    I'm getting some trouble binding a date from QueryString : I have the following model public class QueryParms { public DateTime Date { get; set; } } And the following controller action : public ActionResult Search( QueryParms query ); I have a form, with a field where I can type my date. If the form is FormMethod.Post, everything is fine, my date is correctly bound to my model. If the form is FormMethod.Get, it is not working anymore. The date is left to the default value (01/01/0001) I think it is a culture issue : When i look into the value provider, the FormValueProvider has a culture property set for my date : {fr-FR}. The QueryStringValueProvider doesn't have the culture property set. Is there a way to set this property ?

    Hey all, I'm pretty new to Javascript, so forgive me if this is a simple question. I'm trying to access the length of a set of checkboxes in a form using Javascript. However, I need to be able to change the "name" field of the checkboxes to check several different sets of them. Right now, my sample code looks like: var set = "set" + x; totalLength = optionBoxes.set.length; The variable x is being incremented by a for loop that wraps the whole thing and the name of the checkbox sets that I'm trying to access are set0, set1, set2, etc. Thanks.     I've got the two following entities ... class Citation { public int CitationId { get; set; } public string Identifier { get; set; } } class CitationIdentifier { public int CitationIdentifierId { get; set; } public string Identifier { get; set; } } I'm trying to query for all Citation records where the Identifier property does not match any of the CitationIdentifiers record Identifier property. So, if I have a Citation with an Identifier property containing "foo", but there are no CitationIdentifier records with an Identifier property containing "foo", then I'd like to retrieve that Citation. I'm working with an IDbSet<Citation>. Any ideas? Thanks.

    Recently I have worked with Core Data. When I want to set a default value for some fields, I came up with this problem: So I made a simple represent: We have 2 class Parent and Child, in which Child inherit from Parent. // Parent.h @interface Parent : NSObject @property (strong, nonatomic) NSString *lastName; // Child.h @interface Child : Parent In Parent class, I made a custom getter to set a default value when nothing is set: // Parent.h - (NSString *)lastName { if (_lastName) { return _lastName; } else { return @"Parent Default Name"; } } But I cannot make a custom default value for the field "name" which Child inherits from its Parent. // Child.h @implementation Child - (NSString *)lastname { if (super.lastName) { return super.lastName; } else { return @"Child Default Name"; } } Apparently, this method is never called. So my question here is: How can I set a custom getter for the field the Child class inherits from Parent without define an overriding property?

    I read something ages ago I think by Jon Skeet (which I can't find now) saying that in IL, all events get converted to methods... it was before I understood C# and did not understand it all, but if that is (or even if it isn't) the gist of it.... In a purely hypothetical situation, I was wondering if someone could explain or point me to a resource that says when to use an event over a method? Basically, If I want to have a big red/green status picture which is linked to a Bool field, and I wanted to change it based on the value of the bool, should I: a) Have a method called Changepicture which is linked to the field and changes the state of the bool and the picture. b) Have a get/set part to the field and stick an event in the set part. c) Have a get/set part to the field and stick a method in the set part. d) Other?

    I have a list of hashes, as such: incoming_links = [ {:title => 'blah1', :url => "http://blah.com/post/1"}, {:title => 'blah2', :url => "http://blah.com/post/2"}, {:title => 'blah3', :url => "http://blah.com/post/3"}] And an ActiveRecord model which has fields in the database with some matching rows, say: Link.all => [<Link#2 @title='blah2' @url='...post/2'>, <Link#3 @title='blah3' @url='...post/3'>, <Link#4 @title='blah4' @url='...post/4'>] I'd like to do set operations on Link.all with incoming_links so that I can figure out that <Link#4 ...> is not in the set of incoming_links, and {:title => 'blah1', :url =>'http://blah.com/post/1'} is not in the Link.all set, like so: #pseudocode #incoming_links = as above links = Link.all expired_links = links - incoming_links missing_links = incoming_links - links expired_links.destroy missing_links.each{|link| Link.create(link)} One route I've tried: I'd rather not rewrite Array#- and such, and I'm okay with converting incoming_links to a set of unsaved Link objects; so I've tried overwriting hash eql? and so on in Link so that it ignored the id equality that AR::Base provides by default. But this is the only place this sort of equality should be considered in the application - in other places the Link#id default identity is required. Is there some way I could subclass Link and apply the hash, eql?, etc overwriting there? The other route I've tried is to pull out the attributes hash for each Link and doing a .slice('id',...etc) to prune the hashes down. But this requires writing seperate methods for keeping track of the Link objects while doing set operations on the hashes, or writing seperate Collection classes to wrap the incoming_links hash-list and Link-list which seems a bit overkill. What is the best way to design this interaction? Extra credit for cleanliness.

    This seems like it should be very easy...anyway, it is in MS SQL Server In a DB2 stored procedure, how can I just get the value of a variable? Say I have the following stored procedure: CREATE PROCEDURE etl.TestABC( ) LANGUAGE SQL BEGIN declare Stmt varchar(2048); set Stmt = 'this is a test'; -- print Stmt; -- select Stmt; return 0; END @ I'd like to print out the value of Stmt after I set it. Print doesn't work, select doesn't work. Somebody said I have to insert it to a table first, and then get it after I run the stored procedure. Is this really necessary? Thanks, Sylvia EDIT: I should have made clearer that I want to see the value of Stmt each time after I set it, and I may need to set it multiple times within the same stored procedure.

