• Using two versions of the same assembly (system.web.mvc) at the same time

  I'm using a content management system whose admin interface uses MVC 1.0. I would like to build the public parts of the site using MVC 2. If I just reference System.Web.Mvc version 2 in my project the admin mode doesn't work as the reference to System.Web.Mvc.ViewPage created by the views in the admin interface is ambiguous: The type 'System.Web.Mvc.ViewPage' is ambiguous: it could come from assembly 'C:\Windows\assembly\GAC_MSIL\System.Web.Mvc\2.0.0.0__31bf3856ad364e35\System.Web.Mvc.dll' or from assembly 'C:\Windows\assembly\GAC_MSIL\System.Web.Mvc\1.0.0.0__31bf3856ad364e35\System.Web.Mvc.dll'. Please specify the assembly explicitly in the type name. I could easily work around this by using binding redirects to specify that MVC 2 should always be used. Unfortunately the content management systems admin mode isn't compatible with MVC 2. I'm not exactly sure why, but I start getting a bunch of null reference exceptions in some of it's actions when I try it and the developers of the CMS have confirmed that it isn't compatible with MVC 2 (yet). The admin interface which is accessed through domain.com/admin is not physically located in webroot/admin but in the program files folder on the server and domain.com/admin is instead routed there using a virtual path provider. Therefor, putting a separate web.config file in the admin folder to specify a different version of System.Web.Mvc for that part of the site isn't an option as that won't fly when using shared hosting. Can anyone see any solution to this problem? Perhaps it's possible to specify that for some assemblies a different version of a referenced assembly should be used?

• SSRS 2008 and SSAS 2008 transport error

  I am testing an upgrade to SSAS 2008 and verifying existing reports working properly. I am able to get some SSRS reports that are using SSAS as a datasource to run without any issues. They are simple and only have a single dataset. The reports that I am unable to get to work correctly against SSAS 2008 have multiple datasets and have a fitler setup with a data range setup as a parameter. As soon as I setup that filter as a parameter and deploy them the report returns a "The connection either timed out or was lost. Unable to read data from the transport connection: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host. An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host" message. The funny thing is that the report works fine when I run it locally in BIDS and it works fine once deployed if I point it to a SSAS 2005 server. Once I point it to the SSAS 2008 server it fails. I can get other reports to work fine, but not the ones with this type of a filter setup. I can see that the start and end date parameter MDX statements get run in the trace, but that is it. After those run then we receive the transport connection message. Another funny thing is that in the production environment the reports are working fine, but that has SSRS 2005 and SSAS 2008. Does this make sense? What could be causing this? I have tried setting the single transaction level on the datasource too, but that does not seem to make a difference.

• WPF Ignoring ProgressBar Style

  Following a problem in WPF 4 where the default ProgressBar template has an off-white highlight applied causing it to dull the foreground colour, I decided to extract the template and manually edit the values to white. After doing this, I put the template as a style in App.xaml for global use and the Visual Studio designer began to use it right away. However, when I run my app, the default style is still being applied: I then tried setting the style specifically using a key, then even having it as an inline style and finally as a inline template without a wrapping style for the specific progress bar and it is still ignored. What's going wrong?   Hi, Can I store large amounts of image files in subversion. My designers usually create these designs and store them anywhere on their pc and there's no system. Can I store the files in an svn repository. That way I can also protect my data against unauthorized access and its also easier to archive.   Hi guys, I'm really new at this and I was searching the web for an answer to my question and I couldn't find it, so here I am posting my question :) I'm trying to create a new record in my table Facility. For my goreign keys I'm displaying the choices in tables instead of a dropdowns. When the user clicks on the select link which is an Ajax.ActionLink(), I wanna retrieve the right record from the DB and set the foreign key of my object Facility to the one slected and replace the Div by a new Partial View. The problem is when I try to submit the form, the Facility object doesnt seem to have the foreign key that I've just set in my ajax fuction in my controller. And if the user has enter some data in the other fields of the create form, I don't them to lose what they already entered. Here's my code.   I am running a sproc on an SQL Server 2005 server which is resulting in the following error: Msg 64, Level 20, State 0, Line 0 A transport-level error has occurred when receiving results from the server. (provider: TCP Provider, error: 0 - The specified network name is no longer available.) Once the error occurs I loose my connection to the server, but able to reconnect. There is nothing in the Event logs. The database is still functional and running its website fine. EDIT: This occurs every time I run this sproc, or it's called by an application. Any suggestions on what may be causing this error?

