  • Putting together CSV Cells in Excel with a macro

    - by Eric Kinch
So, I have a macro to export data into CSV format and it's working great (Code at the bottom). The problem is the data I am putting into it. When I put the data in question in it comes out Firstname,Lastname, username, password, description I'd like to change it so I get Firstname Lastname,Firstname,Lastname, username, password, description What I'd like to do is manipulate my existing macro so to accomplish this. I'm not so good at VBS so any input or a shove in the right direction would be fantastic. Thanks! Sub Make_CSV() Dim sFile As String Dim sPath As String Dim sLine As String Dim r As Integer Dim c As Integer r = 1 'Starting row of data sPath = "C:\CSVout\" sFile = "MyText_" & Format(Now, "YYYYMMDD_HHMMSS") & ".CSV" Close #1 Open sPath & sFile For Output As #1 Do Until IsEmpty(Range("A" & r)) 'You can also Do Until r = 17 (get the first 16 cells) sLine = "" c = 1 Do Until IsEmpty(Cells(1, c)) 'Number of Columns - You could use a FOR / NEXT loop instead sLine = sLine & """" & Replace(Cells(r, c), ";", ":") & """" & "," c = c + 1 Loop Print #1, Left(sLine, Len(sLine) - 1) 'Remove the trailing comma r = r + 1 Loop Close #1 End Sub

  • How do I detect a Word table with (horizontally) merged cells?

    - by Reuben
When a Word table contains horizontally merged cells, accessing aTable.Columns.First or performing a For Each over aTable.Columns will result in an error. Is there a way to determine if a table contains horizontally merged cells without resulting in an error? I've read Determine if a Word cell is merged, but that is about detecting if a particular Word table cell is merged, rather than does the whole table have any merged cells.

  • In MS Access form, how to color background of selected record?

    - by PowerUser
I have a somewhat complicated looking Access Form with a continuous display (meaning multiple records are shown at once). I'd like to change the background color of the selected record only so the end-user can easily tell which record they are on. I'm thinking of perhaps a conditional format or maybe something like this: Private Sub Detail_HasFocus() Detail.BackColor(me.color)=vbBlue End Sub and something similar for when that row loses focus. This code snippet obviously won't work, but it's the kind of code I'd like to achieve.

  • Designing a Chart that expands as more data is entered in Excel

    - by Matt Ridge
I have a worksheet that pulls data from another, it is designed to only show late jobs, and it works perfectly. I have it where it is broken down into quarters, and it gathers all this data and does everything I want. Except this one last bit... I want to have it where it shows charts, if there is data in said area the chart would self populate, otherwise it would be blank. If more data is entered into the range expand the chart accordingly. Attached is a simplified workbook with what it does, and what I'd like to see it do. I don't even know if this is possible... I thought if I wrote a script to make it so that the data changes with each addition it may fix my problem, but I'm not sure if that is the best way in this situation. https://dl.dropbox.com/u/3327208/Excel/Charts.xlsx

  • access custom group

    - by Carlos
I have my Access 2007 database configured to use "Custom" groups in the navigation pane. I've grouped all my tables in a way that makes sense. However, whenever I update a link table, it loses its grouping. I have not been able to find a way to avoid this. Since it seems to be unavoidable, I'd like to simply have a macro that adds the table back to the right group programatically. I have not found any examples on how to do this. Any suggestions?

  • How to execute stored procedure from Access using linked tables

    - by webworm
I have an Access 2003 database that connects to a SQL Server 2008 box via ODBC. The tables from SQL Server are connected as linked tables in Access. I have a stored procedure on the SQL Server that I am trying to execute via ADO code. The problem I have is that Access cannot seem to find the procedure. What do I have to do within Access to be able to execute this stored procedure? Some facts ... The stored procedure in question accepts one parameter which is an integer. The stored procedure returns a recordset which I am hoping to use as the datasource for a ListBox. Here is my ADO code in Access ... Private Sub LoadUserCaseList(userID As Integer) Dim cmd As ADODB.Command Set cmd = New ADODB.Command cmd.ActiveConnection = CurrentProject.Connection cmd.CommandType = adCmdStoredProc cmd.CommandText = "uspGetUserCaseSummaryList" Dim par As New ADODB.Parameter Set par = cmd.CreateParameter("userID", adInteger) cmd.Parameters.Append par cmd.Parameters("userID") = userID Dim rs As ADODB.Recordset Set rs = cmd.Execute() lstUserCases.Recordset = rs End Sub The error I get is "the microsoft jet database engine cannot find the input table or query "uspGetUserCaseSummaryList".

