    Hey Guys, This seems like a basic problem with an easy answer but I simply cannot figure it out no matter how much I try. I am trying to create a line graph based on two lists. For my x-axis, I want my list to be a set of strings. x_axis_list = ["Jan-06","Jul-06","Jan-07","Jul-07","Jan-08"] y_axis_list = [5,7,6,8,9] Any suggestions on how to best graph these items?

    I have some strings which contain the words LIMIT 3, 199 or LIMIT 0, 100. Basically I want to replace the word LIMIT and everything after it in my string. How do I do this in PHP? str_replace only replaces an item and the LIMIT text after is dynamic/ So it could be WHEN JOHN WAS TRYING HIS SQL QUERY, HE FOUND THAT LIMIT, 121 // RETURN WOULD BE WHEN JOHN WAS TRYING HIS SQL QUERY, HE FOUND THAT WHEN JOHN TRIED LIMIT 343, 333 HE FOUND // RETURN WOULD BE WHEN JOHN TRIED

    Hi, I have to manage XML documents and Strings in my app. In terms of efficiency and memory usage, will a collection like ArrayList be much more expensive than String[]? Also, I could store the content as a regular String or XML. Is working with XML also more expensive? (When I say expensive, I am referring to the use of system resources.)     As we can execute such executables in two ways, such as "sudo mono test.exe", and "mono test.exe". Now I want to know how to detect whether this application is running as root inside the application itself. I tried to check user name like below and see whether they equal to "root", Thread.CurrentPrincipal.Identity.Name Process.GetCurrentProcess().StartInfo.UserName AppDomain.CurrentDomain.ApplicationIdentity.FullName The first two are empty strings always, while the third throws NullReferenceException. Please advise if this is doable on Mono 2.6.

    Hi there! Does anyone know a 100% clone of the C/C++ printf for Delphi? Yes, I know the System.Format function, but it handles things a little different. For example if you want to format 3.14 to "003" you need "%03d" in C, but "%.3d" in Delphi. I have an application written in Delphi which has to be able to format numbers using C format strings, so do you know a snippet/library for that? Thanks in advance!

Is there an equivalent of @ as applied to strings in Java: For example I can do @"c:\afolder\afile" in C# and have it ignore the escape characters when processing instead of having to do "c:\afolder\aFile".   • Invalid character in a Base-64 string when Concatenating and Url encoding a string

    I’m trying to write some encryption code that is passed through a Url. For the sake of the issue I’ve excluded the actual encryption of the data and just shown the code causing the problem. I take a salt value, convert it to a byte array and then convert that to a base64 string. This string I concatenate to another base64 string (which was previously a byte array). These two base64 strings are then Url encoded.     Is there a way to get all possible values from a MySQL enum column? The MySQL documentation says the MySQL enum type is returned as a Java String, so I basically would like a way to get all possible strings I can pass when querying a table with such an enum. I couldn't immediately find anything when I was looking through the metadata returned for such a column, but since enum isn't standard SQL, I'm not sure it's even possible... any suggestions?

    I was wondering if there is a recommended 'cross' Windows and Linux method for the purpose of converting strings from UTF-16LE to UTF-8? or one should use different methods for each environment? I've managed to google few references to 'iconv' , but for somreason I can't find samples of basic conversions, such as - converting a wchar_t UTF-16 to UTF-8. Anybody can recommend a method that would be 'cross', and if you know of references or a guide with samples, would very appreciate it. Thanks, Doori Bar

    I'm working with a database that has a bunch of serial numbers that are prefixed with leading 0's. So a serial number can look like 00032432 or 56332432. Problem is with PHP I don't understand how the conversion system with octals works. A specific example is that I'm trying to convert and compare all of these integer based numbers with strings. Is it possible to convert an octal, such as 00234 to a string like "00234" so that I can compare it?

    I've got a mysql dataset that contains 86 million rows. I need to have a relatively fast search through this data. The data I'll be searching through is all strings. I also need to do partial matches. Now, if I have 'foobar' and search for '%oob%' I know it'll be really slow - it has to look at every row to see if there is a match. What methods can be used to speed queries like this up? G-Man

  • Identifying and removing null characters in UNIX

    I have a text file containing unwanted null characters. When I try to view it in I see ^@ symbols, interleaved in normal text. How can I: a) Identify which lines in the file contains null characters? I have tried grepping for \0 and \x0, but this did not work. b) Remove the null characters? Running strings on the file cleaned it up, but I'm just wondering if this is the best way? Thanks