    I created a silverlight 3 application with a navigation frame and 3 views: search, add and edit. I used the app file to pass parameters among the 3 pages, eg: ((App)Application.Current).SNIPSELECTED = currentSnip; Then in the receiving page: currentSnip = ((App)Application.Current).SNIPSELECTED; currentSnip is a SnipItem object: public class SnipItem { public string itemID {get;set;} public string category {get;set;} public string itemDescription {get;set;} public string codeSnip {get;set;} } This worked fine until I decided to make this entire application into a user control and put that inside a second silverlight application with its own navigation frame and app file. The app files are getting confused. The first app file with all my parameter passing is not being read. I know how to pass a simple parameter between views in the first application without the app file (in a query string), but how about these custom types like my currentSnip above?

  • How do browser cookie domains work?

    Due to weird domain/subdomain cookie issues that I'm getting, I'd like to know how browsers handle cookies. If they do it in different ways, it would also be nice to know the differences. In other words - when a browser receives a cookie, that cookie MAY have a domain and a path attached to it. Or not, in which case the browser probably substitutes some defaults for them. Question 1: what are they? Later, when the browser is about to make a request, it checks its cookies and filters out the ones it should send for that request. It does so by matching them against the requests path and domain. Question 2: what are the matching rules? Added: The reason I'm asking this is because I'm interested in some edge cases. Like: Will a cookie for .example.com be available for www.example.com? Will a cookie for .example.com be available for example.com? Will a cookie for example.com be available for www.example.com? Will a cookie for example.com be available for anotherexample.com? Will www.example.com be able to set cookie for example.com? Will www.example.com be able to set cookie for www2.example.com? Will www.example.com be able to set cookie for .com? Etc. Added 2: Also, could someone suggest how I should set a cookie so that: It can be set by either www.example.com or example.com; It is accessible by both www.example.com and example.com.

  • SSIS - user variable used in derived column transform is not available - in some cases

    Unfortunately I don't have a repro for my issue, but I thought I would try to describe it in case it sounds familiar to someone... I am using SSIS 2005, SP2. My package has a package-scope user variable - let's call it user_var first step in the control flow is an Execute SQL task which runs a stored procedure. All that SP does is insert a record in a SQL table (with an identity column) and then go back and get the max ID value. The Execute SQL task saves this output into user_var the control flow then has a Data Flow Task - it goes and gets some source data, has a derived column which sets a column called run_id to user_var - and saves the data to a SQL destination In most cases (this template is used for many packages, running every day) this all works great. All of the destination records created get set with a correct run_id. However, in some cases, there is a set of the destination data that does not get run_id equal to user_var, but instead gets a value of 0 (0 is the default value for user_var). I have 2 instances where this has happened, but I can't make it happen. In both cases, it was just less that 10,000 records that have run_id = 0. Since SSIS writes data out in 10,000 record blocks, this really makes me think that, for the first set of data written out, user_var was not yet set. Then, after that first block, for the rest of the data, run_id is set to a correct value. But control passed on to my data flow from the Execute SQL task - it would have seemed reasonable to me that it wouldn't go on until the SP has completed and user_var is set. Maybe it just runs the SP, but doesn't wait for it to complete? In both cases where this has happened there seemed to be a few packages hitting the table to get a new user_var at about the same time. And in both cases lots of data was written (40 million rows, 60 million rows) - my thinking is that that means the writes were happening for a while. Sorry to be both long-winded AND vague. A winning combination! Does this sound familiar to anyone? Thanks.

    I have an interface IFoo: public interface IFoo { int Id { get; set; } } And then a concrete implementation: public class Bar : IFoo { public int Id { get; set; } public string A { get; set; } } public class Baz : IFoo { public int Id { get; set; } public string B { get; set; } } I'd like to be able to map all IFoo but specifying their derived type instead: Mapper.CreateMap<int, IFoo>().AfterMap((id, foo) => foo.Id = id); And then map (without explicitly creating maps for Bar and Baz): var bar = Mapper.Map<int, Bar>(123); // bar.Id == 123 var baz = Mapper.Map<int, Baz>(456); // baz.Id == 456 But this doesn't work in 1.1. I know I could specify all Bar and Baz but if there are 20 of these, I'd like to not have to manage them and rather just have what I did above for creating the map. Is this possible?

At the moment the following code produces the error "error: wrong number of arguments (0 for 1). Use --trace to view backtrace" How do I get the variable out of choice? At the moment I have the 'do' setup, but I have no idea about how to get the variable the user has chosen out and into a variable for use elsewhere.     I am attempting to narrow results of an existing complex query based on conditional matches on multiple columns within the returned data set. I'll attempt to simplify the data as much as possible here. Assume that the following table structure represents the data that my existing complex query has already selected (here ordered by date): +----+-----------+------+------------+ | id | remote_id | type | date | +----+-----------+------+------------+ | 1 | 1 | A | 2011-01-01 | | 3 | 1 | A | 2011-01-07 | | 5 | 1 | B | 2011-01-07 | | 4 | 1 | A | 2011-05-01 | +----+-----------+------+------------+ I need to select from that data set based on the following criteria: If the pairing of remote_id and type is unique to the set, return the row always If the pairing of remote_id and type is not unique to the set, take the following action: Of the sets of rows for which the pairing of remote_id and type are not unique, return only the single row for which date is greatest and still less than or equal to now.     I'm dealing with java projects which often result in deeply nested folders (/path/to/project/com/java/lang/whatever, etc) and sometimes want to be able to jump, say, 4 directory levels upwards. Typing cd ../../../.. is a pain, and I don't want to symlink. Is there some flag to cd that lets you go up multiple directory levels (in my head, it would be something like cd -u 4)? Unfortunately I can't find any man page for cd specifically, instead just getting the useless "builtins" page.
