• Facebook calling Google App Engine code using GET instead of POST

  I've been developing a Facebook app using Google App Engine in Python and the pyfacebook bindings. For weeks everything worked fine but suddenly it stopped. At first I thought it was a code change so I rolled back the entire dev directory to a version I knew worked, but still it failed. It's possible a change I made to the application's settings caused the issue but, if so, I can't figure out what. I've figured out that the problem is that instead of calling the post(self) method of my Main class, Facebook is calling using a GET. Does anyone know why Facebook would use a GET method instead of a POST? It's an IFrame app. Thanks,

• Problem in JsonResult

  I am using the jsonresult for listing all the cities under a country. I retrieve the data from database and load it to a dropdown list using jquery. • Creating a MSI patch (.msp) by hand?

  Our team has recently been considering pushing out a minor registry fix to users to modify one particular problematic key. Pretty straightforward stuff, just needed to update 1 key/value inside the registry. So at the moment, we are using Wix to build .msi installers for the product. While looking into Wix's support for generating .msp patch files, it seems that the only way to create an .msp is a somewhat overcomplicated multi-step process to: Get a copy of the original MSI, and compile a new copy of the fixed MSI Write a new Wix file that points to both installers Compile the Wix file into a .wixobj with Candle to a .psp Run Torch/Pyro over before/after snapshots of the original installers and the .psp, or alternatively using MsiMsp.exe Now my question is, can't I simply describe the registry change into a Wix file and directly compile it into the .msp, without step 1 and 4 - which is a huge amount of effort for just a simple change?

• Visual studio 2008 Professional Edition acting weird

  I have a weird situation on a winform project. I have user control (with 600 lines of code around) with a datagridview. I change de ColumnHeaderStyle of the font and save it. After I save the file I close it and open again, the changes were not saved (although the asterisk is dissapeared), because the ColumnHeaderStyle is back to the former value. This is driving me crazy because I cannot change any visual thing in the Designer. Any clue? Thanks in advance.

When another feature is running I then need to change the application, to restrict functionality. Use Case Example User can normaly edit unpaid records. • WinForms app config manager is x86 and cannot reference assemblies that targets Any CPU

  Hi I'm using Win7 64x and Visual Studio 2010. I created a library/framework targeting Any CPU. Then I created a new WinForms project that uses that framework, leaving the default values of the wizard. I mean, I didn't change anything. When I reference my framework, VS cannot find the assemblies. If I go to the project properties, it is targeting Any CPU (as expected, I can change it if I want). But if I go to Configuration Manager, the only choice I have for that project is x86. And I guess that is the problem. I tried to add Any CPU as a new Target but I was unable to. Could someone help me? :) Thanks in advance!

• Stop browser from filling textboxes with details

  Hi, I've run into a really annoying problem, and I'm hoping it's just a setting I've missed. I've got an ASP.NET application which allows users to enter their username/password in various places (e.g. login, change password, change username etc..). When I logged in, the browser asked if I would like to store the user details. Usually, I click 'no', but this time I decided to click 'yes'. Now, certain textboxes in my form are prefilled with the username or password. Is it possible to remove these, as they sometimes appear in textboxes which shouldn't be prefilled. I tried setting AutoCompleteType=none and Text='' but it still gets prefilled. The textboxes don't have much in common, except the same CssClass and, for password boxes, TextMode=password. The names are different, although sometimes they include the word name (e.g. fullName, userName). Is there a way to stop the browser from filling certain textboxes? Thanks

  Hi LaTeX seems to have a preference for placing figures together on a page, and placing surrounding text on a separate page. Can I somehow change that balance a bit, as I prefer figures to break up the text to avoid too black text-heavy pages. Example: \section{Some section} [Half a page of text] \begin{figure} [...] \caption{Figure text 1} \end{figure} [Half a page of text] \begin{figure} [...] \caption{Figure text 2} \end{figure} [More text] So what LaTeX usually does is to stack the two half pages of text on a single page, and the figures on the following page. I believe this really gives a bad balance, and bores the reader. So can I change that somehow? I know about postfixing the \begin{figure} with [ht!], but often it does not really matter. I would like to configure the balancing algorithms in LaTeX to naturally prefer pages with combined figures and text.

