  • Computer "Server"

    so at home we had the idea of instead of buying 3 different pc's we would somehow create a "server" for the computers where a cable would come to our screens and keyboard and mouses, so the actual pc was somewhere else in the house with all the others. Does such a thing exist? And is it possible to have such a thing for high performance workflow? (Compiling, High-End Games, just as if it was a separate pc )

  • Icons in windows 8 changed automatically

    The icons of my folders in Windows 8 have changed automatically ! Now it is similar to that of the Unknown File Type icon. My C: drive icon and some icons in the Explorer-Home menu had also changed, but they became normal after a restart. But the folder icons (Medium Size) don't change. This is also seen in the "Save Dialog"-box. Please help, Thanks in advance... Here are the Images: (originals Image 1 , Image 2)

  • Installing ArchLinux into Ubuntu 12.04 root

    Is it possible to install 2 linux distros into 1 root, so they share same uuid and guid, configs and packages + same user /home folder ? For example: I have Ubuntu and Windows 7 already in dual boot on my laptop. Could I install Arch's base, base-devel and kernel, so it won't conflict with Ubuntu on the same root folder? P.S I don't feel like repartitioning my drive again, 'cause there's very complicated hierarchy, which occupies the entire disk. =)

  • Sleep uses more power than I expect

    When my new Dell laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium and 4GB RAM sleeps (not when it hibernates), it will drain the battery overnight. My old Dell laptop with XP Pro (2 GB RAM) could sleep for days without running out of battery. Is it normal that Windows 7 sleep is this power-hungry or should I troubleshoot my new machine? Edit: I know how to set the different sleep/hibernate settings. That is not what I'm asking.

  • VNC connection through machine with only SSH port open

    I would like to make a VNC connection from home to a Windows machine at work. The Windows machine is not accessible from the outside, but there is a Linux box that does have port 22 open, so it would seem that this can be done. I suspect it's just a command that "forwards" connections to port 22 on the Linux machine to the Windows machine? Just can't find an example that does exactly this though Thanks in advance!

  • Cannot see folders on my external drive [closed]

    I have a Windows Vista Home Premium machine, and am using a WD portable drive. My external drive is showing that it is occupying space, but I am no longer able to see any of my folders in there. Out of the 1 TB, its shows that 600 gigs are free, but the folders are gone! Please suggest some way of retrieving the files (I think they're must be some way to retireve them, since the disk utilization shows that something is on the disk). Appreciate your help!

  • Can I access mac iTunes library from an iPad?

    Can I access my iMac based iTunes library from my iPad over my home wifi? I know I can sync them up but the library is too big. Edit; just to clear(er), the movies, podcasts etc which are stored on the iMac, I want to watch them on my iPad without syncing. I know I can create playlist to sync a subset of my library, but that is not what I want. What I'm thinking about is using my iPad as a kind of portable apple TV.

The difference I can see is that my dual-core is 2.8GHz and my quad-core is 2.4GHz. Is it better to have a dual-core with a fast clock speed or a quad-core with a mediocre clock speed?

One option is the smallest of the Amazon cloud machines. The question becomes can I make one of these machines a domain controller? Cost wise the Amazon machine is cheaper than the power costs of keeping a server (or a PC) up and running in his home office 24x7 thanks to the high cost of power in Southern California.

    Hello, I had a system running Win 7 Home premium and ubuntu 10.04, side by side dual boot.I got an ubuntu 10.10 image disk so I decided to update.But during the installation I think I made a mistake by specifying the whole partition, and after installation of ubuntu 10.10 I saw that my windows and all the other data was gone.there was around 250GB of it.Is there any way I can recover this data??I had a lot of irreplacable photos and collections on the drive.I do have a recovery cd for my windows, but it does not detect any windows os.thanku very much.     My church uses ProPresenter for our Sunday morning presntations. Unfortunately, I get the ProPresenter decks from the minister and worship leader midway through the week and have no way to read them at home on my PC. It would be easier if I could set things up and edit them (or at least have an idea of what's in the deck) before Sunday morning. I know ProPresenter can import from PowerPoint, but can the import go the other way as well? Is there a way to read ProPresenter files (.prox) without ProPresenter?
