment, my model looked like this(and worked fine): has_attached_file :photo Now, after installing ImageMagick, when I add the :style line it fails: has_attached_file :photo, :styles => {:thumb => "100x100#", :small => "150x150>", :large => "400x400>" } and it throws the following error message when I try to upload an image: TypeError in ProfilesController#update backtrace must be Array of String The only thing I'm doing in the update action of that controller is the following: @profile.update_attributes(params[:profile]) @profile.update_attribute(:photo, params[:profile][:photo]) I've also installed miniMagick gem(because I read somewhere I had to do it). What am I missing?

• ASP.NET MVC 2 - Checkboxes

  I'm using string[] roles = Roles.GetAllRoles() to get a string[] of all the ASP.NET membership roles for my application. I'm sending the roles to my view in ViewData and using a foreach to create a set of Checkboxes using <%: Html.CheckBox("RoleCheckBox") %>. There are 3 roles and my view does render 3 checkboxes. When I do a View/Source, I see the checkboxes and their corresponding hidden tags. They all have the same, so there are 6 tags with the name "RoleCheckBox" - 3 that render the checkboxes and 3 that are hidden. The problem comes when I post the form back to my controller and bind the results - something like public ActionResult Create(Person person, string[] RoleCheckBox). I get FOUR strings and I have no idea where the fourth string ("false") is coming from. I could do some testing by trying various combinations of checks to see which one (hopefully) doesn't change and ignore it but that's just ugly. Does anyone know why this would be happening? • Better way to kill a Form after the FormClosing event is overridden to hide rather than close?

  I have a simple Windows Form that hosts property controls at runtime. To keep the window and its contents alive rather than killing it by handling the FormClosing event, cancel the event and simply hide the form. That's fine but at close of the application I need to actually close the window. I implemented the below but it feels kludgey. Is there a simpler, more clever way to handle this situation? (The form's controller calls KillForm explicitly after it receives a closing event from the main window.) • Omniauth + Pow Issue

  I am having a strange issue with Pow and Omniauth. Omniauth (Facebook Login) works fine when using localhost:3000, but when using Pow (appname.dev) things get fishy. Users are taken through the redirect and properly created if they don't exist in the database, as they should be. After this, however, they are redirected to the root_path and not signed in. Their record is saved in the database as expected, but sign in does not occur. Again, this is only happening on Pow (and lvh.me), and not on localhost. Any ideas? I am using the Devise/Omniauth approach for sign-in, and the controller code looks like this: def facebook @user = User.find_for_facebook_oauth(request.env["omniauth.auth"], current_user) if @user.persisted? flash[:notice] = I18n.t "devise.omniauth_callbacks.success", :kind => "Facebook" sign_in_and_redirect @user, :event => :authentication else session["devise.facebook_data"] = request.env["omniauth.auth"] redirect_to new_user_registration_url end end Again, the user is persisted but there is no flash notice or sign_in that occurs when using POW.

• Decrease the load time for Mobile Version Rails Site

  I have been working on the mobile version of my rails application.I am using the approach of using the same controller and rendering a mobile view when the request is from a mobile device. I am using jquery mobile in mobile views. For mobile views I did not use any layout for the views because it is the same as loading the required files in each view. In this approach, Every request essentially loads all of the required js,css files which i feel is making the mobile site to load slowly. • Maintaining the query string in ASP.Net MVC

  Hi all Just beginning my journey in ASP.Net MVC and I have a query about something before I dig myself in too deep. I have a table, which is paged, and I have 2 controls above the table: Dropdown that defines order of the results and apply button next to it Textbox that defines a filter and apply button next to it What I need to achieve is that if the user changes the order or adds a filter I fire of an AJAX call to my action like such: /Membership/Users?sort=value&filter=value&page=pagenumber. So my controller action is: // GET Membership/Users?sort=&filter=&page= public ActionResult Users(string sort, string filter, string page) So I have 3 questions: Is this the correct approach? What would be the best way to ensure that the query string is maintained, bearing in mind that the action will nearly always be called by Jquery/Ajax functions? If I wanted to link directly to this action passing the arguments would I need to hard-code the querystring? Thanks

• Ruby class variable is reset after rails app initialized

  I tried to assign a class static variable like this class QueryLogger < Logger @@query_logger_default_instance = nil def self.default_instance # Use global variable because static variable doesn't work @@query_logger_default_instance ||= self.new(STDOUT) end end In initializers folder of my rails app, I added a file with this code block ActiveRecord::Base.logger = QueryLogger.default_instance In a request (action of controller), I make a call to this: QueryLogger.default_instance. My assumption is that the call to default_instance will always report the same. However, it does not. Now I try to watch stuff in NetBeans by setting breakpoint inside default_instance. Thing happen as expected, the default_instance get called twice, one due to the initializer block and one due to the call to my action. Surprising thing is, in both times, @@query_logger_default_instance report nil inside NetBeans inspector. The first nil report is correct, but the second shocked me. It's look like static variable gets reset after rails app initialized. Is there some magic there?

