  • Can I push my working directory without first committing it?

    - by Derek
I have my web server set up as a remote git repo, so I can type "git push staging" and my last commit goes live on the server. I used this tutorial to set this up. A lot of the time, I'm testing a new feature, and I want to test several iterations of it on the staging server, before it's ready to quality as a commit. Is there a way to push my working directory to the server without having to commit it first?

  • Debugging on the production server in Rails

    - by ming yeow
how do you effectively debug on live server in rails, whether on a beta/production server? I tried modifying the file directly on the server, and restarting the app, but the changes does not seem to take effect, or takes a long time to (caching?) I also tried to do "script/server production" locally, but that is very slow The other option is to code and deploy, but that is very inefficient. Anyone has any insights as to how they do this efficiently?

  • Push notification is successfully sent, but the device does not receive (occasionally)

    - by ashiina
I have been having a problem where some devices will not receive a push notification, since yesterday. The certificate / devicetoken seem to be correct, since the device used to successfully receive push notifications until yesterday. On the server-side, there are no errors or connection refusals, and the push notification seems to be successfully sent every time. But still, there are many occasions where the device does not correctly receive the push. Some surrounding information: I am doing this on the production environment. No errors / connection refusals on the server-side I am sending the exactly same JSON everytime. 2 of our devices are not receiving the push notification AT ALL since yesterday 1 of our device receives push notifications at a lower success rate (about 70%) than yesterday 1~2 of our devices still receive push notifications successfully even now. All of the above devices were able to receive push notifications properly on the production environment until yesterday. There is no difference in the server-side result for when the push is successful, and when the device doesn't receive it... Therefore it is virtually impossible to identify the problem. This is the server-side PHP code I am using: $ctx = stream_context_create(); stream_context_set_option($ctx, 'ssl', 'local_cert', $this->apnsData[$development]['certificate']); $fp = stream_socket_client($this->apnsData[$development]['ssl'], $error, $errorString, 100, (STREAM_CLIENT_C ONNECT|STREAM_CLIENT_PERSISTENT), $ctx); if(!$fp){ $this->_pushFailed($pid); $this->_triggerError("Failed to connect to APNS: {$error} {$errorString}."); } else { $msg = chr(0).pack("n",32).pack('H*',$token).pack("n",strlen($message)).$message; $fwrite = fwrite($fp, $msg); if(!$fwrite) { error_log("[APNS] push failed..."); $this->_pushFailed($pid); $this->_triggerError("Failed writing to stream.", E_USER_ERROR); } else { error_log("[APNS] push successful! ::: $token -> $message ($fwrite bytes)"); } } fclose($fp); The log tells me that the push was successful (Cutting out the token for privacy) : [Wed Dec 12 11:42:00 2012] [error] [client 10.161.6.177] [APNS] push successful! ::: aa4f******44 -> {"aps":{"alert":{"body":"\\u300casdfasdf\\u300d","action-loc-key":"OK"},"badge":4,"sound":"chime"}} (134 bytes) Is there any way I can get help on this problem? Or is there anybody who is having the same problem?? Please help! I am getting complaints from some users on this....

  • Git versus Mercurial for .NET developers?

    - by jwanagel
I've been wondering what is the better DVCS for .NET developers? From reading various information it has sounded like Mercurial works better on Windows, but other information claims that Git has caught up and surpassed Mercurial in offering quality Windows and Visual Studio tools. Does anyone have good recent information or experience with trying both in a .NET development environment?

  • Who use syslog for logging his web application

    - by user137246
I was wondering if somebody use syslog to log his web application errors/warning/info ? It could be quite useful in a deployment environment with a lot of servers. If yes, what kind of client visualisation you can get to watch errors and grouping the same errors into batch? Do you use other techniques than syslog to achieve this kind of logging functionality?

  • Generic DRM (Distributed resource management) wrapper

    - by Pavel Bernshtam
I need to write a software, which launches DRM jobs in a customer environment and monitors those jobs status. It should work with various customer environments and DRMs - like LSF, Sun Grid and others. Can you recommend some 3rd party library, which hides DRM differences from me and has API like "launch job", "get list of jobs", "get job status" etc. ? Both Java and native libraries are good for me.

  • How can I interpolate literal \t and \n in Perl strings?

    - by Michael
Say I have an environment variable myvar: myvar=\tapple\n When the following command will print out this variable perl -e 'print "$ENV{myvar}"' I will literally have \tapple\n, however, I want those control chars to be evaluated and not escaped. How would I achieve it? In the real world $ENV residing in substitution, but I hope the answer will cover that.

  • Is there a way to reliably detect the total number of CPU cores?

    - by John Sheares
I need a reliable way to detect how many CPU cores are on a computer. I am creating a numerically intense simulation C# application and want to create the maximum number of running threads as cores. I have tried many of the methods suggested around the internet like Environment.ProcessorCount, using WMI, this code: http://blogs.adamsoftware.net/Engine/DeterminingthenumberofphysicalCPUsonWindows.aspx. None of them seem to think a AMD X2 has two cores. Any ideas?

  • Ordering of reflection requests in dotnet

    - by happyclicker
When I call GetProperties() on a type, the properties are ordered as they are written in the source code. This is very handy but my question is, if this is a guaranteed behavior or may this change depending on the runtime version and the environment. Does anyone know something about that?

  • Parsing complicated query parameters

    - by Will
My Python server receives jobs that contain a list of the items to act against, rather like a search query term; an example input: (Customer:24 OR Customer:24 OR (Group:NW NOT Customer:26)) To complicate matters, customers can join and leave groups at any time, and the job should be updated live when this happens. How is best to parse, apply and store (in my RDBMS) this kind of list of constraints?

  • Memcached for PHP 5.3

    - by Industrial
Hi everyone, I have looked everywhere for some clues on how to run the Memcached extension in my WAMP windows development environment (thats right, the memcached with an D in the end, not memcache). I already use memcache (without the D), but it would be handy to take part of memcached's more extended multiple-server features. How can I get this up and running? Thanks
