• Visual Studio 2008 Crashes When Opening Project Properties

  I have a multi-project .NET application which I am developing in Visual Studio 2008. If I try to open the project properties for one of my projects (to change settings or publish) Visual Studio immediately closes. There is no prompt to send a report to Microsoft, and two consecutive errors logged in the Event Viewer: .NET Runtime version 2.0.50727.3053 - Fatal Execution Engine Error (7A035E00) (80131506) .NET Runtime version 2.0.50727.3053 - Fatal Execution Engine Error (7A2E0F92) (0) If I delete all the .user and .suo files in my solution, I can once again publish and access project properties. The error, however, returns over time. This seems to suggest that the .suo or .user files are getting corrupted by Visual Studio. Has anyone else had this issue or know how to fix the problem?

• Why does my 64-bit IIS app pool show 3 gigabytes more virtual memory than private memory?

  I have an ASP.Net application that I am running on 64-bit IIS 6 on Windows XP x64. When I open performance counters after one page hit of a trivial page, I see a Private Bytes of about 88 megs, but a Virtual Bytes of about 3 Gigs. When I try the same thing with a VERY trivial ASP.Net app, I get the same result. We see something similar on Windows Server 2003 in production -- there it is an issue because we recycle when the virtual memory consumed outgrows a limit. Before we make any changes to our recycling settings, we'd like to answer the following questions: Why does the app pool grab such a large hunk of virtual memory? Is the amount of virtual memory headroom the app requests configurable? Thanks! Brett

• django return file over HttpResonse - file is not served correctly

  I want to return some files in a HttpResponse and I'm using the following function. The file that is returned always has a filesize of 1kb and I do not know why. I can open the file, but it seems that it is not served correctly. • Facebook Connect - Mobile

  I am currently in the process of creating a mobile version of my web app. The app is being developed with Facebook's PHP Client Library. The issue: I am using the following mobile url to allow users to log in using the mobile devices: http://m.facebook.com/tos.php?api_key=APIKEY&v=1.0&next=http%3A%2F%2Ftweelay.net%2Fm.php&cancel=http%3A%2F%2Ftweelay.net%2Fm.php APIKEY being my app's actual Facebook API key. In the url I am telling Facebook to redirect the user back to http://tweelay.net/m.php when the user signs in or clicks cancel on the log in screen. I am pulling my hair trying to figure out why it keeps sending the user to http://m.tweelay.net/m.php which is currently an invalid end point. I have gone through all of my app's settings on Facebook and I cant find any that reference http://m.tweelay.net and going through all of my source code I cant find any that reference the m. sub-domain either.

• Does "Debug" invalidate ASP.Net MVC OutputCache?

  I have images stored in a database and am serving them from an MVC controller as "FileResult". If I run the MVC application from Visual Studio 2008 in debug mode and set a break point inside the controller method the debugger intercepts the call on every page refresh regardless of my "OutputCache" settings. Does the VS debugger invalidate the OutputCache or is there something else going on here? • Building a Universal iPad App - Where is the device recognition code?

  I noticed that when I create a new project in XCode for a Universal iPad/iPhone application, the template comes with two separate App Delegate files, one for each device. I can't seem to locate the place in code where it tries to decide which app delegate to use. I have an existing iPhone project I'd like to port to iPad. My thinking was that if I went ahead and designed the iPad project, I could just import my iPhone classes and nibs, and then use the App Delegate and UIDevice to decide which MainWindow.xib to load. The process went like this: Create an iPad project coded as a split-view create brand new classes and nibs for the iPad import iPhone classes and nibs Change build/target settings in accordance with Universal Apps Use [[UIDevice currentDevice] model] in the AppDelegate to decide which MainWindow to load Will this work, or does the app just automatically know which device it's being deployed on? • CentOS Client - Unable to Establish iSCSI connection with multiple interfaces on the initiator