• Android AlertDialog with dynamically changing text on every request

  I want to show an AlertDialog with one option that might change on every request. So for example at one time I want to show the option "add to contacts" while another time it should be "remove from contacts". My code does work on the first time, however Android seems to cache the AlertDialog so that onCreateDialog is not executed next time. Therefore the option doesnt change anymore.   XCode frequently seems to lose it's mind, and doesn't color code system classes or provide correct "code sense" suggestions. This is endlessly frustrating. I have copied my files (sans .svn files) to a different location - same problem. I've already completely disabled the argument "placeholders" because they screw up my documents when i type too fast... all I'm asking for is for the "esc" key to display the correct list of properties and methods.

• Windows Server 2008 R2 network adapter stops working, requires hard reboot

  TL;DR version: Turns out this was a Windows Server 2008 R2 kernel networking bug. After siccing Microsoft support on it, we (eventually) got an unpublished kernel hotfix from Microsoft to address it. If you, too, are experiencing mysterious low-level network driver failures requiring a reboot/bluescreen cycle, you might want that hotfix (or maybe Service Pack 1 whenever it is released, too.) We have been using HAProxy along with heartbeat from the Linux-HA project. We are using two linux instances to provide a failover. Each server has with their own public IP and a single IP which is shared between the two using a virtual interface (eth1:1) at IP: 69.59.196.211 The virtual interface (eth1:1) IP 69.59.196.211 is configured as the gateway for the windows servers behind them and we use ip_forwarding to route traffic. We are experiencing an occasional network outage on one of our windows servers behind our linux gateways. HAProxy will detect the server is offline which we can verify by remoting to the failed server and attempting to ping the gateway: Pinging 69.59.196.211 with 32 bytes of data: Reply from 69.59.196.220: Destination host unreachable. Swapping network cards and switches I noticed the link light on the port of the switch for the failed windows server was running at 100Mb instead of 1Gb on the failed interface. I moved the cable to several other open ports and the link indicated 100Mb for each port that I tried. I also swapped the cable with the same result. I tried changing the properties of the network card in windows and the server locked up and required a hard reset after clicking apply. This windows server has two physical network interfaces so I have swapped the cables and network settings on the two interfaces to see if the problem follows the interface. If the public interface goes down again we will know that it is not an issue with the network card. (We also tried another switch we have on hand, no change) Changing network hardware driver versions We've had the same problem with the latest Broadcom driver, as well as the built-in driver that ships in Windows Server 2008 R2. Replacing network cables As a last ditch effort we remembered another change that occurred was the replacement of all of the patch cords between our servers / switch. We had purchased two sets, one green of lengths 1ft - 3ft for the private interfaces and another set of red cables for the public interfaces. We swapped out all of the public interface patch cables with a different brand and ran our servers without issue for a full week ... aaaaaand then the problem recurred. Disable checksum offload, remove TProxy We also tried disabling TCP/IP checksum offload in the driver, no change. We're now pulling out TProxy and moving to a more traditional x-forwarded-for network arrangement without any fancy IP address rewriting. We'll see if that helps. Switch Virtualization providers On the off chance this was related to Hyper-V in some way (we do host Linux VMs on it), we switched to VMWare Server. No change. Switch host model We've reached the end of our troubleshooting rope and are now formally involving Microsoft support. • IDs necessary in update script not being stored (or even seen!?) (PHP MySQL)

