    As We are working on a asp .net project there three ways one can update data into database when there are multiple rows updation / insertion required Let's assume we need to update employee education detail (which could be 1,3,5 or 10 records) Method to Update Data Pass value as parameter (Traditional approach), If 10 records are there then 10 round trip required Pass data as xml and write logic inside your stored procedure to get that data from xml and update the table (only single roundtrip required) Use Table valued parameters (only single roundtrip required) Note : Data is available as List, so i need to convert it to xml or any other format if i need to pass. There are no. of places in entire application we need to update data in bulk (or multiple records) I just need your suggestions that Which method will be faster (please mention if there are some other overheads) Manageability or testability concern with any approach Any other bottleneck or issue with any of the approach (Serialization /Deserialization concern or limit on size of the data passing) Any other method you suggest for same operations Thanks

  • Linq 2 SQL using base class and WCF

    Hi all. I have the following problem: I'm using L2S for generating entity classes. All these classes share the same property ID which is autonumber. So I figured to put this property to base class and extend all entity classes from the base one. In order to be able to read the value I'm using the override modifier on this property in each and every entity class. Up to now it's live and kicking. Then I decided to introduce another tier - services using WCF approach. I've modified the Serialization mode to Unidirectional (and added the IsReference=true attribute to enable two directions), also added [DataContract] attribute to the BaseObject class. WCF is able to transport the whole object but one property , which is ID. Applying [DataMember] attribute on ID property at the base class resulted in nothing. Am I missing something? Is what I'm trying to achieve possible at all? I need to find what roles a logged on domain user has but all the calls to get the current user return the domain username eg. "MYDOMAIN\username" not the database username eg. "MYDOMAIN\Domain Users". For example, this query returns "MYDOMAIN\username" select original_login(),suser_name(), suser_sname(), system_user, session_user, current_user, user_name() And this query returns 0 select USER_ID() I want the username to query database_role_members is there any fuction that will return it or any other way I can get the current users roles?

How do I find out, if the user owns an entire street? street table with columns (id/name) house table with columns (id/street_id [foreign key] owner table with columns (id/house_id/user_id) [join table with foreign keys] So far, I'm using count which returns the result: select count(*), street_id from owner left join house on owner.house_id = house.id group by street_id where user_id = 1 count(*) | street_id 3 | 1 2 | 2 A more general count: select count(*) from house group by street_id returns: count(*) | street_id 3 | 1 3 | 2 How can I find out, that user 1 owns the entire street 1 but not street 2?     So, I just learned about CURSORS but still don't exactly grasp them. What is the difference between a cursor and procedure or even a function? So far from the various examples (DECLARE CURSOR ... SELECT ... FROM ...) It seems at most its a variable to hold a query. Is the data real time, or a snapshot of when the cursor was declared? i.e. I have a table with one row and one col with a value of 2. I do DECLARE CURSOR ... SELECT * FROM table1 I then insert a new row with a value of 3. When I run the cursor, would I Just get the one row from before the cursor was declared, or both rows? Thanks

    Pretend I have a cupcake_rating table: id | cupcake | delicious_rating -------------------------------------------- 1 | Strawberry | Super Delicious 2 | Strawberry | Mouth Heaven 3 | Blueberry | Godly 4 | Blueberry | Super Delicious I want to find all the cupcakes that have a 'Super Delicious' AND 'Mouth Heaven' rating. I feel like this is easily achievable using a group by clause and maybe a having. I was thinking: select distinct(cupcake) from cupcake_rating group by cupcake having delicious_rating in ('Super Delicious', 'Mouth Heaven') I know I can't have two separate AND statements. I was able to achieve my goal using: select distinct(cupcake) from cupcake_rating where cupcake in ( select cupcake from cupcake_rating where delicious_rating = 'Super Delicious' ) and cupcake in ( select cupcake from cupcake_rating where delicious_rating = 'Mouth Heaven' ) This will not be satisfactory because once I add a third type of rating I am looking for, the query will take hours (there are a lot of cupcake ratings).

