  • Where should I start and how to progress when learning Java EE

    I know basic stuff like, what are beans, jsp, servlet, jsf and how this stuff should work together. I know how to make basic jsp page with database query for example. Now I need to know what is the best path to learn all this stuff. My plan is to learn in this order: jsp (including persistance and JSTL) servlets + beans jsf The jump to frameworks (hibernate, struts, spring, etc) Also I'm not exactly sure about JSF, is it a must to make great pages or is it just a convenience to know?

  • Domain mapping issues

    I have two domain names - .com & .co.uk bought with 123-reg and just one student Windows hosting pack associated with the .co.uk domain. The .com domain is the main one which people would be trying to access, so I just mapped the domain to the hosting this morning. The problem is that I would really like it to be functional by tomorrow morning and the usual waiting time is 24-48 hours. Is there point in stopping the process and trying with forward it with CNAME record instead, does it take less time? (I can just go back and do proper domain mapping during the weekend) Also, is there a possible way to check whether the domain mapping has been done correctly before these 24-48 hours? From some computers I get 404 Error on homepage.

    I'm new to PHP in a professional context. I want a few macro thumb rules to keep me on the enlightened path. Here are a few I'm proposing to myself: no absolute paths in include|require(_once)? statements no .. dirname(foo), or other means of walking up in include|require(_once)? statements put libs on the include path, not in subdirectories You can see that all of this is focusing on managing dependencies, because that is the problem I've encountered thus far. What other thumb-rule solutions to macro level problems do you have?

    I'm developing a website and it's closing onto a private alpha/beta phase. It will be exposed to a small selected group of individuals who will provide a fair amount of feedback. What options do I have for this feedback system? I would certainly like to make it collaborative (excluding email). I could mock up a really simple message board, but would rather use my time elsewhere. The feedback will mainly consist of feature suggestions and bug reports.   • Subdomain Is Redirected and Causing an Error Because www. is Added

    On my site, say example.com, if I try to access test.example.com, Firefox automatically adds www. to test.example.com, making it www.test.example.com, which causes an error. However, if I visit a site like my.ebay.com, no www. is added so no error occurs. What's going on? Just in case, my .htaccess file is as follows: Options -Multiviews RewriteEngine On RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^example.com RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.example.com/$1 [R=301,L] RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteRule ^(.*)$ $1.php I looked through Firebug and it seems like Firefox doesn't even make an attempt to reach test.example.com before reverting to www.test.example.com. One nuance I didn't realize until now. If I try to access the site using test.example.com/, the www. is added. If however that trailing slash is not there, then I am sent to the subdomain properly.

    I'm thinking ASP.NET, but I don't really know. Can someone tell me what a good server-side language for the "Zuckerberg-dorm-room-starting-up-a-huge-website" deal? I know the latter used PHP, but as I've understood it that's kind of outdated and C#/ASP.NET is a better way to go about it. Is HTML + CSS + JavaScript + C#/ASP.NET MVC + MySQL a good combination for it? Is MySQL combined in ASP.NET MVC? Also, where's a good tutorial for the server-side language you suggest? As mentioned previously it has to be able to handle massive user-input without much fuss.

    I need to redirect CakePHP installation host to my domain. Location of my Cakephp installation: myhosting.com/newsite/ Domain: www.mydomain.com I'm currently using URL Frame to direct www.mydomain.com to myhosting.com/newsite/. Problem When I load www.mydomain.com, I see all links in the site is pointing to the hosting location - example - myhosting.com/newsite/product/1 It should be pointing to www.mydomain.com/product/1 Any simple way to fix this? Probably very simple to solve it, but I can't bend it. Help much appreciated.