  Hi guys, I really need help with this one...have spent 3 hours trying to figure it out... Basically, I have 3 tables necessary for this function to work (the query and PHP)... Authors, Books and Users. An author can have many books, and a user can have many books - that's it. When the admin user selects to update a book, they are presented with a form, displaying the current data within the fields, very straight forward... However there is one tricky part, the admin user can change the author for a book (incase they make a mistake) and also change the user for which the book is associated with. When I select to update the single book information I am not getting any values what so ever for author_id or user_id. Meaning that when the user updates the book info, the associations with the user and author is being scrapped altogether (when before there was an association)... I cannot see why this is happening because I can clearly see the IDs for the users and authors for my option values (this is because they are in select dropdowns). Here is what my sql to retrieve the user ID is: SELECT user_id, name FROM users and then i have my select options which brings up all the users in the system: <label>This book belongs to:</label> <select name="name" id="name"> <option value="<?php echo $row['user_id']?>" SELECTED><?php echo $row['name']?> - Current</option> <?php while($row = mysql_fetch_array($result)) { ?> <option value="<?php echo $row['user_id']; if (isset($_POST['user_id']));?>"><?php echo $row['name']?></option> <?php } ?> In the presented HTML form, I can select the users (by name) and within the source code I can see the IDs (for the value) matching against the names of the users. Finally, in my script that performs the update, I have this: $book_id = $_POST['book_id']; $bookname = $_POST['bookname']; $booklevel = $_POST['booklevel']; $author_id = $_POST['author_id']; $user_id = $_POST['user_id']; $sql = "UPDATE books SET bookname= '".$bookname."', booklevel= '".$booklevel."', author_id='".$author_id."', user_id= '".$user_id."' WHERE book_id = ".$book_id; The result of this query returns no value for either author_id or user_id... Obviously in this question I have given the information for the user stuff (with the HTML being displayed) but im guessing that I have the same problem with authors aswell... How can I get these ID's passed to the script so that the change can be acknowledge!! :(

• Best way to handle SQL Server fulltext index updates

  Hi all, I have a fulltext index which doesn't need to be immediately up-to-date, I'd like to spare myself the I/O (when I do bulk updates, I see a ton of I/O related to the index) and do the index updates during low usage times (nightly, perhaps even weekly). It seems there are two ways to go about this: Turn off change tracking (SET CHANGE_TRACKING OFF) and add a timestamp field to the indexed table, so that you can run alter fulltext index on <table> start INCREMENTAL population, or Enable change tracking, but set it to MANUAL, so that you can run alter fulltext index on <table> start UPDATE population when you need it updated. Is there a preferred method? I couldn't tell from this overview if there was a performance benefit one way or the other. Tom

  My website has premium videos, for which users have to pay to watch it. I am sending a random user name and password to the user's email id when the payment is completed. Then I want to assure no more than one user use that login credentials simultaneously. For that I use a login_status column in database table with login credentials and change it to 1 when one user login and change to 0 when user log out. But the problem is, if the user close browser or network connection loss may happened will not update database. Then login_will be 1 undefinitely and no one can use that login credentials again. Is there any idea to accomplish my task?

• Using a "local" S3 emulation layer as a replacement for HDFS?

  I have been testing out the most recent Cloudera CDH4 hadoop-conf-pseudo (i.e. MRv2 or YARN) on a notebook, which has 4 cores, 8GB RAM, an Intel X25MG2 SSD, and runs a S3 emulation layer my colleagues and I wrote in C++. The OS is Ubuntu 12.04LTS 64bit. So far so good. Looking at Setting up hadoop to use S3 as a replacement for HDFS, I would like to do it on my notebook. Nevertheless, I can't find where I can change the jets3t.properties for setting the end point to localhost. I downloaded the hadoop-2.0.1-alpha.tar.gz and searched the source without finding out a clue. There is a similar Q on SO Using s3 as fs.default.name or HDFS?, but I want to use our own lightweight and fast S3 emulation layer, instead of AWS S3, for our experiments. I would appreciate a hint as to how I can change the end point to a different hostname. Regards, --Zack

• Can CultureInfo.CurrentCulture differ per application pool?

  I'm having trouble with CultureInfo in our ASP.NET web application. Our web application returns a different culture, depending on which application pool it is in. In application pool A, it is en-US, but in application pool B, it's nl-BE. I'd like it to be nl-BE, but can't find where to change this (IIS6 by the way). I'm not even sure if this can be changed on an app-pool level. I'm checking with CultureInfo.CurrentCulture.Name. Is it possible to change this for an application pool? Or what else could influence this? In the regional settings of the server, we have selected 'Dutch (Belgium)', which translates to nl-BE, I believe. So where could this application pool be getting the en-US?