  • Powershell scripts to backup SQL, SVN

    I'm trying to use PowerShell to create some backups, and then to copy these to a web folder (or, in other words, upload them to a WebDAV share). At first I thought I'd do the WebDAV stuff from within PowerShell, but it seems this still requires a fair amount of "manual labour", ie: constructing HTTP requests. I then settled for creating a web folder from the script and letting Windows handle the WebDAV stuff. It seems that all it takes to create a web folder is to create a standard shortcut, as described here. What I can't figure out is how to actually copy files to the shortcut's target..? Maybe I'm going about this the wrong way. It would be ideal if I could somehow encrypt the credentials for the WebDAV in the script, then have it create the web folder, shunt over the files, and delete the web folder again. Or even better, not use a web folder at all. Third option would be to just create the web folder manually and leave it there, though I'd rather not. Any ideas/pointers/tips? :)

The fist part which may be 1, 2, 3, 4 or even five digits represent the accumulation of Hours and then seperated by a colon. then come the second part which is accumulation of minutes and last accumulation of seconds (2 digits each). How to convert this to integer in one query if possile.

  • Comparison operators not supported for type IList when Paging data in Linq to Sql

    I can understand what the error is saying - it can't compare a list. Not a problem, other than the fact that I don't know how to not have it compare a list when I want to page through a model with a list as a property. My Model: Event : IEvent int Id string Title // Other stuff.. LazyList<EventDate> Dates // The "problem" property Method which pages the data (truncated): public JsonResult JsonEventList(int skip, int take) { var query = _eventService.GetEvents(); // Do some filtering, then page data.. query = query.Skip(skip).Take(take); return Json(query.ToArray()); } As I said, the above is truncated quite a bit, leaving only the main point of the function: filter, page and return JSON'd data. The exception occurs when I enumerate (.ToArray()). The Event object is really only used to list the common objects of all the event types (Meetings, Birthdays, etc - for example). It still implements IEvent like the other types, so I can't just remove the LazyList<EventDate> Dates' property unless I no longer implementIEvent` Anyway, is there a way to avoid this? I don't really want to compare a LazyList when I page, but I do not know how to resolve this issue. Thank you in advance! :)

    I have two tables of concern here: users and race_weeks. User has many race_weeks, and race_week belongs to User. Therefore, user_id is a fk in the race_weeks table. I need to perform some challenging math on fields in the race_weeks table in order to return users with the most all-time points. Here are the fields that we need to manipulate in the race_weeks table. races_won (int) races_lost (int) races_tied (int) points_won (int, pos or neg) recordable_type(varchar, Robots can race, but we're only concerned about type 'User') Just so that you fully understand the business logic at work here, over the course of a week a user can participate in many races. The race_week record represents the summary results of the user's races for that week. A user is considered active for the week if races_won, races_lost, or races_tied is greater than 0. Otherwise the user is inactive. So here's what we need to do in our query in order to return users with the most points won (actually net_points_won): Calculate each user's net_points_won (not a field in the DB). To calculate net_points, you take (1000 * count_of_active_weeks) - sum(points__won). (Why 1000? Just imagine that every week the user is spotted a 1000 points to compete and enter races. We want to factor-out what we spot the user because the user could enter only one race for the week for 100 points, and be sitting on 900, which we would skew who actually EARNED the most points.) This one is a little convoluted, so let me know if I can clarify further.

  • Microsoft SQL Server 2008 - 99% fragmentation on non-clustered, non-unique index

    I have a table with several indexes (defined below). One of the indexes (IX_external_guid_3) has 99% fragmentation regardless of rebuilding/reorganizing the index. Anyone have any idea as to what might cause this, or the best way to fix it? We are using Entity Framework 4.0 to query this, the EF queries on the other indexed fields about 10x faster on average then the external_guid_3 field, however an ADO.Net query is roughly the same speed on both (though 2x slower than the EF Query to indexed fields).
