  • Which PHP CMS has the best architecture?

    - by Peter Bailey
In your opinion, which PHP CMS has the best architecture? I don't care about how easy its admin panel is to use, or how many CMS features it has. Right now, I'm after how good its code is (so, please, don't even mention Drupal or Wordpress /shudder). I want to know which ones have a good, solid, OOP codebase. Please provide as much detail as you can in your replies.

  • How to allow users to define financial formulas in a C# app

    - by Peter Morris
I need to allow my users to be able to define formulas which will calculate values based on data. For example //Example 1 return GetMonetaryAmountFromDatabase("Amount due") * 1.2; //Example 2 return GetMonetaryAmountFromDatabase("Amount due") * GetFactorFromDatabase("Discount"); I will need to allow / * + - operations, also to assign local variables and execute IF statements, like so var amountDue = GetMonetaryAmountFromDatabase("Amount due"); if (amountDue > 100000) return amountDue * 0.75; if (amountDue > 50000) return amountDue * 0.9; return amountDue; The scenario is complicated because I have the following structure.. Customer (a few hundred) Configuration (about 10 per customer) Item (about 10,000 per customer configuration) So I will perform a 3 level loop. At each "Configuration" level I will start a DB transaction and compile the forumlas, each "Item" will use the same transaction + compiled formulas (there are about 20 formulas per configuration, each item will use all of them). This further complicates things because I can't just use the compiler services as it would result in continued memory usage growth. I can't use a new AppDomain per each "Configuration" loop level because some of the references I need to pass cannot be marshalled. Any suggestions?

  • How to call Postgres function returning SETOF record?

    - by Peter
I have written the following function: -- Gets stats for all markets CREATE OR REPLACE FUNCTION GetMarketStats ( ) RETURNS SETOF record AS $$ BEGIN SELECT 'R approved offer' AS Metric, SUM(CASE WHEN M.MarketName = 'A+' AND M.Term = 24 THEN LO.Amount ELSE 0 end) AS MarketAPlus24, SUM(CASE WHEN M.MarketName = 'A+' AND M.Term = 36 THEN LO.Amount ELSE 0 end) AS MarketAPlus36, SUM(CASE WHEN M.MarketName = 'A' AND M.Term = 24 THEN LO.Amount ELSE 0 end) AS MarketA24, SUM(CASE WHEN M.MarketName = 'A' AND M.Term = 36 THEN LO.Amount ELSE 0 end) AS MarketA36, SUM(CASE WHEN M.MarketName = 'B' AND M.Term = 24 THEN LO.Amount ELSE 0 end) AS MarketB24, SUM(CASE WHEN M.MarketName = 'B' AND M.Term = 36 THEN LO.Amount ELSE 0 end) AS MarketB36 FROM "Market" M INNER JOIN "Listing" L ON L.MarketID = M.MarketID INNER JOIN "ListingOffer" LO ON L.ListingID = LO.ListingID; END $$ LANGUAGE plpgsql; And when trying to call it like this... select * from GetMarketStats() AS (Metric VARCHAR(50),MarketAPlus24 INT,MarketAPlus36 INT,MarketA24 INT,MarketA36 INT,MarketB24 INT,MarketB36 INT); I get an error: ERROR: query has no destination for result data HINT: If you want to discard the results of a SELECT, use PERFORM instead. CONTEXT: PL/pgSQL function "getmarketstats" line 2 at SQL statement I don't understand this output. I've tried using perform too, but I thought one only had to use that if the function doesn't return anything.

  • Rsync: pure Ruby implementation?

    - by peter
I have a Rsync program Deltacopy with an executable as client and server but would like to replace this if possible with a pure Ruby implementation of Rsync. I found gems like six-rsync and rsync-update but they seem to be no general implementations. I'm looking for a pure Ruby solution, so no executables involved and preferably runnable on multiple OS. If possible a simple sample would be great. I only look for Rsync, no other transfer or backup solutions please.

  • Changing a table-valued function that a stored procedure calls is not recognized?

    - by Peter
Hey all I have a stored procedure sp that calls a table-valued function tvf. Sometimes I modify the tvf but when subsequently executing sp, the output from sp is the same as before the modification. It seems like it is cached or compiled or something. If I make some dummy change to the sp, then I get the right output of the sp. Is there some way, I can overcome this problem? In Oracle it is possible to re-compile all stored procedures, but I haven't been able to figure out how to do this in SQL Server? Any help is highly appreciated.

