• How do I bind to a custom view in Cocoa using Xcode 4?

  I'm a beginner when it comes to writing Mac apps and working with Cocoa, so please forgive my ignorance. I'm looking to create a custom view, that exposes some properties, which I can then bind to an NSObjectController. Since it's a custom view, the Bindings Inspector obviously doesn't list any of the properties I've added to the view that I can then bind to using Interface Builder. After turning to the Stackoverflow/Google for help, I've stumbled across a couple of possible solutions, but neither seem to be quite right for my situation. The first suggested creating an IBPlugin, which would then mean my bindings would be available in the Bindings Inspector. I could then bind the view to the controller using IB. Apparently IBPlugins aren't supported in Xcode 4, so that one's out the window. I'm also assuming (maybe wrongly) that IBPlugins are no longer supported because there's a better way of doing such things these days? The second option was to bind the controller to the view programmatically. I'm a bit confused as to exactly how I would achieve this. Would it require subclassing NSObjectController so I can add the calls to bind to the view? Would I need to add anything to the view to support this? Some examples I've seen say you'd need to override the bind method, and others say you don't. Also, I've noticed that some example custom views call [self exposeBinding:@"bindingName"] in the initializer. From what I gather from various sources, this is something that's related to IBPlugins and isn't something I need to do if I'm not using them. Is that correct? I've found a post on Stackoverflow here which seems to discuss something very similar to my problem, but there wasn't any clear winner as to the best answer. The last comment by noa on 12th Sept seems interesting, although they mention you should be calling exposeBinding:. Is this comment along the right track? Is the call to exposeBinding really necessary? Apologies for any dumb questions. Any help greatly appreciated.

However, I have an additional requirement to break the questionnaires out into their own tables grouped by the milestone they are associated to, rather than in a single table. It appears as though the group_by method is design to accomplish this, but I cannot get it to work as desired inside the tag. It may be that I'm missing something obvious, as I am a beginner... Any help is appreciated.

  I'm using Visual Studio 2010 Express, working on a Silverlight 4 project in C#.   Just as the question asks. I have an Esri map control and want to add a Rastor image to the control in WPF and don't know how to do it. I see that I can add layers to the Map control, but is there a way to add a Raster image to a map control? • libarchive reads too many chars when extracting a file

  I've written a C program to extract files from a tar archive using libarchive. I'd like to extract a file from this archive and print it to standard output. But I get extra characters. It's garbage, but it's from another file (possibly adjacent to it in the archive.) I expect output to end at </html>. Here is the code that reads this tar file. libarchive 2.8.3 compiled on mac os X 10.6.3. gcc 4.2 x86_64 ls -l vendar-definition.html gives me 1921 for the file size. And so shows tar tfv 0000.tar | grep vendar-definition.html. So reports the C output that states the file size. To me this seems correct. Two possibilities I can see for why my output is not as expected: 1. I've made a beginner's mistake or 2. multibyte characters in the archive files has something to do with it.

• Custom OData operation / customize EF model to hide join table in many-to-many relationship

  I've got a data model that has two tables with a join table for a many to many relationship & creating an OData service to expose the data for CRUD ops in a Silverlight app. What I'd like to do is abstract the join table from the service. I'm not sure if the best way to do this would be in the model (using EF in .NET3.5SP1) or if I should do it with a custom service operation. If I do it in the EF model (not sure how I'd do this), then the OOTB WCF Data Service stuff would make it easy to say [..]/Courses(1)/Modules ... otherwise I'd have to create a custom operation to do this. Is it possible to do this in the EF model and if so, how does that work?

  Wild question here. Is it possible to access the copy buffer on the web. What I mean is. Can I go into Photoshop. Select a piece of a photo. Copy that piece and paste it into some element. That something would be like a Java applet or Flash or Silverlight or anything. I am just wondering if it is possible and if someone could point me in a direction. Since a few google searches have only found where you can copy files and paste via a Java applet.

The trigger is that whenever the primary key Id is greater than 32145, then channelNum=101 should be set. I want to set the attrib name - text also, but I got the compilation issue.   I've been trying to find resources and guidelines for implementing authentication and authorization in multiple layered architectures (C#), but haven't found any "best practices" or patterns to use. And I figured, that there must be some patterns for this, as it is a pretty important area? The application that we're developing, is layered traditionally, having data layer (Entity Framework 4) repositories domain layer service layer (can be WCF, with data transfer objects) multiple clients consuming the WCF service (ASP.NET [MVC], Silverlight, WPF) and clients accessing a service layer directly (no WCF) Are there books/articles/blogs that dig deeply into this area? Primarily about authorization such as handling multiple roles and attributes attached to users). It doesn’t have to be specific for the .NET Framework, but it would be preferred.

• NHibernate auditing in disconnected mode

  I'm developing an app with a Silverlight UI, transferring my domain objects over WCF and persisting them via NHibernate. I'm therefore working with NHibernate in a disconnected mode. I'm already using the NHibernate PreUpdate and PreInsert EventListeners to perform some metadata operations (updating Create/Update date, created/updated by etc) and they are working fine. I now have a requirement to perform data logging on some of my domain objects. So I will need to have an audit table that has a before-save and after-save state of certain entities. I had wanted to use the @event.Persister.OldState and @event.Persister.NewState to perform this logging, but because I am in a disconnected scenario (using different Sessions from when data is retrieved to when it is persisted), @event.Persister.OldState is null when I am saving my changes back to the database. How is anyone else doing data logging in a disconnected scenario with NHibernate?