• Magento - blank lines being added to wsdl file

  I am trying to call the API but I keep getting a soap error that can't load the file. I found that the reason is there are about 3 blank lines at the top of the XML file that is returned. I found this by doing wget url. This use to work just fine, when I debug through the API controller the response or xml looks fine all the way through, I don't see any spaces at all. I have no idea what might be causing this. I don't think there is anything we modified that would do this.

• Unresponsive UI when using BeginInvoke

  Bckground I have a networked application written in C#. my server program has a UI and several communication threads, that read from tcp sockets and display messages on controller UI. Communication with each client is done through a seprate thread. When i recieve some stream of messages from one client , the thread for that client writes on UI, which is a richtextbox on a Form. I call SetTextHelper(string text) method of the form. which looks like this private delegate void MyTextUpdateHandler(string text); public void SetTextHelper(string text) { BeginInvoke(new MyTextUpdateHandler(SetText), new object[] { text }); } public setText(string text) { richtext.Text= text; } Question - If i use BeginInvoke my UI is entirely unresponsive when i m writing large stream of data to UI - Invoke solves that problem, but i read that for multi threaded environment where many thereads are sharing same resource Invoke can lead to deadlocks I share the common ichtextbox between around 16 threads - What would be a good desing for my situation?

• Combining features from other projects in an ASP.NET MVC application

  Hello, I am writing an ASP.NET MVC application that combines a set of features from existing applications. The new application is suppose to use UI features and logic created (especially for this purpose) in the existing applications. For that reason I wanted to create in the existing applications some kind of a "blackbox" that I will be able to drop in my new application along with a matching connection string, and it will work independently, binding data on it's own. I thought about using partial views, but I am having trouble with passing the model data to it, since the controller of the new application should not know about the model of the existing applications. I can not use ASP.NET WebForms, since my application should be a "postback-less" application, and ASP.NET AJAX toolkit or frameworks alike are out of the question.   Hey, I am creating a website in Ruby on Rails. I have a controller action that renders a view like so: def show time_left = Time.now.to_i - 3.hours.to_i @character = current_user.characters.find(params[:id]) respond_to do |format| format.html # show.html.erb format.xml { render :xml => @character } end end This is fine as it renders the show.html.erb as I like. I would like however to somehow pass time_left to the view as a Javascript variable as this value is use by a countdown JQuery plugin. I could put a javascript block on the page in the HTML and print a instance variable out like so: <script type="javascript"> $('#countdown').countdown('<%= @time_left =>')</script> But I would like to keep all my JS in a external file and off the page could anyone give some advice on how to implement this? • MCV/MVP Patterns and Applications that interface with Hardware (DAQ/PLC/etc)

  I've been reading a lot about the MCV and MVP patterns for use with UI and it seems like a really nice powerful way to handle user interfaces. I am - however - having a difficult time deciding how this could integrate into a system where data in the model is created from a Data Acquisition System or Serial/Ethernet devices. There is also the added step that 70% of application interaction is performed by a PLC instead of a live user. It seems that for apps that just read/write & manipulate information from a database this works great, but how does does hardware and automation fit into these patterns? Is it as simple as another controller (for lack of a better term) that interacts with hardware that manipulates data and writes to a model? Maybe I am over thinking this or thinking too simply, so any advice would be great. I'm not quite sure where I'm going with this, so if something doesn't make sense or I was too vague leave me a comment. Thanks!

• How can I make my tableview enter editing mode?

  Hi, for some reason I can't get my tableview to enter editing mode. It's a little harder than it might seem because I'm using some open source code to make a calendar (iCal esque) with a tableview under it, and it's not quite as straightforward as just using a regular tableview. Basically, I have two classes. One (let's say Class A) is a UIViewController and the other (Class B) is that viewController's datasource and tableview delegate. In Class B, I've implemented -(void)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView didSelectRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath; which works fine, but if I put an edit nav bar item in Class A (the view controller), nothing happens. Am I forgetting certain protocols, or certain special methods that I need to write? Thanks for any help, and apologies if I'm missing something, I'm just learning to work with other people's code.