  • How should I use random.jumpahead in Python

    - by Peter Smit
I have a application that does a certain experiment 1000 times (multi-threaded, so that multiple experiments are done at the same time). Every experiment needs appr. 50.000 random.random() calls. What is the best approach to get this really random. I could copy a random object to every experiment and do than a jumpahead of 50.000 * expid. The documentation suggests that jumpahead(1) already scrambles the state, but is that really true? Or is there another way to do this in 'the best way'? (No, the random numbers are not used for security, but for a metropolis hasting algorithm. The only requirement is that the experiments are independent, not whether the random sequence is somehow predictable or so)

  • Accessing Sabre Web Services using PHP

    - by Peter
I have been approached to create a website using Sabre Web Services to power the reservations system. All documentation I have seen refers to .NET or Java solutions, I was in doubt whether PHP can be used as access is performed using SOAP. I have found no further information about this, I assume the answer is yes, but wonder why there is not a single reference to this being possible - all solutions seem to be .NET Any suggestions? Thanks!

  • How to import data in SQL Compact Edition?

    - by Peter
I don't seem to find a tool for it, nor an odbc driver. Thanks UPDATE : I'm aware of the sql scripting possibilities. But than again : how to script a sql 2k table? (not just ddl, but data also?) Of course you can write this all by yourself, but importing data into CE cannot be such a hassle, or can it ? UPDATE2 : I don't seem to be able to choose the right dialect for inserting

  • JS Object this.method() breaks via jQuery

    - by Peter Boughton
I'm sure there's a simple answer to this, but it's Friday afternoon and I'm tired. :( Not sure how to explain it, so I'll just go ahead and post example code... Here is a simple object: var Bob = { Stuff : '' , init : function() { this.Stuff = arguments[0] } , doSomething : function() { console.log( this.Stuff ); } } And here it is being used: $j = jQuery.noConflict(); $j(document).ready( init ); function init() { Bob.init('hello'); Bob.doSomething(); $j('#MyButton').click( Bob.doSomething ); } Everything works, except for the last line. When jQuery calls the doSomething method it is overriding 'this' and stopping it from working. Trying to use just Stuff doesn't work either. So how do I refer to an object's own properties in a way that allows jQuery to call it, and also allows the object to work with the calling jQuery object? i.e. I would like to be able to do things like this: doSomething : function() { console.log( <CurrentObject>.Stuff + $j(<CallerElement>).attr('id') ); } (Where <CurrentObject> and <CallerElement> are replaced with appropriate names.)

  • Shell script argument parsing

There are a number of questions about this sort of thing but lets imagine we are targeting a generic Linux system with both getopt and getopts installed (not that we'll use either, but they seem popular) How do I parse both long (--example | --example simple-option) and short argruments (-e | -esimple-example | -e simple-example)

  • Whats wrong with this task queue setup?

    - by Peter Farmer
I've setup this task queue implementation on a site I host for a customer, it has a cron job which runs each morning at 2am "/admin/tasks/queue", this queues up emails to be sent out, "/admin/tasks/email", and uses cursors so as to do the queuing in small chunks. For some reason last night /admin/tasks/queue kept getting run by this code and so sent out my whole quota of emails :/. Have I done something wrong with this code? class QueueUpEmail(webapp.RequestHandler): def post(self): subscribers = Subscriber.all() subscribers.filter("verified =", True) last_cursor = memcache.get('daily_email_cursor') if last_cursor: subscribers.with_cursor(last_cursor) subs = subscribers.fetch(10) logging.debug("POST - subs count = %i" % len(subs)) if len(subs) < 10: logging.debug("POST - Less than 10 subscribers in subs") # Subscribers left is less than 10, don't reschedule the task for sub in subs: task = taskqueue.Task(url='/admin/tasks/email', params={'email': sub.emailaddress, 'day': sub.day_no}) task.add("email") memcache.delete('daily_email_cursor') else: logging.debug("POST - Greater than 10 subscibers left in subs - reschedule") # Subscribers is 10 or greater, reschedule for sub in subs: task = taskqueue.Task(url='/admin/tasks/email', params={'email': sub.emailaddress, 'day': sub.day_no}) task.add("email") cursor = subscribers.cursor() memcache.set('daily_email_cursor', cursor) task = taskqueue.Task(url="/admin/tasks/queue", params={}) task.add("queueup")