  So after upgrading to CentOS 6.2, I am seemingly no longer able to login into my iSCSI targets. I have multiple interfaces on different subnets on the system, and I first thought that it had to do with the fact that I may not be binding correct interfaces, which seems to be the case when looking at netstat, as this is clearly wrong: [root]? netstat -na|grep .90 tcp 0 1 10.10.100.60:42354 10.10.8.90:3260 SYN_SENT tcp 0 1 10.10.100.60:40777 10.10.9.90:3260 SYN_SENT I then went ahead and disabled all but one interface, and so as a result netstat appears to be correct, but the issue with login remains. I am positive that the target never sees a packet, because I see nothing by SYN_SENT. I know the problem is on my client, because the target is servicing multiple systems, none of which are CentOS 6.2. At this point I am pretty confident that some things changed between CentOS 6.0/6.1 and 6.2. So, if anyone have any thoughts, or ran into this, I would very much like to hear your thoughts. I went a few weeks back and grabbed a snapshot of this system from before upgrading to 6.2. I spun up a new system from the snapshot, and reconfigured interface info and host keys, as well as iSCSI initiator and iscsi interface info to match new MACs. Changed nothing else. Then, I attempted to connect to my targets, and no issues at all. I cannot say that this was unexpected. I then went ahead and compared sysctl settings from both systems and there were differences after the upgrade, but nothing seemingly relevant to iSCSI or IP that could contribute to this. I also noticed that by default now two sessions per connection were enabled after the upgrade, but I changed it back to 1 session in /etc/iscsi/iscsid.conf. On the problematic system we can see that source interface is seemingly wrong, but even when I disable the 10.10.100 interface, problems persist. So, while this may be relevant, I could not validate it for certain. Needless to say, further research is necessary. Something is clearly different between releases. It is quite obscure and I doubt this will happen to anyone else any time soon. It turns out that setting iface.iscsi_ifacename and iface.hwaddress in the interfaces configuration file is not legal. When one manually adds an iscsi target, such as below, all settings from the interface config file are copied into the node config file, that gets created by the below command. Result is parameters iface.iscsi_ifacename and iface.hwaddress together in the same config file. These parameters are seemingly mutually exclusive, which does not exactly make sense, or there is perhaps an oversight in the codepath. • Is it possible to load ListPreference items from an adapter?

  I'm setting out to create a settings activity for my app. I've defined a PreferenceActivity with a nice layout including a ListPreference object for the user to select a bluetooth device. I'm having trouble dynamically populating the list. I would like to populate ListPreference with values from an array adapter (which I'll create and populate with relevant bluetooth device names). If this were a spinner View, I could just call setAdapter(). However with the ListPreference object I can't figure out how to attach an adapter (findviewByID won't cast from View To ListPreference, so I can't even get a handle to the object). I would like to attach an adapter and then populate the adapter with values, which in turn would populate the ListPreference with values.

• JDBC connections: How to specify the port for data-transfer?

  I wanto to run my JDBC-connection (either Oracle or MSSQL) through a proxy-server. Reason for this is to have additional controls of the traffic, especially for developing. I know, I could specify the proxy, which runs on my machine, and the port in the connection-string. But the specified connection-settings are only taken as some kind of handshake to agree on which port the data is finally transferred. And this is defenitly not the port which I have under proxy-control. So, does anybody have an idea, how to specify the port for the data-transfer? I would prefer if this could be done in the connection-string. The same issue applies for Oracle and MSSQL. Thx LeO

• Creating custom contact page -- page-contact.tpl.php (Drupal)

  I'm new to Drupal. I want to create a contact page, so I copied page.tpl.php and renamed it to page-contact.tpl.php. I created some new elements in the page, so I can see that if I click on the "contact" link, I'll know that I went to the correct page. Right now I don't see any change. Was there something I missed? Do I need to do something in the admin settings so Drupal knows which file I need to open? I also tried clearing my cache.

• How to control allowed HTML tags in WMD Editor?

  I am trying to some-how set the valid HTML tags and attributes users would be able to use in WMD Editor in my site. For example, I want to forbid the user to directly set the font size, color, typeface and so on, which is trivial to do with the default settings typing something like: <span style="font-size: 45px; color:#FF0000">Some intrusive text here</span>. I think the way to implement this is through the "wmd_options", but I have not found any documentation or reference regarding this, giving the fact that the 'Options demo' seems to be the only public documentation and it does not show how should I do what I have described above. • Xcode: gcc-4.2 failed with exit code 1

  Hi! I'm working on a game for the iPhone where I use the Oolong engine for rendering, and now I just tried to update my project to the newest version. However - now I get the following error when I try to compile: gcc-4.2 failed with exit code 1 in the build results I see in which cpp file the error happens, but I don't see any additional information. how can I get more info about what is going wrong in order to track down the problem? edit: after inspecting the compile output, i got the following lines, where the error occurs: {standard input}:61:selected processor does not support 'fmrx r0, fpscr' {standard input}:62:unshifted register required -- 'bic r0,r0,#0x00370000' ...somemorelines {standard input}:69:selected processor does not support 'fmxr fpscr,r0' this is some VFO code from one of the #include files. it works fine in the examples that come with the egnine. could there be something screwed up with my project settings? I compared them to the one of the example and they seem to be identical