• .NET SerialPort DataReceived event not firing

  I have a WPF test app for evaluating event-based serial port communication (vs. polling the serial port). The problem is that the DataReceived event doesn't seem to be firing at all. I have a very basic WPF form with a TextBox for user input, a TextBlock for output, and a button to write the input to the serial port. Here's the code: public partial class Window1 : Window { SerialPort port; public Window1() { InitializeComponent(); port = new SerialPort("COM2", 9600, Parity.None, 8, StopBits.One); port.DataReceived += new SerialDataReceivedEventHandler(port_DataReceived); port.Open(); } void port_DataReceived(object sender, SerialDataReceivedEventArgs e) { Debug.Print("receiving!"); string data = port.ReadExisting(); Debug.Print(data); outputText.Text = data; } private void Button_Click(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e) { Debug.Print("sending: " + inputText.Text); port.WriteLine(inputText.Text); } } Now, here are the complicating factors: The laptop I'm working on has no serial ports, so I'm using a piece of software called Virtual Serial Port Emulator to setup a COM2. VSPE has worked admirably in the past, and it's not clear why it would only malfunction with .NET's SerialPort class, but I mention it just in case. When I hit the button on my form to send the data, my Hyperterminal window (connected on COM2) shows that the data is getting through. Yes, I disconnect Hyperterminal when I want to test my form's ability to read the port. I've tried opening the port before wiring up the event. No change. I've read through another post here where someone else is having a similar problem. None of that info has helped me in this case. EDIT #2: I realized that I had two separate apps that should both send and receive from the serial port, so I decided to try running them simultaneously... If I type into the console app, the WPF app DataReceived event fires, with the expected threading error (which I know how to deal with). If I type into the WPF app, the console app DataReceived event fires, and it echoes the data. I'm guessing the issue is somewhere in my use of the VSPE software, which is set up to treat one serial port as both input and output. And through some weirdness of the SerialPort class, one instance of a serial port can't be both the sender and receiver. Anyway, I think it's solved.

  I am trying to encrypt data with a password and store it inside a ASN.1 encoded CMS message (using C# and BouncyCastle 1.4) The code I have seems to have two problems: the data does not seem to be signed with a HMAC, so when I tamper with the encodedData (by enabling the commented out line), the decryption still succeeds. when I decrypt the data I have tampered with, I get beck corrupted plain text. However only a two blocks of plaintext data are corrupted. This seems to suggest that the encryption does not actually use CBC mode.   This is for an ASP.NET MVC application. For browser based access on my normal controllers, I'm using standard forms authentication and auth cookies. My question is how I do the same for an iPhone application. I have a set of RESTful controllers that the iPhone application uses directly, but I'm not sure how to go about authentication... I was thinking of having a special Login method that returns the auth cookie. Then I can use the standard Authentication attribute on the ASP.NET MVC side, but I'm not sure how to handle this on the iPhone side? Can I store this cookie and have it automatically sent with every request? Perhaps there's a better approach altogether?

• Can't install plugins in Eclipse 3.5 (Galileo) on Ubuntu

  Eclipse Version 3.5.2 Build id: M20100211-1343 Platform: Ubuntu 10.4 I go to install any new software Eclipse plugins (e.g., pydev, subclipse), and it gets to the 60% mark and stops. I wait for a long while and nothing happens. When I hit "cancel" a security warning comes up "Warning: You are installing software that contains unsigned content.." I click "OK" but it's too late because I've cancelled the installation already. It won't pop up until I hit "cancel". I've tried moving all the windows around, that security warning is not there. In previous incarnations of Eclipse, I've been able to click "OK" on that warning (no canceling) and all is well. I've also tried two JREs (Ubuntu's default openjdk and Sun's JDK 1.6.0_20). Is there some way to get that warning to come up, or even just have it always accept unsigned content? I've downloaded the zip of pydev and unzipped it into ~/.eclipse/org.eclipse.platform_3.5.0_155965261/ and Eclipse doesn't have Pydev when restarted, so manually installing plugins is also a pain. This is not my day. Yes, I see the other questions of this type and they don't seem to answer my problem.