• Prestashop - quick development questions

  Sorry to post here about this but no one at the prestashop forum seems active enough to help. I thought maybe someone here on stackoverflow might have worked with prestashop. I started using Prestashop yesterday so I’m a total beginner, but I’m very experienced in web development, I do have some quick questions though. I’ve googled around but it causes me great frustration since I don’t really know what I’m looking for or what’s avaiable. Is there absolutely no API for this? I mean I found the wiki but it holds no good information. I want to edit my theme completely, as I wish. Edit html, add/remove js, just being able to do what I want, but when I edit the tpl files in my active theme, NOTHING happens. The site remains exactly the same. Why is this, or where do I change it without hacking the core? Do I have to recompile these .tpl files in some way for the changes to take affect? I also want to edit alot of the modules to match my demands, but same here, if I edit their tpl files nothing seems to happen or rather I don’t want to hack the core, since I suppose these will be affected if I update the platform. Where do I find my products page, I want to create a menu with a link to a page called products or something with an overview of the products avaiable in my store. I’m very confused, but I guess you just have to get through this, I’m used to developing in wordpress or without any cms for that matter. Sorry if my questions are very basic and probably have been answered before. :<

• Three most critical programming concepts

  I know this has probably been asked in one form or fashion but I wanted to pose it once again within the context of my situation (and probably others here @ SO). I made a career change to Software Engineering some time ago without having an undergrad or grad degree in CS. I've supplemented my undergrad and grad studies in business with programming courses (VB, Java,C, C#) but never performed academic coursework in the other related disciplines (algorithms, design patterns, discrete math, etc.)...just mostly self-study. I know there are several of you who have either performed interviews and/or made hiring decisions. Given recent trends in demand, what would you say are the three most essential Comp Sci concepts that a developer should have a solid grasp of outside of language syntax? For example, I've seen blog posts of the "Absolute minimum X that every programmer must know" variety...that's what I'm looking for. Again if it's truly a redundancy please feel free to close; my feelings won't be hurt. • Android import project errors

  Hey everyone, I'm a beginner, so I'll try my best to explain this problem succinctly. Basically, a friend of mine and I were playing around with the Android SDK, editing a simple RSS reader. We could launch it in the emulator and even install it on our real devices. Fast forward a few days, I'm trying to import the exact same code that was working a few days earlier into Eclipse on my laptop. I tried both importing and new project from existing source. Both return these new errors that we never had originally. I got an error that involved the auto generated "R" file, but I have solved this. Now, I'm getting 3 errors that I have never had before - The method onClick(View) of type new View.OnClickListener(){} must override a superclass method - displayed twice ( 2 different lines) The method onTabChanged(String) of type new TabHost.OnTabChangeListener(){} must override a superclass method My question is this - What would cause the these discrepancies between importing/running on my friends computer and mine? Also, we are both using the latest version of Java/Eclipse Thanks in advance for any insight.

It seems that the WcfService< class is restricting the return type of a WCF method to be an enum. How can I have my service return something other than an enum? Do I need to create a custom implementation of NServiceBus.WcfService<?

• What technology to use for a RIA

  I have to develop a online business software solution (similar to ERP) for a company to manage the information exchange for internal use and with external partners. It should be online. What technology should I use, I have checked framewroks like: Flex, Silverlight, Google/GWT, sencha (ExtJS), jQuery, DoJo, Telereik, Infrajistics and others similar. But they seam to be very low level programming. May be this is advantage for other projects, where you need more flexibility, but this project is stright forward. I need something more focused on business software (tables, forms, processes) where and eventually more efficient with less coding, or something I can save time. Is force.com an option? But I can not install this on the customer's servers... Do you have any ideas for me for a web based framework focused on business applications?

• Can't authenticate mobile client with node.js (using passport.js)

  I'm trying to build some CRUD application with node.js as a back-end API (express) and web-app (backbone) and mobile client (native android) as front-ends.(I'm node.js beginner) My server solution is based on the following great tutorial 'easy-node-authentication'. In my android app I have managed to get the user Google-Token after I completed the authentication step with Google Plus SDK.(mobile to google-plus directly request). I'm trying to understand and find right and elegant way to re-use a given google-token and authenticate again my android user through Google-Plus account to ensure the mobile client holds real token, then add a new entry (id, token, email, name) to my users table DB within my node back-end. The question is: what should be my next step in case I want to keep my back-end without changes? should I send a GET request with the token as a cookie to /auth/google? maybe to /auth/google/callback? another URL? Does this make sense at all? Please note: I'm aware to the fact the mentioned above 'easy-node-auth' solution is based on sessions and cookies. having said that, i'm still trying to understand if there is a convenient way to integrate both (android and node) as it works good for my web-app and node.   I'm kind of on the right track, however my output is not quite right. The program asks for the number of integers you have and then it asks for those numbers. For an example is says please enter the number of integers, you can put 3. And then you enter 3 numbers. I can't use arrays because I am a beginner student and we have not learned those yet. Using count is the only way that allows me to input integers. What do I need to add to my program? Again I am a general computer science student so I can't use anything advanced. • Error with zoomStartTime and AnnotatedTimeLine

  I'm a bit of a beginner with Javascript, but last month I had a working Google chart linked to a Google Docs file, which uses a start date for the graph at 90 days before the current date. I checked the page today and in Chrome I get the message "Object # has no method 'getTime'", and in Firefox I get the message "b.zoomStartTime[y] is not a function". Both stop the graph from loading. I have simplified the code to help me with the error, but I'm not getting anywhere... • Objective C: Function returning correct data for the first time of call and null for other times

  Hi all, Am a beginner in objective C, i am implementing a function that would query a web server and display the returning string in console. I am calling the function (getDatafromServer) repeatedly in a loop. The problem is that the first time am getting the value whereas the other times, it returns me a (null) in console... I've searched about memory management and check out on the forums but none have worked. Can you please guys tell me where am wrong in the codes below?