  Hello, I would like to understand better exactly what is going on when Apache on linux receive an HTTP request in a process pre-fork model. Let's say we have 20 Apache child processes waiting. When I receive an HTTP request, is it true to say that 1 child process will be chosen to handle the request and that this process won't handle another request from another user until the first one is finished ? I am asking the question because of a PHP limitation that states : The locale information is maintained per process, not per thread. If you are running PHP on a multithreaded server API like IIS or Apache on Windows, you may experience sudden changes in locale settings while a script is running, though the script itself never called setlocale(). This happens due to other scripts running in different threads of the same process at the same time, changing the process-wide locale using setlocale(). Thanks Jerome Wagner

• How to use MSBuild to create ClickOnce files that match those created by Visual Studio

  I am trying to use MSBuild in a TFS Build file to create click once files for my application. According to MSDN (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms165431.aspx) it seems that the project file's click once settings should be used unless you override them with property arguments on the command line. However, even though I have specified (in VS) that some prerequisites should be bootstrapped in with the setup, they don't seem to get installed if I use the MSBuild command line to create the package, even though they do seem to get installed if I use Visual Studio to create the ClickOnce package. Please could someone advise me how to get my prerequisites to get installed via ClickOnce when the clickonce package is built using the MSBuild command line? For information, in Visual Studio, project properties, "Publish" tab, "Prerequisite" button, I have ticked "Create setup program to install prerequisite components", I have ticked my pre-requisites and I have specified "Download prerequisites from the component vendor's web site"

• Translate ImageButton from C# to XAML

  I worked out the C# code to create an ImageButton (below) that has three images (one base-image and two overlays) and three text boxes as the face of the button. I am inheriting from the Button class, which unfortunately includes several components that I didn't realize would surface until after coding and need to remove, namely the bright-blue surrounding border on IsMouseOver, and any visible borders between the buttons, as the buttons will end up in a wrapPanel and the borders need to be seamless. Now that the format has been worked out in C#, I expect that I need to translate to XAML so that I can create a ControlTemplate to get the functionality necessary, however I am not certain as to the process of translating from C# to XAML. I see the following around line 73: var tagMatches = document.createElement(settings.tagContainer); But where is it injecting it into the doc? I ask because I need to find a way to control where it goes based on an ID, something like this: document.body.insertBefore(newDiv, my_div); Thanks so much, and good luck, It's tricky!

• Debug.WriteLine not working

  In the past, perhaps versions of Visual Studio prior to the 2008 that I am using now, I would do something like this in my VB.NET code: System.Diagnostics.Debug.WriteLine("Message") ..and the output would go to the output window. Now it doesn't. Something must first apparently be enabled. If this involves "attaching a debugger", please explain how to do it. It seems to me that it should just work without too much of a fuss.   On iPhone, how do I show a login screen to get username and password before giving access to iPhone app? Also, does the iPhone store a cookie to the secure website like a web browser? I was thinking of giving users to my website a long API key to store in the settings of their iPhone instead of asking them to login with a username/password (seems to be the Slicehost iPhone app approach.) Which is the best way to get a user to login securely? I have full control over the design of the iPhone app and website so have a lot of flexibility.

I am using one textfield in the detail band when it has more information(words), it is displaying only some information.i.e the words are being cut off.   Objective: I have a list of header files (about 50 of them), And each header-file has few arrays with constant elements. I need to write a program to count the elements of the array. And create some other form of output (which will be used by the hardware group). My solution: I included all the 50 odd files and wrote an application. And then I dumped all the elements of the array into the specified format. My environment: Visual Studio V6, Windows XP My problem: Each time there is a new set of Header files, I am now changing the VC++ project settings to point to the new set of header files, and then rebuild. My question: A bit in-sane though, Is there any way to mention the header from some command line arguments or something? I just want to avoid re-compiling the source every time...

  Hi, I am writing clients in Java that store the data on a database server. So far, the IP and Port of the server has to be specified in the client's settings manually. I have heard, that it is possible to automatically determine the IP of database servers via broadcast / multicast / UDP (I am not familiar with these concepts).
