  • ANy way to fix the position of image

    I have an image on the left hand side and text on right side. Like two column layout. I want that when i scroll the text then the image should stay at center of page. I tried using position:fixed But then the problem , sometimes when i resize the IE window to small size then the image stay at same position and it comes out of the main content area when i scroll down. I want that image should scroll but should stay within the content area . It should not move outsid ethe main content aqrea

  • Retain Site Background and Switch Pages?

    I was about to redo a Rails site today using AJAX so that the background could remain in place. Then I thought, "that would be exactly like using frames," and then I thought about SEO consequences and I dropped the idea entirely and took a look around the Web. It turns out that few sites -- except for Google itself, which has the link bar at the top -- are doing this. It doesn't look impossible to do, but it's not exactly easy. Aside from Ajaxing, you have to think about updating the query-string and having SEO-friendly links (that actually don't work, but rather make background requests via Javascript). Will any of the new technologies -- HTML5, perhaps -- solve this problem and allow us to have a Web with background colors (and other static elements) that do not disappear momentarily between page refreshes? On the other hand, why are few devs doing this with current technologies? Is it just not a big deal, too complicated to implement, or....?

  • Can I define which characters are allowed to 'break' a word?

    Hey guys, I'm showing up veeeery long URLs in my Safari extension. Obviously, they can't fit on a single line. Currently, word breaking rules make it so most URLs are on two lines: the first one is rather short and ends with the ? symbol, and the other is ridiculously long and contains all the rest of the GET parameters. I'd like to make it so words also break on the & symbol, without screwing up copy-paste if possible. I've tried to replace every & with &\u00ad (& + the soft hyphen character), but it's kind of weird to see the hyphen after the & when there really isn't any in the URL. I thought there was something in store with CSS3 for that kind of problem, but I can't find it. Any suggestion welcome, as long as it works with Safari.

  • Array of Sentences?

    Javascript noob here.... I am trying to build a site that will help my kids read predefined sentences from a select group, then when a button is clicked it will display one of the sentences. Is an array the best option for this? For example, I have this array (below) and on the click of a button I would like one of these sentences to appear on the page. <script type="text/javascript"> Sentence = new Array() Sentence[0]='Can we go to the park.'; Sentence[1]='Where is the orange cat? Said the big black dog.'; Sentence[2]='We can make the bird fly away if we jump on something.' Sentence[3]='We can go down to the store with the dog. It is not too far away.' Sentence[4]='My big yellow cat ate the little black bird.' Sentence[5]='I like to read my book at school.' Sentence[6]='We are going to swim at the park.' </script> Again, is an array the best for this and how could I get the sentence to display?   • Matching a String and then incrementing a number within HTML elements

    Hello all, I have tags in a html list, here is an example of two tags. <div class="tags"> <ul> <li> <a onclick="tag_search('tag1');" href="#">tag1 <span class="num-active">1</span></a> </li> <li> <a onclick="tag_search('tag2');" href="#">tag2 <span class="num-active">1</span></a> </li> </ul> </div> I would like to write a function that I can pass a string to, that will match the strings in the a hyperlink i.e. "tag1" or "tag2", if there is a match then increment the number in the span, if not then add a new li. The bit I am having trouble with is how do I search for a string in the div with class tags and then when I find a match identifying the element. I can't even do the first bit as I am use to using an ID or a Class.     Hi, I am creating a cookie in a jsp script, which is located at: www.myproject.com/login/index.jsp if I restart the browser and navigate there, all works well, I can see the cookie persist. If I navigate to: www.myproject.com I am not seeing the cookie. Do I need to set something in the cookie path or domain to make the cookie visible to the entire [myproject.com] domain (I just want to access the cookie from whatever sub path the user may be on).   • Saving PHP Table as CSV

    I have been looking everywhere for a way to do this. There are a lot of people that have asked the questions but when I try myself i cant seem to get it to work. Often I get the format correct but it inputs the information into a new page instead of saving it. I did manage to get one to work for google chrome but when i ran it in internet explorer it didnt work. I have a table being created from a MYSQL query and i would like the table to be able to be saved as a CSV. Could anyone help me out?

I have some markup that looks like this: <div id="blah"> <div class="level2"> <input type="text" /> </div> <div class="levelA"> <div class="level2"> <input type="text" value="foo"/> </div> </div> </div> <input type="text" value="bar" /> I want for the 3 inputs to say Hello Foo Bar so I have this line of jquery: $('#blah .level2 input').val('hello'); the problem now is that jquery is a bit too liberal in it's pattern matches and matches both the first and second.     Hi All, I want to upload files to a server which is also owned by me. I could think of two ways, of how this can be achieved. Method1: Use HTTP POST request to upload the files. The standard way of uploading files. Method2: Its a two step process. First the client does a POST request with all the details of the file, to the server. Then the server issues Get request(s) onto the client to get the contents of the file. Here method2 seems to be more secure, as the server is in control. The server can request data from the server only when the server feels it to be appropriate, and restrict the amount of data that needs to be transferred. Still i am confused as i am not an expert in this area. Anyone with more hindsight thoughts on this can you please share. Thanks

  • Firefox 17.0.1 ignoring font-weight

    http://iamsinc.com/blog/new-producer-bonus/ For some reason Firefox 17.0.1 on my Windows 7 machine is ignoring the font-weight of the td elements. It should be normal. This works fine in Chrome, IE 7 8, & 9, but not in FF. I have also tested it on an XP machine running 17.0.1 and it works fine. The font-weight should be normal, not bold. In the second box down ($300k level), the font-weight is showing up as bold on Win 7 FF 17.0.1 which pushes the pictures outside of the box. I have even tried reducing the font-weight waaay down and it has not effect on the problematic FF browser Does anybody have a solution or even a work-around? I hate to make the pictures all smaller just to work around this. Thanks!
