• Sun webstack vs Installing PHP, MySQL, Apache individually

- by Vincent
Is it possible to install PHP, MySQL, Apache individually on Solaris instead of installing them through a webstack? What are the advantages and disadvantages? I seem to frequently get a CURL error on Solaris when dealing with HTTPS sites. (error:81072080:lib(129):func(114):reason(128). I have no clue why that error is occuring and thought it might solve it, if I upgrade to latest PHP,MySQL,Apache versions. At this point I am not even sure if it's a Solaris issue. Any advice? Thanks

• Controlling Windows Media Player through PHP / batch files

- by Duroth
I'm currently writing a tiny webapp for my HTPC (actually, a PC serving as both a media player and web- / fileserver) that will allow me to remotely control the playing of audio, without having to turn on my TV just to switch songs. I'm using Windows Media Player as my audio player of choice, and I thought I could control it through PHP's COM Class. Unfortunately, I've not been able to find any documentation or examples on controlling WMP through this interface. Can anyone point me in the right direction here? A second (and much less preferable) solution would be to use PHP's exec() call to start batch files that, in turn, control WMP.

• Php getting too many connections error from MySQL

- by uzioriluzan
Hello everyone, I am using MySQL and PHP with 2 application servers and 1 database server. With the increase of the number of users (around 1000 by now), I'm getting the following error : SQLSTATE[08004] [1040] Too many connections The parameter "max_connections" is set to "1000" in my.cnf and "mysql.max_persistent" is set to -1 in php.ini. There are at most 1500 apache processes running at a time since the "MaxClients" apache parameter is equal to 750 and we have 2 application servers. Should I raise the "max_connections" to 1500 as indicated in here? Or should I set "mysql.max_persistent" to 750 (we use PDO with persistent connections for performance reasons since the database server is not the same as the application servers)? Or should I try something else? Thanks in advance!

• PHP: Safe way to store decryptable passwords

- by Jammer
I'm making an application in PHP and there is a requirement that it must be possible to decrypt the passwords in order to avoid problems in the future with switching user database to different system. What encryption/decryption algorithm would you suggest? Is it good idea to just store the encrypted value and then compare the future authentication attempts to that value? Are the passwords still as safe as MD5/SHA1 when the private key is not available to the attacker (Hidden in USB drive for example)? I should still use salting, right? What encryption libraries should I use for PHP?

• Deserialising Json to derived types in Asp.Net Web API

- by IoChaos
I'm calling a method of my WebAPI sending a json that I would like to match (or bind) with a model. In the controller I have a method like: public Result Post([ModelBinder(typeof(CustomModelBinder))]MyClass model); 'MyClass', wich is given as a parameter is an abstract class. I would like that at, depending of the type of json passed, the correct inherited class is instantiated. To achieve it, I'm trying to implement a custom binder. The problem is that (I don't know if it's very basic but I can't find anything) I don't know how to retrieve the raw Json (or better, some kind of serialization) that comes in the request. I see: actionContext.Request.Content But all methods are exposed as async. I don't know who this fits with passing the generate model to the controller method... Thanks a lot!

• How to change PHP's eregi to preg_match

- by jasondavis
I need help, below is a small VERY basic regex to somewhat validate an email, I do realize it does not work the greatest but for my needs it is ok for now. It currently uses PHP's eregi function which php.net says is now a depreciated function and I should use preg_match instead, simply replacing erei with preg_match does not work, can someone show me how to make it work? function validate_email($email) { if (!eregi("^[[:alnum:]][a-z0-9_.-]*@[a-z0-9.-]+\.[a-z]{2,4}$", $email)) { echo 'bad email'; } else { echo 'good email'; } } function validate_email($email) { if (!preg_match("^[[:alnum:]][a-z0-9_.-]*@[a-z0-9.-]+\.[a-z]{2,4}$", $email)) { echo 'bad email'; } else { echo 'good email'; } }