  • Make Excel Defined Names within a worksheet to be global

    - by idazuwaika
Hi, I wrote Powershell script to copy a worksheet from a workbook A to another workbook B. The worksheet contains define names for ranges within that sheet. Originally, the defined names are global in workbook A, ie. can be referenced from any worksheets within workbook A. But now, after copy to worksheet B, the defined names are limited to that worksheet only. How to I programmatically (via Powershell script preferably) make all those named range global i.e. can be referenced from all worksheets within workbook B. Some codes for clarity. #Script to update SOP from 5.1 to 5.2 $missing = [System.Type]::missing #Open files $excel = New-Object -Com Excel.Application $excel.Visible = $False $excel.DisplayAlerts = $False $newTemplate = "C:\WorkbookA.xls" $wbTemplate = $excel.Workbooks.Open($newTemplate) $oldSop = "C:\WorkbookB.xls" $wbOldSop = $excel.Workbooks.Open($oldSop) #Delete 'DATA' worksheet from old file $wsOldData = $wbOldSop.Worksheets.Item("DATA") $wsOldData.Delete() #Copy new 'DATA' worksheet to old file $wbTemplate.Worksheets.Item("DATA").Copy($missing,$wbOldSop.Worksheets.Item("STATUS")) #Save $wbOldSop.Save() $wbOldSop.Close() #Quit Excel $excel.Quit()

  • Using a CSV/Text-File as a RecordSource for a Report

    - by Falcon
I need an Access Report to use a CSV-File as a RecordSource. I have searched and tried many things, yet, I've found no way to achieve this. A temporary table in some other database is not an option. I've been trying to use a DAO RecordSet, but while I can read the RecordSet just fine I cannot set it as the report's RecordSet and I cannot use its Name as the RecordSource Property as both approaches lead to an error. Please help me find a way!

  • Excel macro to change external data query connections - e.g. point from one database to another

    - by Rory
I'm looking for a macro/vbs to update all the external data query connections to point at a different server or database. This is a pain to do manually and in versions of Excel before 2007 it sometimes seems impossible to do manually. Anyone have a sample? I see there are different types of connections 'OLEDB' and 'ODBC', so I guess I need to deal with different formats of connection strings?

  • casting BSTR as char* in a dll; different results depnding on VB/C# caller.

    - by Toby Wilson
I have a dll function that takes BSTR parameters. These are casted as char* before being used for other things. When the dll is called from VB code this works fine. However, when it is called from C# code, only the first character is pointed to. Both of these are excel addIns for Pre-2007 and 2007+ versions of Office, which call into a faster C++ AddIn. They actually call it directly, not through Excel. The VB function declaration looks like this: Private Declare Function Test Lib "ExcelAddIn.xll" (ByVal param As String) As String The C# function declaration looks like this: [DllImport("ExcelAddIn.xll", CharSet=CharSet.Ansi)] [return:MarshalAs(UnmanagedType.BStr)] private static extern string Test([MarshalAs(UnmanagedType.BStr)] string param); When debugging the dll and watching the input BSTR values, they appear to be correct from both; just the C# one only casts the first character. Charset=CharSet.Unicode makes no difference. Any ideas anyone?

  • How can I change my code in Excel 2003 to allow me to paste to multiple cells?

    - by PikeCoAL
Ran in to a little problem. If I try to paste to multiple cells that are in the range in the code below, I get a run time error 13, type mismatch. The cells in the range may have data other than X but I only want the hyperlink to appear if the cell contains X. It works fine if I just type an X in the cell or if I paste to one cell at a time. I will have times when I want to paste other text to mutiple cells in this range. Thanks to Remnant for his help on the original code. This one last hurdle will put me in the clear. Thx. Private Sub Worksheet_Change(ByVal Target As Range) Dim rangeLimit As Range Set rangeLimit = Range ("B9:B37,C9:C37,D9:D37,E9:E37,F9:F37,G9:G37,H9:H37,I9:I37,J9:J37,K9:K37,L9:L37,M9:M37") If Not Intersect(rangeLimit, Target) Is Nothing Then If Target = "x" Or Target = "X" Then Target.Hyperlinks.Add Anchor:=Target, Address:="", SubAddress:="Exceptions!A1", TextToDisplay:=Target.Value End If End If End Sub

  • Fastest way to get an Excel Range of Rows

    - by gayan
In a VSTO C# project I want to get a range of rows from a set of row indexes. The row indexes can be for example like "7,8,9,12,14". Then I want the range "7:9,12,14" rows. I now do this: Range rng1 = sheet.get_Range("A7:A9,A12,A14", Type.Missing); rng1 = rng1.EntireRow; But it's a bit inefficient due to string handling in range specification. sheet.Rows["7:9"] works but I can't give this sheet.Rows["7:9,12,14"] // Fails