    I started coding almost a year ago. By "coding" I mean HTML(5), CSS(3), and only few times I implemented some AJAX and JavaScript. I am interviewing for a position that expects me to know HTML, CSS, JS, JQuery, and AJAX. I feel confident in HTML5/CSS3 subject area and somewhat ok with javascript. Will agency expect from me to write some code during the interview? I do have a live website as an example which contains snapshots of past projects which were sent to them.     I am currently working on developing a personal website. It's not my first time doing this, but this is my first major foray into implementing SSI. I've run myself into a wall, however, with an if-else directive that uses one of the CGI environment variables as part of its comparison. Even after some limited attempts at debugging, all of the output and documentation that I have means that the comparisons being made should fail outright. This is not the case, and the wrong evaluation is being made by the if-else directive.     I've developed a site that serves pure HTML Weather widgets (and they are great looking too). Just after two months I am generating 1.25K hits monthly (Google Analytics). Now I want to generate some money out of it. You can check my service out on Here . I am looking for affiliate or an Ads service that can I can hookup within but there is a twist in story. I want single liner text Ad in a particular location otherwise widgets will look rubbish, see this snapshot: Plus I have some unique places in my site to place some banner ads as well, Here are existing set of services that I've already tried: Ad Sense, doesn't allow or have such formats of methods. Peefly provides you with straight links works best but I recorded some clicks (Through Google Events) and they didn't show me any, plus it introduces overhead of manually going and choosing your links. BidVertise totally rubbish opens popups and what not, makes site look like spam I am new to this ad stuff so have a limited knowledge. Suggestions please? I have one more place in Forecast but I want to start simple. P.S. I also have a MetroUI like widget coming in the pipeline but its not ready yet.

I just bought this domain at GoDaddy (48 hours ago): http://formatron.net/ My hosting provider is Webhostingpad.com. I Added their name servers to GoDaddy 48 hours ago. More information in this previous question. It is working in my computer but some people just see a "cannot found error." What could be the reason? EDIT: I checked on my mobile phone and it works.

  • How to redirect visitors to the server that is closest to them and where to place the servers?

    I am focusing on providing fast page refreshes for my visitors and I wonder where is the smartest spot to place my servers on? I understand that the best would be to place a server in every country or even city, but that is of course not doable with my economy. I am thinking of maybe setting up three servers, one in the middle of USA (Kansas?), one in Italy and one in Sweden. What do you think about that? I don't care about Africa since they haven't even got computers so I won't get traffic from there anyway. China, North Korea etc are probably just visiting chinese websites, they barely know english anway... The next problem is how do I redirect a visitor from Finland to the Swedish server? I don't want the visitor from Finland to be using the USA server or vice versa.

  • Javascript Event in Innerhtml Resulting from PHP Server Script

    I'm (very slowly) making a website, and I'm creating a search engine for the database, which is essential to organize the dependencies during data entry. Anyway, what I would like is to type a few keywords into a box, have a menu pop up with various search results, and have the box fill with the ID number of the selected entry when it's clicked. Currently, I have a document called search.php which fills a div called search-output using xmlhttp.open() and the innerhtml property. Everything is working perfectly except for filling the original search box with the ID number when clicking. My first attempt was to add an onclick event to each entry in the output from search.php. Unfortunately, I found that javascript inserted into innerhtml is not run for security reasons. I've been Googling for hours but haven't been able to find a solution. How can I get the original search text box to fill with the correct ID when I click it? Is what I'm doing a good setup for the results I desire, or is there a better way to integrate search features into data entry?

The new site have to follow the structure of the old site that requires the presence of a vertical main menu in the left column that contains the link to all the statics pages in the site. Do you have some additional ideas about the CSS style of this vertical menu? 2) What could I do to give a more professional look to this site?   • How to Stop Browser from rejecting my downloads

    I have a portfolio site where I am trying to host some of my work, so people can download my work. Some of these files include exe executables, and some are jar executables, which are run through batch. When a user tries to download my apps, it says that the file is not commonly downloaded and may be harmful, and therefore blocks the download. If I zip the folders, it still does the same thing. Any format i choose, still blocks the downloads. How can I stop chrome from doing this. Is there a way I can verify my files so they will be considered as trusted? Thanks in advance!
