  • Windows HPC Server 08 suitability for Matlabs

    I want to setup another Hyper-V VM for installing Matlabs/doing some compute-intensive programming using C. I keep thinking that Windows Server HPC 2008 is designed for this sort of work. Would I be on the right track to setup a single VM with this OS and install this software? Or is HPC more for grid/distributed computing? Thanks

  • Icons in windows 8 changed automatically

    The icons of my folders in Windows 8 have changed automatically ! Now it is similar to that of the Unknown File Type icon. My C: drive icon and some icons in the Explorer-Home menu had also changed, but they became normal after a restart. But the folder icons (Medium Size) don't change. This is also seen in the "Save Dialog"-box. Please help, Thanks in advance... Here are the Images: (originals Image 1 , Image 2)

    I have a number of scheduled tasks which simply open a web page in Windows Server 2008 R2. They used to run and end without abending, but now they open and stay open and I have to setup the task to quit them by force before their next scheduled run. I've thought about installing CURL or WGET, but is there a way to do this with R2 without going to that step? Regards.

    I have a VMware Workstation 10.0 installation with several virtual networks including the default host-only and NAT networks. After upgrading to Windows 8.1, the NAT network was not working. I booted an Ubuntu VM with the default network setup that was previously working, and it sat for a long time during startup saying it was waiting for the network. After it finally started up, an ifconfig showed no IP address for eth0. How can I fix the broken network?

    There are times when instead of scrolling vertically in file explorer I accidentally move a folder to within another folder. Great! It happens so quick I don't know which folder was moved and this means I just screwed up an application installation. Is there a way to undo this operation?   • Is there a way to password protect a windows application on Windows 7 without changing the exe?

    I want to password-protect a few applications (not just files/folders) on Windows 7, such that, there is no change to the protected application's .exe file itself. Since the .exe files can't be changed, "Empathy" and "Protect Exe" can't be used as they change the .exe file. I tried using WinGuard Pro and LockThis! also but they don't work for Microsoft Outlook and some other apps (that I need). Is it possible at all? Please help.

    Is it possible to setup one single machine with Windows 7 x64 OS and somehow make it work as if it's part of a certain domain? So domain controller would be simulated in some way? I would like to avoid VMs and make it actually work on one machine with non server OS. Is there even a simpler way of doing it? However, I want this to only trigger if the active window is an Explorer window.     RE: Putting this out there in case someone else runs into this issue. The intel chipset is on-board. I discovered the reason for the crappy resolution in windows 7 was that the memory to share with the video card was set to 1MB in the BIOS.   • Windows CHKDSK starts when 6 seconds have passed

    After reading this thread I might have sorted out why the CHKDSK-prompt starts. But the biggest problem is that when it prompts me with Press any key with in 10..0 seconds, nothing happens until the timer hits 6, then it starts the check even though I've pressed any button (and yet it's 4 seconds left). This question states the problem as it appears at me, though the answer is wrong. Why does the actual check start after 6 seconds, and is there any way to disable it from within Windows?