• Ampersand in JSON/PHP in POST

- by svenkapudija
I'm having a text field which is send via JSON and jQuery (wrapped with .toJSON function) to my server via AJAX and POST request. On PHP side I'm doing json_decode . Everything works but if I put ampersand (&) inside it splits up the POST parameter so its incomplete on PHP side (at least what var_dump($_POST) is writing out). Shouldn't the toJSON and json_decode do all the job (escaping)? I tried encodeURIComponent, & to &, & to \u0026 and it's not working. What I'm doing wrong? AJAX call function execute() { this.setupUrl(); return $.ajax({ type: this.requestMethod, data: this.getDataParams(), url: this.url }); } function getDataParams() { if(this.data != undefined) { if(this.requestMethod == 'POST' || this.requestMethod == 'PUT') { return "data=" + $.toJSON(this.data); } else if (this.requestMethod == 'GET') { return this.data; } } else { return null; } }

• How to determine MIME Type set by htaccess in PHP

- by Ed Marty
I have a .htaccess file set up to define specific MIME types in directory root/a/b/, and all of the files are in the same directory. I have a php file that wants to serve those files, in directory root/c/, and needs to determine the content-type as defined by the .htaccess file. Is there any way to do this? PHP version is 5.1.6. mime_content_type returns text/plain, and I'd rather not try to parse the .htaccess file manually. I can move the file if necessary.

• PHP upload to GoDaddy hosted site

- by 105894384987190582154
Hi, relatively new to both hosting and PHP, so apologies for (probably) missing the obvious, but… I built a page which would allow file uploads to my site, following the example laid out here: W3Schools PHP upload exercise Through the File Manage on my Godaddy hosting, I created a folder named ’upload’ so that the file would land there after being uploaded through the page I had built. Part of the returned page that appears after submitted the file reads: Temp file: d:temptmpphpE4C9.tmp Stored in: upload/testfile.txt which would indicate that the file has been sucesscully uploaded given the code in the example. However, I cannot see the file in the ’upload’ folder via my File Manage, or anywhere else on the hosting of my site (as far as I can see). I also cannot see the ’temp’ folder anywhere either… Any help or clarification would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Tim

• PHP mail sending duplicates with different timestamp

- by brhea
Hi all, I've got a PHP/AJAX form on my site at http://www.brianrhea.com (click Request Project) When I test the form from multiple computers, it works fine for me. However, I will sporadically receive a duplicate e-mail and have heard from at least one user who tried to submit that it gave them an alert error which I am unable to duplicate. This is the PHP that I'm using. Is there anything that stands out as a potential issue? <?php //Retrieve form data. //GET - user submitted data using AJAX //POST - in case user does not support javascript, we'll use POST instead $name = ($_GET['name']) ? $_GET['name'] : $_POST['name']; $email = ($_GET['email']) ?$_GET['email'] : $_POST['email']; $subject = ($_GET['subject']) ?$_GET['subject'] : $_POST['subject']; $comments = ($_GET['comments']) ?$_GET['comments'] : $_POST['comments']; //flag to indicate which method it uses. If POST set it to 1 if ($_POST) $post=1; //Simple server side validation for POST data, of course, you should validate the email if (!$name) $errors[count($errors)] = 'Please enter your name.'; if (!$email) $errors[count($errors)] = 'Please enter your email.'; if (!$subject) $errors[count($errors)] = 'Please choose a subject.'; if (!$comments) $errors[count($errors)] = 'Please enter your comments.'; //if the errors array is empty, send the mail if (!$errors) { //recipient $to = '[email protected]'; //sender $from = $name . We have received your message.'; else echo 'Please verify that you have entered a valid email address.'; //else if GET was used, return the boolean value so that //ajax script can react accordingly //1 means success, 0 means failed } else { echo $result; } //if the errors array has values } else { //display the errors message for ($i=0; $i<count($errors); $i++) echo $errors[$i] .