  • Delphi Compiler Directive to Evaluate Arguments in Reverse

    - by Peter Turner
I was really impressed with this delphi two liner using the IFThen function from Math.pas. However, it evaluates the DB.ReturnFieldI first, which is unfortunate because I need to call DB.first to get the first record. DB.RunQuery('select awesomedata1 from awesometable where awesometableid = "great"'); result := IfThen(DB.First = 0, DB.ReturnFieldI('awesomedata1')); Obviously this isn't such a big deal, as I could make it work with five robust liners. But all I need for this to work is for Delphi to evaluate DB.first first and DB.ReturnFieldI second. I don't want to change math.pas and I don't think this warrants me making a overloaded ifthen because there's like 16 ifthen functions. Just let me know what the compiler directive is, if there is an even better way to do this, or if there is no way to do this and anyone whose procedure is to call db.first and blindly retrieve the first thing he finds is not a real programmer.

  • Mysql through PHP gives a "Can't create/write to file" error

    - by Peter
The full error is: Message: Mysqli statement execute error : Can't create/write to file '/var/www/zendApp/backup/mysql/1268733580_name.sql' (Errcode: 13) I have tried several things already with the /var/www/ZendApp/backup/mysql directory $chmod 777 mysql $chmod 1777 mysql $chown root:root mysql $chown mysql:mysql mysql But nothing helps. What am I doing wrong here? Do I have to tell mysql somewhere that I can write to that directory?

  • What's the difference between an option type and a nullable type?

    - by Peter Olson
In F# mantra there seems to be a visceral avoidance of null, Nullable<T> and its ilk. In exchange, we are supposed to instead use option types. To be honest, I don't really see the difference. My understanding of the F# option type is that it allows you to specify a type which can contain any of its normal values, or None. For example, an Option<int> allows all of the values that an int can have, in addition to None. My understanding of the C# nullable types is that it allows you to specify a type which can contain any of its normal values, or null. For example, a Nullable<int> a.k.a int? allows all of the values that an int can have, in addition to null. What's the difference? Do some vocabulary replacement with Nullable and Option, null and None, and you basically have the same thing. What's all the fuss over null about?

  • Run shell script using fabric and piping script text to shell's stdin

    - by Peter Lyons
Is there a way to execute a multi-line shell script by piping it to the remote shell's standard input in fabric? Or must I always write it to the remote filesystem, then run it, then delete it? I like sending to stdin as it avoids the temporary file. If there's no fabric API (and it seems like there is not based on my research), presumably I can just use the ssh module directly. Basically I wish fabric.api.run was not limited to a 1-line command that gets passed to the shell as a command line argument, but instead would take a full multi-line script and write it to the remote shell's standard input.

  • Can CultureInfo.CurrentCulture differ per application pool?

    - by Peter
I'm having trouble with CultureInfo in our ASP.NET web application. Our web application returns a different culture, depending on which application pool it is in. In application pool A, it is en-US, but in application pool B, it's nl-BE. I'd like it to be nl-BE, but can't find where to change this (IIS6 by the way). I'm not even sure if this can be changed on an app-pool level. I'm checking with CultureInfo.CurrentCulture.Name. Is it possible to change this for an application pool? Or what else could influence this? In the regional settings of the server, we have selected 'Dutch (Belgium)', which translates to nl-BE, I believe. So where could this application pool be getting the en-US?

  • Using Application Settings and reading defaults from app.config

    - by Peter Goras
Hi, I need to deploy a Windows Forms application using ClickOnce deployment. (VS2008, .NET 3.5) And I need to provide a configuration file for this app that any user can modify. For this reason, I am using Application Settings instead of standard appSetttings in app.config so I can separate the the user config from app config. see http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms228995(VS.80).aspx Creating a Settings.settings file using VS generated a class with hard-coded default values like this: [global::System.Configuration.DefaultSettingValueAttribute("blahblah")] public string MyProperty ... WTF? I want to read the default values from the app.config! So I created my own class deriving from ApplicationSettingsBase but I cannot get this to read values from the app.config. Any ideas?