• Exceptions in ASP.MVC

  Hello guys, I'm here again with another question about MVC. Here is the deal. I have a simple table/class with an Id and a Name. Names suppossed to be unique, and are modeled like that in the DB. I created my controller and everything just works fine. But if I try to insert a name that already exists, an exception should be thrown. I'm just not finding what is the correct kind of exception and it's namespace. The error must be coming from the DB, so... Any ideas? Thanks

• Testing if a UI element is hidden in an OCUnit test

  I have a button that is hidden under certain circumstances that I wish to test. The button is hidden with [theButton setHidden: YES] in the viewDidLoad method if it is appropriate. For simplicity, lets say that the button is hidden when the buttonIsHidden property is set to true in the view controller. Right now I am trying the following: self.viewController = [[ViewController alloc] init]; self.viewController.buttonIsHidden = YES; [self.viewController loadView]; UIButton *theButton = [...] // function I wrote to retrieve the button based on it's touch up inside action if (theButton) { NSLog(@"%c", theButton.hidden); return (theButton.hidden == true) } return NO; It looks like the hidden property is not what it should be, the NSLog lines from the above code are blank. But, if I output another property like the height, it outputs the correct value so I know it is getting the right button. How do I access the hidden property of the button in this case?

• Is there any framework for Windows Forms, DB driven application development/prototyping?

  I'm writing simple database driven application, 80% of functionality is CRUD operations on about 15 tables. Coming from web development background I figured I can cover almost all of these CRUD cases with Rails scaffolding or say Django admins. So I started to look around for Rails/Django-like framework but for Windows Forms applications (ofcourse I understand that "rich client" application development significantly differs from a web development and I'm not expecting anything really similar). I was surprised that except for a variety of ORMs (let's call it Model-layer) it seems like I'm left with little choice when it comes to View-Controller layer. Maybe I'm missing something? PS. I evaluated Visual Studio DataSet Designer, but it seems to work only for the most simple cases, and requires additional code for any slightly nontrivial task.   Hey, I have two models Users and Roles. I have setup a many to many relationship between the two models and I have a joint table called roles_users. I have a form on a page with a list of roles which the user checks a checkbox and it posts to the controller which then updates the roles_users table. At the moment in my update method I am doing this because I am not sure of a better way: role_ids = params[:role_ids] user.roles.clear role_ids.each do |role| user.roles << Role.find(role) end unless role_ids.nil? So I am clearing all the entries out then looping threw all the role ids sent from the form via post, I also noticed that if all the checkboxes are checked and the form posted it keeps adding duplicate records, could anyone give some advice on a more efficent way of doing this?

• routing problem with startpage in rails3

  Hey, I deleted the Index.html in my /public/ folder. I added a "application" folder in my views. In it I put a new index.html.erb. This I want to be my startpage/homepage. In my new "index.html.erb" I set: link_to 'sign in', {:controller => 'devise/sessions', :action => 'new'} But it redirects me to the "application#index". I set root :to => "application#index How can I set this to route it to "posts#index" after I sign in, for example? Is there a chance to use .erb oder .haml in my /public/index.html? Many thanks!!

• UINavigationController crashes after pushing 3 views onto stack

  I have a navigation controller, which has the following structure: Category Item Item Detail I can choose a category, and then choose an item to see its details. I can do this twice, i.e. go Back to the list of items and select another item. If i try this a third time, the app crashes, I get objc_msgSend in stack but thats all. But, instead of choosing another item, i go to the list of categories, and choose a different category, I can select two items in that category, before it crashes also. What would be causing this?   I have some problems with ASP.NET MVC’s default model binder. The View contains HTML like this: <input name="SubDTO[0].Id" value="1" type="checkbox"> <input name="SubDTO[1].Id" value="2" type="checkbox"> This is my simplified ‘model’: public class SubDTO { public virtual string Id { get; set; } } public class DTO { public List<SubDTO> SubDTOs { get; set; } public DTO() { SubDTOs = new List< SubDTO>(); } } All this works fine if the user selects at least the first checkbox (SubDTO[0].Id). The controller ‘receives’ a nicely initialised/bound DTO. However, if the first check box is not selected but only, for example, SubDTO[1].Id the object SubDTOs is null. My question; is this approach secure? is there a better/more efficient way for doing this? All suggestions are welcome.

• Code is exectuting but the view is not loading when called form a function?

  I have a viewBased application with the viewController class mainView. In it I am loading various views(different nibs) depending upon certain actions that I do. I have added a popoverController with a barbutton in the mainView. Its intialized with a tableviewController class named popClass. When I select certain row in the popover, I want the view in my mainView to load someother view(as I do when i do certain actions). For that I have written a function in mainView Controller class and is calling it from the popOver class. Function and the lines of code are executing but nothing is happening. Even the log lines are printed but no action takes place. What is the problem? OR is there anyother way to make the view change in mainView by using the popover?
